Wong, 34, fears he will soon join the exodus of teachers and&nbsp;students&nbsp;triggered by Beijing's tightening grip on&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong, which has started transforming local&nbsp;schools, according to multiple educators.

The latest government figures show more than 4,000 teachers left their jobs in the past&nbsp;school&nbsp;year, a five-year high and a 70 per cent spike from the year before.

"I have no faith in the future of&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong&nbsp;or that of the industry. It is hard to nurture a person in this environment," Wong, who asked to use just his surname, told AFP.

The political crackdown has coincided with the coronavirus pandemic, during which&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong&nbsp;has kept strict zero-Covid rules that fuelled further departures.&nbsp;

Students&nbsp;have pulled out of&nbsp;school&nbsp;in droves, with 30,000 fewer attending primary and secondary&nbsp;school&nbsp;in September 2021 compared to the preceding October.

Wong, who has taught for more than a decade, said five teenagers from his class of 32 withdrew halfway through a term to emigrate.

"The&nbsp;students&nbsp;are leaving not because they dislike the&nbsp;school, but because of&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong's environment."

Patriotic classrooms

China is remoulding once outspoken&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong&nbsp;in its own authoritarian image, following massive and sometimes violent democracy protests in 2019 in which youngsters played a key part.

Teachers have since been ordered to instil patriotism in&nbsp;students&nbsp;and comply with a Beijing-imposed national security law that has criminalised much dissent.

Curriculums are being tweaked to align more closely with Chinese Communist Party ideology.

Earlier this month, teachers were told to "study and learn the key messages" of a recent speech by President Xi Jinping.

Students&nbsp;and parents have also been encouraged to report teachers who might be breaching the security law.&nbsp;

Wong received a letter of reprimand from&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong's Education Bureau last year after his teaching materials analysing the pros and cons of civil disobedience drew anonymous complaints.

"It shattered the trust that was fundamental to teaching," he recalled.

Between 2019 and 2021,&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong&nbsp;authorities received 344 complaints against teachers in relation to the democracy protests, with 55 percent of cases found to be substantiated.

One high-school&nbsp;principal told AFP he would instruct staff to keep their heads down and comply with government guidelines to the letter.

"Everyone is being very careful... If some (teaching materials) may touch on political sensitivities, then we'll skirt around it," said the principal, who requested anonymity.

"Nobody wants trouble and the teachers don't want to be held personally responsible."

Lower standards?

Authorities have rejected the idea of an emigration wave and argue teachers choose to leave their posts for various reasons, including retirement and further study.

Hong&nbsp;Kong's education chief said&nbsp;schools&nbsp;were generally operating smoothly and there were enough qualified teachers despite a "slightly higher" attrition rate.

But a recent survey of 140&nbsp;schools&nbsp;showed each institution&nbsp;on average lost 32&nbsp;students&nbsp;and seven teachers over the past year.

Newspaper Ming Pao surveyed its classified section and found at least 200&nbsp;schools&nbsp;were still looking for teachers in late July. In previous years, most vacancies would be filled by the end of May.

Administrators say some&nbsp;schools&nbsp;have been forced to hire less-qualified candidates.

Schools&nbsp;are also competing to poach&nbsp;students, as their headcount often determines their government subsidies and protects against closure.&nbsp; 
 
And education is not the only sector affected by&nbsp;brain&nbsp;drain.

The city's labour force has dropped about six percent since 2018 to 3.75 million people, according to the latest official figures, the lowest number in nearly a decade.

A new generation of&nbsp;Hong&nbsp;Kong&nbsp;teachers are now weighing options and assessing risks that come with their careers.

University graduate Mak, 23, has spent a year teaching English at a secondary&nbsp;school&nbsp;even though he does not have a&nbsp;teacher's diploma -- a fact his employer did not seem to mind.

"I'll continue teaching for the next few years, but not necessarily in the long term," he said.

Mak feels he has little control over what happens to his profession.

"There's not much that can be changed," he sighed.&nbsp;"You either&nbsp;submit, or&nbsp;quit."

Later, Luo challenged the arbitration ruling. The company, however, refused to accept the order and even refused to pay the teacher’s compensation for unjust dismissal, as per media reports.

Judge Liao Yajing of the Guangzhou Tianhe People’s Court, hearing the case, said that if companies require their employees to work from home, they shouldn’t expect them to work as if they are working in an office. She further stated, "The employer's rules should not only comply with the laws but should also be fair and reasonable," BBC reported.

A good teacher is one that makes you understand the subject. However, a great teacher is one that not only teaches you about the subject but also inspires you to become a better human. A teacher with empathy and devotion towards their students always stands out and thus when that teacher leaves, it leaves a certain void.

A similar void was felt by the little kids of the Composite School in&nbsp;Uttar Pradesh's&nbsp;Sonbhadra district. In the Chakiya block of the region, teacher Shivendra Singh Baghel was preparing to leave the Composite School after having taught there since 2018.

Baghel&nbsp;had recently received his transfer orders, which meant that he had to shift to Hardoi district for his next assignment. However, during the farewell, several children could not hold back and&nbsp;started crying whilst tugging&nbsp;onto their beloved teacher's sleeves, asking him not to leave the school.&nbsp;

A Mississippi-based woman was left fuming after her son’s schoolteacher allegedly ‘humiliated’ him by giving a ‘zero award’ in the class.

“I think it was so horrible for him to get this award,”&nbsp;Patricia Buckley&nbsp;told local ABC outlet WAPT.

She said that her son Bradley, 14, received a demoralising certificate from his teacher at the Leake Central Junior High School in Leake County that read, “The 'zero' Award. It's impossible to be me. Don't try. You'll never find a solution.”

The distraught mom said she first realised something was wrong after she picked Bradley up from school and noticed that the award certificate was “balled up like he was ashamed.”

“I was feeling sad, and I didn’t really want to give it to her,” the student told the local news station.

When Patricia asked his dejected son, he replied that he was insulted in front of his whole class. His teacher is reportedly in their first year of instructing.

A fuming Patricia called the school office to find out more about the award and why it had been given out.

“I think it was so horrible for him to get this award. I’m going to do what I can do for this to never happen again. Not just to Bradley, but any child," Patricia said.

She then spoke to her Leake County Schools superintendent multiple times but is yet to hear any solutions.

"I don't know [why they did it]. That's why I called the superintendent's office to find out," Patricia said.

Bradley wants to return to the school, but the mother is considering enrolling him elsewhere following the incident.

The government must take strong note of it and find out who is making the fresh transfer list of migrant Kashmiri Pandits public at a time when targeted killings are taking place in the Valley, '' said BJP JK spokesman Altaf Thakur.&nbsp;

BJP said that the government was taking serious steps for the protection of Kashmiri Pandits, but some officials are playing spoilsport. He also urged officers not to make the transfer list of the Kashmiri Pandits public given its sensitivity. Local parties like National Conference and PDP have also reacted to the issue.&nbsp;

List of 177 Kashmiri Pandit teachers transferred by the government made public

Backlash and outcry erupted in Canada's Quebec after Fatemeh Anvari, a new Grade 3 teacher at Chelsea Elementary School, was fired for wearing a head covering known as a 'hijab,' which is worn by certain orthodox Muslim women as part of their religious practise.

The Muslim woman was asked to leave because Bill 21 in Quebec restricts the wearing of religious symbols and clothing while working for the government.

Quebec passed the bill into law in June 2019. Teachers in public schools are covered by the law.

Public officials in "positions of power," such as cops, attorneys, judges, bus drivers, doctors, social workers, and teachers, are prohibited from wearing religious symbols such as turbans, kippahs, and hijabs, according to the legislation.

However, the rule has a disproportionately negative impact on Muslim women and schools in the province, where 74.5 percent of teachers are women.

Dubost said, "Last Wednesday, a student effort to honour Veterans Day was disrupted by a very poor choice to include a profane flag." He also criticised Usilton and labelled her actions as "inappropriate." &nbsp;

However, one Taiwanese teacher went beyond the conventional norms of pedagogy—in so far as hosting online math lectures on a porn website.

Changshu, who operates under the handle changshumath666, has a verified account on Pornhub. He has shared over 200 videos that are absolutely free of sexual content.

According to reports, Changhsu has a Master’s degree in mathematics and has been teaching both online and in Taiwanese schools for 15 years.

Though he initially used to upload clips of his teachings on YouTube, he didn’t get that much response as he had hoped for. Last year, he thought of doing something different. He created an account on the porn website and started uploading videos.

Changshu’s account features a message, “Play hard, Study hard”. He can be seen in a grey hoodie and glasses in all his videos. He also solves mathematical problems on the green board and explains differential methods, in his native Mandarin.

Giving reasons about his about the unusual decision, Changhsu to Mel Magazine, “Since very few people teach math on adult video platforms, and since there are so many people who watch videos on them, I thought that if I uploaded my videos there, a lot of people would see them.”

The teacher had attempted to branch out to other porn sites in the hopes of gaining a wider audience, but he said that the websites were able to differentiate between adult and non-adult content.

“They know which kinds of videos are for adults and which aren’t, and they forbid them,” he said.

“I didn’t want to teach math on Pornhub. I wanted to let the world know that I’m a teacher from Taiwan who can teach calculus well,” he told the magazine.

The success of his venture can be gauged from that he has been able to earn 7,500,000 New Taiwan dollars (over $250,000 US) per year, which he uses to pay his bills and provide a decent salary to his employees, who help him teach on his various platforms.

The killing of Paty by an 18-year-old Chechen refugee, Abdouallakh Anzorov, who was shot dead by police, has intensified debate on security and immigration, radicalized politics in the run-up to the presidential election next year and prompted intense scrutiny of the French secular model known as laïcité.

In some ways, France is approaching a Samuel Paty election, dominated by the right because the left has found no answer to overwhelming concerns over security. An opinion poll published in April by the Journal du Dimanche indicated that 86% of French people view security as a major electoral issue, up from 60% a year earlier.

These are the fears that have caused an insurgent far-right TV pundit and polemicist, Éric Zemmour, to gain popularity with his anti-immigrant talk, even though he is not yet a declared candidate.

David Feutry, a history teacher at a high school in Dreux, about 50 miles west of Paris, said that since the killing of Paty, he “feels a constant mission of memory, to explain why we can criticize religion, why freedom of conscience is important and why laïcité matters.”

France is, in theory, a nondiscriminatory society where the state upholds strict religious neutrality. It is a nation that in its now-questioned universalist self-image dissolves differences of faith and ethnicity in a shared commitment to the rights and responsibilities of French citizenship.

That was the lay model Paty tried to set out to his class, paying with his life.

But some French Muslims and other immigrants see this supposedly colorblind blueprint for a society of liberty, fraternity and equality as no more than an exercise in hypocrisy that masks widespread discrimination.

Feutry acknowledged the problems in French society. Working in a town with a large Muslim population, where the far-right National Front, now known as the National Rally, won some of its first electoral victories, he said he felt a special need to explain to Muslim students why, for example, blasphemy is not a crime in France.

“We have to acknowledge there is a problem,” he said. “The republic abandoned some of these people. If they were dumped in separate urban areas, should we be surprised that they turned toward their traditions and Islam?”

Understanding had to be built, he suggested. He finds that talking about his grandfather’s role on the French side in the Algerian War, and the role of his Muslim students’ forebears in the National Liberation Front, can be helpful by bringing out suppressed, divisive history.

“Paty was not a hero; he was a victim,” Feutry said. “My students need to understand how dangerous social media and rumor can be.”

The investigation into the killing has revealed that Chnina, through videos and Facebook, spread his daughter’s false account of what Paty had done. It was understandably false because she was not there and made up her version. This did not prevent an Islamist radical, Abdelhakim Sefrioui, from making a YouTube video based on Chnina’s work that named Paty’s school. The online storm grew — and Anzorov, the young Chechen, alerted to it, decided to buy a knife.

Because several minors are involved and because so much of the case involves online invective intensified by rumor, the investigation has proved particularly complex.

According to reports, the teachers clicked photos of the examination paper at 9:15 am and passed it on to the coaching centre owner who then shared it with the students.

It is learned that the paper was leaked in the handwritten form further probe and investigation continue.&nbsp;

More than 60 people have been questioned till now, out of which 10 are tutors of coaching centres. Also, more than 50 cell phones of students and tutors have been seized.

The Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) today said it will <a href="http://cmsuat.wionews.com/preview/article/128041">not conduct </a><a href="http://cmsuat.wionews.com/preview/article/128041">re-examination</a><a href="http://cmsuat.wionews.com/preview/article/128041"> </a>of class X Maths paper. The CBSE class 12 economics paper would be held on April 25, the HRD ministry had declared last week.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court, on Monday, heard a <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/cbse-papers-leak-delhi-high-court-hears-pil-for-court-monitored-probe-127803">Public Interest Litigation </a>for a court-monitored probe into the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) paper leak case.

The high court issued notice to the CBSE, Delhi Police and the HRD ministry on a PIL which stated that the class 10 Maths paper be preferably held earlier and also seeking a court-monitored probe into the paper leak.

The next date of hearing is March 16.

The police said that the child was being sexually abused by her dance teacher when she came to her parents with the complaint on Thursday. Also, one of the agitating parents alleged that the school authorities tried to downplay the matter when they were informed about it.

In a fatal incident, a man has allegedly thrashed his paralytic mother which led to her death in Rajasthan`s Alwar district.

The victim was 82 years old. The incident was recorded on camera by the nephew of the accused, a teacher by profession.

The local police said that the incident took place on January 18.

A case has been registered in this connection.

The accused is absconding after the incident.

Further investigation into the case is underway.&nbsp;
