A court in West Bengal's Nadia district has ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra over her alleged non-compliance with an earlier order directing her appearance in an alleged hate speech case. The Krishnagar court has also directed that the execution report of the arrest warrant be submitted before it on August 28. Moitra is facing allegations of insulting women and making hate speech. The court had earlier issued pre-cognisance summons to her in connection with the case.

As West Bengal&nbsp;gears&nbsp;up for the elections with 42 parliamentary constituencies in the state, TMC attempted a seat-sharing agreement with the Congress as part of the Opposition's INDIA bloc, but failed.

As recently as Sunday (Mar 10), the West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee declared that there would be no seat adjustments with Congress in the state.

This is yet another statement by the state CM after her January comments where she affirmed the TMC's decision to contest alone in West Bengal after failed negotiations with the Congress. "Whatever proposal I gave them, they have refused all," she had stated while adding, "Since then, we have decided to go alone in Bengal."

The negotiations seemingly failed after TMC's stance on seat-sharing remained firm. The party had offered only two seats to the Congress based on electoral performance criteria, which&nbsp;was rejected by the grand old party.

Media reports citing sources have said that the candidate list to be announced by the TMC may feature familiar names. This could include current MPs, while also introducing some fresh faces.&nbsp;In a surprising move, the TMC might also announce candidate names&nbsp;for Assam, Meghalaya, and Uttar Pradesh.

The announcement coincided with the 'Jana Garjan Sabha' rally. The rally led by the state CM drew a massive crowd of supporters.&nbsp;

Indian Prime Minister Narendra on Saturday (March 9) launched a scathing attack against Trinamool Congress and the opposition's INDIA bloc claiming that the "entire country is discussing what TMC leaders did to the Dalit and Adivasi women of Sandeshkhali" and that the government of West Bengal is unaffected when people are struggling or suffering.

While addressing a gathering in Siliguri, PM Modi accused the TMC of creating 25 lakh fake job cards to benefit the party's "tolabaz".

"TMC government gives money to people chosen by 'tolabaz'. It does not affect TMC whether you are struggling or suffering. The entire country is discussing what TMC leaders did to the Dalit and Adivasi women of Sandeshkhali. Atrocities against women and to loot the hard-earned money of the poor this is what TMC's 'tolabaz' do," he said.

He then slammed the TMC over the release of MGNREGA wages and said that the BJP-ruled Centre sends the money but the TMC government steals it.

This comes a day after the announcement that leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge will represent the party in the rally, owing to the absence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at the mega event.

TMC is organising the rally to gather support for a <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/tmc-rally-to-see-participation-of-non-bjp-political-leaders-from-kashmir-to-kanyakumari-mamata-190607">pan-India anti-BJP front</a>.&nbsp;

Party chief Mamata Banerjee had been touring the country for the last one year in an effort to shore up a strong and united opposition front to fight the Lok Sabha elections against the BJP.

According to sources in the West Bengal Congress, the state unit of the party wanted Rahul and Sonia to skip the rally and instead send a party leader.&nbsp;

Also, the state leadership is believed to have told the party chief that Congress workers were ready to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone.

West Bengal Congress leaders were also annoyed over the TMC supremo not inviting any state leader for the rally.

Rahul, in the past, had assured his state party unit that any decision on forging an alliance with the TMC will be taken after considering state leadership`s opinion.

Kolkata: Left to skip TMC rally on January 19

Dealing a body blow to the ruling BJP, opposition parties on Thursday emerged victorious in 9 out of 10 Assembly seats even as the BJP asserted that the PM -- which it described as 'P' for performance and&nbsp; 'M' for Mehnat (hard work) -- would decide the Lok Sabha polls next year.

Figures for the 10 assembly bypolls came as a big setback for the ruling party which could win just one (in Uttarakhand). The Congress bagged three (in Meghalaya, Karnataka and Punjab) and others got six -- JMM two in Jharkhand CPI (M), SP, RJD and Trinamool one each in Kerala, UP, Bihar and West Bengal, respectively.

The Congress also won one assembly seat in Maharashtra without contest after all other parties withdrew their candidates.

The party, which retained RR Nagar assembly in Karnataka and another in Meghalaya, termed the bypoll results as the people's mandate against four years of the Modi rule and the beginning of the end of the BJP empire.

"The writing on the wall is clear. The BJP's exit and success of the Congress and its allies are guaranteed," Congress leader Pramod Tiwari told reporters.

The BJP and its allies failed to retain Noorpur in UP and Shahkot in Punjab, while Congress, CPI (M), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Trinamool retained their respective seats.

The BJP retained Tharali in Uttarakhand, but lost Noorpur in UP. SP's Naeemul Hasan trounced BJP's Avni Singh in Noorpur.

In Bihar, RJD won minority-dominated Jokihat by defeating BJP ally JD(U) by a huge margin.&nbsp;

A buoyed Tejashwi Yadav of RJD said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who dumped the RJD and Congress last year to join hands with the BJP to form a new coalition government in the state, should resign if he has some conscience left.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi congratulating all the winners said valuable lessions to be learnt from the victories and defeats for all the parties.

Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said one has to take two steps backward before a big leap and the BJP is "going to take a massive leap."

BJP's Subramanian Swamy, however, had a word of caution for the party and said the "this huge setback in by polls is due to Hubris".

"But the trend is easily reversible if party stops rewarding sycophancy and has more participatory decision-making ethos amongst those leaders whom the public find credible. BJP has the infrastructure to bounce back but needs a new ethos," he said.

AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the results reflect the anger against the Modi government.

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav called the results "a defeat of divisive politics" and congratulated all opposition parties for the results.&nbsp;

RLD's Jayant Chaudhary said the opposition unity will continue and the results showed that "Jinnah hara, Ganna jeeta" -- referring to the recent controversy over the Pakistan founder's portrait and the problems being faced by sugarcane farmers.

CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechuri said BJP's loss at its "laboratory of communal and hate politics", Kairana, clearly showed that people did not accept the ruling party's politics but warned that the loss could push the RSS-BJP to spread communal tensions to consolidate the "Hindutva vote bank".

In Punjab, Congress' Hardev Singh Ladi wrested Shahkot from the Shiromani Akali Dal.&nbsp;

Trinamool's Dulal Das won Maheshtala bypoll in West Bengal, defeating BJP's Sujit Kumar Ghosh. The Left came third.

In Kerala, Left's Saji Cheriyan won Chengannur bypoll. The Congress came second and the BJP third.

JMM retained Silli and Gomia seats in Jharkhand. In Gomia, JMM's Babita Devi defeated AJSU nominee Lambodar Mahto, while BJP came third. In Silli, JMM's Seema Mahto defeated AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto.&nbsp;

Assembly bypoll results: Opposition scoops 9 leaving one seat to BJP

Trinamool Congress on Wednesday won four municipalities in West Bengal -- one in Darjeeling hills and three in the plains -- while Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) captured three civic bodies in the hills including Darjeeling. 
 
Official sources said that TMC won Domkal municipality in Murshidabad district capturing 18 of the 21 wards. Congress emerged victorious in the rest two seats while CPI(M) bagged one. 
 
In Raigunj municipality of North Dinajpur district, TMC caputured 24 of the 27 wards while Congress won in two wards and BJP in one.

GJM also won the civic body in Kalimpong capturing 19 of the 23 seats while TMC bagged two. 
 
Jan Andolan Party of Harka Bahadur Chetri, a former GJM leader who tried to outsmart the Morcha, failed to make a major gain in Kalimpong and managed to win only two seats. 
 
Election to the seven municipalities were held on May 14.

Trinamool Congress on Wednesday won four municipalities in West Bengal -- one in Darjeeling hills and three in the plains -- while Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) captured three civic bodies in the hills including Darjeeling. Official sources said that TMC won Domkal municipality in Murshidabad district capturing 18 of the 21 wards. Congress emerged victorious in the rest two seats while CPI(M) bagged one.
