The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has initiated an enquiry into the leak of an anonymous letter dated August 6, which alleged a toxic work culture at the regulatory body according to a report by Moneycontrol.<o:p></o:p>

The decision to investigate the matter came after it was revealed that the SEBI employee associations did not send the letter to the government and, in fact, condemned the external sharing of the letter and its subsequent leak to the media, as it was an "internal issue.”<o:p></o:p>

Further, in a statement issued on September 4, SEBI expressed its belief that "junior officers have been receiving messages from external elements outside their group, effectively instigating them to go to media, go to the Ministry, go to Board, perhaps to serve their own purpose."<o:p></o:p>

The regulator clarified that the letter of August 6, 2024, was not sent by the SEBI employee associations to the government or the media. Instead, it was an anonymous email, and the officers and associations have themselves condemned it and communicated the same to the Human Resources Department (HRD) through emails.<o:p></o:p>
