<p>When United Kingdom's Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak gave his resignation speech on a sombre day outside 10 Downing Street after disastrously losing the snap elections, his wife Akshata Murty stood behind holding an umbrella and wearing a dress that many found 'awful'.</p>

<p>Murty was wearing an Indian label dress which cost more than Rs 42,000 ($503.13). Interestingly, the dress contained all the colours of Britain’s national flag - which are blue, red and white stripes. Soon, the dress became viral as netizens found it very amusing.</p>

<p>The internet users said that the dress had arrows pointing down and the bottom section was red which appeared like a metaphor to indicate how the Conservative Party has slumped in the 2024 general election after losing to the Labour Party.</p>

<p>Rishi Sunak is an Indian origin politician who happens to be the youngest leader in the modern British history.</p>

<p>He was born in 1980 in Southampton, to Yashvir and Usha Sunak, Hindu people of Punjabi Indian descent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sunak married Akshata Murty, the daughter of billionaire N. R. Narayana Murthy, the founder of the Indian multinational IT company Infosys, in August 2009. They have two daughters.</p>

<p>Rishi Sunak began his career working as an analyst for investment firm Goldman Sachs in 2001. Between 2001 and 2015, he worked with multiple financial companies and was also a director of the investment firm Catamaran Ventures, a company owned by his father-in-law N. R. Narayana Murthy.</p>

<h2><strong>Rishi Sunak: Political Career</strong></h2>

<p>In October 2014, Rishi Sunak was selected as the Conservative candidate for Richmond (Yorks). He was elected as an MP for the constituency in the 2015 UK General Elections. He was re-elected in 2017.</p>

<p>He went on to serve in a junior ministerial position — Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government — in Theresa May's second government. Sunak was selected for the task in the 2018 cabinet reshuffle. May resigned in early 2019.</p>

<p>Sunak was then appointed chief secretary to the Treasury by the next Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. He served under Chancellor Sajid Javid and also became a member of the Privy Council.</p>

<p>In February 2020, Boris Johnson's first cabinet shuffle happened and Sunak became the chancellor after Javid resigned.</p>

<p>After a series of damning scandals the government faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, on 5 July 2022, Sunak resigned. He was succeeded as chancellor by Nadhim Zahawi.</p>

<p>Soon after, on 8 July 2022, he announced his bid to replace Boris Johnson as party leader. He lost this bid and Liz Truss became the PM, however, her premiership didn't even last two months (6 September 2022–25 October 2022).</p>
