<p>However, when it comes to clear air turbulence, it is one of the most dangerous types.</p>

<p>Usually, any type of turbulence is caused due to the meeting of air at different temperatures, pressures or velocities.</p>

<p>During CAT, a turbulent movement of air masses takes place in the absence of any visual clues, such as clouds, and is caused when bodies of air moving at widely different speeds meet each other.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The atmospheric region most susceptible to CAT is the high troposphere at altitudes of around 7,000–12,000 metres (23,000–39,000 ft) as it meets the tropopause.</p>

<p>Here, CAT is most frequently encountered in the regions of jet streams. At lower altitudes, it may also occur near mountain ranges.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Is climate change causing more turbulence?</strong></h2>

<p>As per one study from the University of Reading, CATs have increased 55 per cent since 1976 over the North Atlantic and the main culprit for this is climate change.</p>

<p>Scientists at Reading University said their research showed that higher temperatures as a result of the climate crisis were leading to significant increases in turbulence across transatlantic flights.</p>

<p>The jet stream is sandwiched between the warm troposphere and the cool stratosphere, the increasing temperature differential means increasing wind shear.</p>

<p>While climate change is decreasing wind shear in the troposphere as temperature differentials decrease, the opposite is true for the lower stratosphere, which is where aeroplanes fly to avoid atmospheric drag.</p>

<p>An increase in carbon dioxide cools the stratosphere, and it does it in such a way that it increases vertical shear and cruising altitude tends to be in the stratosphere.</p>

<p>Thankfully, only 0.1 per cent of the atmosphere contains this extreme level of turbulence, but even the more frequently encountered light and moderate turbulence saw significant increases up to 17 per cent and 34 per cent respectively.</p>

<p>"Investigations revealed that he had forged the ID&nbsp;using some online application and purchased the uniform accessories from Dwarka, New Delhi," added the DCP.</p>

<p>With optimism for the future, the SIA Group has set its sights on returning to pre-Covid passenger capacity levels within the fiscal years 2024-2025. To further strengthen its financial position and support its balance sheet during the pandemic-related air travel disruption, the airline issued zero-coupon mandatory convertible bonds (MCBs) in June 2021. Singapore Airlines is now in the process of redeeming 50 per cent of these MCBs, aiming to pay eligible bondholders on December 26 on a pro-rata basis. This redemption will amount to approximately 110.408 per cent of the MCBs' principal amount or around S$1.71 billion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the airline, Scoot flight TR16 to Perth departed Singapore at 4:11 pm (local time) and landed back in the city-state nearly two hours after the take-off at around 6:27 (local time) where security checks were carried out.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an emailed statement, Scoot – the low-cost arm of Singapore Airlines Group – said that the decision to turn back the Perth-bound flight to Singapore was a “precautionary” one and taken after about an hour into the journey “due to a bomb threat.” &nbsp;</p>

<p>A 30-year-old systems analyst, who did not want to be named, told The Straits Times that passengers were informed at about 5:05 that the aircraft was experiencing “minor issues”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When the fighter jets arrived people were “passing phones to those seated by the windows to take photos,” adding that he did not sense much alarm among those on board.</p>

<p>Vistara, the Indian full-service airline on Wednesday (August 16) said that a child onboard one of its flights suffered burn injuries because of spillage of a hot beverage. The flight was going from New Delhi to Frankfurt. Vistara added that all medical expenses of the child will be reimbursed by the airline.</p>

<p>The incident happened on flight UK25 on August 11. The child who suffered burn injuries is a 10-year-old girl. She was travelling with her parents.</p>

<p>Vistara has released a statement saying it is reviewing and refining process, wherever required, to avoid such situations in the future.</p>

<p>"Our cabin crew had served hot chocolate to the child on the request of her parents, however, the hot water spilled on her since the child was playful during the service. In line with the SOPs, our crew immediately provided first-aid as warranted for the spill, and sought support from a paramedic onboard, who volunteered to assist until the flight landed in Frankfurt," the spokesperson said in the statement.</p>

<p>The airline has said that it ensured medical care immediately upon landing and arranged an ambulance. The girl along with her mother was sent to the hospital.</p>

<p>A post on social media platform X on August 13 claimed the airline's air hostess caused "2nd degree burn to 10 year old on flight to Frankfurt".</p>

<p>The post by one Rachna Gupta also said an unfortunate accident was poorly handled and that the Vistara hostess did not apologise.</p>

<p>Vistara has said in the statement that its representatives have been in touch with the customers constantly after the incident.</p>

<p>"We have already facilitated their early return to India, arranged for ground transportation in Frankfurt, met them at the airport and extended extensive on-ground support. We have conveyed to the customer that all medical expenses arising from this incident will be reimbursed by us."</p>

<p>"We continue to discuss with the customer and provide any further assistance as required. We are also reviewing and refining our processes, wherever required, to ensure such situations are avoided in the future. As always, safety and comfort of our customers is of utmost importance to us," the spokesperson said.</p>

<p>Vistara is a joint venture between Tatas and Singapore Airlines.</p>
