As a total solar eclipse called - 'The Great North American Eclipse' - is set to occur over parts of North America, the US civil aviation regulatory authority has issued a travel warning.

Notably, during a total solar eclipse, the moon passes between the Sun and Earth. During this phenomenon, the Moon casts a shadow on the Earth's surface and temporarily blocks out the sun's light. Because of this, the sky darkens and the sun's corona becomes visible which causes a visually appealing sight for skygazers.

Keeping the situation in mind for April 8, the day of the total solar eclipse, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has predicted an uptick in the air traffic. This is also because of the bustling chaos of spring break as families will be flocking to their holiday destinations.

FAA is anticipating that on coming Thursday (April 4), the traffic will rise with 50,670 flights. Moreover, 48,904 flights are expected to cover the skies on Friday (April 5), as per FAA.

However, vacationers are not only jetting off to sandy beaches or other vacation spots for spring break but many are also travelling to witness the spectacle of 'The Great North American Eclipse' slated for April 8.

The total solar eclipse will be visible from various locations across North America and generate interest among astronomers, and the general public. The event will draw crowds to locations within the eclipse's path of totality so that individuals who take an interest in this cosmic phenomenon can get a chance to witness it firsthand.

Baltimore bridge collapse: What are the economic ramifications of the major collision?

A US federal appeals court on late Tuesday (Mar 26) extended its hold on the controversial law in Texas that would allow the state’s law enforcement officials to detain and deport migrants on charges of illegally entering the country from the US-Mexico border.

What did the court say?

The three-judge panel in the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 that the Texas Senate Bill 4 (SB4), should remain blocked, in a decision issued overnight.

The court noted that the statutes in the new state law “significantly impair the exercise of discretion by federal immigration officials.”

The decision was made by the same court that blocked the controversial immigration law hours after the Supreme Court overturned a previous ruling from a different panel which had put the law into effect.

The court has also scheduled a hearing on April 3 to review a lower court ruling that last month blocked the law.

“For nearly 150 years, the Supreme Court has held that the power to control immigration—the entry, admission, and removal of noncitizens – is exclusively a federal power,” said Judge Priscilla Richman, who voted in favour of blocking the Texas law.

She also cited the 2012 Supreme Court ruling which had struck down a similar law in Arizona.

Richman noted that whatever the state’s criticisms about the federal government’s “actions and inactions” are, it is the president’s role to decide how to deal with “noncitizens illegally present” in the country.

Previous ruling to be reviewed

Last month, US District Judge David Ezra in the Texas city of Austin, agreed with Democratic President Joe Biden’s administration which argued that the law interferes with the federal government’s power over immigration granted by the US Constitution.

The Justice Department, back in January, sued the state of Texas and its governor to block the law which was supposed to take effect on March 5.

The director of Russia’s top security agency, on Tuesday (Mar 26) said that he believed that Ukraine, along with the United States and the United Kingdom, were involved in the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall near the Russian capital city of Moscow on Friday (Mar 22).

Meanwhile, a Russian court remanded an eighth suspect in custody over his alleged involvement in the mass shooting which claimed the lives of at least 139 people and left 182 others wounded.

Allegations by Russia’s FSB chief

Alexander Bortnikov, director of the Federal Security Service (FSB), said they believe that the terrorist attack was “prepared by both the Islamist radicals themselves and was facilitated by Western special services.”

This comes a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin, for the first time since the attack, acknowledged the involvement of “radical Islamists,” while reasserting his claims that Ukraine likely played a role in the shootout.

The Russian president continues to blame Ukraine despite the Islamic State claiming responsibility for the attack. Similarly, Bortnikov said “special services” of Ukraine are “directly related to this” claiming that Kyiv helped prepare Islamist radicals at an undisclosed location in the Middle East.

Russian reporters also asked the FSB chief if he thought Ukraine’s allies in the West, the US and the UK, were involved in the attack. “We think that’s the case. In any case, we are now talking about the texture that we have. This is general information,” said Bortnikov.

Ukrainian officials, including the president, have repeatedly denied any link to Friday’s attack and dismissed Russian accusations as lies.

The US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson previously said that Washington had shared intelligence with Russia about a planned attack in Moscow.

The FSB chief, when asked about the information supplied by the US, said it was not always very concrete, reported Reuters.

The United States and France say intelligence suggests the group was indeed behind the attack.

French President Emmanuel Macron, on Monday (Mar 25), said the current information available “indicates indeed that it was an entity of the Islamic State that instigated this attack.”

He also said that it would be “counterproductive” for Russia “to use this context to try and turn it against Ukraine.”

Eighth suspect remanded in custody

On Tuesday, a Russian court remanded in custody Kyrgyzstan-born Alisher Kasimov for his suspected involvement in Friday’s mass shooting and sent investigators to Tajikistan to question the families of four men charged for allegedly carrying out the attack.

Moscow has previously said that four suspected gunmen have confessed. However, the suspects showed signs of injuries when they appeared in court raising concerns that they had been tortured.

Russia’s commissioner for human rights Tatyana Moskalkova said that the detention of suspects should be carried out in accordance with the law, reported news agency TASS, and called it “absolutely unacceptable to use torture on detainees and defendants.”

In court, Kasimov, who has been accused of providing accommodation to the four Tajik men who allegedly carried out the attack, showed no visible signs of injury.

So far, Russian authorities have detained 11 people, including four suspected gunmen.

Allegations by Russia’s FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov, director of the Federal Security Service (FSB), said they believe that the terrorist attack was “prepared by both the Islamist radicals themselves and was facilitated by Western special services.” WATCH | Moscow Terror Attack: Russia's Putin says 'radical Islamists' behind attack This comes a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin, for the first time since the attack, acknowledged the involvement of “radical Islamists,” while reasserting his claims that Ukraine likely played a role in the shootout. Also Read | Putin repeats Islamist, Ukraine link with Moscow concert attack French President Emmanuel Macron, on Monday (Mar 25), said the current information available “indicates indeed that it was an entity of the Islamic State that instigated this attack.” He also said that it would be “counterproductive” for Russia “to use this context to try and turn it against Ukraine.” Eighth suspect remanded in custody On Tuesday, a Russian court remanded in custody Kyrgyzstan-born Alisher Kasimov for his suspected involvement in Friday’s mass shooting and sent investigators to Tajikistan to question the families of four men charged for allegedly carrying out the attack. Moscow has previously said that four suspected gunmen have confessed. However, the suspects showed signs of injuries when they appeared in court raising concerns that they had been tortured. Russia’s commissioner for human rights Tatyana Moskalkova said that the detention of suspects should be carried out in accordance with the law, reported news agency TASS, and called it “absolutely unacceptable to use torture on detainees and defendants.” Also Read | Turkey detains nearly 150 over alleged ISIS links after Moscow terror attack In court, Kasimov, who has been accused of providing accommodation to the four Tajik men who allegedly carried out the attack, showed no visible signs of injury. So far, Russian authorities have detained 11 people, including four suspected gunmen. (With inputs from agencies)

“Personnel on board the ship were able to alert the Maryland Department of Transportation that they had lost control of their vessel, as you all know and have reported,” said the US president.

He added, “As a result, local authorities were able to close the bridge to traffic before the bridge was struck, which undoubtedly saved lives,” said the US president.

On Tuesday (Mar 26), six workers who went missing after the bridge collapse had been presumed dead.

The officials from the US Coast Guard and the Maryland State Police said that given the length of time that has elapsed since the bridge collapse and the frigid temperatures of the waters, there was little, if any, chance that they could be found alive.
