A freight train derailment occurred in the western Russian region bordering Ukraine, on Tuesday (May 2), for the second day in a row due to an “explosive device” on the tracks, said the governor of Russia’s Bryansk region.

Media reports citing local officials have said that the locomotive and some cars of the train were derailed after a similar incident occurred, on Monday, near Unecha where the locomotive and seven freight wagons were derailed.

The incident, on Tuesday, occurred in the western Bryansk region, which borders both Ukraine and Belarus where Russian officials have reported multiple attacks by pro-Ukrainian sabotage groups since Moscow invaded Kyiv over a year ago.

In a statement, the Bryansk region governor Alexander Bogomaz said, “An unidentified explosive device went off near the Snezhestkaya railway station,” as quoted by the news agency AFP. He added, “A locomotive and several wagons of the train derailed,” adding that there were no casualties. He also did not indicate who was responsible for the incident.

Russian Railways also released a statement without mentioning an explosive device, and said that the train had derailed due to “the intervention of unauthorised persons in the work of rail transport”.

The state operator also confirmed that the incident took place at 7:47 pm (local time) between Snezhetskaya, just to the southeast of Bryansk, and the nearby village of Belye Berega where the rail traffic has been suspended. The railway authorities also said the train’s front locomotive and “around 20 wagons” were derailed.

Meanwhile, the Russian news agency TASS citing officials reported that firefighters were working at the scene and two recovery trains had been dispatched to the area. The local prosecutors have also launched an investigation into the incident, said news agency.

What happened on Monday?

This comes a day after Bogomaz took to Telegram and wrote, “An unidentified explosive device went off, as a result of which a locomotive of a freight train derailed,” adding that there were “no casualties”. Images and videos from the site shared on social media platforms showed plumes of dark grey smoke rising into the air and several tank carriages also seen lying on their side.

The incident occurred at 10:17 am (Moscow time) between regional hub Bryansk and the town of Unecha and the train was reportedly carrying oil products and timber. Notably, the governor of the northern Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, on Monday had said that local power lines were blown up by an “explosive device.”

Ahead of an anticipated counter-offensive by Ukraine, the Russian army has replaced its highest-ranking general in charge of logistics. Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev, who is under British sanctions for his role in the siege of the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol — seized by Russia around a year ago — has been replaced by Alexei Kuzmenkov, a former official from the National Guard, according to a statement from the Russian defence ministry.

"Kuzmenkov was appointed to the position of deputy defence minister of the Russian Federation, responsible for the logistical support of the Armed Forces," said the ministry in its statement. As per AFP, the statement did not mention why Mizintsev had been replaced after only seven months on the job.

'Butcher of Mariupol': Russia replaces its logistics commander ahead of Ukraine counteroffensive

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday said that they will launch its counter-offensive against the armed forces of Russia even though they have not received Western fighter aircraft.

On multiple occasions, Zelensky had appealed to widen the Western military aid's scope for Ukraine.

"Frankly speaking, it would help us a lot. But we also understand that we can't drag it (the counteroffensive) out, which is why we'll start before we receive F-16s or other models. But to calm Russia down with the fact that we'd still need a couple of months to train on the aircraft and only then we'd start (a counteroffensive). No, this won't happen. We'll start and go forward, while at the same time, simultaneously, I think this is very important (to receive western fighter aircraft)," he said.

While addressing the Scandinavian journalists in Kyiv, Zelensky said that there were nations that had F-16 and other "Western kind aircraft" which were "ready to help us".

"We are capable of putting an end to this war. However, not everything is going to happen at once tomorrow. We need time to train, but we have an understanding how to do this faster, and we understand the logistics behind it. And most importantly, as of today, there are countries that have F-16s or other 'western kind aircraft' who want to, and who are ready to help us,” he stated.

However, the Ukrainian leader did not specify which countries he was referring to. The Ukrainian air force only owns Soviet-era fighter aircraft.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was pressed on this point by Zelensky at a meeting held in Kyiv on April 20 and said that the military alliance needed to open its doors for membership of Ukraine.

After facing a Russian winter as well as spring offensive which has made small advances in the east, Ukraine now plans to recapture the land in its east and south in a counteroffensive in the weeks or months ahead.

In an earlier interview, Zelensky had claimed that he carries a pistol and would have fought with the Russian forces to death if they had stormed his Kyiv headquarters when the war began.

"I know how to shoot. Could you imagine (a headline like) 'The President of Ukraine is taken captive by Russians?' This is a disgrace. I believe this would be a disgrace," he said while speaking to the 1+1 television channel.

The European Commission said Friday that it has secured an 'in principle' agreement to lift the ban on the transit of Ukrainian grain via five EU member nations.

This comes after concerns were raised earlier by Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia that grain from Ukraine intended for export to other nations had wound up in their domestic markets, driving down prices for local farmers.

Grain from Ukraine that couldn't be shipped through the Black Sea ports due to Russia's invasion was routed through the five nations. Millions of tonnes of grain were then stuck in bottlenecks in the nations bordering Ukraine, forcing local farmers to compete with a flood of cheap Ukrainian imports that farmers said the supply and demand were skewed which led to the chaos.

According to a tweet from Valdis Dombrovskis, vice president of the European Commission, the EU executive has agreed in principle with the five to address concerns of both farmers in neighbouring EU countries and Ukraine.

He claimed that safeguard measures for four products—wheat, maize, rapeseed, and sunflower seed—were included in the agreement. However, he did not reveal anything further.

Former Russian president and a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, said last Sunday that if the G7 decided to impose export restrictions on Russia, Moscow would retaliate by cancelling the Black Sea Grain Agreement, which permits crucial grain shipments from Ukraine.

Russia has threatened on many occasions to withdraw from the grain agreement, which is set to expire on 18 May. "In such a case, the grain deal - and many other things that they need - will end for them," he added.

EU nations reach deal 'in principle' to transit grain from Ukraine

A total of 26 people, including five children, have been killed as Russian missile strikes battered cities across Ukraine on Friday (April 28). Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the latest strikes and vowed a response. "Only absolute evil can unleash such terror against Ukraine," he said in his evening address on Friday, the news agency AFP reported on Saturday.

Friday's attacks included a strike on a residential block in Ukraine's Uman city, where rescue workers were seen extracting victims' remains from a destroyed residential building. According to authorities, 23 people, including four children, were killed in the block.

Russian missiles also targeted the central city of Dnipro, killing a 31-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter in their sleep. AFP reported that the woman's parents were hospitalised. Dnipro is already grief-stricken after over 40 people were killed in a missile strike on a tower block in January.

Separately, authorities in Kherson said on Friday that Russian forces shelled the village of Bilozerka, killing a 57-year-old woman and wounding three others. Meanwhile, there were no casualties reported in Ukraine's capital Kyiv which was one of the targeted cities.

The fresh attacks by Russian forces were the first large-scale air strikes in nearly two months.

Friday's attacks included a strike on a residential block in Ukraine's Uman city, where rescue workers were seen extracting victims' remains from a destroyed residential building. A huge fire broke out at a fuel depot in Russia-annexed Crimea's port city of Sevastopol on Saturday (April 29), with authorities saying it was the result of a drone strike. The Russian-installed governor of the peninsula, Mikhail Razvozhayev said on Telegram, "A fuel reserve is on fire in the Kazachya Bay district of Crimea's port city Sevastopol. According to preliminary information, it was caused by a drone strike." No one was hurt in the fire, Razvozhayev said. "The situation is under the control of our firefighters and all operative services. Since the volume of fuel is large, it will take time to localise the fire," the governor further said and urged residents to remain calm. Huge fire breaks out at fuel depot in Russian-occupied Crimea after drone strike: Official

A Danish newspaper has claimed quoting the Denmark military that a Russian Navy ship was spotted near the Nord Stream pipelines days before the September 2022 blasts.

Dagbladet Information newspaper on Thursday reported that the Russian submarine rescue ship, SS-750, was spotted in the Baltic Sea just four days before the unexplained explosions near the pipeline that linked Russia to Germany.

The paper quoting Danish defence authorities reported that as many as 26 images were taken of the ship, which carries a small submarine that is designed to carry out underwater operations.

“The Danish military confirmed that 26 photos of the Russian vessel were taken from a Danish patrol boat in the zone located east of Bornholm on 22 September 2022,” the newspaper said, adding that the photos were classified.

The prosecutor leading Sweden’s investigation into the sabotage has acknowledged the existence of these photographs.

“I’m aware of the information from before…This is not new information to us,” public prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist said on Friday, AFP news agency reported.

He, however, did not divulge further on how the probing team intends to use these photographs for investigation, saying that it was “confidential".

Seven months have passed since the blasts and it has not yet been established who was responsible for it, despite criminal investigations launched by three countries—Germany, Sweden and Denmark—that border the pipeline.

Swedish and Danish authorities termed the blasts an act of deliberate sabotage. In November, Sweden’s Prosecution Authority claimed that residues of explosives and several “foreign objects” were found at the “crime scene” on the seabed, around 100 metres below the surface of the Baltic Sea, close to the Danish Island of Bornholm.

In March, The New York Times reported that US intelligence officials have proof that a “pro-Ukrainian group” was responsible for the blasts, without the involvement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

At that time Ljungqvist said it was “still unclear” who was behind the sabotage, calling it “a complex case”.

“Our primary assumption is that a state is behind it,” he was quoted as saying.

Still, speculations about Russia's involvement haven't been completely ruled out. Last week, a joint investigation by Danish, Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian public broadcasters last week found that Russia has been using civilian vessels to collect intelligence on military activity and critical infrastructure in the North Sea, Politico reported.

Russian navy ship photographed near Nord Stream pipelines days before blasts: Report

The discount given by Russia to India for crude oil has decreased as China's demand for the product rockets. Quoting two Indian government officials in the know, Mint reports that the steep discounts the country enjoyed through most of FY23 have plunged due to Chinese demand and a cut at oil producers' end.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, back in February 2022, sparked a slew of Western sanctions. Following this, as Moscow was left scrambling for buyers for its crude oil, India stepped up as a major buyer and managed to secure discounts of up to $15-20 a barrel. As per the Mint report, these discounts have now fallen below $10 and have even touched $5.

“With Russian oil finding more buyers, the discounts to Indian refiners have been coming down. Earlier, we were getting discounts that varied from cargo to cargo," one official told Mint, on the condition of anonymity.

“We used to get around $15-20 per barrel discount on Russian oil cargoes depending on what used to be the price in the spot market. That discount has become less now," said the second official.

However, recently, China, which happens to be the world's second-largest oil buyer, has become one of the top buyers of Russian oil.

As per Chinese government data, while earlier Saudi Arabia was the country's top oil supplier, Russia has taken over the position during January and February 2023.

China's General Administration of Customs in March released data that showed the number of imports from Russia in January-February was 15.68 million tonnes, which is equivalent to 1.94 million barrels per day (mbpd), an increase of 23.8 per cent from 1.57 mbpd during the same period the year before.

This comes as a US-led global initiative along with G7 countries, the European Union and Australia imposed a $60 per barrel cap on Russian oil. Meanwhile, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries plus grouping (OPEC+) which includes Russia, has announced an additional 1.16 million barrels per day of supply cut. This takes effect next month.

During FY23, by providing discounts amidst the Ukraine conflict, Russia became a significant provider of oil to Indian refiners for the first time. As a result, in the 11 months leading up to February of the previous fiscal year, India imported crude oil worth $27 billion from its strategic partner, placing the Russian Federation in second place for Indian oil imports. Additionally, the discounted Russian oil aided India in satisfying the rising demand for petroleum products. India consumed 222.30 million tonnes of petroleum products in FY23, 10.2 per cent more than in the previous year.

According to Ukrainian national police, 17 people were wounded and three children were rescued from the rubble. Umam is located around 215 kilometres (134 miles) south of Kyiv.

The news agency quoted regional Telegram accounts and reported that unidentified airborne objects were headed for the west of Ukraine. Furthermore, explosions as per Interfax were reported after midnight in Dnipro, Kremenchuk and Poltava in central Ukraine and in Mykolaiv in the south.

Citing “another online source,” Reuters reports that an explosion was also reported in the Kyiv region.

Meanwhile, on Thursday Russian troops as per Ukrainian officers tried to cut off essential supply routes into Ukraine’s Bakhmut. This, as per the officers, was done with the motive of putting more pressure on defending forces.

Talking to the Freedom television channel, spokesperson for Ukrainian troops in the east Serhiy Cherevatyi, revealed that in the past 24 hours, Bakhmut had seen 13 new combats.

“The enemy’s main goal in the Bakhmut sector is to cut communication routes,” he said, adding that, “thanks to constant counter-battery combat ... we can deliver supplies and evacuate our wounded.”

Ukrainian military analyst Oleksander Musiyenko, as per Reuters, said that districts were rapidly changing hands in fierce fighting that has already gone on for 15 months.

“Ukraine is successfully conducting local counter-attacks, making it difficult for the Russians to capture Bakhmut,” he told Ukrainian NV Radio.

Furthermore, in a resolution adopted on Thursday, the Council of Europe has branded Russia’s forced transfer of Ukrainian children as amounting to ‘genocide.’

Calling for the safe return of the children back home to Ukraine, it said “The documented evidence of this practice matches with the international definition of genocide.”

Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, hailed the resolution as an “important,” decision and said that it would help “hold Russia and its leaders to account”.

In his evening address, he called the forced transfer of Ukrainian children an element of “Russia’s attempt to erase the identity of our people, to destroy the very essence of the Ukrainian people”, he said in his evening address.

Previously, on March 17, the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, over Moscow’s “unlawful deportation” of children. The court also issued a warrant for Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia’s presidential commissioner for children’s rights.

Talking to the Freedom television channel, spokesperson for Ukrainian troops in the east Serhiy Cherevatyi, revealed that in the past 24 hours, Bakhmut had seen 13 new combats. “The enemy’s main goal in the Bakhmut sector is to cut communication routes,” he said, adding that, “thanks to constant counter-battery combat ... we can deliver supplies and evacuate our wounded.” Ukrainian military analyst Oleksander Musiyenko, as per Reuters, said that districts were rapidly changing hands in fierce fighting that has already gone on for 15 months. Furthermore, in a resolution adopted on Thursday, the Council of Europe has branded Russia’s forced transfer of Ukrainian children as amounting to ‘genocide.’ Calling for the safe return of the children back home to Ukraine, it said “The documented evidence of this practice matches with the international definition of genocide.” Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, hailed the resolution as an “important,” decision and said that it would help “hold Russia and its leaders to account”. Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, the first known call between the two leaders since the start of Russia's invasion. The nearly one-hour discussion, which reportedly included Xi advocating for peace negotiations, was met by Russian accusations that Ukraine was undermining efforts to end the fighting. Beijing says it is neutral in the Ukraine conflict and Xi has never condemned the Russian invasion, but the Chinese leader has come under increased pressure from Western nations to step in and mediate.

United State's proposal for the Group of Seven (G7) countries to ban all exports to Russia was met with resistance, ahead of a summit of the bloc.

As per a Financial Times report, the European Union (EU) and Japan pushed back against the proposal during negotiations ahead of a summit of the world's most advanced economies.

According to documents seen by the Financial Times, G7 leaders are drafting a statement for their meeting in Hiroshima next month. This statement includes a US proposal for a pledge to replace the current sector-by-sector sanctions regime against Russia with a complete export ban, with a few exemptions for agricultural, medical and other products.

The pledge is reportedly prompted by Washington's frustration over the loopholes in the existing system that allow Russia to continue to import Western technology.

During a preparatory meeting last week, EU and Japan however said that the move isn't feasible. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of the officials said that from their perspective "it is simply not do-able."

The US said that it would "continue to look for ways to hold Russia accountable."

The disagreement as per FT underscores the lack of additional options available to G& leaders as the Western nations seek to penalise Russia for its invasion of Ukraine that began 15 months back. Since then, a number of sanction measures designed to cut off Moscow's economy from the global markets and deprive it of Western imports of technology, machinery and finance.

Nikolai Peskov, the 33-year-old son of Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov served in Ukraine with Wagner Group, a private military company (PMC) known for providing mercenary services to Russia.

In an interview with Russian media, Nikolai claimed he served in Ukraine as he "couldn’t sit on the sidelines and watch friends and other people go there," reported CNN.

The Wagner group has been accused of committing numerous human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, torture, and other abuses against civilians.

Nikolai said he served with Wagner for about six months and was also honored with the Medal for Courage.

Opening up to the newspaper during the interview, Nikolai said that he could not figure out how to serve in Ukraine on his own and so he had to "turn to my dad... and he helped me with that."

It was not revealed during the talk as to what name he used when he served with Wagner. He said he might need to use the fictitious name again that he used before.

Prigozhin claims that Nikolai Peskov spent six months as a loader for an ammunition supply vehicle at PMC Wagner while using fictitious paperwork bearing a different last name. The Wagner commander said that Peskov underwent a three-week training programme at their camp in Molkino.

"After that, when he left for Luhansk, it was necessary to expand the combined artillery battalion, and he was sent to join an Uragan [multiple rocket launcher] crew," Prigozhin said, adding Nikolai "showed courage and heroism, just like all the others".

Russia's elite and children of government officials have already come under fire for refusing to fight in Ukraine.

Who will launch the next big offensive in Ukraine? Will it be Russia or Ukrainian military? Reports say Ukraine's spring offensive is being delayed because of lack of weapons. Meanwhile, word is spreading about a possible Russian spring offensive. Molly Gambhir tells you.

In an effort to recruit more troops to fight in Ukraine, the Russian military has released a video ad that challenges anyone who is interested in joining the Ukraine conflict to prove they are "a real man" by leaving behind what it says is a humdrum civilian life. Major Russian social networking sites have already started to run the recruitment advertisement.

The dramatic advertisement comes after reports from Russian media and British military intelligence that Moscow is looking to reinforce its forces in Ukraine by enlisting up to 400,000 more soldiers.

Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Kremlin critic, has been jailed for 25 years on charges including treason over criticism of Russia's offensive against its neighbour Ukraine. The 41-year-old's high-profile trial is the latest in a string of cases targeting those critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin. As per AFP, the crackdown has worsened since Putin ordered Russian troops to begin a military offensive 14 months back.

Charges against Kara-Murza include treason, spreading "false" information about the Russian army, and affiliation with an "undesirable organisation."

Following a closed-door trial, he has been found guilty of all charges. The Kremlin critic has been sentenced to 25 years in a strict regime penal colony.

Here's all you need to know about Vladimir Kara-Murza:

Who is Vladimir Kara-Murza?

He is a historian, a journalist and an opposition politician. The Kremlin critic is a dual citizen and holds Russian and British passports.

Kara-Murza was a close associate of Boris Nemtsov, an outspoken critic of Russian President Putin, who was assassinated on February 27, 2015.

Nemtsov was a stringent critic of the Putin government, which he viewed as an increasingly authoritarian, undemocratic regime. He was killed after being hit by four bullets, which were reportedly shot from the back. In the weeks before his death, he had even expressed a fear that Putin would have him killed.

Vladimir Kara-Murza is also a known close associate of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a former oligarch turned Putin critic.

Did Kara-Murza face any "assassination attempts"?

In 2015 and then again in 2017, the Kremlin critic suddenly fell ill. Both times, his condition worsened to the point of him slipping into a coma. As per the Guardian, he nearly died from kidney failure in the first attempt on his life.

Kara-Murza alleges that he was poisoned by the Russian security services. However, Russian authorities deny any involvement in the incidents.

Reuters reports that even today Kara-Murza is suffering the effects of the alleged poisonings. As per his lawyers, the Kremlin critic is plagued by a nerve condition called polyneuropathy, which was triggered due to the said assassination attempts.

Did he flee Russia after these "attempts" on his life?

AFP reports that almost all of Putin's best-known political opponents and critics have either fled the country or, like another prominent Kremlin critic, Alexei Navalny, are in jail; a fate that Kara-Murza now faces.

He is one of the small numbers of Putin's opposition politicians who remained active in Russia, even after the nation invaded its neighbour country and the resulting Ukraine war.

Kara-Murza's criticism of Putin and the Ukraine war

The politician has been a vocal critic of the Russian invasion of Ukraine from the get-go. He even launched an anti-war committee with fellow leading Russian opposition figures.

Kara-Murza infamously described the Kremlin as a "regime of murderers."

In April 2022, appearing on CNN, he said: "I have absolutely no doubt that the Putin regime will end over this war in Ukraine, doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen tomorrow. The two main questions are time and price, and by price, I do not mean monetary – I mean the price of human blood and human lives and it has already been horrendous, but the Putin regime will end over this and there will be a democratic Russia after Putin."

When was he arrested? What charges were imposed against him?

Kara-Murza was arrested on April 11, 2022, on charges of disobeying police orders and faced up to 15 days in jail or a small fine. However, the arrest came hours after he referred to Putin's government as "a regime of murderers."

Subsequently, on April 22, 2022, he was charged by a Russian court for spreading "false" information about the Russian troops. The charges were reportedly imposed for his March 15 speech to the Arizona House of Representatives, in which he denounced the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He was declared a "foreign agent" for his statement.

In July, new charges of cooperating with an "undesirable" foreign NGO were added, which comes with up to six years in prison. In October, for public speeches he made in Lisbon, Helsinki and Washington, he was charged with treason, a crime that carries up to 20 years in prison.

How did the Kremlin critic respond to the charges levied against him?

As per a copy of the speech Kara-Murza delivered to the court where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison, the Kremlin critic said he has done nothing wrong and that he was "proud" of his words.

"I subscribe to every word that I have said, that I am incriminated for today," he said as per comments published by veteran journalist Alexei Venediktov.

"Not only do I not repent for any of it — I am proud of it," he added.

"Criminals are supposed to repent of what they have done. I, on the other hand, am in prison for my political views. I also know that the day will come when the darkness over our country will dissipate," said Kara-Murza, who has described the entire case against him as being based on "political vengeance" and compared the proceedings to Josef Stalin's show trials of the 1930s — held between by the Soviet Union between 1936 and 1938. Defendants were Old Bolshevik Party leaders and top officials of the Soviet secret police, these trials are often seen as a great purge to rid of Stalin's opposition in the party.

WION Explains | Who is Vladimir Kara-Murza, the Kremlin critic jailed for 25 years

At discussions in Warsaw on Monday, Kyiv is attempting to re-open food and grain transit via Poland. As per Reuters, this is a "first step" to lifting the import restrictions after some nations stopped importing grain from Ukraine to safeguard their own agricultural markets from an influx of supplies.

This comes as Poland and Hungary on Saturday announced bans on some imports. Slovakia also announced a similar action and reportedly other nations in central and eastern Europe are also considering action.

"The first step, in our opinion, should be the opening of transit, because it is quite important and it is the thing that should be done unconditionally and after that we will talk about other things," said Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Solsky.

Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus, as per TVP Info, revealed that talks between Ukraine and Poland were due to start in Warsaw around 12:00 pm (1000 GMT) on Monday.

As per Solsky, Ukraine is also holding additional talks this week in Romania on Wednesday, and in Slovakia on Thursday.

In comments published on the Telegram messaging app by the Agriculture Ministry Solsky said that about 10 per cent of food goods Ukraine exports cross the Polish border. While deliveries to Hungary account for around six per cent of Ukraine's farm exports.

Poland's embargo, which came into effect Saturday evening, also applies to transit through the country to keep grain transport from entering the Polish market.

"The ultimate goal is not that the import ban will be in force indefinitely, but to ensure that grain from Ukraine, which is to be exported, goes (where it is headed)," said Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski while talking to radio station RMF.

As Slovakia prepared to ban imports of wheat and other specified products from Ukraine temporarily, a Slovakian government spokeswoman said on Monday, impediments to Ukrainian imports appeared to be growing.

Istvan Nagy, Hungary's farm minister, says that a solution was needed beyond the national level. "Joint European action and EU measures are inevitable," he said. After the bloc's executive said on Sunday that unilateral action was unacceptable, a senior EU source said EU envoys were scheduled to address Poland and Hungary's bans this week.
