This number looks great as China’s national box office for 2022 currently struggles because of the COVID situation in the Asian nation. As of Sunday, some 14 provinces had reported local omicron cases, including the cities of Beijing and Shanghai. Cinemas in high-risk areas like Tianjin and Xi’an have been closed for days.

A day before Christmas, some of the biggest and the most anticipated films of the season hit screens. Bollywood sports drama '83' - featuring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev- opened to theatres across the country has received mostly positive reviews from critics. On OTT, Netflix released the satirical comedy 'Don't Look Up' starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence headline this ensemble film about a comet heading towards the earth and how mankind is reacting to the impending doom. Akshay Kumar and Dhanush, two of the biggest names in Indian cinema team up with Sara Ali Khan for Anand L Rai's 'Atrangi Re' which hit Disney+Hotstar. Netflix also released the second season of 'Emily In Paris' where Emily takes on new adventures in the French capital.&nbsp;

Their excitement in hours turns into fear as they realise the comet is coming straight at Earth which can lead to the destruction of mankind. &nbsp;With the help of the NASA chief, they manage to get an appointment with the President of the United States Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep), who after making them wait for a day, finally is willing to devote 20 minutes of her time to the concerned scientist. I haven’t told you anything new until now and you’ll feel the same after watching the first half an hour running time of the recently released film ‘The Matrix Resurrections’.&nbsp;

Keanu Reeves’ Neo is back where he started off – being Thomas Anderson, only now he is no longer the illegal hacker of 1999 but a video game developer for Warner Bros (yes, that plug is there) who has made games that are (wait for it) the Matrix trilogy! And now he’s being asked to make a sequel to the trilogy (yes, the makers are being smug here). But does he look good!

Both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have aged gracefully and look old and we’re not complaining. Their chemistry sizzles like old times.

Film’s director Lana Wachowski brings together nostalgic elements that bind the film together but lacks the punch that the first film had…but to be honest, how many sequels live up to their predecessors? She brings the dingy industrial spaceships, robots with metal tentacles back to show what the real world looks like – much like what you’d remember from the original film. There’s also lots of action (obviously) and some kickass stunts but somehow it all pales in comparison to what we saw in the 1999 film. One thing good, however, is that the humans in the illusive world no longer need telephone booths to jump to and fro. So that’s quite a relief, given we’ve jumped two decades since the first film came out.&nbsp;

Priyanka Chopra also finds a credible mention as she plays Sati. While her screen time is less, she gets a meaty, chunky role and she does justice to it. She plays a crucial role in getting Neo and Trinity together as the actress proves her acting mettle yet again.&nbsp;

The Matrix Resurrections movie review: Slow but worth it

Days before the official premiere of ‘The Matrix Resurrections’, the Keanu Reeves starrer has found its way to the torrent sites worldwide. The film will be releasing officially in the theatres and on HBO Max on December 24. Meanwhile, it is already available to watch on torrent sites and other networks that enable piracy.&nbsp;

The pirated versions as per reports are poor copies of bad quality and full of advertisements. We at WION, do not condone piracy.&nbsp;

The first leaked downloadable Matrix Resurrections version landed on multiple torrent sites on December 19. This was a couple of days after the film released in Russia, Japan, Thailand and four other markets.
