The hotel was among the two luxury hotels that were attacked along with a train station, a Jewish cultural centre, a hospital, and other targets in Mumbai.

The hotel remained under a 60-hour siege, and 33 out of the 166 people were killed. Among the casualties, 11 were hotel employees.

As the rescue operation continued, Tata was seen at the Colaba end of the hotel for the entire day, sometimes alone and sometimes surrounded by aides and staff.

After the attack, he ensured that the hotel's iconic dome was restored and the damaged areas were opened within 21 months.

He also pledged to take care of the families of employees who were killed or injured in the tragic incident and paid the salaries to the kin of those killed, equalling the amount they would have earned for the rest of their lives, as per the BBC report.&nbsp;

As reported by the&nbsp;Deccan Herald, Ratan Tata had gone to the homes of victims and ensured their well-being.

In a few months, The Taj Public Service Welfare Trust (TPSWT) was also formed by the Tata Group to provide humanitarian support during disasters.

Recalling the event later, Tata said, "About 37 or 40 in our hotel were shot and killed for no reason. And then it became an issue that you stand by it and let this happen or go into the midst of what was like a war zone and stand with your employees and go to the homes of people who were killed."

He said that he had two choices, either to let things happen or go in the middle of what looked like a war zone.

"I chose to do the latter to go every day to the hospital to meet the people who were injured. And there again, it gives a lasting impression on you in terms of what happened, what could have been done to avoid it and how could you deal with this and what is the best form of support you can give to your people? Those instances stand out as being challenging moments in one’s career," he added.

"Security tightened outside Taj Hotels and nearby areas after a threat call was received yesterday from Karachi, Pakistan to blow up the hotels with bombs," said the Mumbai Police.

Security outside Taj hotel in south Mumbai has been beefed up after a bomb threat call from Karachi, news agency ANI said quoting Mumbai Police. "Security tightened outside Taj Hotels and nearby areas after a threat call was received yesterday from Karachi, Pakistan to blow up the hotels with bombs," said the Mumbai Police. The police said the call from Karachi came in the late hours on Monday. Taj Hotel was one of the locations targeted during the 26/11 attacks in 2008. Mumbai had come to a standstill on November 26, 2008, when 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who entered the city via sea route from Pakistan carried out a series of coordinated shootings and bombings that injured over 300 and claimed the lives of 166 people in India`s financial capital. The attacks took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station, Cama Hospital, Nariman House business and residential complex, Leopold Cafe, Taj Hotel and Tower, and the Oberoi-Trident Hotel.

Security beefed up at Taj Hotels in Mumbai after a bomb threat call from Pakistan

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today met top leadership of India Inc for a power breakfast, the first of his numerous assignments for the day as he wraps up his four-day India visit.

Netanyahu interacted with business leaders at the iconic Taj hotel overlooking the Arabia Sea. This will be followed by his address to the India-Israel Business Summit, also at the same venue.

Business leaders who were present at the breakfast included Ajay Piramal, Rahul Bajaj, Adi Godrej, Harsh Goenka, Anand Mahindra, Dilip Shanghvi, Ashok Hinduja, Atul Punj and Chanda Kochhar.

In the first visit by an Israeli Prime Minister to the financial capital of India, Netanyahu will lay a wreath at the memorial for the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks.

Netanyahu will then proceed to the nearby Nariman House, where he will meet 11-year-old Moshe Holtzberg. Moshe&#39;s father Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and mother Rivka were killed at the Nariman House during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The Jewish couple ran a cultural and outreach centre for the Chabad-Lubavitch movement at the Nariman House in south Mumbai&#39;s Colaba area.

Netanyahu will later meet around 25 to 30 members of the Jewish community at the Taj hotel.

There are about 5,000 members of the Jewish community living in India, but most of them call Mumbai their home. The city earlier had a sizable Jewish population, but around 33,000 Jews migrated when Israel was created.

Mumbai has three distinct Jewish communities -- Bene Israel Jews, Baghdadi Jews and the Malabar Jews. For them, the visit by the Israeli prime minister is about reconnecting with old friends and strengthening old bonds.

Netanyahu will cap his hectic schedule by attending the &#39;Shalom Bollywood&#39; event, in which he will invite leading actors, directors, and producers in the Indian cinema industry to come to Israel to shoot movies and collaborate with the Israeli film and television industry.

Netanyahu is accompanied by a 130-member business delegation representing 102 companies, with a focus on the agriculture, defence and cybersecurity sectors.

Till now, the visit has seen agreements and comments on innovation, strengthening the start-up innovation system, information technology, defence, electric vehicles and agriculture sectors.

The bilateral trade between the countries increased to USD 5 billion in 2016-17 from USD 4.91 billion in the previous fiscal.

In the first leg of the visit in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited Israeli companies to invest in the country, saying India presents vast opportunities.

India has received total FDI of USD 130 million from Israel during April 2000 to September 2017 period.
