Three broken idols of Hindu Gods have been recovered from the ancient Hindu Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal, authorities said on Monday (Dec 16).

The idols were found in the well near the Shiv-Hanuman Temple, which was opened on Saturday (Dec 14) after being closed for the last 46 years.

Sambhal Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shrish Chandra, who was present at the site, said that the idols were recovered during the digging of the well.

“The area has been secured so that excavation can be done smoothly,” he added.

The Shiv-Hanuman Temple has been closed since 1978 and was reopened by the authorities two days ago after they “stumbled upon” it during a drive against power theft. The devotees also painted religious slogans like 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Om Namah Shivay' on the walls of the temple.

After the reopening of the temple, the premises were cleaned and electricity was restored. CCTV cameras were also installed in the temple for security reasons.

On November 24, a clash broke out between protesters and security personnel in Sambhal after a court order for a survey of a mosque, which led to four people being killed and many others getting injured.

Amid the rising tensions in Sambhal, the district administration earlier had started an anti-encroachment drive to remove unauthorised constructions from public areas. The operation has also been conducted in Chandauli for the last two months, according to Sambhal SDM Vandana Mishra.

Government officials in the Sambhal district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Friday (Dec 13) reopened an ancient temple which was closed since the communal riots in 1978.
The government authorities had "stumbled" upon the Hindu temple during an anti-encroachment drive in Sambhal close to the Shahi Jama Masjid, reported news agency PTI. Inside the temple, the authorities found a Shivling and a Hanuman idol.
As per the locals, the Bhasma Shankar temple had existed since 1978 after communal riots led to the local Hindu community's displacement.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vandana Misra, who was heading the campaign against electricity theft in the area, said that the officials stumbled upon the temple while carrying out an inspection in the region.

"Upon noticing it, I immediately informed the district authorities. We all came here together and decided to reopen the temple," she said, while further confirming that the temple had remained closed for decades.

<h2>Priests perform aarti at Bhasma Shankar temple after 46 years</h2>
On the morning of Sunday (Dec 15), priests performed morning pooja and aarti at the temple. The personnel of Uttar Pradesh Police were deployed outside the temple. 
The priests had cleaned the temple premises and also made arrangements for electricity.
Acharya Brahm Shukla, who performed the aarti at the temple, said to ANI, "We came in the morning and cleaned the temple to perform the aarti. A Brahmin should be appointed here so that he can stay here. Till the time caretaker (for this temple) is appointed, we will take responsibility."

The officials said that CCTV cameras were also installed for security purposes.
Sambhal Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vandana Misra said that the anti-encroachment drive was carried out for structures built on public property and added that the officials will restore the temple to its original structure.
"We have written to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)...Police will be deployed near the temple," she said.
District Magistrate (DM) Rajendra Pensiya said that the ancient well close to the site will also be opened.
"The (ancient Lord Shiva) temple is being cleaned. A ramp had been built over the ancient well. When we dismantled the ramp, the well was revealed," said DM Pensiya.
On November 24, Sambhal got embroiled in violence after tensions erupted over the survey of Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid on orders of the court.

The authorities carried out the autopsy of four people who were killed in the clashes which broke out in Sambhal City in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;

As per the autopsy, the wounds on the dead bodies of the four killed were not from the bullets of the ammunition used by the police of Uttar Pradesh, said Moradabad divisional commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh on Tuesday (Nov 26).

However, no bullets were recovered from the bodies of the people during the postmortem, Singh said.

The statement of the commissioner came after allegations were made that four people were killed in police firing.

However, the autopsy reports of the four deceased - who were identified as Ayan, Bilal, Naeem and Kaif - were not made public.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, a local police official said that as per the reports Ayan had a bullet wound in his abdomen which had damaged his liver. The other three suffered wounds on the chest, he said.&nbsp;

Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said that additional police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order. He further said that the alleged firing, in which a police PRO was injured, was done by using a country-made weapon.

"The situation is under control, and more forces have been deployed. Internet services have been suspended for a day...Some people started pelting stones at the police and the police also retaliated. They torched some vehicles and the police were targeted...Police dispersed the crowd...When DM and DIG were patrolling, two women pelted stones at them and firing was done through a country-made weapon and a PRO got shot in the foot," SP Bishnoi said.

"It is very unfortunate...An FIR has been filed under relevant sections, and strict action will be taken under the NSA. We are also investigating whether there was a conspiracy by examining the mobile phones of the people detained in connection with the violence," the SP added.

In view of the violence, the district administration issued a notice prohibiting citizens from buying or collecting stones, soda bottles, or any flammable or explosive materials on their roofs. The notice, issued by local SDM, warns that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating this order. Additionally, instructions were given to the Municipal Corporation to confiscate any construction material lying on roads immediately.

The stone-pelting incident occurred when a team arrived at the Shahi Jama Masjid to conduct a fresh survey of the mosque. Locals, including those protesting the survey, allegedly pelted stones at survey team and security personnel.

At least three people were killed in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday (Nov. 24) as clashes erupted between a mob and police over the survey of a mosque in Sambhal district.

A massive mob of hundreds of people gathered near Shahi Jama Masjid and opposed the survey, which had been initiated following a court order. There are allegations that the mosque was built at the site after the demolition of a temple by the Mughals.

A massive mob of hundreds of people gathered near Shahi Jama Masjid and opposed the survey, which had been initiated following a court order. There are allegations that the mosque was built at the site after the demolition of a temple by the Mughals. Clashes erupt as mob opposes survey As officials arrived at the scene to conduct the survey, the mob started pelting stones at them, and the situation turned violent. In retaliation, police fired tear gas shells at the crowd. Dozens of cops also sustained injuries during the showdown. Police later confirmed the deaths of two people in the clash but have not revealed their identities. As per reports, the two people succumbed to bullet injuries, but the cause of death will only be ascertained through the autopsy report. As the clashes erupted, the mosque leader made an announcement from inside the Shahi Jama Masjid, urging people to disperse but to no avail. Prashant Kumar, a top cop with Uttar Pradesh police, said the situation was now under control. "A survey was being conducted in Sambhal on the orders of the court. Some anti-social elements have pelted stones. Police and senior officers were present on the spot. The situation is under control, the police will identify the stone pelters and take appropriate legal action," he said. The police detained at least 18 people from the spot, and a drone survey was also conducted to identify the violent protesters. The survey of the mosque has been ordered following a plea by Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, claiming there used to be a Hindu temple at the spot before Mughals razed it. Authorities were prepared for any untoward incident, and a heavy police deployment had been ordered. A similar survey was earlier conducted at the site on Nov. 19. (With inputs from agencies)

Ahead of the upcoming festivals, the Sambhal administration in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/anti-citizenship-act-protests-internet-suspended-in-21-districts-security-forces-deployed-in-uttar-pradesh-270635">Uttar Pradesh</a> on Wednesday announced that prohibitory orders will prevail in the region to maintain law and order till January 31. 
 
Protests erupted in the region including stone-pelting and burning of the public transport over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), section 144 of the CrPC was imposed to maintain law and order which has expired on December 31. 
 
"To maintain law and order in the area the prohibitory order will remain the region as the orders of Section 144 have expired on December 31. In view of the possibility of stoning, sabotage and rioting in the district and festivals, prohibitory orders have been imposed till January 31," said Kamlesh Kumar Awasthi, Additional District Magistrate, Sambhal in a press statement. 
 
The festivals due to which this measure has been taken are January 2-Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, January-14 Lohri, January 15-Makar Sakranti, January 26-Republic day and January 29-Basant Panchmi. 
 
Under these orders, gathering or protesting will be banned. No public property including railways stations and bus stand will be closed. People cannot carry any kind of material which can be used to attack others. People should not indulge in war-mongering and posting or sharing any instigating messages through social media tools, written or verbally will be termed as an offence. 
 
"Under the veil of the traditional festivals, no new kind of ritual will be formed and celebrated. Exhibiting arms or any kind of weapons in public places will be termed as an offence. Before 6 am and after 10 pm, no public gatherings will be held. Also, selling the Chinese 'manjha' will be banned," the release added. 
 
At least 48 people have been arrested in connection with violence during a protest against CAA. 
 
An FIR has also been registered against 17 people including some Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders on December 20. 
 
CAA grants Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday paid tributes to two police personnel who died after a van with 24 under-trial prisoners en route to Moradabad jail was attacked by criminals here.

Speaking to ANI, Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Yamuna Prasad on Wednesday said: "The van was taking 24 under-trials after hearing in Chandausi court to Moradabad jail. The driver of the van heard a gunshot after which he stopped the van. Then the criminals shot two policemen and ran away with a rifle. Three prisoners escaped in the incident."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended condolences on the death of the two police personnel and directed the department to provide compensation of Rs 50 lakhs, government service for one dependent and extraordinary pension to the wife of the deceased.
