Following his assassination, Iran retaliated by launching missiles at bases in Iraq housing American and coalition troops, resulting in traumatic brain injuries to several US personnel.

This isn't the first time Iranian courts have ruled against the United States.

In the past, compensation orders included a $420 million payment for a 1980 hostage rescue operation and a $330 million demand related to an alleged coup attempt in 1980.

Additionally, the US Supreme Court, in 2016, ordered frozen Iranian assets in the US to be paid to victims of attacks blamed on Tehran, despite Iran denying responsibility.

Iran has consistently appealed to international justice to unfreeze funds held by Washington, and in March, the International Court of Justice deemed the freezing of funds "manifestly unreasonable."

However, the court stated it lacked jurisdiction to release nearly $2 billion in Iranian central bank assets frozen by the US.

Iran and the US have had no diplomatic relations since the aftermath of the 1979 revolution.

Santos is a Trump loyalist, who is supporting the former president amidst allegations that he illegally paid off a porn star to hide his alleged affair before the 2016&nbsp;elections. Santos recently wrote on Twitter that “the weaponized justice system is going after conservatives with political bias.”

Santos was&nbsp;a Republican representative for New York's 3rd congressional district. He was elected to Congress in 2022. His Congressional election campaign soon fell prey to an investigative report by the New York Times which revealed Santos misrepresented various aspects of his career.

<h2>Myriad controversies surrounding George Santos&nbsp;</h2>

Following the big revelation by NY Times, Santos acknowledged "embellishing" his resume, but new information about his background kept coming to light. Santos misrepresented his employment at Goldman Sachs to a Seattle judge in 2017 during a bail hearing for a "family friend," but he has since confessed he never had a direct employment relationship with the investment company.

He was also questioned by the US&nbsp;Secret Service in 2017 as part of an investigation into international credit card fraud. Although, his link to the case is still unknown and he was not named a suspect in the investigation.

Federal and state investigators are looking into his finances, including how his 2022 congressional campaign was funded, how long he worked for a company that allegedly ran a Ponzi scam, and how he allegedly helped a pet charity pretend to raise money for a dying veteran's dog. Santos has refuted any misconduct in all of these cases.

Concerns about Santos' campaign expenditures have also been filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Judge Arthur Engoron who is presiding over Trump’s civil fraud trial imposed another fine on the former president after summoning him from the defence table to testify about the comments he made to reporters hours earlier during a break about “a person who’s very partisan sitting alongside” the judge.

The remarks were seen as a violation of the partial gag order issued three weeks ago. This comes after the judge had already ordered all participants in the trial not to comment publicly about his staff.

The latest fine came after Trump said Engoron is a “very partisan judge with a person who’s very partisan sitting alongside him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is.” The former president and his lawyers insisted the comment was about Michael Cohen, a former Trump attorney who had been testifying.

However, the judge said that “the defendant was not credible” before imposing a fine. Subsequently, according to AFP, Trump abruptly left the courtroom. The former president has also repeatedly called out Engoron, calling him a “Trump-hating judge.”&nbsp;

Notably, the partial gag order does not stop the former president from attacking the judge but only orders a halt to attacks on court staff. On the witness stand, Trump told the judge that the remark was aimed at “you and Cohen,” as per the Associated Press.&nbsp;
