Investigators said searches at Kuznetsov's properties uncovered the equivalent of more than $1 million in roubles and foreign currency, as well as gold coins, watches and luxury items.

Kuznetsov could not be reached for comment. The charges against him and Ivanov, the former deputy minister, carry a jail term of up to 15 years.

Ivanov denies accusations that he received bribes worth $11 million in the form of property services from a construction company in return for contracts.

The Russian ministry also released footage on Telegram which shows Shoigu in khaki military fatigues inspecting soldiers at a shooting range, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

This also comes days after Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev claimed more than 185,000 new recruits have joined Moscow’s army as professional contract soldiers since the beginning of this year.&nbsp;

According to local prosecutors, the youngest child injured in the attack was three-months old. Additionally, cars damaged by the strike and flames were also seen nearby while a man sat in an ambulance with blood over his face, reported the news agency.&nbsp;

“I only remember that when the explosion sounded, we were thrown up into the air…I just can’t get a grip of myself, my legs are still shaking,” said a local resident, who only gave her name as Alla, according to Reuters.&nbsp;

The former commander of the Azov battalion, which is now a part of the Ukrainian army, Major Maksym Zhorin, said that the Russian strike targeted a military funeral of soldier Oleh Fadeenko. The Ukrainian soldier was said to have been killed in combat near Bakhmut.&nbsp;

“They targeted the site where the ceremony was taking place,” said Zhorin, on Telegram. A report by Reuters citing television footage said that around 100 people have gathered for the Ukrainian soldier’s funeral in Pervomaiskyi, some in uniform and some in civilian clothes.

Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, Oleksiy Danilov took to Twitter on Tuesday and wrote, “At this stage of active hostilities, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are fulfilling the number one task – the maximum destruction of manpower, equipment, fuel depots, military vehicles, command posts, artillery and air defense forces of the Russian army.”&nbsp;

He added, “The last few days have been particularly fruitful.” However, no other details were provided from the battlefield. This comes as Ukraine launched its long-awaited counteroffensive last month.&nbsp;

Ukrainian forces also managed to hold back an attempted advance by Russian forces in the eastern regions of Lyman, Avdiivka and Marinka, said Kovalev.

<h2>185,000 new contract soldiers have joined Russian army in 2023</h2>

Medvedev, on Tuesday, citing data from the Russian defence ministry, said more than 185,000 people were accepted into the military between January 1 to July 4, reported Reuters. He added, out of which “about 109,000 are in the reserve, as well as other categories of citizens who are called up to serve under contract.”&nbsp;

This comes amid reports of Russia suffering heavy losses in Ukraine, which Moscow has not acknowledged. The claims by the former Russian president were made in a video posted on Telegram which also said that almost 10,000 new recruits had joined since the Wagner mutiny.&nbsp;

The Russian defence ministry, on Saturday (April 15), said that the fighters of Moscow’s Wagner mercenary group have captured two more areas of the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. The city on the frontlines has witnessed some of the deadliest battles amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has recently taken on huge symbolic importance even though analysts say it has little strategic value, as per media reports.&nbsp;

Russia claims parts of Bakhmut

In a statement, the Russian defence ministry said, “On the Donetsk direction, the fiercest fighting has been continuing in the city of Artyomovsk,” referring to the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut by its Soviet-era name. It added, “Wagner assault units successfully advanced, capturing two areas on the northern and southern outskirts of the city.”

This also comes after Moscow claimed to have cut off Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut, on Thursday. However, Ukraine has since denied these claims and said its troops had access and were able to send in munitions.&nbsp;

UK defence ministry update

In its intelligence updates, the United Kingdom, on Friday (April 14) said that the Ukrainian troops have been pushed back from some territory in Bakhmut as Russia mounted a renewed assault with intense artillery fire over the past two days or so. However, the Ukrainian defence still holds the western districts of the town, said the British Ministry of Defence.&nbsp;

It added, “Ukrainian forces face significant resupply issues but have made orderly withdrawals from the positions they have been forced to concede.” This also comes as Russia, on Friday, had said that it would push to take the western districts of the salt mining town which before the conflict had a population of 70,000 people.&nbsp;

Russia claims parts of Bakhmut have been seized by Wagner fighters

According to Ukrainian general Valeriy Zaluzhny, "Since the beginning of September, more than 3,000 square kilometres have been returned to Ukrainian control. Around Kharkiv, we have begun to advance not only in the south and east but also to the north. We are 50 kilometres (31 miles) from the border."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Russian army was 'showing its back'

“These days, the Russian army is showing its best showing its back. And, in the end, it is a good choice for them to run away. There is and will be no place for the occupiers in Ukraine,” he said.

Ukrainian forces in Kharkiv hit by precision strikes: Russian defence ministry

Requesting the United States to recognise Moscow as a state sponsor of terrorism, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday condemned the deaths of dozens of prisoners in a Russian-held jail.

Calling the shelling of the prison a “deliberate Russian war crime”, Zelensky said 50 Ukrainian prisoners were killed in it.

In a late-night video address, he said, “I am appealing, especially, to the United States of America. A decision is needed and it is needed now.”

Saying dozens of people died and scores were wounded, Russia and Moscow-backed separatists had earlier accused Kyiv’s forces of striking the jail by using US-supplied precision High Mobility Artillery Rocket System rockets.

The Russian defence ministry on Sunday (July 10) claimed that its forces have struck two Ukrainian army hangars storing US-produced M777 howitzers, which is a type of artillery weapon. The ministry said that the army hangars were near Kostantinovka in the Donetsk region. News agency Reuters cited the Russian ministry as saying that the US-made M777 howitzers had been used to shell residential areas of Donetsk. Russia claims to have hit Ukrainian hangars storing US-made M777 howitzers

According to eagle-eyed online users, Russian President Vladimir Putin may have staged a recent visit to a military hospital in Moscow to meet with wounded soldiers.

Kremlin had released a video a few days ago in which Putin can be seen at the Mandryk Central Military Clinical Hospital of the Russian Defence Ministry.&nbsp;

In the video, he can be seen speaking to members of the Russian Armed Forces undergoing treatment after being wounded during the special military operation, as well as with the hospital’s medical personnel.

He told one of the Russian soldier's sons that, “He will be proud of his dad.”&nbsp;

Netizens have claimed that they recognise one of the “patients” at the military hospital from a previous event.

According to Adam Rang, a self-described “counter-propaganda” activist living in Estonia, pointed out a wounded soldier resembled a factory worker who Putin previously met.

"Over the course of the operation, a total of more than 87,500 rebels have been eliminated, 1,411 settlements have been liberated and more than 95 per cent of Syria's territory," Shoigu was quoted as saying at a forum in Singapore in a ministry statement.

"Most of the rebels have been liquidated," Shoigu said.

Britain-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says close to 365,000 people have been killed during the seven-year civil war.

Russia launched strikes in support of President Bashar al-Assad's regime in September 2015.

Russian air forces have carried out more than 40,000 bombing missions, hitting about 120,000 targets of "terrorist" infrastructure, Shoigu said.
