The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is open to the idea of reviewing sponsorship police for the next cycle but has no plans to end the current contract with <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">IPL</a> title sponsor Vivo. As per board treasurer Arun Dhumal, the money coming in from the Chinese company is helping India’s cause.&nbsp;

Following the border clash between India and China at Galwan&nbsp;Valley earlier this week, sentiments are running high with anti-China calls all around the country. This is the first clash at the India-China border in more than four decades that has left at least 20 Indian soldiers dead. Since then, calls to boycott Chinese products have been echoing in India.&nbsp;

However, Dhumal is of the view that Chinese companies sponsoring an Indian event like the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">IPL</a> only serve the country’s purpose. The BCCI currently gets Rs 440 crore annually from Vivo with the five-year deal ending in the year 2020.&nbsp;

<h2>Chinese sponsorship helping India: Arun Dhumal</h2>

"When you talk emotionally, you tend to leave the rationale behind. We have to understand the difference between supporting a Chinese company for a Chinese cause or taking help from Chinese company to support India's cause," Dhumal told PTI.

"When we are allowing Chinese companies to sell their products in India, whatever money they are taking from Indian consumer, they are paying part of it to the BCCI (as brand promotion) and the board is paying 42 per cent tax on that money to the Indian government. So, that is supporting India's cause and not China's," he argued.

Oppo was sponsoring the Indian cricket team until September 2019 when Bengaluru-based Byju’s start-up replaced the Chinese smartphone brand.

Dhumal further said that he is all in for reducing dependence on Chinese products but countered that if Chinese companies are allowed to do business in India, there is no lost cause in them sponsoring Indian brand like the IPL.&nbsp;

"If they are not supporting the IPL, they are likely to take that money back to China. If that money is retained here, we should be happy about it. We are supporting our government with that money (by paying taxes on it)."

"If I am giving a contract to a Chinese company to build a cricket stadium, then I am helping the Chinese economy. GCA built the world's largest cricket stadium at Motera and that contract was given to an Indian company (L&amp;T)," he said.

"Cricketing infrastructure worth thousands of crores were created across country and none of the contracts was awarded to a Chinese company."

Dhumal went on to say the BCCI is spoilt for choice when it comes to attracting sponsors, whether Indian or Chinese or from any other nation. Dhumal explained that the BCCI is not giving money to the Chinese but is attracting on the contrary.

"If that Chinese money is coming to support Indian cricket, we should be okay with it. I am all for banning Chinese products as an individual, we are there to support our government but by getting sponsorship from Chinese company, we are helping India's cause."

"We can get sponsorship money from non-Chinese companies also including Indian firms. We can support our players any way but the idea is when they are allowed to sell their products here, it is better that part of money comes back to the Indian economy."

"The BCCI is not giving money to the Chinese, it is attracting on the contrary. We should make decision based on rationale rather than emotion," he added.

The future of Chennai Super League (CSL) has gone for a toss after the recent outbreak of coronavirus in Beijing, that has “complicated” the plans to start the postponed league of China. A medical expert advising the Chinese soccer association has said that with more than 180 infections recorded in just over a week, the future of CSL is under discussion.&nbsp;

The CSL was scheduled to start in February but has been postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19. The recent outbreak could cause further delays. Zhang Wenhong, an infectious disease specialist told state television that a postponement of CSL could happen.

“The schedule is still under discussion because the pandemic just re-surged in Beijing,” Zhang said.

Zhang further said that China unlike European countries where football leagues have restarted is keeping a cautious approach and want to keep cases at near zero.

“European countries have made the decision to restart, because they believe ... if they can keep coronavirus cases under control and the medical system is working well, it will be okay to restart the games,” he said.

India’s premier fast bowler Mohammed Shami has claimed that Team India may have the best pace attack in the history of Test cricket brushing aside the fearsome West Indies pacers of the 1970s and 80s.&nbsp;

Shami along with Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav have taken giant leaps in making the Indian attack feared in world cricket.&nbsp;

"You and everyone else in the world will agree to this -- that no team has ever had five fast bowlers together as a package," Shami said in an online chat for ESPNcricinfo.

"Not just now, in the history of cricket, this might be the best fast-bowling unit in the world," he added.
When asked about whether the Indian pace attack is better than the Windies’ battery of 70s and 80s, Shami said that fast bowlers were waiting to take over the scene from the spinners.&nbsp;

"We have a bowler on the bench who can work up speeds of 145-48 kph (over 90mph)," said Shami, who has 180 wickets from 49 Tests.

The 29-year-old, who has rejuvenated himself to become one of the finest across formats, said that it is Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is central to things but when it comes to fast bowling, Kohli leaves it for the pacers to decide.

"We surround Virat Kohli and ask him to make the decision," Shami said of the support for the Indian captain.

"But he normally says, 'Don't get me involved in all this; you decide among yourselves, I don't have an issue'.
"We support each other whether we're getting wickets or not," he said.

Shami battled weight issues, injuries and legal quarrels before making a comeback into the Indian team. He scalped 14 wickets at the ICC World Cup 2019 including a match-winning memorable hat-trick. Shami also took 13 wickets during South Africa Test series in 2019.

Nick Compton roared into the international scene with his strong technique and scored back-to-back Test centuries for England in 2013 away Test series against New Zealand, in Dunedin and Wellington. However, he couldn’t cement his spot in the England Test side and managed to play 16 Tests for his country. Compton has now revealed that he battled depression over the last five-six years after being left out of the England team.

Compton, while opening up about the illness, said that depression is something that creeps up on you and is not easily understood by you and others while adding that is why it took some time to come to terms and make a transition to a new life.&nbsp;

"There always comes a point in one’s career when things can’t be more difficult. The race for the governor of Tokyo has picked up the pace with the Olympics coming into the debate. The cost to postpone the Games is in billions and the debate garnered public attention after Taro Yamamoto, a popular actor turned politician, after the opening of the election campaign, said that the Tokyo Olympics should be cancelled as there is still major uncertainty over the vaccine while suggesting the funds saved from the postponement should be redirected to help people struggling from economic disaster.&nbsp;

Incumbent Yuriko Koike is a strong favourite to be reelected and has a strong stance in support of the Games. However, Yamamoto is of the view that the Games should be cancelled as they don’t have a vaccine yet.&nbsp;

“The Olympics should be canceled," Yamamoto told Koike. “There is no guarantee to hold the games safely in Tokyo, and we don’t have a vaccine yet" for COVID-19.

Yamamoto has alarmed the organisers about brining 11,000 Olympic athletes from around 200 nations and territories, 4,400 Paralympians and thousands more staff, technical officials, broadcasters and media personnel. Fans could bring in more headache for the organisers. Up to 80,000 volunteers were expected to join in before the pandemic hit.&nbsp;

"Tokyo will turn into a Petri dish by having so many people coming from around the world,” Yamamoto said. “We should notify the International Olympic Committee that Tokyo cannot hold the event safely.”

UEFA has opted to temporarily soften its financial fair play (FFP) rules to help clubs impacted by the economic fall-out of the coronavirus crisis, European football's governing body&nbsp;announced on Thursday.

FFP rules mean that, over a three-year period, clubs competing in European competition are not permitted to lose more than 30 million euros ($33.7m).

However, given the damage done to the footballing economy by the interruption to the sport caused by the pandemic, UEFA has agreed to a loosening of the rules which, it says, "aim at addressing the actual problem which is revenue shortfall due to COVID-19 and not financial mismanagement".

It means that clubs will be given longer than usual to show they have met payments owed on transfers and salaries, while "the assessment of financial year 2020 is postponed for one season, and will be assessed together with the financial year 2021".

These measures do not impact on decisions already taken before the crisis, so for example French club Marseille are still set to be punished after they were referred in March to the adjudicatory chamber of UEFA's&nbsp;Club Financial Control Body for not complying with an agreement to balance their books.

Manchester City have been banned from Europe for two years and handed a 30 million-euro fine for serious breaches of FFP regulations between 2012 and 2016.

The English club have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, which will announce its judgement on the case in July.

The FFP rules were brought in to combat growing debt in European football.

Assessments began in 2011 when European clubs reported overall losses of 1.7 billion euros. In contrast, according to UEFA's most recent annual "benchmarking" report, the 700 top-tier clubs across the continent made a combined profit of 140 million euros in 2018.

<h2>- 'Harmonised' transfer window -</h2>

Meanwhile, UEFA has said it wants a harmonised European transfer window this summer closing on October 5, ahead of next season's Champions League and Europa League group stages.

Following its latest executive committee meeting held via videoconference, UEFA said clubs would have until October 6 to register players for the group stage of next season's European club competitions.

On Wednesday it was announced that the 2020-21 Champions League would start on October 20, with the Europa League group stage starting two days later.

The summer transfer window in Europe usually closes at the start of September, although individual countries do not all follow the same dates.

Football is still adapting after the current season was interrupted in mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

FIFA has already permitted countries to open their transfer windows up to four weeks before the delayed season has been completed, although any new signings would not be eligible until next season.

Several countries are only just resuming competitions, with the seasons in the English Premier League and Spain's La Liga not set to finish until late July. Italy's Serie A will not now finish until early August.

On Wednesday UEFA announced that this season's Champions League would be completed with a "final eight" straight knock-out format in Lisbon from August 12 to 23.

Similar formats have been adopted for the latter stages of the Europa League, in Germany, and the women's Champions League, in Spain.

UEFA relaxes financial fair play rules amid coronavirus crisis

Chelsea-bound Timo Werner opted not to play for RB Leipzig in the Champions League quarter-finals this August, the Bundesliga club revealed Thursday, even though he is ineligible to play in Europe for his new club this season.

Earlier in the day, Chelsea confirmed that the 24-year-old Germany international had signed a five-year deal from July 1, which rules him out of playing for former club Leipzig in Europe this August.

Werner, who has scored 32 goals this season, will remain with the German club for their last two league games before the Bundesliga season ends on June 27.

RB Leipzig, who have never previously made the knock-out stages in Europe, are through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which would have also been Werner's first appearance at that level.

The quarter-finals, which have yet to be drawn, are due to be held in Lisbon with the final on August 23 in the Portuguese capital.

According to Leipzig, Werner, who scored four goals in eight Champions League games this season, opted not to play for them again in Europe.

"The decision came from Werner's side. We had to accept it as it is," revealed Leipzig's sports director Markus Kroesche.

"Therefore, it was no longer a big issue between the clubs."

His new club Chelsea still need to play their last 16, second leg, against Bayern Munich having been hammered 3-0 at home in the first leg.

However Werner is ineligible, as he was not registered for Chelsea when the second-leg should have taken place in March before games were postponed due to the coronavirus.

Werner's transfer fee of around 60 million euros (£53 million, $67 million) makes him the most expensive German signing from the Bundesliga.

Kroesche explained that Werner turned down the Champions League's quarter-finals in order to settle into his new club.

"He wants to prepare for the Premier League season with Chelsea," explained Kroesche.

"He wants to take his time to come into a new environment."

Australian head coach Justin Langer said there is a “good chance” the Aussies will visit England later this year for a limited-overs series against Eoin Morgan and Co. With Langer’s plan to touch optimum fitness and form by early September, the home ODI series against Zimbabwe is in major doubt.&nbsp;

Australia were scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in England from July 3 to 16 but the rubber was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Former Cricket Australia CEO, who resigned earlier this week, had talked about the idea of touring in September if health protocols and bio-security concerns could be addressed.

International cricket will be back to life next month when England face the West Indies for a three-match Test series with the games to be played in bio-secure venues, without crowds.

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner has agreed personal terms with Chelsea with the 24-year-old striker remaining at the German club for the rest of the Bundesliga season. Werner will join the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a> club in July, subject to passing a medical test after the Blues agreed a reported £47.5 million fee for the German forward on £200,000-per-week in wages.

Werner’s inclusion further strengthens the Chelsea squad especially with the Blues signing Hakim Ziyech from Ajax earlier. The German along with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, could turn into a potent attacking line. Renowned for his pace, movement, link-up and deadly finishing, Werner has been enjoying a phenomenal season having scored 32 goals and 13 assists in 43 appearances in all competition.&nbsp;

Werner, who turned 24 in March, has been one of the highly-rated young but experienced forwards in Europe. Werner became the youngest man to play 200 matches in Bundesliga after breaking similar records for 50, 100 and 150 appearances.

The German international netted 21 goals in his first two seasons before scoring 19 in the last campaign with 32 goals this season, thus far, marking a stamp on his credentials.

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner has agreed personal terms with Chelsea with the 24-year-old striker remaining at the German club for the rest of the Bundesliga season. Werner will join the Premier League club in July, subject to passing a medical test after the Blues agreed a reported £47.5 million fee for the German forward on £200,000-per-week in wages. Werner’s inclusion further strengthens the Chelsea squad especially with the Blues signing Hakim Ziyech from Ajax earlier. The German along with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, could turn into a potent attacking line. Renowned for his pace, movement, link-up and deadly finishing, Werner has been enjoying a phenomenal season having scored 32 goals and 13 assists in 43 appearances in all competition. Looks like Donald Trump has had a change of hearts as president of the USA&nbsp;said he is “absolutely” in favour of giving Colin Kaepernick another chance in the NFL. The comments made by Trump is a complete contrast to his statement in 2017 when he said that players like Kaepernick, who kneel during the US anthem, are “sons of bi***s” and should be expelled from the league.&nbsp;

"If he deserves it, he should," Trump told a Washington, DC television station when asked if Kaepernick should get another shot.&nbsp;

"If he has the playing ability. He started off great, and then he didn't end up very great in terms of a player. He was terrific in his rookie year. I think he was very good in his second year. And then something happened. So his playing wasn't up to snuff.

Twitterati mercilessly trolls Cristiano Ronaldo after Napoli defeat; fans expect comeback

Napoli stunned Juventus 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw to claim the Coppa Italia on Wednesday and bring their fiery coach Gennaro Gattuso the first major trophy of his managerial career.

Paulo Dybala and Danilo missed Juve’s first two efforts in the shootout while Napoli converted all their attempts to win the trophy for the sixth time and end Juve’s hopes of securing the treble this season.

It was the first title to be settled in the Italian season which has just restarted after a three-month hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although it had been planned for the players to collect their own medals in a “self-service” ceremony, the Napoli players received theirs from the respective club presidents Aurelio De Laurentiis and Andrea Agnelli.

It was a remarkable achievement for 42-year-old Gattuso, who took over Napoli in December with the team in disarray after the players had rebelled against a week-long training camp imposed on them by De Laurentiis.

“Football has given me so much and that is why I have so much passion for it,” Gattuso said. “It’s something I can’t let go of, not even for a second.”

“Those of who have this job must have respect for it because we’re lucky. I want to see people who put passion into it, I want a sense of belonging and respect.”

Napoli could have won without penalties but were defied by an outstanding double save from Gianluigi Buffon in stoppage time.

The 42-year-old Juventus goalkeeper blocked Nikola Maksimovic’s powerful header and turned Eljif Elmas’ effort from the rebound onto the post from point-blank range.

Napoli had the best chances throughout the game while Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo saw little of the ball and had a frustrating evening.

Lorenzo Insigne hit the post with a 30-metre free kick in the first half and saw another effort stopped by Buffon, while Arkadiusz Milik could also have won it for Napoli but sent a shot over the bar.

Juventus, who have drawn both their games 0-0 since the restart, lead Serie A, in which they are chasing a ninth successive title. Both teams are still in the Champions League.

Coppa Italia: Napoli upset Juve to give Gattuso first trophy as coach

After three long months, Premier League finally resumed the 2019-20 season with Aston Villa and Sheffield United locking horns. While the match ended in a goalless draw, a massive error stole the limelight from the much-awaited resumption.&nbsp;

Fans, pundits and even the players were left baffled after a Sheffield United goal was not given despite the ball clearly crossing the line after Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland flapped at a deadly inswinging left-wing cross from Ollie Norwood before taking the ball over the goal-line.&nbsp;

Usually, whenever a ball crosses the goal-line, the match referee receives a signal on his watch. However, on Wednesday, referee Michael Oliver didn’t receive anything and allowed the game to continue. Even Video Assistant Referee (VAR) didn’t intervene as the onus was on the goal-line technology to resolve the issue. It was an unprecedented moment and the year 2020 couldn’t have surprised us more.&nbsp;

A report stated that the technology was working throughout the game and that Oliver’s watch indicated ‘goal’ during half-time when substitutes were warming up by shooting the ball into the net.

However, Sheffield boss Chris Wilder insisted it was clear the ball was over and said VAR should have come to the rescue.

After three long months, Premier League finally resumed the 2019-20 season with Aston Villa and Sheffield United locking horns. While the match ended in a goalless draw, a massive error stole the limelight from the much-awaited resumption. Fans, pundits and even the players were left baffled after a Sheffield United goal was not given despite the ball clearly crossing the line after Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland flapped at a deadly inswinging left-wing cross from Ollie Norwood before taking the ball over the goal-line. Usually, whenever a ball crosses the goal-line, the match referee receives a signal on his watch. However, on Wednesday, referee Michael Oliver didn’t receive anything and allowed the game to continue. Even Video Assistant Referee (VAR) didn’t intervene as the onus was on the goal-line technology to resolve the issue. It was an unprecedented moment and the year 2020 couldn’t have surprised us more. World number two Simona Halep is “highly unlikely” to play in the U.S. Open with organisers set to put strict health protocols in place for the Grand Slam due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a spokeswoman for the Romanian told Reuters.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) received the green light to hold their marquee tournament in New York as scheduled from Aug. 31-Sept. 13 without fans.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the USTA would take “extraordinary precautions” to protect players, including robust testing, additional cleaning, extra locker room space and dedicated accommodation.

“Everyone is still waiting on an official announcement of details from the U.S. Open and tours about the season,” the spokeswoman said in a statement to Reuters.

“But if the conditions are as set out on paper for U.S. Open, as Simo (Halep) has been consistent in saying, it’s highly unlikely she will play.”

Her coach Darren Cahill had told Reuters last week the protocols were “incredibly difficult” and would probably not work for the two-times Grand Slam winner.

The USTA and men’s and women’s tours are expected to provide details later on Wednesday.

“Of course the conditions of the U.S. Open can still change and it is my understanding that the players will have well into July to decide whether to enter or not,” the spokeswoman said, adding that it was a “fluid situation so nothing is set in stone”.

Men’s No. 1 Novak Djokovic and his women’s counterpart Ash Barty have also raised concerns about playing in the tournament under health protocols while Nick Kyrgios said the USTA was being “selfish” by opting to go ahead with it.

American world No.21 John Isner tweeted his support for the decision to go ahead with the tournament.

“Well done @usta for being so forward thinking in getting this done. Players and fans alike are thrilled with this development. Time to get back on the courts!”

Robert Lewandowski said he hopes Bayern Munich will be able to play in front of their own fans again soon after winning an eighth straight Bundesliga title on Tuesday behind closed doors.

Lewandowski's first-half goal sealed a 1-0 win at Werder Bremen which saw Bayern become the first team to secure a top league title on the pitch since the coronavirus lockdown.

"It was tough without our fans, without the energy they give us, but we are happy that we are German champions again," said Lewandowski after Bayern won their eighth straight match following the resumption of German football last month.

"It wasn't easy, but we showed our quality.

"I hope we can play in front of our fans in our stadium soon."

Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted it was a "curious, strange" feeling to see only a handful of Bayern officials and backroom staff in the Weserstadion to cheer the players.

Lewandowski admitted Bayern endured a nervous last few minutes as only a finger-tip save from goalkeeper Manuel Neuer protected the lead.

"When you are 1-0 up, you know you need to score again to be sure. Werder Bremen played well, but luckily for us, we managed to hold them out," said Lewandowski.

"The most important thing is that we can celebrate as German champions.

"That was typical of 'Manu' (Neuer), he loves saves like that and he did really well and we had to be really careful with their long balls."

Bayern face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup final on July 4 and are among the favourites to win the Champions League.

"We have our next game in three days, that is the priority, but after that, we will have enough time to prepare for the Champions League," said Lewandowski.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani on Wednesday said he doesn’t see the T20 World Cup happening in Australia later this year while adding the cricketing world can’t risk players’ safety in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;
Mani’s comments follow Cricket Australia Chairman Earl Eddings’s comments after the latter said that the showpiece event seems “unrealistic and very, very difficult” given the logistical and international travel concerns.&nbsp;

Livid with the International Cricket Council for continuing to put off a decision on the fate of this year's T20 World Cup, the BCCI has accused outgoing chairman Shashank Manohar of deliberately dragging his feet on the issue.

With Cricket Australia's chairman Earl Eddings once again citing his board's inability to host the global event from October 18-November 15, the BCCI feels that the ICC's "delaying tactic" could severely hurt IPL preparations.

"Why is the outgoing ICC chairman (Manohar) creating confusion? If the host cricket board doesn't want to conduct T20 World Cup, why will it take a month to announce the decision? Is he trying to hold BCCI to ransom?" a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The ICC, after a board meeting earlier this month, decided to wait another month and explore more contingency plans before taking a call on the event in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The official feels that a quick decision on postponement would also help member nations plan their bilateral engagements.

"It's just not about the BCCI or the IPL. If ICC announces the postponement during this month, even those member nations whose players are not a part of IPL can plan their bilateral series in that window. The delay in decision-making will hurt everybody," he fumed.

A quick decision by the ICC will ensure that BCCI's (IPL) operations team can start preparing the likely hosts which will certainly include Sri Lanka where there are three grounds -- Premadasa, Pallekele and Hambantota.

Sri Lanka is being seen as more cost effective compared to the UAE and as Sunil Gavaskar said that it's the ideal country to have a September IPL.

The BCCI vs Manohar feud is not new. The Nagpur-based lawyer's frosty relationship with another former BCCI president N Srinivasan is believed to be the root cause of the tensions.

"He has been a former BCCI president, who worked against our interest. BCCI's revenue share was reduced despite the country contributing to ICC's revenue," the official said.
Another veteran official, who has seen Manohar operate in BCCI for years, has a question for the ICC chairman.

"Why do you thrive in confusion? I want to ask Mr Manohar. The current situation is only increasing the confusion, creating a number of dilemmas," he said.

The other question that BCCI mandarins are asking is why the process of nomination for the next chairman has not been officially announced.

"There have been a couple of ICC Board meetings but things like e-mail leaks and investigation gained precedence over announcement of nomination process. If you ask me, I will never be sure till Manohar relinquishes the chairman's post and not seek a third term," the veteran official said.

An ICC chairman can have three terms of two years each.

In fact, an ICC board member fears that delay in nomination process could come in the way of making a unanimous choice.

"Colin Graves is still the front-runner and if Sourav Ganguly is not interested, he will also have BCCI's backing. In case of Ganguly, it will be interesting if he will throw his hat in the ring in case there is no unanimity," said the board member.

Ehsan Mani is considered to be a left-field choice who will certainly not have the BCCI's backing. The name of Debbie Hockley, president of New Zealand Cricket, is also doing the rounds.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal on Wednesday said that with Australia expressing its inability to host the T20 World Cup, there is nothing much left for the ICC to think about the showpiece tournament.

Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings, who is also a member of ICC Board, on Tuesday said that Australia’s chances of hosting the T20 World Cup in October-November is ‘unrealistic’ and that has left the BCCI scratching its head on why the ICC is delaying the announcement of a postponement.&nbsp;

Given the ICC T20 World Cup 2020, which is scheduled to be hosted by Australia in October-November, gets postponed, a window will pop up for the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/ipl">Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020</a> which currently stands indefinitely suspended.&nbsp;

"When the host nation is showing its inability to host the tournament, there is nothing much left for the ICC. I don't know why they are delaying. It's their call, whenever they want to go ahead with the announcement, they can. But sooner the better for world cricket," Arun Dhumal said.

Eddings had earlier said that hosting T20 World Cup would be ‘very, very difficult’ and they have put a forward a number of options to the ICC.&nbsp;

"I sit on the ICC and we're having meetings as we speak," Eddings said on Tuesday.

"It's a bit of a moving feast at the moment. I'd say it's unlikely, while it hasn't been formally called off this year or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world where most countries are still going through Covid-19 spiking, I think it's unrealistic or would be very, very difficult.

"We've put forward a number of different options to the ICC we're working through at the moment."

The ICC, earlier in June, delayed a final call on the World Cup to July as it wants a “right decision” about the tournament.

Meanwhile, Dhumal emphasizes that the BCCI is definitely looking at September-October window if the World Cup gets postponed.&nbsp;

"We will definitely look for that window in case they confirm they are not hosting. But it has come from the ICC also. These fillers have been coming and accordingly, we are working towards that window," Dhumal said.

The IPL 2020 could even be hosted in either of UAE or Sri Lanka with both the board expressing interest to host the cash-rich tournament.&nbsp;

BCCI's Arun Dhumal: Don't know why ICC is delaying call on T20 World Cup despite Australia expressing inability

Indian bowling attack is now regarded as one of the best in the world and a lot of credit behind the success goes to the bowling coach of the Indian team – Bharat Arun. From rejuvenating Mohammed Shami to bringing the best out of Ishant Sharma, from making Jasprit Bumrah into a world-class bowler across format to nurturing youngsters, Arun has turned the face of the Indian bowling attack.&nbsp;

Arun has been instrumental behind Indian bowling attack’s success in overseas and home conditions. The Men in Blue were never famous for its fast bowling but the scenario has completely changed now. Not only the Indian pacers have taken truckloads of wickets across conditions, but they have also terrorised world-class batsmen with their consistency to push the speedometer beyond the 140 km/h mark.&nbsp;

The Indian bowling unit has been meticulously managed by Arun and the Indian team management with proper workload bringing the best out of the bowlers.&nbsp;

“When we talk about workload management, we are looking at the number of overs a bowler has bowled. But then a bowler can over-exert himself in a game and that is not under your control. So we use the GPS tracker to monitor all his movements on the field,” Arun told Indian women team’s head coach WV Raman in episode three of Inside Out. &nbsp;

You need to find the right balance: Bharat Arun

“For example, a bowler runs around 20 km on the field. And the tracker gives us a lot of data and information about the bowler concerned. By analysing those data, you can manage the workload at training sessions. Basically, you need to find the right balance. And the Indian bowlers have managed to do that so far.

“This is the reason why we are successful as a bowling unit and the bowlers can bowl at 140 km/h regularly,” the Indian bowling coach added.&nbsp;

While Arun has successfully managed to carve out a phenomenal bowling unit, a tougher challenge awaits when international cricket resumes post the prolonged break due to COVID-19. With a new set of regulations coming into play, such as the much-talked-about saliva ban, fans are eagerly waiting to see how Bumrah and Co. cope up with the new norm.

But nonetheless, Arun’s attention to detail and his willingness to give a free hand to bowlers have helped Indian bowlers reach new heights, which has never been witnessed in Indian cricket history.

England’s premier ball manufacturer has some advice for bowlers worried about being unable to generate swing due to a ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball: “Carry a cotton towel.”

Polishing one side with sweat and saliva has been used by fast bowlers to alter the aerodynamics of the ball but the International Cricket Council banned the use of saliva this month to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Bowlers are still free to use sweat but some pacers are worried about not generating enough swing.

Dilip Jajodia, managing director of British Cricket Balls Ltd, which produces the Dukes balls used in test matches in England, says they need not worry.

“The ball has to be right in the first place. Whether you apply saliva or perspiration or whatever, these are small things that help,” Jajodia told Reuters by telephone.

“We have a proper ball with a hand-stitched seam. It’s designed to swing as long as you have the skill.

“And now that ICC has confirmed that you can use perspiration, I don’t see any problem.”

When a player vigorously rubs the Dukes ball against his clothes, it releases the wax in it to permeate through leather and shine the ball, said Jajodia.

His advice for English and West Indian bowlers in their upcoming series is to carry a cotton towel like Barbadian great Malcolm Marshall.

“The great Malcolm Marshall was always seen with a little cotton towel hanging from his waist.

“And you see (England captain) Joe Root in a polyester shirt — polishing and polishing the ball. He’s wasting his time, it does not work.

“You should polish it on a natural material like cotton. Just perspiration and cotton.

“Carry a cotton towel, and you’d be fine.”

Reigning world 100m champion Christian Coleman was provisionally suspended on Wednesday over a missed drugs test, putting him at risk of a two-year ban that would rule him out of next year's Tokyo Olympics.

The American sprinter is "suspended temporarily from participating in any competition or activity", said the Athletics Integrity Unit, World Athletics' anti-doping arm.

Coleman, who only narrowly avoided being banned last year after three violations of anti-doping "whereabouts" rules across 2018 and 2019, revealed details of his latest missed test on Twitter.

The world's fastest man, who clocked 9.76sec to win 100m gold at last year's World Championships in Doha, said he had unsuccessfully challenged an AIU finding that he missed a test on December 9, 2019.&nbsp;

"And now this might result in me being suspended from other filing failures that occurred well over a year ago at this point," Coleman said.

The 24-year-old is now barred from competition pending a hearing under World Athletics anti-doping rules, the AIU website said.

Coleman's impassioned statement on Twitter was accompanied by what appeared to be a copy of his formal notification from the AIU of a missed test.&nbsp;

Coleman, 24, escaped suspension on a technicality ahead of last September's World Championships after it emerged he had committed three whereabouts failures in a 12-month period.

Those offences were recorded on June 6, 2018, January 16, 2019 and April 26, 2019.&nbsp;

However, Coleman had successfully argued that the first missed case should have been backdated to the first day of the quarter -- April 1, 2018 -- meaning the three failures fell just outside the required 12-month period.

But news that Coleman missed another meeting with testers in December means that his offences in January and April of last year now come into play.

Under World Anti-Doping Agency rules, any combination of three whereabouts failures -- either missing a test or failing to file paperwork on time -- within a 12-month period is deemed a doping offence punishable by a two-year suspension.

Two-year suspensions can be reduced to one year if there are mitigating circumstances.

<h2>- 'Purposeful attempt' -</h2>

&nbsp;

"I think the attempt on December 9th was a purposeful attempt to get me to miss a test," Coleman said in a statement posted on his official Twitter account.

"Don't tell me I 'missed' a test if you sneak up on my door (parked outside the gate and walked through...there's no record of anyone coming to my place) without my knowledge," Coleman said.

Coleman said testers had visited when he was out shopping for Christmas presents nearby, verifiable by bank statements and receipts.

"I was more than ready and available for testing and if I had received a phone call I could've taken the drug test and carried on with my night," he said.

"I was only made aware of this attempted drug test the next day on December 10th, 2019 by the AIU when I got this failed attempt report out of nowhere."

The report from the doping control officer posted by Coleman said the tester had arrived at his apartment and had failed to get a response after "multiple, loud knocks were made every 10 minutes" for an hour.

A doorbell next to Coleman's door was pressed but no ring could be heard. No attempt to reach Coleman by phone was made, according to the document.

"I've been contacted by phone literally every other time I've been tested," Coleman said. "Literally. (I don't know) why this time was different. He even said he couldn't hear the doorbell so why wouldn't you call me?"&nbsp;

Coleman said he was tested two days later and added: "I've been tested multiple times since, even during quarantine.&nbsp;

"But of course, that doesn't matter, and the fact that I have never taken drugs doesn't matter either."

Reigning world 100m champion Christian Coleman was provisionally suspended on Wednesday over a missed drugs test, putting him at risk of a two-year ban that would rule him out of next year's Tokyo Olympics.

The much-awaited <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a>&nbsp;restart will witness Manchester City face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. The blockbuster clash will be played behind closed doors but it won’t matter to the football fanatics much as they will be seeing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a> coming back on track following a prolonged break due to COVID-19.

Both the managers - Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta (who himself has been a COVID-19 survivor) -&nbsp;thanked the NHS and frontline workers during the pre-match press conference. Both Man City and Arsenal, like other <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a> teams, have been working rigorously to get back to match fitness but are expected to be a bit rusty.&nbsp;

“You can play a game after three weeks on holiday but we spent two weeks on the sofa doing nothing much. That is why the players are not fully fit.&nbsp;

“But that is why we have to finish the season. We have to limit the economic damage to the clubs. The way we are right now, I think other clubs and teams [as well], we don't know. If you ask me how the team is, I don't know,” Guardiola said in the press conference.

<h2>Advantage, Man City?</h2>

Talking about the fixture, Man City have won six straight competitive matches against the Gunners while scoring three goals in five of those six games. Before the league was put on a hold, Man City had won four of their five Premier League home games including a draw.

Whereas Arsenal trail the Champions League spot by eight points but an unbeaten run in the last eight Premier League games will give them an upbeat chance to upset the rusty Blues. With a lot to play for in the season, both the teams would be wanting to get back to full fitness as soon as possible and could treat the match as a stepping stone for the rest of the season. Win, is an absolute necessity for both which makes the contest a promising affair.&nbsp;

Man City vs Arsenal Preview: A battle between the master and apprentice

Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings on Tuesday admitted that hosting T20 World Cup later in the year is “unrealistic” amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Australia from October 18 to November 15 with ICC slated to take a call on the showpiece event in July.

However, with international travel restrictions still in place, Eddings conceded that the T20 World Cup is looking increasingly unlikely.&nbsp;

"While it hasn't been formally called off this year, or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world, where most countries are still going through COVID spiking, I think it's unrealistic, or it's going to be very, very difficult," he told reporters.

"The ICC are having meetings as we speak, it's a bit of a movable feast at the moment," he said.

Whereas T20 World Cup chief executive Nick Hockley, who was also appointed as interim CEO of Cricket Australia, said he expects the ICC to take a final call on the tournament next months.&nbsp;

"We've got a fantastic local organising committee who are busy preparing for every eventuality and the decision that will come," Hockley said.

Australia have allowed crowds up to 10,000 into sports stadiums from next month but strict international border restriction have created an added headache for the organisers. Eddings also said that they have had lots of positive chats with India and the BCCI is very keen about the tour.

'I think it is unrealistic' - Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings on T20 World Cup 2020

Premier League football returns on Wednesday after a three-month coronavirus-enforced absence.

Nothing realistically will stop Liverpool from being crowned English champions for the first time in 30 years.

But there are a whole host of other issues to sort out, including relegation and next year's European places, with the drama set to take place in empty, echoing stadiums.

AFP Sport takes a look at what still needs to be resolved.

<h2>When will Liverpool be champions?</h2>

Liverpool were 25 points clear of Manchester City and within touching distance of becoming English champions for the first time since 1990 when the league was suspended in March.

But while COVID-19 may have delayed their title party, nobody seriously believes it is not going to happen.&nbsp;

Two more wins would make it mathematically impossible for City to catch Liverpool, but the Reds could triumph by winning their first game, at Merseyside neighbours Everton on Sunday, if City lose at home to Arsenal on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp's men can also break two of City's most cherished records -- they need 19 points from the remaining 27 to beat the Manchester club's&nbsp;total of 100 points from the 2017/18 season and they could also better City's record title-winning margin of 19 points from the same campaign.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson lifted the Champions League trophy in a packed stadium in Madrid last June but is preparing for a different experience with the Premier League silverware being presented behind closed doors this year.

"Of course it would feel different because if you win any trophy and receive it without any fans there, it would be pretty strange," he told the BBC.

<h2>Champions League battle</h2>

Intriguingly, the battle for top-four spots could be extended to include fifth place.

Liverpool are assured of their place in the Champions League and the other qualifying berths are currently occupied by Manchester City, Leicester and Chelsea.

But as things stand, City cannot compete in Europe's top club competition for the next two seasons after being banned for financial fair play breaches.

Pep Guardiola's side have appealed, however, and could still hold onto their Champions League place next season if the suspension is overturned.

If it is upheld, whoever finishes fifth will take their place in next season's Champions League.&nbsp;

Manchester United currently occupy that position, but Wolves and Sheffield United are both just two points behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.

Eighth-placed Tottenham and Arsenal, one spot lower, will also fancy their chances of finishing fifth with a late charge.

<h2>Battle to avoid the drop</h2>

Norwich, Aston Villa and Bournemouth occupy the bottom three places in the Premier League but all will harbour hopes they can escape the drop.

Norwich are rock-bottom and six points from safety but a win at home to Leicester in late February gave them hope.

Villa had lost four straight games before the shutdown so the break could end up helping Dean Smith's team, who have a game in hand over their rivals, while Eddie Howe will be desperate for Bournemouth to find some form after a run of seven defeats in 10 games.

Above the current bottom three, Watford are still in trouble despite their impressive initial revival under Nigel Pearson, while West Ham and Brighton are far from safe.

<h2>Fit to play</h2>

A clutch of top players will be raring to go after lengthy spells on the sidelines.

England striker Harry Kane is hungry for a return and Spurs team-mate Son Heung-min will also be able to feature after recovering from a broken arm.

Manchester United pair Paul Pogba, with just eight appearances this season, and Marcus Rashford, out of action since January with a back injury, should also feature.
