<p>Xylazine consumption can result in lowered blood pressure and critically low levels of heart rate. It can also cause skin ulcers and abscesses. This may further lead to amputation.</p>

<p>Gupta said the federal government will publish a plan within 90 days on ways to combat the overdose scourge caused by xylazine, also known as the "zombie drug."</p>

<p>The plan would look at increasing testing capacity, withdrawal management, treatment protocols and attacking the supply chain of illicit xylazine, he said.</p>

<p>"President Biden remains committed to beating the overdose crisis," Gupta said. "We need support from Congress for this and we'll continue to work with members of both parties on this urgent issue."</p>

This particularly affected&nbsp;the 38 species of butterflyfish.&nbsp;The colourfully patterned reef fish are amongst the first to be hit by the effects of bleaching primarily because they eat coral, which means their food source is directly under threat.&nbsp;Sally Keith, a marine ecologist at Britain's Lancaster University who spoke to AFP said that the history's worst global bleaching events in 2016 offered a perfect opportunity to study fish behaviour.</p>

<p>After returning to the same spot after a year, researchers were shocked to see the devastation of the reefs and the subsequent dearth of food for the&nbsp;butterflyfish.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"That changed the playing field of who's eating what," Keith said, putting different species of butterflyfish in increased competition for other types of coral.</p>

<p>The most common tactic of a butterfly fish to signal to a competitor&nbsp;that a particular reef is theirs is by pointing its nose down and raising its spiny&nbsp;dorsal fins.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The team observed 3,700 encounters between butterflyfish. Before the coral bleaching event, different species of butterflyfish were able to settle disputes using signalling around 28 per cent of the time. But, those numbers plummeted to 10 per cent&nbsp;after the bleaching event, indicating many 'unnecessary fights' according to the new study in the journal, Proceedings of the Royal Society B.</p>

<p>Over 150 million serious infections and over 1.7 million fatalities globally are annually attributed to fungus infections.</p>

<p>However, during the pandemic, the infections—which proliferated in hospitals and can be fatal for patients with compromised immune systems—became increasingly widespread.</p>

<p>The pathogens target individuals with compromised immune systems, such as those who are battling <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/covid-flare-up-at-worlds-largest-iphone-factory-in-china-affects-operations-528785">COVID-19</a>. Steroids are one of the Covid treatments that can make the body's defences against fungus even weaker.</p>

<p>The health organisation encouraged nations to strengthen their mechanisms for detecting the 19 types of hazardous fungi and taking action.</p>

<p>According to Dr. Haileyesus Getahun, Director of the WHO's AMR Global Coordination Department, "Countries are encouraged to follow a step-by-step approach, starting with strengthening their fungal disease laboratory and surveillance capacities, and ensuring equitable access to existing quality therapeutics and diagnostics, globally."</p>
