Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are fighting in the war that still wages on in Eastern Europe, but people are still optimistic that it will all soon come to an end. However, in the interim, Ukrainians will need to celebrate this holiday season in whatever small way they can.&nbsp;

Next to the Saint Sophia Cathedral, the sole 12-metre-high artificial Christmas tree which stands tall in the heart of Ukraine is decorated with white doves to symbolise peace. Topping the tree is the country's coat of arm, the trident.

CNN further reported that Putin, without ruling out the possibility of initiating a nuclear war, said that the Russian nuclear arsenal looks more like a deterrent and not a provocation.

The Russian president said that they have a strategy and that they launch a strike in response to actions. He added that nation believes in using nuclear weapons for defence purposes, which they call a retaliatory strike. “That is, when we are struck, we strike in response,” Putin said.

The UK stated that the musicians' brigade, which is to be deployed soon after a campaign took place appealing to people to donate musical instruments to army troops, is similar to how "military music and organised entertainment" was historically used to boost the army's morale.

The police chief had received the two grenade launchers as presents during his visits to the police and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, RMF reported citing a source from a Polish delegation that visited the war-torn country.&nbsp;

The source added that officials assured the delegation that the launchers were not loaded, adding the delegation took them back to Warsaw before leaving them in the back room of Szymczyk's office. However, this news is not yet confirmed, Reuters further reported on Saturday.&nbsp;

Szymczyk has been criticised over the explosion. Polish media reported that commentators with backgrounds in the security services said that military equipment should not have been taken into Poland from outside the European Union (EU) or taken into an office.&nbsp;

"We firmly believe that a European future is the only way to solve a number of problems in the region, whether economic, social or ethnic," said Minister Bek.

In 2008, Kosovo, an Albanian-majority nation, declared independence from Serbia with the support of the West after the 1998-1999 war in which NATO’s intervention took place to protect the territory.

The Croatian government rejected a motion brought forward by the ruling government to train Ukrainian soldiers as part of a European Union initiative. The Croatian government showed its support towards the EU programme to train 15,000 soldiers from Ukraine but it has created a split in the country. President Zoran Milanovic expressed his displeasure at the government’s stance and said that&nbsp;a move like this will&nbsp;"involve Croatia in the war more than is necessary", according to AFP.&nbsp;

"It would mean bringing the war into Croatia," Milanovic, the commander-in-chief of the army, said.&nbsp;

The government needed a two-thirds majority in the parliament in order to ensure the passage of the motion but with just 97 MPs backing the proposal, they failed to go forward with it. Ahead of the vote, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic accused the president of having "pro-Russian views".&nbsp;

The International Finance Corp said the new Economic Resilience Action Program for Ukraine includes up to $1 billion from IFC’s own account, with additional financing contingent on guarantees from donor governments.

IFC's regional manager Lisa Kaestner had announced in a conference last month that this support would be extended over the next 18-24 months.

According to Ukraine's central bank, 11 per cent of businesses in the country have shut down because of war as of September 2022. The bank added that more than half were operating below capacity.

“The Ukrainian private sector has demonstrated unprecedented resilience in the face of this war,” said IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop.

“Supporting that resilience and continuing to build private sector capacity is a priority for us. Deploying capital during this extraordinary time is essential to keep businesses and vital services running, and, when the time is right, prepare for the massive reconstruction efforts to come,” Diop said.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February this year. The conflict has caused extensive damage to infrastructure in Ukraine. Before war, the private sector contribute up to 70 per cent of Ukraine's GDP.

IFC said at least 5 million jobs have been lost.

The program will provide emergency liquidity support for agribusiness and trade finance, including for fuel imports, IFC said. It will support agricultural trade routes and logistics and aid displaced people and affected municipalities.

"Houses were bombed and families were displaced," Murray said in a statement. "Young children were affected by this, with many injured and in some cases dying. I wasn't sure what I could do to help.

"I decided that from Indian Wells onwards, I would donate my prize money for the rest of the season to UNICEF's humanitarian response -- the final total was just over $630,000.

"It seemed like something that would give me some extra motivation this year. I thought I could also raise awareness and hopefully get others involved in helping, too."

Murray's individual total falls just below a joint donation of $700,000 made by the ATP, WTA, ITF as well as the four Grand Slams earlier this year. Former world number one Roger Federer had also donated $500,000.

"There are 7.5 million children in Ukraine and after more than nine months of increased conflict, 5.2 million of them are in need of assistance," Murray said.

"When you see images of children on the news who were impacted... that makes it even more difficult to stomach. I have four young children who are fortunate everything is fine with them... But being a parent, it affects you differently."

Tatyana Fannouch, a UNICEF Programme Specialist said from Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine, that Murray's donation meant they could provided medical supplies and services to children including those who fled their homes for safety.

"We've reached vulnerable families in hard-to-reach areas with life-saving supplies and protection services. For all this support that you (Murray) provided for the children of Ukraine, thank you," Fannouch said.

The Spike Anti-Tank Guided Missile, the Medium Range Surface to Air Missile(MRSAM) and Spice guidance kits for air dropped bombs are a few Rafael systems used by India.&nbsp;

Speaking to WION on the sidelines of the roll out of the 100th&nbsp;MRSAM from the Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems(KRAS) Indo-Israeli facility in Hyderabad, Har-Even said that Rafael has been working in India for more than 25 years. "Five years ago, we got the vision from the Indian Prime Minister for Make-in-India and we joined with the Kalyani group to establish KRAS and make the private sector a relevant player in the defence industry" he said.

On the plans to export made-in-India missiles and technology to foreign customers, he said that it would be possible once large quantity of production is achieved and the hardware is first inducted in adequate numbers into the Indian Armed forces. He indicated that there is a lot of potential to export made-in-India missiles and hardware, which is jointly developed with Rafael. The Israeli-firm is looking to export such hardware to their customers around the world.&nbsp;

Queried about the future projects of Rafael, he said that the company had a heritage of developing the 'Trophy' active protection system for battle tanks, 'Spike' family of anti-tank guided missile, Iron Dome Missile system and 'Litening' electro-optic targeting pod. "We are now developing and producing the next-gen of all the missiles, electro-optic and communications systems, these are all relevant to the Indian market. Once the customer decides that they want certain capabilities, we are ready to not only sell, but to produce and do some of the development in India. This is our vision and we are going to do it" he said.&nbsp;

While Har-Even agreed that the impact of the Ukraine-Russia war had caused production slowdown of defence hardware and some shortages, he said that it had also led to an increased demand for weapons and that Rafael would be ready to meet the demand. "What has happened in the commercial world(supply-chain) issues has influenced all of us, but we will overcome" he said.&nbsp;

Ukraine presidency’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak said on Wednesday that the government was able to secure the release of 64 members of their military in the latest prisoner swap with Russia. Reuters also reported that the people who were involved in the swap also included a United States citizen.

"Sixty-four soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who fought in Donetsk and Lugansk -- in particular participated in the defence of the city of Bakhmut -- are going home," Yermak said on social media.

Murekezi was arrested by the Russian forces in the Donetsk region in June and the authorities charged him with attending anti-Russian protests and “ethnic hatred”. Russia's state-run TASS news agency also said that he was born in Rwanda before moving to the US with his family in 1994.

This was the first prisoner swap since US basketball star Brittney Griner was allowed to return home from the Russian prison. In exchange, Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout returned to his country.
