Four vessels, including a nuclear-powered submarine Kazan and the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, entered Havana Bay early on Wednesday (June 12).

Havana is 100 miles from Key West, Florida, and the timing of the visit suggests more than standard practice, said William Leogrande, a professor at American University.

“The Russian warships visiting the region are Putin’s way of reminding Joe Biden that Moscow can challenge Washington in its own sphere of influence,” Leogrande told the AP.

Notably, the Kazan and Gorshkov are among Russia’s most modern warships, built in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

The vessels, including the tanker Pashin and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker, left their home port in Russia’s Kola peninsula in mid-May.

<h2>US Navy ‘observes’ exercises</h2>

The US military had deployed ships and planes to monitor Russia’s military exercises in the Atlantic and the Caribbean, and has been following the Russian vessels as they transited the Atlantic in recent days en route to Cuba, according to US officials.

US Navy ships that have been tracking the Russian vessels include the USS Truxtun, the USS Donald Cook, and Coast Guard vessel the USCGC Stone, the US official confirmed to CNN.

A P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance plane was also deployed along with other air assets&nbsp;to circle overhead the Russian vessels.

Two Indians recruited by the Russian Army lost their lives in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, India's foreign ministry said in a statement.

Two Indians recruited by Russian military killed in Ukraine war

Four Indian students studying in Russia drowned in the Volkhov River, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday (Jun 7), adding that a fifth student was safely rescued and was receiving medical assistance.

"Our Consulate in St. Petersburg remains in contact with the university and local authorities and is providing all possible assistance," the ministry said in a statement today.

The statement further said that so far two dead bodies were recovered from the Volkhov river and that the Indian consulate in St Petersburg was coordinating with local authorities for the repatriation of the mortal remains.

"We offer our condolences to the families. The search for the remaining two missing students continues," the external affairs ministry said. &nbsp;

The five students involved in the incident hailed from Maharashtra's Jalgaon district and were pursuing medical studies at Russia's Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University located in Veliky Novgorod region.

<h2>Indian embassy assures authorities working to send mortal remains</h2>

The Indian embassy in Moscow assured that the authorities were working to send the mortal remains of the deceased back to their relatives as soon as possible.

"We are working to send the bodies to the relatives as soon as possible. Proper treatment is also being provided to the student whose life has been saved," the Indian Embassy in Moscow said in a post on X.

Jalgaon District Collector Ayush Prasad said that the embassy in Russia and the consular general in St. Petersburg were contacted over the matter and they were providing assistance to the grieving families of the students.

"They have been very supportive to the family and we've been coordinating with the judicial as well as the police and disaster management authorities," Prasad told news agency ANI.&nbsp;

"Best medical care is being provided to the student whose life has been safe... We are hoping that the bodies will be sent back to India as per the international protocol..." he further said.

“The decision of the Western countries was quick and hasty, and it will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the course of diplomatic engagement and constructive cooperation between Iran and the opposing parties,” state TV cited Iran’s mission to the United Nations as saying.

The move comes amid an impasse over Iran’s escalating nuclear activities and as Western powers fear Tehran may be seeking to develop a nuclear weapon, a claim Iran has consistently denied.

The resolution passed with 20 votes in favour – including the United States, which initially was reluctant for fear of aggravating Middle East tensions – with 12 abstention and one country not participating, reported AFP news agency.

The censure motion aims to raise diplomatic pressure on Iran, with the option to potentially refer the issue to the UN Security Council.

Iran preemptively condemned the censure motion as lacking legal, technical, and political merit, threatening a strong response.

In the past, similar resolutions have provoked Tehran to retaliate by removing surveillance cameras and other equipment from its nuclear facilities and ratcheting up its uranium enrichment activities.

The IAEA has said that Tehran has significantly ramped up its nuclear programme and now has enough material to build several atomic bombs.

‘Strong and renewed message’

As per the IAEA, Iran is the only non-nuclear weapon state to enrich uranium to the high level of 60 percent – just short of weapons-grade – while it keeps accumulating large uranium stockpiles.

In a statement, Britain, France, and Germany (E3) emphasised the resolution's strong message backing the IAEA's efforts. They warned Iran that the international community will not tolerate actions that threaten the non-proliferation system and undermine safeguards designed to prevent nuclear proliferation.

“We hope Iran takes this chance to resolve these matters so that no further Board action is necessary.”

However, Iran has gradually broken away from its promises under the nuclear deal it struck with world powers in 2015.

Iran criticises UN nuclear watchdog resolution, calls it ‘unwise’

When questioned about targeting foreign instructors in Ukraine, the Kremlin offered no assurances.

"Any trainers who are engaged in training the Ukrainian regime will not have any immunity and It does not matter whether they are French or not," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Last week, Ukrainian army chief Oleksandr Syrsky announced that French military instructors would arrive soon in the country, however, Ukraine's defence ministry retracted the claim.

Notably, posters were seen on a bus stop outside the French embassy in Moscow on Tuesday, that read, "French, do not repeat the mistakes of your ancestors."

The poster featured a black-and-white photo of a soldier in a beret with a French tricolour on his arm, and claimed it represented a Frenchman who had fought "against Russia on the side of the Nazis".

Using AI-generated Tom Cruise impersonations, dazzling CGI, and a seemingly authentic marketing campaign to discredit the IOC, this elaborate effort aims to chip away at global enthusiasm for the Games.

Storm-1679 has also repeatedly manufactured and amplified fictionalised videos, news clips, and press statements falsely claiming that fears of terrorism have sparked a wave of ticket cancellations and property insurance purchases among Parisians.

Microsoft informed that it suspected that Russian groups were behind the circulation of forged graffiti images threatening a repeat of the 1972 Munich Olympic massacre of Israeli athletes by Palestinian militants.

The company said that it alerted satellite operators last month after detecting a “sudden close approach” by Russia’s Luch-2 to a satellite positioned in geostationary orbit.&nbsp;

The incident occurred on April 12, and Aldoria said the Russian satellite is “known for its unusual manoeuvres” and it was predicted by them before the Luch-2 even made the move.

The French start-up did not disclose if the Russian satellite might have been spying or how close it was to the object.&nbsp;

However, Aldoria told Space.com, that the minimum distance between the two objects was 10 kilometres, but as of Monday (Jun 3) about 20 to 50 kilometres apart.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Stakes are high’</h2>

The company, in a statement last month, said that the “stakes are high” and protecting public and private assets in orbit which “service fundamental economies is a necessity.”&nbsp;

“As #satelliteconstellations proliferate, so does the risk of collisions, amplifying the demand for #SpaceSituationalAwareness (#SSA) services,” it added.&nbsp;

Notably, the clip came around the time when the United States intelligence and the Pentagon had accused Russia of trying to militarise space by deploying a different military inspector satellite into the same orbit as a US government satellite.&nbsp;

During a United Nations Security Council meeting, on May 20, US Ambassador Robert Wood speaking about the Russian military satellite, Cosmos 2576 said that it was “likely a counterspace weapon presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit.”&nbsp;

However, at the time Russia dismissed the claims calling it fake news. In recent months, Washington and Moscow have repeatedly accused each other of attempting to militarise space.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The three men were formally put under investigation on Monday. Each of the coffins, as per reports, was inscribed with the words “French soldiers in the Ukraine”.&nbsp;

It is believed that the inscription is referring to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement who raised the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia. Moscow has since called the suggestion “dangerous”. Media reports citing sources suggested that Paris will soon&nbsp;send military trainers to Kyiv.&nbsp;

The French police quickly arrested the driver allegedly involved in the incident who said that he had been paid around $44 by two others to transport the coffins. He told the police he had arrived in Paris only the day before from Bulgaria.

The two others were later found at Bercy coach station in central Paris where they were reportedly planning to take a bus to Berlin.&nbsp;

The duo reportedly told the police that they had been paid around $436 to leave the coffins. The two suspects – a German and a Ukrainian – had travelled to France separately.&nbsp;

A report by French newspaper Le Monde citing a memo from the French domestic intelligence service, the DGSE, suggested the operation was coordinated by the Russian intelligence agency, FSB.&nbsp;

Le Monde citing security sources also said that the three men had been in contact with a man suspected of having sprayed red hands on the Paris Shoah Memorial, a Holocaust museum, last month.

<h2>Zelensky’s visit</h2>

The incident near the Eiffel Tower&nbsp;took place days before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was due in France for the 80th anniversary of D-day which will take place on June 6, when Allied soldiers landed in Normandy to drive out Nazi German forces during World War Two.&nbsp;

The two leaders are expected to hold talks in Paris the next day. Last week, Ukraine’s top commander said he signed paperwork allowing French military instructors to visit Ukrainian training centres soon.

Russia launched a total of 100 projectiles overnight targeting energy sites across Ukraine in a fresh salvo, the Ukrainian officials said on Saturday (June 1).

Russia has fired hundreds of missiles in its air offensive targeting Ukraine's power facilities since the war broke out, causing significant energy shortages and damage.

"The enemy launched 53 missiles of various types and 47 attack drones," the air force said, adding that it shot down 35 of the missiles and all but one of the drones.

The DTEK operator said that two thermal power plants were damaged in Moscow's assault, without mentioning details about their exact location.

"It was another extremely difficult night for the Ukrainian energy sector. The enemy struck two of our thermal power plants. The equipment was seriously damaged," the company said in a statement on Telegram.

This was the sixth major attack on DTEK thermal power plants since mid-March, the statement added.

China will not attend the Ukraine peace conference that is set to take place in Switzerland next month, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry stating that it does not meet its expectation of including both Moscow and Kyiv.

Switzerland is aiming at a broad-based turnout from several parts of the world for the summit that is due for mid-June, which Bern anticipates will do the underpinning for a peace process in Ukraine.

Russia, as per news agency Reuters reports, was not invited and dismisses the talks as meaningless without its participation.

"The arrangements for the meeting still fall far short of China's requests and the general expectations of the international community, making it difficult for China to participate," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a routine briefing.

"China has always insisted that an international peace conference should be endorsed by both Russia and Ukraine, with the equal participation of all parties, and that all peace proposals should be discussed in a fair and equal manner. Otherwise, it will be difficult for it to play a substantive role in restoring peace."

China had earlier this week, as per Reuters, declined the invitation to the summit, stating that its conditions were not met.

The conditions by Beijing included equal participation by both Russia and Ukraine and fair discussions on all proposals.

"We are very sorry that the Chinese side does not use the opportunity to present its position on the platform of the Summit in Switzerland," a spokesperson for the Ukrainian embassy in Beijing was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov put forward a suggestion on Thursday stating that China could arrange a peace conference in which Moscow and Kyiv could participate.

This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China where he said that Ukraine may take the opportunity to get a broader group of countries to back Volodymyr Zelensky's demand for a total Russian withdrawal at the Swiss talks.

Putin during his visit to China also expressed support for Beijing's strategy for a peaceful settlement of the ongoing conflict stating that China had a complete understanding of what lay behind the crisis.

The Swiss foreign ministry said it noted the conditions for China's participation have not yet been met, particularly as Russia is "currently not involved" in the peace conference.

"For Switzerland, Russia's involvement in the peace process is also essential. The (ministry) it is working actively to involve Russia in the peace process," it added.

The Swiss ministry, which previously highlighted its desire to involve Russia in the peace process, said over 80 countries had shared their confirmation for taking part in the conference.

But it is limited to the area around Kharkiv, and Ukraine has not requested permission beyond that, the official said, adding that they do not anticipate the US widening the area allowed.

As what Russia does has changed in terms of how it is pursuing its aggression escalation, we’ve adapted and adjusted too. And I am confident we will continue to do that,” he said when asked about the possibility of allowing Ukraine to strike Russian soil.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday (May 28) that the West could face serious consequences if it allowed Ukraine to use their weapons to strike targets in Russia, as sought by Kyiv.&nbsp;

The warning came as French President Emmanuel Macron said Kyiv should be allowed to "neutralise" Russian military bases from where Kremlin troops are firing missiles into Ukraine, and as President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the world not to tire of the war.&nbsp;

Putin's comments came after some NATO members as well as the alliance's chief, Jens Stoltenberg called to allow Ukraine to use their arms to step up attacks on Russian soil, after more than two years of war.&nbsp;

"This constant escalation can lead to serious consequences," Putin said during a visit to Uzbekistan.&nbsp;

"The small European countries should be aware of what they are playing with," the Russian leader said, noting that many European countries had small territories and a dense population.

"They should consider this factor seriously before discussing strikes deep into Russian territory," he stated.

Putin further warned that even if Ukraine's forces carried out the strikes, responsibility for them would lie with Western suppliers of the weapons.

Putin also said that while he believed Western military instructors were already in Ukraine operating undercover as mercenaries, any move by countries to send them officially would be another "escalation" and "another step towards a serious conflict in Europe, towards a global conflict". &nbsp;

Notably, Ukraine's top commander announced on Monday (May 27) that talks were being held with France on sending military instructors to the country.

Putin warned that "we will take whatever actions we deem necessary, regardless of who is present on Ukrainian territory."

After a meeting of EU defence ministers in Brussels, EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said that European countries remained split on sending military instructors to Ukraine.

<h2 class="MsoNormal">Zelensky urges West</h2>

During a European tour aimed at maintaining the flow of arms and support to his embattled country, Zelensky urged the world not to grow weary of the war, warning that fatigue would benefit Russia.

"It is very important for Ukrainians that the world does not get tired... and it cannot get tired of the war launched by the aggressor," Zelensky said in Portugal during a tour of several European capitals.

The legislation was first adopted on May 14 but was vetoed by the country's president.

<h2>What is the legislation about?</h2>

The so-called “foreign agents” law now requires organisations, including media outlets, nonprofits and other non-governmental organisations receiving more than 20 per cent of their funding from abroad to register as bodies “pursuing the interests of a foreign power.”&nbsp;

It is also worth noting that despite the ruling party’s anti-Western rhetoric, they want the country to join the 27-nation bloc as well as NATO. A report by Reuters citing a poll also said that Georgia’s 3.7 million people back EU accession.&nbsp;

Over the years, Russia, which occupies about 20 per cent of Georgia’s internationally recognised territory, has used similar legislation to crack down on NGOs and independent news media who are critical of the Kremlin.&nbsp;

However, the EU and international rights groups disagree. Several groups have decried the law as undemocratic, while the 27-nation bloc has indicated it is not compatible with membership of the EU.&nbsp;

<h2>Mass protests, student walkout on May 13-14</h2>

Since April, thousands of Georgians have staged near-nightly protests against the proposed bill. On May 13, hundreds of university students in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi walked out of classes and joined thousands of protesters opposing the bill.&nbsp;

Riot police in the country armed with water cannons and teargas have been accused of beating protesters who picketed outside Georgia’s parliament, on Monday (May 13) morning to try and stop a final vote.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On May 12, several thousand protesters staged an all-night rally outside parliament but failed to prevent lawmakers from entering the parliament after the MPs managed to access the building from the back and pushed the bill through a parliamentary legal committee in less than two minutes.&nbsp;

The critics of the bill and many protesters, as per AFP, said that they see the bill as a symbol of their government’s wider drift towards Russia.&nbsp;

Georgia’s Interior Ministry said that at least 20 people, including two American citizens and one Russian national, were detained during the rallies, earlier this month.&nbsp;

The country’s Special Investigation Service, which investigates allegations of police brutality said they&nbsp;have opened a case into claims of use of excessive force by police personnel&nbsp;during the protests on May 13 and 14.&nbsp;

<h2>Criticism at home and abroad</h2>

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, on May 13 vowed to&nbsp;pass the bill claiming that the law enjoyed wide support in the country.&nbsp;

However, mass protests continued on Tuesday (May 28) exactly two weeks after the bill was first adopted. The crowd gathered outside the parliament&nbsp;was shouting&nbsp;“Russian slaves!” during the vote.&nbsp;

Leader of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, Tina Bokuchava,&nbsp;called on the opposition parties to rally together to rescind the legislation before the elections after the presidential veto was overturned.&nbsp;

Bokuchava also voiced her concerns about the upcoming elections saying&nbsp;that the law could be used by authorities to throw a shroud over the election process.

"Georgian Dream understands that it would lose power should the elections be free and fair, and Georgia's vibrant civil sector can act against electoral violations," said the UNM leader as quoted by AFP.&nbsp;

Parliamentary elections in the country are scheduled to be held on October 26.&nbsp;

Less than 10 days after the legislation was first passed,&nbsp;the United States announced travel sanctions against Georgian officials “who are responsible for or complicit in undermining democracy in Georgia.” The move has since been criticised by Tbilisi.&nbsp;

EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said that he “deeply regrets” the Georgian parliament’s adoption of the controversial legislation, on Tuesday (May 28)&nbsp;and warned that it would affect the country’s efforts to join the 27-nation bloc.&nbsp;

The US&nbsp;State Department spokesman Matthew Miller after the presidential veto was overridden called the bill "anti-democratic" and said&nbsp;that it "fails to conform to European norms." He added,&nbsp;"The United States condemns this action."&nbsp;

After the legislation was adopted, ministers from European nations and the three Baltic countries, in separate statements, also&nbsp;criticised the decision.

Poland on Monday (May 28) announced that it would restrict the movement of Russian diplomats in the country as a part of a security measure.

The decision comes after Poland apprehended several people who were allegedly orchestrating sabotage attacks on behalf of Russian security services.

The latest measures would curb the movement of consular staff to the Warsaw region, however, it will not have any impact on the Russian ambassador, Sergei Andreyev.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that his country was not the first one to impose such restrictions, further adding that he hoped more countries would join the list.

"I just announced a Polish decision in connection to Russia's participation in hybrid warfare against the European Union, including Poland: a restriction of movement for Russian diplomats in our country," he told reporters in Brussels after meeting with his EU counterparts.

Sikorski, in his announcement, stated that he hoped Russia would take the curbs as a "very serious warning signal".&nbsp;

"These are national decisions, but we have evidence that the Russian state is involved in authorizing sabotage in our country as well. We hope that the Russian Federation will treat this as a very serious warning," he added.

Poland to restrict Russian diplomats' movement, Moscow warns of 'retaliatory measures'

Spain on Monday (May 27) pledged to provide military aid to Ukraine worth 1 billion euros ($1.08 billion) in 2024 under a security deal signed between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Madrid.

The deal "includes a commitment for one billion euros in military aid for 2024," Sanchez told a joint press conference.

"It will allow Ukraine to boost its capabilities including its essential air defence systems to protect its civilians, cities and infrastructure which are still suffering indiscriminate attacks as seen this weekend in Kharkiv," he said, referring to a Russian strike on the northeastern city that killed at least 16 people.

Zelensky's visit comes as Ukraine battles Russia's ground offensive in the Kharkiv region which started on May 10.

Sanchez stated that Spain had already vowed to provide Ukraine with Patriot missiles, however, what Zelensky needed from Ukraine's allies was "the systems to launch these missiles".

"That's what he working on with different allies to see exactly how many we can send to guarantee this aerial security."

Spain would also send "another batch of Leopard tanks and above all ammunition," Sanchez said, pledging to keep working with Kyiv "to understand how else -- and with what other alternative systems -- we can help ensure Ukraine's air security."

Sanchez, elucidating on the security deal said that it would cover several issues from "military, humanitarian and financial support, to collaboration between Spanish and Ukrainian defence industries, as well as help with reconstruction and de-mining among other things". &nbsp;&nbsp;

“As we see in the case of Ukraine, there is a constant race between the adversaries to develop technology, and new ways to use drones are continually being found in warfare,” Laanemets said as quoted by The Baltic Times.

<h2>Why now?&nbsp;</h2>

Last year, several European countries, including Finland and Poland, which share a border with Russia accused Moscow of pushing its migrants to destabilise the nations and engage in “hybrid warfare”.&nbsp;

Hybrid attacks deploy non-military measures that tend to have an element of deniability, a method that Russia has been accused of using in European nations. Moscow has repeatedly denied these claims.&nbsp;

Earlier this month, the United States-led alliance issued a sharp warning over “hostile” Russian activity across Europe and called it a threat to Western security.&nbsp;

She added, “It was good that my phone lit up, thanks to the flashlight I found where to go, but in front of us everything was burning already.”

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said around 120 people had been in the hardware store when the bombs struck.&nbsp;

“The attack targeted the shopping centre, where there were many people – this is clearly terrorism,” said Terekhov.&nbsp;

A report by Russian state news agency TASS citing a security source claimed that the missile strike destroyed a “military store and command post” inside the shopping centre.

The missile, according to Reuters, also left a crater several metres deep in the pavement at the foot of the building, which also had a post office, a beauty salon and a cafe.&nbsp;

While Ukrainian attacks on Saturday in Russia’s Belgorod which is close to the Ukrainian border killed at least four&nbsp;people, said regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.&nbsp;

Gladkov took to Telegram and said three people were killed in the village of Oktyabrsky in a multiple rocket attack and one man died after being taken to a hospital.

The two shelling incidents, according to the Russian official, also left 12 people injured.&nbsp;

Putin says nuclear drills are not an escalation, questions Zelensky's legitimacy as Ukraine's leader

The deputy chief of the Russian army's General Staff was arrested after being accused of taking bribe, investigators said on Thursday (May 23).

Lieutenant-General Vadim Shamarin was accused of taking bribe&nbsp;from a factory that manufactured communications equipment, in exchange for awarding the firm with bigger state contracts, said Russia's Investigative Committee.

It claimed that Shamarin had received at least $360,000 (or 36 million roubles) in return.

The military official has been placed in pre-trial detention for two months and if found guilty, will face a jail term of up to 15 years.

Shamarin's arrest is the fourth detention to take place in a month. Earlier, Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov was on April 23 placed in pre-trial detention for allegedly accepting bribe.

Following the incident, Lieutenant-General Yuri Kuznetsov, head of personnel at the defence ministry, and Major-General Ivan Popov, former commander of Russia's 58th army have also been arrested over alleged corruption charges.

The Kremlin played down Shamarin's arrest and denied that it was carrying out a purge of the military's top brass.&nbsp;

"The fight against corruption is consistent work," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. "It is not a campaign, it is constantly ongoing work."

Several Russian military bloggers welcomed his arrest stating that it was communications breakdowns that led to Russia's military failures in Ukraine.

Officials also discussed the progress of India's largest Nuclear power project at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu, of which two 1000Megawatt reactors are already operational and four more of 1000Megawatt capacity are in various stages of construction.

The development and operationalisation of the Kudankulam Nuclear power generating facility is the flagship project of the Russian-Indian technological and power industry cooperation, with Rosatom State Corporation providing fuel to the power units of Kudankulam NPP throughout their entire life cycle.

The 'Proryv' project is focused on the creation of a new technological platform for the nuclear industry with the closed nuclear fuel cycle and resolving the problems of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. Simply put, the closed nuclear cycle means that the spent nuclear fuel(from which power has been generated in the reactor) can be re-processed and partially re-used. Every year during spring, the greater spotted eagles make their way all the way from Greece and Sudd in South Sudan to their breeding grounds in Belarus. The females travel from Greece while the males travel from sites in east Africa.&nbsp;

The study published on Monday (May 20) was based on the data collected and analysed from 19 tagged birds as they flew through Ukraine to breeding grounds in southern Belarus in March and April 2022, weeks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.&nbsp;

“The war in Ukraine has had a devastating impact on people and the environment. Our findings provide a rare window into how conflicts affect wildlife, improving our understanding of the potential impacts of exposure to such events or other extreme human activities that are difficult to predict or monitor,” said lead author Charlie Russell, in a statement.&nbsp;

Russell also noted how these disturbances also significantly impact the behaviour, and also potentially affect the fitness of the eagles. “For individuals breeding in these areas, or other species that are less able to respond to disturbance, the impacts are likely to be much greater,” the lead author added.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the researchers find?</h2>

The data collected during the war was compared with that recorded from 20 birds between 2018 and 2021.

The researchers found that the birds flew further and less directly to breeding grounds travelling as much as 85 kilometres extra on an average. The journey also took 55 hours longer, on average after the war started.&nbsp;

According to the study, fewer birds were stopped in Ukraine before returning to their breeding grounds.&nbsp;

Out of 19 birds, only six took breaks, according to the latest data when compared to 18 out of 20 in 2018-21 while some important stopover sites in Ukrainian Polesia were not used at all in 2022.

The drills are designed to test “the readiness of personnel and equipment of non-strategic nuclear weapons combat units to respond and to unconditionally ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Russian state,” said the Russian defence ministry.&nbsp;

It added that they were a “response to provocative statements and threats by certain Western officials.”&nbsp;

The ministry also said that the first stage of the drills involved Iskander and Kinzhal missiles. The exercise also involves Belarus, where Russia said that it had deployed tactical nuclear weapons last year, a development that both Minsk and Moscow confirmed.&nbsp;

Russian officials pointed to statements by the French president about NATO countries not ruling out the possibility of deploying troops to Ukraine as well as a statement by British Foreign Minister David Cameron who said Kyiv had the right to use weapons provided by the United Kingdom to strike targets inside the Russian territory.

Meanwhile, the Russian foreign ministry said that the two diplomats also exchanged views on “various pressing issues” including the Middle East “peace process”, developments in the Red Sea region and the situation on the Korean peninsula.&nbsp;

China and Russia are the founding members of the SCO, a Eurasian political, economic, international security and defence organisation set up in 2001. India and Pakistan officially joined the grouping in 2017, and Iran became a full member just last year.

The Chinese president recently hosted his Russian counterpart during his state visit to China where Xi said the China-Russia ties are “conducive to peace,” while, in a similar statement, Putin stated that the ties between the two nations are ‘stabilising” for the world.
