"An investigation has been initiated into another war crime by the Russian army," said Ukrainian prosecutor-general Andriy Kostin.

"This is the most massive known case of the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war on the front line. It is further evidence that the murders and torture of prisoners are not an accident, but a purposeful policy of the Russian military and political leadership."

Russia has not commented on the video.

Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian parliament's commissioner for human rights, said that he has sent letters to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross reporting the alleged massacre.

"The systematic crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war must be stopped, and those responsible must be held accountable," he said.

Ukraine reveals China’s role in providing foreign technology for Russian weapons

Russian forces have begun a significant counter-offensive against Ukrainian troops who smashed their way into western Russia last month, and have taken some territory back, pro-Moscow war bloggers and a senior Russian commander said.

Ukraine on August 6 launched the biggest foreign attack on Russia since World War Two, bursting through the border into the region of Kursk with thousands of troops supported by swarms of drones and heavy weaponry, including Western-made arms.

Major General Apti Alaudinov, who commands Chechnya's Akhmat special forces who are fighting in Kursk, said that Russian forces had taken back control over about 10 settlements in Kursk, TASS reported.

"The situation is good for us," said Alaudinov, who is also deputy head of the Russian defence ministry's military-political department, adding that Russian forces had gone on the offensive.

‘Always advocated constructive dialogue,’ India on making efforts to end Ukraine conflict

Moscow on Wednesday (Aug 28) rejected Ukrainian&nbsp;President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace plan, saying it would continue with&nbsp;its&nbsp;“special military operation” in the eastern European country. Zelensky earlier said he would present his peace plan to United States&nbsp;President Joe Biden as well as his two potential successors: Vice President Kamala Harris and ex-President Donald Trump.

The Kremlin in response said they would end their operation in Ukraine only after achieving all goals.

“This is not the first time that we have heard such statements from representatives of the Kyiv regime. We are aware of the nature of this Kyiv regime,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reports Wednesday.

“We are continuing our special military operation and will achieve all of our goals,” he added.

Referring to Ukraine’s three-week-old incursion into Russia’s Kursk, Zelensky said it was part of a wider plan to force his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to come to the peace table. He added that the wider plan also included efforts on the economic and diplomatic front.

To further boost the offensive, the Ukrainian president&nbsp;is said to have asked Washington DC to allow his forces to use long-range US-supplied arms to strike deep inside Russia.

Debris fell onto industrial storage facilities in Proletarsk, causing a diesel fuel fire," Governor Vasily Golubev posted on Telegram.

"At 05:35 (0235 GMT), firefighting efforts at the industrial site in Proletarsk were paused due to a second drone strike," he mentioned in a later update.

On August 6, Kyiv launched its most significant attack on Russian soil since the Kremlin initiated its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, sending troops and armored vehicles across the border.

Ukraine destroys second key bridge in Kursk; Russia captures another Ukrainian village

New details have emerged around Ukraine’s ongoing offensive deep inside Russian territory, throwing light on the extent of unpreparedness of President Vladimir Putin’s regime. The cross-border attack, which began on August 6, caught Russian soldiers off guard and some of them were having coffee in the woods at that moment, according to an account of a Ukrainian soldier published by the Financial Times.

The soldier, identified as Volodymyr, was part of a unit operating a United States-provided Stryker armoured fighting vehicle.

He added all of them were unarmed and were quickly eliminated.

Zelensky hosted a major international summit in Switzerland earlier this month -- to which Russia was not invited -- to rally support for Ukraine's position.

"It is very important for us to show a plan to end the war that will be supported by the majority of the world," Zelensky said on Friday.

"This is the diplomatic route we are working on," he said at a press conference in Kyiv alongside Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar.

More than 90 countries sent leaders and senior officials to the two-day summit with Zelensky in Switzerland.

The vast majority of whom agreed to a final communique that stressed the need for Ukraine's "territorial integrity" to be respected in any settlement.

But some key countries that attended, like India, did not agree and others, like Russia's ally China, boycotted the summit in protest at Moscow not being invited.

Ukraine has repeatedly said Russia must pull its troops out of its internationally recognised territory, including the peninsula of Crimea that Moscow annexed in 2014, before peace talks can start.

Meanwhile Putin, who launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, is demanding Ukraine effectively capitulate by evacuating even more territory across its east and south.

Zelensky says preparing 'plan' to end war with Russia

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Saturday (May 18) said that his country would invest over 2.3 billion euros ($2.5 billion) to strengthen its eastern border, the EU's eastern flank, against potential foes.

"We have taken the decision to invest 10 billion zlotys for our security and above all to secure our eastern border," he said, calling the project an "eastern shield".&nbsp;

Poland's eastern border comprises Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

"The reinforcement of 400 kilometres (about 250 miles) of the border with Russia and Belarus will be an element of dissuasion, a strategy to push back the war at our frontiers," he said, adding that the work had not started.

Warsaw has strongly supported Kyiv since the beginning of Russia's offensive against Ukraine and has acted as a transit route for the weaponry being provided to Ukraine by its Western allies.

Warsaw has also revamped its army and raised the defence expenditure to four per cent of GDP, making it the European Union's highest percentage.

Meanwhile, Russia on Saturday said that it has captured a village in the vicinity of Kharkiv region's Vovchansk, where Moscow launched its new offensive last week.

"Units of the northern troop group liberated the village of Starytsya in the Kharkiv region, and continued to advance deep into the enemy's defences," the defence ministry said.&nbsp;

Zelensky on Thursday (May 16) said the current military situation in Kharkiv's northeastern region was "extremely difficult". However, he said it was still "under control".&nbsp;

"But the enemy is still trying to create the conditions for further advances," Voloshin warned.

On Saturday, open-source intelligence accounts and Ukraine-aligned media reported that a Russian aircraft conducting guided glide-bomb attacks in the northeastern Ukrainian city Kharkiv mistakenly released munitions on Belgorod. This city has experienced significant spillover from the ongoing conflict.

Russia has admitted to attacking parts of eastern Ukraine that it controls as well as its territory. Former interior ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko said that a guided bomb "fell right on a residential sector and exploded." Russia had launched "almost 70 guided aerial bombs against our border communities and positions at the front" the day before, according to a statement made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday.

Five persons were injured in an explosion that occurred in the city of Belgorod on Saturday, according to Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region. He stated that there were no casualties and that 30 houses and 10 automobiles had been destroyed, but he did not provide any more details on the explosion's cause.

An open and wide-ranging bilateral discussion between India and Ukraine was held on Friday (March 29), with a focus on the ongoing conflict and its wider ramifications between Russia and Ukraine.

S. Jaishankar, the Indian Minister of External Affairs, and Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, had detailed conversations during their meet up.

Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was in India for two days as part of efforts to find a diplomatic conclusion to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has lasted for more than two years.

Dmytro Kuleba said that although India and Ukraine have a history of being traditional friends, there is still a great deal of room for both countries to continue contributing to international development and security architecture.

"We have interacted at many levels in the past few months, and I'm happy to report that some of our bilateral mechanisms have also met, which has given our relationship some momentum. Following this conversation today, we're looking forward to the intergovernmental commission meeting as well," he stated, as reported by&nbsp;PTI news agency.

Addressing the media on Thursday (March 29), Kuleba stated that he hoped to talk about the peace formula for Ukraine while in New Delhi and to persuade India to take a more active role in assisting in the cessation of Russia's conflict in Ukraine.&nbsp;

"India has the potential to be a key player in uniting more countries from the Global South," Kuleba stated.

Kuleba's visit occurs one week after Russian President Vladmir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During their conversations, Modi emphasised the need of communication and diplomacy in putting an end to the conflict and pledged to support efforts towards peace.

The second anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war saw a major Russian steel factory hit by Ukrainian drones on Saturday (Feb 24). The attack happened overnight, causing a large fire. The attack, which took place in the city of Lipetsk, some 400 km (250 miles) north of the Ukrainian border, was&nbsp;confirmed by the governor of Russia's Lipetsk region,

The said Russian steel factory is responsible for 18 per cent of the country’s total output.

The governor said a fire was caused by a drone strike which was extinguished and there were no causalities. The plant is reportedly operated by Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk (NLMK).

"There is no significant impact on the plant's operations," the governor added on Saturday night.

Ukrainian forces were quoted as saying by Reuters that the attack was carried out by GUR military intelligence and the SBU security service. They also claimed that the fire caused the full evacuation of the plant, reflecting the severity of the attack.

"Raw materials from this enterprise are used to manufacture Russian missiles, artillery, and drones. Therefore, it is a legitimate goal for Ukraine," the source said, without specifying the location of the plant.
