The regulation effectively means that social media companies will not be able to conduct direct transactions on the platform albeit only promote the products on the platforms.&nbsp;The social commerce platforms have a week to comply with the new rule, according to Hasan.

Additionally, the new regulation mandates that e-commerce platforms in the country&nbsp;set a minimum price of $100 for certain items that are directly purchased from abroad.&nbsp;

According to a CNBC report,&nbsp;TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew in an interview said the company was&nbsp;“going to invest billions of dollars in Indonesia and Southeast Asia over the next few years".&nbsp;

After the announcement by the government, TikTok released a statement saying the company hoped that the new regulations would keep in mind the affiliate creators, connected with the app.&nbsp;

“Social commerce was born to solve a real world problem for local traditional small sellers, by matching them with local creators who can help drive traffic to their online shops,” a TikTok spokesperson said.&nbsp;

“While we respect local laws and regulations, we hope that the regulations take into account its impact on the livelihoods of more than 6 million sellers and close to 7 million affiliate creators who use TikTok Shop,” they added.

Notably,&nbsp;Indonesia was one of the first few markers where TikTok launched TikTok shop to leverage its large user base.&nbsp;

“With an almost perfect score of 9.55 out of 10, the UAE takes the top spot as the social media capital of the world. People in the UAE have an average of 8.2 social media platforms, the third highest in the world, joint with the Philippines. UAE also has the highest percentage of people with Facebook at over 100 per cent,” said Proxyrack.&nbsp;

"UAE’s estimated percentage is over 100 per cent as there are more Facebook users registered in the UAE than the population," it added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, India stood on the 19th spot with only 29 per cent of the population using Facebook but spending nearly nine hours on the internet every day.&nbsp;

Researchers analysed 2.7 million tweets and Facebook posts from various US media houses and politicians over five years.&nbsp;They also found that negative posts were not only more likely to go viral, but also received twice as many comments as&nbsp;positive posts.

On Facebook, posts maligning someone received a higher number of angry or laughing reactions as opposed to positive posts that received hearts or thumbs ups.

The study’s co-author Steve Rathje told BBC that if the post originated from a Republican and referred to Joe Biden, it was more likely to go viral than posts by Republicans about other politicians. Rathje also claimed that a screenshot of the US president with the caption “latest brain freeze” posted first by Breitbart News had received a lot of hits quickly.

On the other end of this political spectrum, a tweet by Bernie Sanders about Donald Trump also received a lot of hits wherein Sanders referred to “3,000” lies by Donald Trump.&nbsp;

Algorithms on social media platforms are meant to promote "viral content" and amplify voices that are receiving a lot of attention on platforms. This practice has been criticised for its ability to make hateful and divisive content viral.

An average adult&nbsp;will spend 34 years of their life staring at their digital devices according to a recent study conducted in United Kingdom.

The research, a&nbsp;poll of 2,000 British adults whose&nbsp;age varied between&nbsp;18 to 81 years old.The study was commissioned&nbsp;by&nbsp;Vision Direct and&nbsp;conducted by&nbsp;OnePoll.

Scientists&nbsp;found that over half of the respondents admitted their screen time&nbsp;strained their eyes.

Despite the strain, four out of 10 people say they rarely stop to rest their vision. Another 12 percent of the survey said they never take a break.

''It’s important to be aware of what excess screen time can do in terms of your eye health and keep on top of overdoing it when it comes to screens,'' said&nbsp;Benjamin Dumaine, of Vision Direct.

''We’d suggest making the most of the government’s advice to exercise, to help give that essential screen break.''

The poll adds that adults are glued to their devices from&nbsp;the minute they wake up. The average adult starts looking at a screen within 20 minutes of getting out of bed. Almost a third of the respondents switch on a device within five minutes.

Researchers found out that in future, individuals&nbsp;will be glued to their screens for over 13 hours a day.

That adds up to 4,866 hours each year and a stunning 301,733 hours throughout those 62 adult years.

These figures have seen a big spike during the&nbsp;coronavirus pandemic, with the poll finding that video calls have doubled during the quarantine.

''We’re lucky to have devices that connect us with the outside world,''&nbsp;Dumaine said.

&nbsp;''A similar pandemic taking place 30 or 40 years ago would have seen people coping with the lack of contact in very different ways.''

Vision Direct recommended&nbsp;that people should use the ''20-20-20 Rule''&nbsp;when looking at their screens.

Earlier March 6, The Chairman of&nbsp;Parliamentary Committee&nbsp;on&nbsp;Information Technology,&nbsp;Anurag Thakur&nbsp;had said that social media giants&nbsp;Facebook,&nbsp;Whatsapp&nbsp;and Instagram have accepted that there is a need for corrective measures to keep a check on posts that lead to communal tensions, incite violence or pose threat to national security.&nbsp;
