<p>The Indian Air Force dropped over 11 tonnes of relief materials at 12 different places in Thoothukudi district on Saturday on its fifth day of continued Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in the southern Tamil Nadu city, which was hit by heavy rain on December 18 and 19.</p>

<p>Southern Air Command Indian Air Force posted on 'X', "On the fifth day of continued HADR operations in south Tamil Nadu, affected by landslides and floods, IAF MI-17 V5 and ALH-Dhruv air-dropped over 11 tons of relief materials in 12 different places in Thoothkudi District. This aggregates to an airdrop of 59 tonnes of relief material."</p>

<p>Srivaikuntam dam was overflowing in Thoothukudi district due to rainfall in the catchment areas of the Thamirabarani River on Saturday.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena inspected rain and flood-affected areas in the Antoniapuram area of Thoothukudi district on Saturday.<br />

A holiday was announced for all the schools and colleges in Thoothukudi district on Thursday after heavy rains continued to pound the regions in southern Tamil Nadu, creating a flood-like situation and throwing life out of gear.</p>

<p>Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that the state government has taken all possible precautions and measures for the welfare of the people in the wake of the situation.</p>

<p>"Heavy rainfall was received in Chennai and surrounding districts. In history, we have never seen this much rainfall in the Thoothukudi district. For rescue operations, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed," CM Stalin said.</p>

<p>He further said that as many as 12,653 people have been rescued and are staying at the 14 relief camps.</p>

<p>"I have advised district collectors and the official to immediately provide food and other needful items to those who were staying in relief camps," he added.</p>

<p>The CM further said that he has requested excess money for the southern districts of the state from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.</p>

<p>Earlier, Indian Navy personnel distributed food and other relief materials at Srivaikundam railway station in Thoothukudi on December 19.</p>

<p>Heavy rain wreaked havoc in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari in the past days. The state government and the Centre have jointly mobilised a massive rescue and relief operation to help the affected people.</p>

<p>On Monday (Nov 6), as per India's National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude struck Nepal, and its ripples were felt across northern India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the earthquake was recorded in Nepal at 4.14 pm (local time) around the same location where a 6.4 magnitude struck on Friday (Nov 3), killing at least 153 people in the Himalayan country.</p>

<p>Jajarkot, in Karnali province, was one of the worst-hit areas in Friday's earthquake.</p>

<p>The first earthquake this week occurred with a magnitude of 6.4, Nepal's National Seismological Centre said. The German Research Centre for Geosciences measured the quake at 5.7, downgrading it from 6.2, while the US Geological Survey pegged it at 5.6.</p>

<p>Officials fear that the death toll in Friday's earthquake in Jajarkot could rise, as they had not been able to establish contact in the hilly area near the epicentre, some 500 km (300 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu. The district has a population of 190,000 with villages scattered in remote hills.</p>

<p>Nepal is situated on the boundary of two tectonic plates — the Asian and Indo-Australian plates. The collision of these two plates caused the Himalayas to rise up, with Tibet at its southern edge.</p>

<p>"An Indian Air Force C130 J flight carrying 47 passengers has landed in India. With this arrival, 3862 persons have been moved out of Sudan through #OperationKaveri," Jaishankar had said.&nbsp;The EAM also appreciated nations for helping New Delhi in its operations to evacuate its citizens with safely.&nbsp;</p>

Indian Air Force assists conflict-ridden Sudan with 24,000 kg relief material

<p><meta name="uuid" content="uuidbJIvTVUcv9Gm" /><meta charset="utf-8" />If reports are to be believed, the Pakistani government has repackaged the aid it had received from Turkey during the 2022 floods and delivered it back as earthquake relief material to the disaster-struck country.&nbsp;The Turkish authorities, upon opening the relief material found it had the&nbsp;message they had written for the Pakistani flood victims last year.&nbsp;The Turkish relief material was delivered to Sindh, a southwestern region of Pakistan which was one of the worst-hit areas due to the flood,&nbsp;according to Pakistani media reports. It appears, the same package was repurposed, repackaged and delivered to Ankara.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The consulate general has reportedly raised the matter in front of Pakistan's External Affairs Ministry after not being overly impressed.&nbsp;</p>

It appears, the same package was repurposed, repackaged and delivered to Ankara.
