Concern grew about a crackdown overnight on students at Tehran's prestigious Sharif University of Technology where, local media reported, riot police carrying steel pellet guns used tear gas and paintball guns against hundreds of students.

But, Petreaus warned, “It can still get worse for Putin and for Russia. And even the use of tactical nuclear weapons on the battlefield won’t change this at all.” Still, he added, “You have to take the threat seriously.”

According to CNN, Senator Marco Rubio, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Putin had two options: build defence lines or retreat and lose land.

Rubio asserted that he thought it "very likely" that Putin could target supply routes used by the US and its allies to reach Ukraine, including those located inside Poland. Although the senator accepted the nuclear threat, he stated that the main concern was "a Russian attack inside Nato territory, for example, aiming at the airport in Poland or some other distribution hub."

On Thursday, The United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted on a new set of rules to address the risk of orbital debris also known as space junk or space debris&nbsp;posing a threat to space exploration. This new rules were&nbsp;passed by a vote of 4-0 and it includes reducing&nbsp;the time to remove defunct satellites from the Earth’s orbit which may get in the way of spacecraft on active missions, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

“It will mean more accountability and less risk of collisions that increase orbital debris and the likelihood of space communication failures,” said the FCC chair, Jessica Rosenworcel. The agency would give the US operators a shorter deadline for post-mission disposal of low-Earth orbit satellites, changing from 25 years to 5 years.&nbsp;

Reportedly, the agency noted that 10,000 satellites have been launched since 1957 and that more than half of them are no longer active. “Defunct satellites, discarded rocket cores, and other debris now fill the space environment, creating challenges for current and future missions,” said the FCC. They also noted that there are more than 4,800 satellites in orbit by the end of 2021, while a large majority of them are commercial low-Earth orbit satellites.&nbsp;

The agency would give the US operators a shorter deadline for post-mission disposal of low-Earth orbit satellites, changing from 25 years to 5 years. Reportedly, the agency noted that 10,000 satellites have been launched since 1957 and that more than half of them are no longer active. “Defunct satellites, discarded rocket cores, and other debris now fill the space environment, creating challenges for current and future missions,” said the FCC. They also noted that there are more than 4,800 satellites in orbit by the end of 2021, while a large majority of them are commercial low-Earth orbit satellites. Today, the parties agreed to set aside their differences, and settle their legal dispute in order to avoid further pain and suffering caused by the lawsuit."

A settlement amount was not disclosed. The settlement was announced just two days before a trial was set to begin in a Minneapolis courtroom.

A valuable 1,000-year-old Christian manuscript that was taken by Bulgarian forces from a monastery in northern Greece more than a century ago has been returned, along with hundreds of other documents and artefacts, by a U.S. museum.

In a ceremony at the Eikosiphoinissa Monastery on Thursday, the 11th-century gospel was solemnly delivered in front of guests including Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and representatives from the Museum of the Bible in Washington.

The Greek manuscript, one of the oldest handwritten gospels in existence, is thought to have been created in southern Italy, according to the Archdiocese of America.

Elpidophoros on Thursday praised the Museum of the Bible for its "courtesy in recognizing where (the manuscript) belongs and returning it." 
 
"A historical injustice has been redressed," he said.

Marauding soldiers from the nearby country of Bulgaria robbed the gospel along with other 430 priceless manuscripts and hundreds of sacred relics. The majority remain missing.

During World War II, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/new-era-as-greece-bulgaria-gas-pipeline-starts-pumping-521539">Bulgarian</a> occupation forces affiliated with Nazi Germany set the eighth-century monastery on fire. Since then, it has been renovated and serves as a convent.

These police stations are affiliated with the Public Security Bureau (PSB) across Canada and have been set up to antagonise China’s adversaries, said Investigative Journalism Reportika citing local media. The report also claims that at least three such police stations are in the Greater Toronto Area alone.&nbsp;

The Investigative Journalism Reportika also alleges that Beijing is trying to influence elections in certain countries through these illegal police stations. The arrangement of these illegal police stations is also present in countries like Ukraine, France, Spain, Germany, and the UK. According to the Fuzhou police, they have already opened 30 such police stations in 21 different countries.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, China has reportedly called these facilities “vocational skill training centres” which they deemed necessary to “counter” extremism and improve livelihoods. In 2019, Chinese officials also indicated that most “trainees” had “graduated” from the centres.&nbsp;

This is reportedly a part of China’s efforts to combat “fraud” committed by these citizens and how the police stationed in the five continents have assisted authorities in Beijing to carry out “policing operations on foreign soil”.&nbsp;

“These operations eschew official bilateral police and judicial cooperation and violate the international rule of law, and may violate the territorial integrity in third countries involved in setting up a parallel policing mechanism using illegal methods,” read the report by Safeguard Defenders, a Spain-based human rights NGO.&nbsp;

According to the report, there are a total of 54 such stations in 30 different countries. It further indicates that Europe is home to a majority of these illegal police stations and they are in several major cities including Paris, Madrid, Prague, Budapest, Athens, and Frankfurt. There are reportedly also three such stations in the UK including two in London and one in Glasgow.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the report also claimed that there are four&nbsp;such stations in North America, three in Toronto and one in New York City. There are several illegal police stations in Asian countries like Japan, Uzbekistan, Brune, and Mongolia, said the report.&nbsp;

The report also details how Beijing has done this as an attempt to combat the growing issue of telecommunication fraud by Chinese nationals living abroad.
