A government scientific adviser, Dr Mike Tildesley, from the University of Warwick has termed the Omicron variant as "the first ray of light” amid the pandemic. The member of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Modelling group (Spi-M) said that there might hopefully be a shift in the pandemic by spring. As per the adviser, Omicron can be seen as an indication of less severe variants in the future.

While speaking to the Times Radio, he said, "The thing that might happen in the future is you may see the emergence of a new variant that is less severe, and ultimately, in the long term, what happens is Covid becomes endemic and you have a less severe version. It’s very similar to the common cold that we’ve lived with for many years."

He further added, "We’re not quite there yet but possibly Omicron is the first ray of light there that suggests that may happen in the longer term. It is, of course, much more transmissible than Delta was, which is concerning, but much less severe."

On the other hand, a report by Forbes states that the early data suggests that the Omicron variant could be up to 3 times more infectious than delta and children being more vulnerable to infection.&nbsp;

This comes in at a time when hospitalisation rates among children are soaring unprecedently.

According to the latest CDC data, an average of 672 children were admitted to hospitals due to Covid each day last week. This has become a worrying trend among the experts and they believe that the hospitalisations are triggered by low vaccination rates and the very easily transmissible omicron variant.&nbsp;

The third Asian Contents Awards (ACA) is run by the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)`s Asian Contents and Film Market (ACFM). The ACA aims to showcase outstanding TV, OTT, and online content from Asia.

'Ray' - an anthology on Netflix- attempts to recreate four of the auteur's short stories into films. The essence of the stories remain the same but is adapted to suit the current generation.&nbsp;

In Srijit Mukherji's 'Forget Me Not', a successful entrepreneur's life comes to a standstill when he meets a mysterious woman one night who claims to have spent a weekend with him at the Ajanta caves. He has no recollection, even though people around him corroborate the facts given by her. A human-computer, successful at his job- he is perturbed because he starts forgetting things.&nbsp;

Mukherji also directs 'Bahrupiya', a story about a timid makeup artist who has nothing going for him in life. His boss is dissatisfied with his work, the woman he loves doesn't reciprocate and the only thing he is proud of is his skills at transforming faces. As he starts honing his skills, he often fools people around him with unrecognisable get-ups. While it's all fun initially, things start taking a twisted turn when he encounters a face reader.&nbsp;

Abhishek Chaubey's 'Hungama Hai Kyu Barpa' has a popular Ghazal singer embarking on a train journey in the first-class coup with a former wrestler now a journalist. The journalist feels the two have met before while the singer can't recall. As the journey progresses, the revelation about their pasts leads to a hilarious climax.&nbsp;

Vasan Bala directs 'Spotlight' a story of a film crew shooting outdoors with a popular star who has masterfully disguised his inabilities to emote on screen and termed it as the 'look'. His stardom and popularity are threatened when a god woman and her entourage descend upon the same hotel where the film is being shot and there is a tussle between the Godwomen's aides and the actor to get the best room in the hotel.&nbsp;

Spruced with complicated, quirky characters, 'Ray' narrates four distinct stories of flawed men. The only commonality between all four stories is how weirdly the human psyche works- which is the underline theme of all the short stories.&nbsp;

Adapted to suit the Netflix audience, the characters are dark and plots deliciously mysterious- each taking time to unravel and making for an engaging watch.&nbsp;

The best of the lot is, though, Abhishek Chaubey's film which features the man of the moment, Manoj Bajpayee playing one of the softest characters of his career. It is a delight to watch Bajpayee play Musafir Ali- a ghazal singer who smiles more than he speaks. A stark contrast from the special agent he just played in the web series 'The Family Man'- Bajpayee's performance brings an instant smile to your face. Giving him company is Gajraj Rao who matches Bajapayee in every scene with his credible performance. Such joy to watch two gifted actors weave magic on screen!

Mukherji's two dark, very twisted tales also has credible performances from its leads. Actor Kay Kay Menon gets to sink his teeth playing a complicated, dark character in 'Bahrupiya'. Menon balances the character's myriad moods and avatars well. Menon is pitch-perfect playing a meek make-up man who transforms into a self conceited artist in 'Bahrupiya'. Meanwhile, Ali Fazal plays the sharp corporate honcho to the hilt. He is the new age man, who has worked hard to create a perfect life for himself but finds himself fumbling when he realises that he is forgetting things.&nbsp;

While 'Bahrupiya' has more dark undertones and hence has more scope for acting for Menon, Fazal too manages to own the screen in 'Forget Me Not'. The writing is better in 'Bahrupiya' while 'Forget Me Not' gets slightly convoluted by the end.&nbsp;

The weakest in the anthology series is Vasan Bala's 'Spotlight' - not only for its writing but also for its underwhelming performance by the lead- Harshvardhan Kapoor. When one is in a series with stalwarts like Bajpayee, Menon and Rao- comparisons are bound to happen. And while Fazal, also relatively new, manages to hold his own and carry his part of the film well on his shoulder, Kapoor fumbles from the word go. Clever casting aside- Kapoor plays an actor who has limited expressions- the story also doesn't unravel as gloriously as the other three. Bala, though uses, some very obvious Satyajit Ray references in the film, which are fun to spot.&nbsp;

'Ray', a new anthology on Netflix narrates four stories based on Satyajit Ray's short stories. Filmmakers Srijit Mukherji, Vasan Bala and Sayantan Mukherjee speak to WION about 'Ray', their first memories of Satyajit Ray's work and why the legendary filmmaker remains relevant 100 years on.

The year 2021 marks as the centenary year of maestro Satyajit Ray. And Netflix is providing a perfect tribute to the filmmaker. The trailer of 'Ray' an anthology based on stories by the late maestro was released on Tuesday and it narrates four intriguing tales.&nbsp;

The stories are titled 'Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa', 'Forget Me Not', 'Bahrupiya' and 'Spotlight'. Two of the stories are directed by Srijit Mukherji, while Abhishek Chaubey and Vasan Bala helm one each.&nbsp; 
 
The ensemble cast includes Manoj Bajpayee, Gajraj Rao, Shweta Basu Prasad, Ali Fazal, Anindita Bose, Kay Kay Menon, Bidita Bag, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Harshvarrdhan Kapoor, Radhika Madan and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. 
 
Talking about his segment 'Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa' which features Manoh Bajpayee and Gajraj Rao in the lead, Abhishek Chaubey said, "I`m drawn to stories that twist with whimsy and humour. Hardly anyone crafts those better than Satyajit Ray and a chance to tell this story is a great opportunity for me. With Manoj Bajpayee and Gajraj Rao playing off each other on screen, 'Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa', I hope is as much of a joy to watch as it was to make. Super stoked about the show and can`t wait for people to watch it!" 
 
Srijit Mukherji who has in the recent past directed 'Feluda Pherot' based on Ray`s Feluda adventures in Bangla directs two parts in the anthology- 'Forget Me Not' and 'Bahrupiya'.

After faithfully bringing two stories of Ray to life in 'Feluda Pherot', it is an honour and fulfilling to reinterpret two more stories of Ray in a decidedly darker space," said Mukherji, adding that he got the opportunity to work with a brilliant cast including Kay Kay Menon, Sweta Basu Prasad and Ali Fazal.
