<p>In the Thursday statement, the United States said that the nation will continue to provide Russia with notifications of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) launches in accordance with the 1988 Ballistic Missile Launch Notifications Agreement. But Washington will not be providing telemetric information on these launches.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Halting inspection activities</strong></h2>

<p>Another countermeasure was US refraining from facilitating New START Treaty inspection activities on its soil. It has done so by revoking existing visas issued to Russian New START Treaty inspectors and aircrew members.</p>

<p>To put a stop to any such inspection activities in the future also, Washington is also denying pending applications for such visas and is revoking the standing diplomatic clearance numbers issued for Russian New START Treaty inspection airplanes.</p>

<p>"Russia chose not to exercise its right to conduct inspection activities and has also denied the United States its right under the treaty to conduct inspection activities since August 2022, when it refused to accept a U.S. inspection," the statement read.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What is New START nukes treaty?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The treaty was signed in 2010 and was due to expire in 2026. Under the New START treaty's "Biannual Data Exchanges," the two nations are required to provide a declaration of deployed strategic delivery vehicles, launchers and warheads. The number is capped at no more than 1,550 strategic nuclear warheads and 700 land- and submarine-based missiles and bombers to deliver them.</p>

<p>The 45 bags which contained dismembered bodies were found at a forest overlook located in the Mirador del Bosque, a suburb of the western Mexican city of Guadalajara, reported DW.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the Jalisco state prosecutor’s office, which issued the statement about the bags, said it was not immediately clear if the remains were those of the seven missing workers but said that they will continue the search.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bags were recovered from a 40-metre-deep ravine in an area with difficult access, said the state prosecutors. According to a report by the Associated Press, firefighters and civil defence used a helicopter to recover remains from the gorge and will continue to inspect the site in the upcoming days.</p>

<p>The officials also said that they began investigating after they received a report of possible body parts in the area. The first bag of human remains was reportedly found on Tuesday which led to the discovery of dozens of them by the next day. Preliminary reports suggest that the remains are of both men and women.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The search is being coordinated by the police with the Zapopan city’s civil protection forces and firefighters who worked to extract the bags found from the ravine. A report by DW citing the prosecution said, forensic personnel were also present at the site to determine the number of possible victims and to try and identify them.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Missing people in Mexico</strong></h2>

<p>Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco, is considered to be home to the powerful cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG). A report by the AP citing federal government data said there are more than 110,000 missing people in Mexico out of which 15,000 are in Jalisco, which has reported the highest number.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In December, local authorities found four human skulls inside a package at the Queretaro Intercontinental Airport in central Mexico, headed to the United States. The skulls were found wrapped in aluminium foil inside a cardboard box and sent from the western coastal state of Michoacan, which is said to be one of the most violent parts of the country and destined for an address in the US state of South Carolina.&nbsp;</p>

Mexico: Authorities discover 45 bags with human remains in Guadalajara

<p>Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Thursday (June 1) that it had detected an American spy operation that used a sophisticated surveillance software that allegedly hacked into thousands of iPhones, including those of diplomats. Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab claimed dozens of its employees' devices were compromised in the operation.</p>

<p>The FSB, which is the main successor to Soviet-era KGB, reportedly released a statement saying that several thousand Apple devices had been infected. FSB said that these included devices of domestic Russian subscribers as well as foreign diplomats based in Russia.</p>

<p>"The FSB has uncovered an intelligence action of the American special services using Apple mobile devices," the agency said in a statement, as quoted by Reuters.</p>

<p>The FSB said the plot showed "close cooperation" between iPhone maker Apple and the National Security Agency (NSA), which is responsible for cryptographic and communications intelligence and security.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kaspersky researcher Igor Kuznetsov told Reuters that his company had independently discovered anomalous traffic on its corporate Wi-Fi network around the start of the year. He said Kaspersky did not circulate its findings to Russia's Computer Emergency Response Team until earlier on Thursday.</p>

<h2><strong>Foreign ministry backs FSB assertions</strong></h2>

<p>"The hidden data collection was carried out through software vulnerabilities in U.S.-made mobile phones," Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement.</p>

<p>"The U.S. intelligence services have been using IT corporations for decades in order to collect large-scale data of Internet users without their knowledge," the ministry said.</p>

<p>“We have been very clear with the Ukrainians privately — we’ve certainly been clear publicly — that we do not support attacks inside Russia. We do not enable and we do not encourage attacks inside Russia,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.</p>

<p>The US Defense Department said that the latest package brings the value to US security assistance to Ukraine to USD 37.6 billion so far.</p>

<p>"The United States will continue to work with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield needs and longer-term security assistance requirements," the Pentagon said in a statement.</p>

<p>Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Since then, the US has led an unprecedented effort by NATO and other allies to provide Ukraine with military, security&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;humanitarian&nbsp;aid.</p>

<p>He said that in spite of growing worries over this, the White House is confident that Ukraine will not use the US-built F-16 fighter jets to carry out attacks beyond Ukraine borders. European countries are set to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.</p>

<p>"We have gotten that assurance at various levels," Kirby said.</p>

<p>Kirby said that while Washington is full-heartedly backing the Ukrainian effort to defeat the Russian invasion, it wants to avoid situations that "suck in the West and NATO and the United States" and to "avoid World War III."</p>
