An Australian cultured meat company named Vow has produced a giant meatball from DNA of an extinct woolly mammoth, bringing back the taste of the extinct species that roamed the Earth during the Ice Age.

Meat can be produced in different ways other than the conventional method of animal slaughtering. This is possible thanks to the science of cultivation. Now it has been proven that even the meat from extinct animals can be obtained.

The animal cells are cultured to get meat, which is reportedly tastier than the conventional meat.&nbsp;The company Vow has already made a significant progress by figuring out that there is a potential of getting meat from 50 species, which includes alpaca, buffalo, crocodile, kangaroo, peacocks&nbsp; and different types of fish.

For the meat, Vow joined hands with Professor Ernst Wolvetang of the Australian Institute for Bioengineering at the University of Queensland. The first step of the process was to create the mammoth muscle protein.

After that, to add flavour to the meat, the team at Vow took the DNA sequence for mammoth myoglobin. This is a key muscle protein which makes the meat tasty before people can devour it. Elephant DNA is also used and this&nbsp;sequence was placed in myoblast stem cells from a sheep.

These cells then got replicated to grow to 20 billion cells. These are then used to grow the mammoth meat. Vow

CEO George Peppou said,&nbsp;“We have a behaviour change problem when it comes to meat consumption. The goal is to transition a few billion meat eaters away from eating [conventional] animal protein to eating things that can be produced in electrified systems.

“And we believe the best way to do that is to invent meat. We look for cells that are easy to grow, really tasty and nutritious, and then mix and match those cells to create really tasty meat.”

Tim Noakesmith, who co-founded Vow, said, “We chose the woolly mammoth because it’s a symbol of diversity loss and a symbol of climate change.”

The creature is thought to have been driven to extinction by hunting by humans and the warming of the world after the last Ice Age.

Officials announced on Friday (June 10) that a thousand pigs will be slaughtered after two instances of swine fever were discovered on a farm in Rome’s Lazio region, raising fears of a blow to the country’s pork industry. Angelo Ferrari, the crisis manager in a conversation with AGI news agency said, “We have to slaughter all the pigs in the contaminated area very quickly.” He further added that a thousand pigs will have to be slaughtered as per what the local office projected to stop the spread.

A new investigation has revealed that thousands of former racehorses which were in training in Ireland are being killed every year.

The report will air on BBC1's Panorama on Monday evening, claiming that "thousands" of ex-racers - "most, but not all" are being butchered every year.

The programme is called "The Dark Side of Horse Racing" and is based on footage provided by Animal Aid, an animal rights group, The Guardian reported. Animal Aid advocates ending slaughter of animals and wants a complete ban on horse racing.

Multiple media reports claim that cameras were planed by Animal Aid in a slaughterhouse run by F Drury &amp; Sons, which captured "dozens" of ex-racehorses, most of which came from Ireland. 
 
Three of these horses reportedly belong to trainer Gordon Elliott, who was recently banned from racing for sitting on a dead horse. Elliott told the programme that he wasn't involved in the slaughtering business. 
 
He did name two horses - High Expectations and Kiss Me Kayf, who were shipped to a horse dealer to be sent to an appropriate home. In the worst-case scenario, he urged them to euthanise the horses humanely.

According to the report, serious breaches of regulations took place while dealing with horses. The cameras recorded 91 occasions when a worker shot horses from a distance instead of from a close location.

The investigation also revealed that many of the horses were brought from Ireland via road and sea, many of which had sustained serious injuries that end careers. In addition, the report mentions 26 instances of the horses being killed within sight of other horses, a clear violation of slaughtering policies.

Since the start of 2019, at least 4,000 racehorses have been slaughtered in such conditions, according to the report.

"We do not celebrate Myanmar Thingyan this year since over 700 of our innocent brave souls have been killed," said one Twitter user named Shwe Ei.&nbsp;

Women wearing fine clothes for the most important holiday of the year protested in several towns holding traditional pots containing seven flowers and sprigs that are displayed at this time, media pictures showed.&nbsp;

Many people painted the protesters' three-finger salute on their Thingyan pots.&nbsp;

"People's power, our power," women marching on a street in the main city of Yangon chanted as passersby clapped, video posted by the Myanmar Now media group showed.&nbsp;

In some places, people set out dozens of Thingyan pots daubed with messages such as 'Save Myanmar' in silent shows of opposition to the military.&nbsp;

There were no immediate reports of violence at any of the protests but information has become scarce because of the junta's curbs on broadband internet and mobile data services.&nbsp;
