"Cooperation must be based on mutual respect and sovereign equality. It should recognise territorial integrity and sovereignty. Jaishankar highlighted that development and growth hinge on peace and stability, emphasising the need for a firm commitment to the SCO Charter.&nbsp;

"Our endeavours will progress only when our commitment to the SCO Charter remains firm. It is axiomatic that development and growth require peace and stability. And as the Charter spelt out, this means being firm and uncompromising in countering the three evils'."

"India remains actively engaged in the SCO format, including various mechanisms and initiatives within the SCO framework," the release said.

The EAM had earlier said that he will not be going to Islamabad to discuss "India-Pakistan relations," but his visit is all about the multilateral event SCO Summit 2024. Jaishankar had also emphasised that he is travelling to Pakistan only to be a "good member of the SCO."

With the arrival of foreign top officials, the security agencies are determined to prevent any disruptions and have amped up security in Islamabad. 
 
To ensure the safety and security of the 23rd SCO summit in Islamabad, the Pakistan Army has been deployed to safeguard the event, key government buildings, and the Red Zone area.

Additionally, rangers have been stationed throughout the capital. 
 
As a precautionary measure, numerous businesses have been temporarily shut down to minimise security risks in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Key routes have also been closed.

Notably, the government has deployed over 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel for the security of about 900 delegates set to arrive for the event.

The delegates will stay at different places in the capital located inside the 'Red Zone' or in the vicinity, as 14 locations in the capital have been arranged for their accommodation, Dawn reported.

A motorcade of 124 vehicles has been arranged to ensure transportation for guests. This fleet will be divided into two groups: 84 vehicles will escort the heads of states, while 40 vehicles will cater to other delegates. With all delegations set to arrive, a packed schedule awaits on Wednesday.

“Regarding UNSC's permanent membership, our aim is to get it as soon as possible. But, this target won’t be achieved that soon. Because the permanent members still enjoy a lot of clout. Whether it’s the Ukraine or Gaza, they have dealings amongst themselves on issues that affect the whole world. So, they won’t want it (number of permanent members) to become six, seven or eight," said Jaishankar at the time.&nbsp;

"So, if we have to come, we will have to make everyone aware, putting pressure and persuading them, only then will we achieve our target,” he added.&nbsp;

He said, "At the moment SAARC is not moving forward, we haven't had a meeting of SAARC for a very simple reason - there is one member of SAARC who is practising cross-border terrorism at least against one more member of SAARC, maybe more... Terrorism is something which is unacceptable and despite a global view of it if one of our neighbours continues to do it - there cannot be business as usual in SAARC."

The top Indian diplomat lashed out at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for likening the situation in Kashmir to that in Palestine. Jaishankar said Pakistan’s terror policy will never succeed, warning Islamabad of severe consequences for its actions.

"We heard some bizarre assertions from this very forum (UNGA) yesterday. Let me make India's position very clear. Pakistan's policy of cross-border terrorism will never succeed. And it can have no expectation of impunity. On the contrary, actions will certainly have consequences", Jaishankar said in his speech,” the Indian foreign minister said.

"The issue to be resolved between us is only the vacation of illegally occupied Indian territory by Pakistan and, of course, abandonment of Pakistan's long-standing attachment to terrorism", he added.

Jaishankar also said&nbsp;that Pakistan’s “GDP can be measured in terms of radicalisation” and “exports in the form of terrorism".

Earlier, Pakistan PM Sharif at the UNGA had said that the situation in Kashmir was like that in Palestine, saying people there had "struggled for a century for their freedom and right to self-determination".

Sharif had also called on India to restore Kashmir’s special rights given under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

The temple of BAPS, or Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, was vandalised after it criticised anti-Hindu sentiments.

Besides the 'Hindus go back' message, the vandals also wrote expletives addressed at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

In a post on X, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said the graffiti was spray-painted on the temple building by the vandals who also damanged some water pipes.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has cleared the air on where India and China relations stand at the moment in the backdrop of border issues. Jaishankar said when he talked about&nbsp;75 per cent progress had been made on the India-China border dispute talks, he only meant about the&nbsp;disengagement of troops in eastern&nbsp;Ladakh.&nbsp;

Jaishankar was addressing an event titled 'India, Asia and the World' at the Asia Society Policy Institute in New York on Tuesday (Sep 25) when he issued the clarification.&nbsp;

"When I said 75 per cent of it (border dispute) has been sorted out, it's only of the disengagement. So, that's one part of the problem. So we've been able to sort out much of the disengagement in the friction points. But some of the patrolling issues need to be resolved. The next step will be de-escalation," Jaishankar said.

The Indian minister reflected on the 'difficult history' with China and how the border tensions had overshadowed the relations between the two countries.&nbsp;

"We have a difficult history with China. Despite the explicit agreements we had with China, we saw in the middle of COVID-19 that the Chinese moved a large number of forces in violation of these agreements to the LAC. It was likely a mishap would happen and it did. So, there was a clash and a number of troops died on either side. That, in a sense, overshadowed the relationship," he said at the Asia Society.&nbsp;

The Indian and Chinese militaries have been locked in a standoff since May 2020 and a full resolution of the border row has not yet been achieved though the two sides have disengaged from a number of friction points.

However, speaking&nbsp;at a think-tank interaction in Geneva earlier this month, Jaishankar said there had been progress between the two countries.&nbsp;

"We made some progress. I would say roughly you can say about 75 per cent of the disengagement problems are sorted out," Jaishankar said.&nbsp;

Pointing that GCC is a "cornerstone of global energy supply", EAM called for "deepening" collaboration as that will help in "stabilising markets, driving innovation and enhancing energy security." India, which is the world's fifth largest economy is a major importer of energy.

The meeting adopted a Joint Action Plan 2024-2028 for undertaking various joint activities in diverse areas including health, trade, security, agriculture and food security, transportation, energy, culture, amongst others.

A note signed by Under Secretary General for General Assembly and Conference Management Movses Abelian accompanying the list said that the revised list of speakers "has been prepared by taking into account the changes in the level of representation (upgrades and downgrades) and reflects exchanges among Member States".

This year, the General Debate of the 79th UNGA session will take place from September 24 to 30.

Brazil, traditionally the first speaker at the debate, will open the high-level session on September 24, followed by the US, with President Joe Biden delivering his current term’s final address to global leaders from the iconic UN podium before his country heads to presidential elections in November.

Guterres is convening the ambitious Summit of the Future at the UN headquarters ahead of the high-level week, with action days slated for September 20 and 21 and the summit scheduled on September 22 and 23.

World leaders will convene at the United Nations to adopt the Pact for the Future, which will include a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations as annexes.

"The summit is a high-level event, bringing world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future," the U.N. said.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday (Aug 31) said that New Delhi&nbsp;has a “special China problem,” adding that the state of bilateral ties warrants heavy scrutiny of investments from the communist country.

Jaishankar said China is the focus of major national security and economic debates in Europe and the United States. “Look at the United States. It is obsessed with China, and rightly so in many ways,” the Indian top diplomat said.

“So, the fact is that it is not only India which has a China problem…India has a China problem… a special China problem that is over and above the world’s general China problem,” the External Affairs Minister (EAM)&nbsp;said.

Jaishankar’s remarks came days after India and China held the 31st meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation &amp; Coordination on Border Affairs on August 29 in Beijing.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will embark on a three-day official visit to the Maldives on Friday,(Aug 9).&nbsp;

This marks the first high-level visit from New Delhi since relations between the two countries deteriorated following the inauguration of the Maldives' pro-China president, Mohamed Muizzu, nearly nine months ago.

“Met with CPC Politburo member and FM Wang Yi in Vientiane today. Continued our ongoing discussions about our bilateral relationship. The state of the border will necessarily be reflected on the state of our ties,” S Jaishankar said in a post on X after meeting with Wang on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meetings.

The talks between Jaishankar and Wang come amid continuing row between the two countries over Chinese transgressions in eastern Ladakh. The row has entered its fifth year in May.

"Agreed on the need to give strong guidance to complete the disengagement process. Must ensure full respect for the LAC and past agreements. It is in our mutual interest to stabilise our ties. We should approach the immediate issues with a sense of purpose and urgency," Jaishankar added.&nbsp;

Jaishankar, before serving as India's foreign secretary, and later as External Affairs Minister — since 2019 to present — also served as India's ambassador to China. In the South Block, one of the secretariat buildings in New Delhi that also houses External Affairs Ministry, before becoming the External Affairs Minister, Jaishankar was often described by his colleagues as South Block's 'China specialist'.

The ties between India and China have deteriorated after 20 Indian Army soldiers died in the line of duty in a clash with the Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. An unspecified number of Chinese troops also died in the brutal clash in hand-to-hand combat.&nbsp;

Jaishankar is visiting Vientiane from July 25 to 27 to take part in the Foreign Ministers' Meetings under the ASEAN framework in the format of the ASEAN-India, East Asia Summit (EAS), and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
