The researchers said that the bacteria can act as a new tool for eradicating one of the oldest diseases in the world, which has been taking the lives of more than 600,000 people every year.<o:p></o:p>

The discovery was made by the scientists at a research facility in Spain, which is run by the GSK pharmaceutical company after they noticed that a colony of mosquitoes which were being used for drug development had stopped the transfer of malaria.

"The infection rate in the mosquitoes started dwindling and so by the end of the year the mosquitoes just would not be infected with the malaria parasite," said Dr Janneth Rodrigues, who headed the programme, while speaking to BBC.<o:p></o:p>

<h2 class="MsoNormal">Frozen samples lead to new discovery<o:p></o:p></h2>

The samples were frozen by the team from their 2014 experiment and went back to them after two years, through which they made the new discovery. <o:p></o:p>

The studies further revealed that a specific strain of bacteria - TC1, which is present naturally in the environment had stopped the malaria parasites’ development in the gut of the mosquitoes.<o:p></o:p>

"Once it colonises the mosquito, it lasts for the entire lifespan," said Dr Rodrigues to BBC. "And we found out that, yes, it is the bacteria which was responsible for reducing transmission in those mosquitoes,” he added. <o:p></o:p>

According to the new data which was published in Science magazine, a mosquito's parasite load can be reduced by around 73 per cent by the bacteria. <o:p></o:p>

The bacteria function by secreting a small molecule, which is known as harmane, and inhibits the early stages of growth of the malaria parasite in the mosquito's gut.<o:p></o:p>

The GSK scientists, in conjunction with Johns Hopkins University, discovered that either harmane can be ingested orally by the mosquito, if it is mixed with sugar, or is absorbed through its cuticle on contact.

"Malaria kills a child every minute. Significant progress has been made in reducing the global burden of malaria, but to get us back on track we need new and innovative tools in the arsenal. With a strong innovation pipeline, it is possible to end the threat of malaria in our lifetimes,” he said.

Moreover, the United States has an easy citizenship test compared to Germany, Canada, and the United Kingdom. However, the US authorities have deemed the updated test, scheduled to release next year, as essential after 15 years. Equality on the World Stage

For the first time, France tested its home-grown hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV), a type of warhead for ballistic missiles that can manoeuvre freely and glide at hypersonic speed.

V-Max, the French glider, was launched on Monday from a sounding rocket — which allows precise measurements — from the Biscarosse missile test site on the Bay of Biscay, southwestern France, the country’s defence procurement agency, the Direction générale de l’armement (DGA), said.

VMaX stands for Véhicule Manoeuvrant Expérimental or experimental manoeuvring vehicle.

The French HGV has the capacity to exceed Mach 5, or 6,000 kilometres per hour (3,730 mph).

The agency did not give details on the outcome of the test but said an analysis of data collected during the test was underway.

<h2>Few countries developing it</h2>

So far, only a handful of countries possess or are developing this technology that includes China, Russia, and the United States.

“Equipped with many on-board technological innovations, this flight test was an unprecedented technical challenge that prepares the future of our national hypervelocity roadmap,” the DGA commented the day after the test.

“France&nbsp;is one of the only countries in the world to have credible expertise in this field.”&nbsp;

"Its flight test, on a very demanding long-range trajectory, represented an unprecedented technical challenge that will pave the way for the future of our national hypervelocity roadmap," the agency said in a statement.

The contract to make a glide vehicle was given by the French government to aerospace company ArianeGroup in 2019.

<h2>Hypersonic gliders</h2>

Hypersonic gliders are designed to carry a nuclear or conventional warhead. Unlike ballistic missiles whose trajectories are fixed at launch, hypersonic gliders can change direction at high speed, allowing them to zigzag past air defences and take evasive action once targeted by anti-air missiles.

Back in October 2020, French Navy’s (Marine Nationale) Chief of Staff Admiral Pierre Vandier shared some details on the project during&nbsp;a hearing at the French Senate.

“The hypersonic threat is a major consideration for us. Having missiles of this type is essential in the naval combat of today and tomorrow. The Chinese, and to a lesser extent the Russians, have developed a number of hypersonic weapons. The protesting group caused a delay to England's team bus last week&nbsp;while they were en route stadium on the first morning of the one-off Test against Ireland. Australia, one of the two WTC finalists, also faced a delay after being stuck in traffic on Monday morning while traveling to the Oval for training.

The ICC has also altered its playing conditions for the final by adding a clause for the use of another pitch in case the one is use gets damaged or is dangerous to play on. The ICC, however, will assess the existing pitch first to see if the repairs can be done and the match can get&nbsp;started from the point it was stopped without affecting any of the participating teams.

The new pitch will be used only if the original one can't be repaired. Although, if it is not possible to use the substitute pitch as well, the match will then be abandoned and would be deemed a no-result.

The test will be reduced in duration from three to two hours by streamlining the test's instructions and navigation. In place of the old autonomous writing job, condensed reading part, and test questions without grades, a new "writing for an academic discussion" task will be added.

“Those taking English language proficiency test TOEFL will now know official score release date upon completion of exam," ETS said.

A spokeswoman for Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez said Canadians will not be intimidated and called it disappointing that Google is borrowing from Meta's playbook.

"Canadians need to have access to quality, fact-based news at the local and national levels, and that’s why we introduced the Online News Act. Tech giants need to be more transparent and accountable to Canadians," the spokeswoman said.

Last year, Facebook had warned of blocking of some news content in Canada in response to concerns about legislation that would compel platforms to pay news publishers.

According to a report, a similar law in Australia, which led to brief shutdown of Facebook news feeds, has largely worked.

On request, an ISRO Official elaborated to WION about the major takeaways from the rocket engine test carried out by the Indian space agency on November 9.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The indigenously designed and developed LVM3 rocket has had a design load of carrying 4 tonnes to Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and almost 10 tonnes to Low Earth Orbit (LEO). However, the rocket has so far, in five launches to date, not flown with a full payload. &nbsp;

As the payload (satellite) is made for a certain purpose/mission, it would have a particular mass and it need not be as much as the entire carrying capacity of the rocket.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In terms of the heaviest payloads carried by the LVM3 rocket, it had lifted 3.85 tonnes to GTO during Chandrayaan-2, India's second Lunar mission, and 5.8 tonnes to LEO, for the recent October-end commercial launch for 'OneWeb'. This means that the capability to lift more payload exists, but the vehicle has not yet had an opportunity to do so.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to the ISRO Official, the latest test has further increased the design load of the LVM3 rocket. In layman's terms, the test has given ISRO the confidence to carry more payloads on LVM3 than the current limits. &nbsp;

"After this test, the design load of LVM3 to GTO is around 4.5 tonnes (up from 4 tons) and the design load to GTO is around 10.65 tonnes,” the ISRO official explained.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In terms of the engine being tested at a higher thrust, the official stated that it was good increase —-from the earlier 19 tonnes to 21.8 tonnes. The higher thrust is obtained by increasing the quantity of fuel being stored in the tanks and also by increasing the rate of flow of fuel to the engine. &nbsp;

"The propellant loading(fuel) was earlier 28 tonnes and now we are using 32 tonnes of fuel" the official added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In order to increase the payload carrying capacity of the LVM3 rocket, ISRO is testing the CE-20 engine at higher thrusts and also working on developing a new Semi-cryogenic engine 'SC-120', which is meant to replace the existing L110 stage on the LVM3 rocket.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The&nbsp;GSLV&nbsp;Mk3&nbsp;rocket or LVM3&nbsp;is a three-stage heavy lift launch vehicle developed by ISRO. The vehicle has two solid 'S200' strap-on motors (burns solid fuel), 'L110' core-stage liquid booster (burns a combination of liquid fuels) and a 'C25' cryogenic upper stage (burns liquid hydrogen with liquid oxygen).&nbsp;
