<p>“So far, Rs 40 crore has been counted, of which there is no accounting. The remaining amount is being counted,”&nbsp;one official source&nbsp;was quoted as saying.</p>

<p>The IT department took action in Agra based on suspicion of suspected tax evasion and accumulation of disproportionate assets. The cash was found stashed in shoe boxes, mattresses and walls, said reports.</p>

<p>All three companies and their owners were not paying taxes duly, which seemingly triggered the raids by the IT department.</p>

<h2><strong>IT&nbsp;dept's&nbsp;raids in Kanpur</strong></h2>

<p>Earlier in&nbsp;February, the IT department raided Bansidhar Tobacco Company in Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh state.</p>

<p>The company is also operational in states like Delhi and Gujarat, as well as Mumbai city.</p>

<p>The department raided 20 places simultaneously belonging to the company and found massive discrepancies in the&nbsp;company's&nbsp;accounts.</p>

<p>Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hit out at his Delhi counterpart, Arvind Kejriwal over his "retirement at 75 years of age" remark referring to Prime Minister Modi stating that the opposition was making all sorts of futile attempts out of desperation to win the general elections.</p>

<p>CM Yogi took to his social media account X and wrote, "The entire propaganda of the opposition has failed in the face of the immense public support that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi ji is receiving from East to West and North to South. Knowing that its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections is certain, the desperate opposition is making futile attempts to launch attack by using the excuse of Modi ji's age."</p>

<p>Rebuffing Kejriwal's claims that PM Modi was making way for Amit Shah to take over the leadership of the country after he retires, the Union Home Minister stated that there were no such provisions mentioned in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP's) constitution.</p>

<p>He further exuded confidence asserting that Modi will become the Prime Minister of the country for the third time.</p>

<p>"The people of this country, be it from the East, West, North, South or Northeast, are standing with Modi. All the leaders of the INDI alliance know that we are going to cross 400 seats and Modi ji will become the PM of this country for the third time. That is why they are spreading this type of misconception," Shah said.</p>

<h2><strong>Akhilesh Yadav's homecoming</strong>&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Yadav's return to Kannauj means that SP leader Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, who&nbsp;was nominated&nbsp;as the candidate earlier this week, will not run for this seat. Tej Pratap Yadav is Akhilesh Yadav's nephew and the grandson of Mulayam Yadav's brother Ranveer. He won the Mainpuri seat in the 2014 election.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, the change was due to tension among SP workers on the ground, who wanted the party head to run for the family seat. Yadav had previously decided against running in this election because he needed time to develop his overall strategy.</p>

<p>Kannauj was a bastion of the Samajwadi Party till the BJP's Subrat Pathak won in 2019.&nbsp;The seat was won by Akhilesh Yadav in the 2000 by-election, and he held it in the general elections of 2004 and 2009.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dimple Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav's wife, won the seat in 2012 by-polls. She retained it in the 2014 election but lost to BJP's Subrat Pathak in 2019. She was later fielded from Mainpuri in the 2022 by-poll following the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav. She is again contesting from the Mainpuri seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In this election, the SP has allied with the Congress-led INDIA Bloc. It is contesting 63 of Uttar Pradesh's 80 Lok Sabha seats. The remaining 17 have&nbsp;been given&nbsp;to Congress. Kannauj will vote in the fourth phase of the 2024&nbsp;elections,&nbsp;on May 13.</p>

<p>The Samajwadi Party won the Moradabad and Rampur seats, and the Bahujan Samaj Party won the Saharanpur, Nijnor and Nagina seats. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party defeated the Samajwadi Party during the 2022 by-polls in Rampur.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Key Candidates And Constituencies</strong></h2>

<p><strong>Pilibhit</strong>: The election contest in Pilibhit will be interesting as the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Jitin Prasada, who was once a close aide of Rahul Gandhi. BJP's decision to field Prasada has caused a fair amount of buzz as the constituency was represented by Varun Gandhi, who has been sidelined in the upcoming elections. Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath campaigned aggressively for Prasada, whose main competitors will be Bhagwat Saran Gangwar of SP and Anis Ahmed Khan of BSP.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Rampur</strong>: Jailed SP leader, Azam Khan, once had a stronghold over Rampur. This time, his close aide, Mohibullah Nadvi, a cleric of a mosque located on Delhi's Parliament Street, is contesting the elections from the Samajwadi Party. Ghanshyam Lodhi will be contesting from BJP and Zeeshan Khan from BSP.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Muzaffarnagar</strong>: This constituency will witness a three-cornered electoral battle with Union Minister Sanjeev Baliyan squaring off against SP's Harindra Malik and BSP's Dara Singh Prajapati.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Saharanpur</strong>: Known as the "serial number one seat" in Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur is a key battleground constituency. In the past decades, the seat has oscillated between SP, BJP and BSP. In 2014, BJP's Lakhanpal won the seat, but BSP's candidate, Haji Fazlur Rehman, won the seat in 2019.</p>

<p>In a shocking turn of events, a 16-year-old boy from India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state reportedly hired three shooters to get his father killed, police officers revealed Saturday (Mar 23).</p>

<p>Father of the boy was shot dead on Thursday in the Patti area of Pratapgarh.</p>

<p>The boy was detained while the three shooters hired by him, namely Piyush Pal, Shubham Soni and Priyanshu, were arrested, said Additional Superintendent of Police Durgesh Kumar Singh.</p>

<p>The boy was reportedly angry with his father, 50-year-old Mohammed Naeem, as he 'didn’t give him enough money'.</p>

<p>The three shooters said the teen promised to pay them INR 600,000 ($7,000) in total, out of which INR 150,000 ($1,800) were paid in advance.</p>

<p>Speaking about the incident, ASP Durgesh Kumar Singh said, "The minor told us that he hired the shooters to murder his father and promised to pay them ₹6 lakh. He paid ₹1.5 lakh in advance with an assurance that he will pay the remaining amount once they kill his father."</p>

<p>"The minor said that he often used to steal money from the shop or jewellery from the house to fulfil his wishes. He had planned to get his father killed earlier also but had failed," the officer added.</p>

<h2><strong>Unrelated incident from Rajasthan</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a man from Rajasthan state killed his 60-year-old father and buried his body in the courtyard of his house.</p>

<h2><strong>Elaborate arrangements made for Lathmar Holi</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, the officials on Sunday said that elaborate arrangements were made for Lathmar Holi of Barsana slated for Monday (March 18).</p>

<p>“Without compromising security, every effort will be made to ensure inconvenience-free watching of Lathmar Holi and Rangotsava in Barsana. The festival gives a glimpse of fair in Barsana as several lakh Holi lovers, including international tourists, watch this rare festival,” District Magistrate Shailendra Singh said.</p>

<p>The entire area set for the festive celebrations, as per the officials, was divided into five zones and 12 sectors.</p>

<p>In order to avoid traffic congestion during the Holi celebrations, the authorities had put in place 78 barriers and 45 parking slots in Barsana.</p>

<p>Whereas, 29 barriers and 12 parkings were set up in Nandgaon.</p>

<p>Lathmar Holi in Barsana and Nandgaon would be played on March 18 and March 19 respectively, said the officials.</p>

<p>In Barsana, 45 parking spaces and 78 barriers have been built to prevent traffic jams. In Nandgaon, a total of 12 parking spaces and 29 obstacles have been constructed.</p>

<p>To ensure swift movement of traffic, four watch towers in Barsana and two in Nandgaon have been built. In addition, 150 extra buses will travel various routes to Barsana and Nandgaon in preparation for the Lathmar Holi celebration.</p>

<p>Four ponds in Barsana and one in Nandgaon have been barricaded in order to prevent incidents of drowning.</p>

<h2><strong>What did the probe find?</strong></h2>

<p>Around 13,000 unauthorised madrasas have been found across the Indian state, according to the comprehensive submitted to the state government. This comes months after the UP government set up the team to probe foreign funding to hundreds of madrasas.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A majority of these madrasas were located in seven districts of UP that border Nepal, including Maharajganj, Shravasti, and Bahraich, according to the report by SIT. The investigation also found each border district is home to more than 500 such madrasas.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the media report, most of these madrasas had failed to provide financial records sought by the SIT team, and have no clear accounts of their income and expenditure. Many of these madrasas claim to have been built with donations but reportedly were unable to disclose the names of contributors.</p>

<p>The SIT team investigated a total of 23,000 madrasas out of which 5,000 had provisional recognition, while others have fallen short of meeting accreditation standards over the past 25 years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Madrasas in UP have been under scrutiny since 2022 when the government first ordered a survey of all such institutes in the state.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A report submitted to the government in this regard, on November 15, 2023, showed 8,596 of around 25,000 madrasas were running without recognition in the state.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The investigation also found that around 665,000 students were enrolled in these unrecognised institutions.</p>

<h2><strong>‘Stringent action’</strong></h2>

<p>Speaking about the findings of the recent SIT probe, Deputy CM Pathak said, “Our government will further strengthen law and order in the state. Under no circumstances, will we allow illegal activities in the state.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, “Stringent action will be taken against the guilty. After the report comes, strict action will be taken as per the law.”</p>

<p>Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi blasted the opposition Monday (Feb 19) while speaking at the fourth groundbreaking ceremony of UP Global Investors Summit (UPGIS)&nbsp;in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state governed by his Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).</p>

<p>Modi said the state had moved on from the culture of red tape to laying the red carpet in the seven years of the ‘double-engine’ government.&nbsp;Speaking at the UP Global Investors Summit in Lucknow, the PM said the state used to witness riots and violence everywhere but now it was on the path of development.</p>

<p>"It has been 7 years since a double-engine government was formed in UP. In the last 7 years, the 'red tape culture' in the state has been ended and a 'red carpet culture' has been brought here. In the last 7 years, crime has reduced in UP and business culture has expanded," Modi said.</p>

<p>“In the last 7 years, an environment of business, development and trust has been formed in UP. The double-engine government has shown that if there is a true intention for change, nobody can stop it,” he added.</p>

<h2><strong>14,000 projects launched</strong></h2>

<p>Earlier in the day, PM Modi launched over 14,000 projects worth INR 10 trillion at the summit. The raft of projects comes&nbsp;ahead of India’s general elections in which the BJP has set the ambitious target of winning at least 370 seats.</p>
