A shocking forensic report has revealed that a watermelon consumed by a family of four in Mumbai before their deaths contained zinc phosphide — a highly toxic rat poison.

The victims, including a couple and their two daughters, were found dead inside their South Mumbai home hours after hosting a family dinner. Investigators say the poison may have been deliberately introduced into the fruit, raising serious questions about whether the case involves murder, suicide, or accidental contamination.

A 14-year-old girl with a movement disorder, general dystonia, died in southern Puducherry state after allegedly consuming rat poison mistaking it for a chocolate cake.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon after the girl, R Saloth Nithikshina, complained of nausea and vomiting. When her mother, Mary, enquired, Nithikshina said that she ate the “cake” kept at the window.

A ‘shocked’ Mary told her daughter that the cake she ate was, in fact, rat poison, following which the girl was immediately rushed to a state-run hospital in Kottuchery.

After administering first aid, the girl was later taken to a bigger hospital in Karaikal where she was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. But despite their best efforts, the doctors couldn’t save her.

The police have registered a case under section 174 (police to enquire and report on suspicious death) of the Criminal Procedure Code and began thier investigation, according to the Times of India newspaper.

The girl was staying at home after she discontinued her studies two years ago due to being diagnosed with general dystonia, police said.

A similar incident had taken place in western Mumbai city last month, where a 24-year-old woman died after mistakenly eating rat poison instead of medicine for stomach ache.

The incident took place on August 13 at 9 pm. Deceased Kajol Pawar, who lived in Sakinaka area of Andheri (East), had rang up her mother over and told her about her stomach ache.

She informed her that she had mistakenly consumed rat poison instead of medicine, and asked for help.

According to reports, a man was sentenced to six months in prison for releasing rats in his workplace.

The man who reportedly belongs to Ireland committed the offence allegedly after differences with an employee over a long period of time.

The man, John O'Neill, had placed two rats in the office.&nbsp;After employees arrived the next day they found rat excrement. Officials detected O'Neill's handiwork after CCTV cameras picked him up entering the building with items covered in his jacket.

Two unidentified men have allegedly mixed rat poison in the water supply of a madrassa in Aligarh, the Times of India reported Monday.&nbsp;

The Madrassa Chacha Nehru is run by the Al Noor Charitable Society which is headed by former vice president Hamid Ansari&#39;s wife, Salma.&nbsp;

Two&nbsp;FIRs have been registered under IPC sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 506 (criminal intimidation).&nbsp;

Aligarh senior superintendent of police Rajesh Pandey said the police had collected samples of the water for examining.

The TOI reported madrassa warden Junaid Siddiqui as saying the miscreants were spotted&nbsp;by a student.&nbsp;

The student saw two men mixing some tablets in a water tank.

When he asked them what they were doing, one of them told him to keep quiet.

Siddiqui said the other was carrying a country-made pistol.&nbsp;

The student later found a rat poison wrapper, allegedly left behind by the duo, which he handed over to the warden.&nbsp;

The madrassa&#39;s students were immediately alerted and directed to a different water source, Siddiqui told TOI.&nbsp;

There are some 4,000 students enrolled with the madrassa.&nbsp;

TOI reported Salma Ansari as saying the incident was &quot;shocking and scary&quot;.&nbsp;
