One of the most shocking revelations in the #MeToo movement is Rajkumar Hirani's name. The director of blockbusters like 'Munna Bhai series', 'PK, and '3 Idiots' has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman over a period of 6 months while filming 'Sanju'. &nbsp;The woman has alleged that the assaults happened between March and September 2018.&nbsp;

The filmmaker though has rubbished the allegations and said in a statement, "I was completely shocked when these allegations were brought to my notice about two months back. I had suggested immediately that it is essential to take this matter to any committee or legal body. The complainant has chosen to go to the media instead. I want to very strongly state that this is a false malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation."

While a committee has been set up to investigate the matter at Vidhu Vinod Chopra's production house, the allegations have had a direct affect on Hirani's work. According to media reports, work on 'Munna Bhai 3' has been put on hold till Hirani is given a clean chit.&nbsp;

A source told the tabloid, "In a meeting in late December, it was decided that Fox would pull the plug on 'Munna Bhai 3' if Hirani was found guilty. The studio stands in solidarity with the survivor. VVC Films too has taken the matter seriously, and dropped Hirani's name from the promotional material of 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga'."

"An ICC set up by VVC Films will investigate the matter. Munna Bhai 3, however, by default, is on hold till Hirani gets a clean chit," the source added.

Only a few weeks back Arshad Warsi, who played Circuit in the two films in the franchise, had confirmed that a sequel was being planned and it was in initial scripting stage.&nbsp;

Chopra's wife, film critic Anupama, who is a director at Vinod Chopra Films Pvt Ltd, "Sanju" scriptwriter Abhijat Joshi and filmmaker Shelly Chopra, Vidhu Vinod's sister, were also marked on the email.

The complainant later said to HuffPost India that she was "intimidated by Hirani", who was her reporting person at the time.&nbsp;

She said she maintained a facade of normalcy regarding Hirani's behaviour as she needed to hold on to her job as her father was suffering from a terminal illness.

"I had no choice but to be polite to him. It was unbearable but the reason I endured it all, until I couldn't, was because I didn't want my job to be taken away from me, and work to be questioned. Ever."

"I was worried that if I left midway, it would be impossible to find another job in this industry if he were to speak badly about my work. Because if Hirani said I wasn't good, everybody would listen. My future would be in jeopardy," she said.

Anupama Chopra had confirmed that the woman had shared an account with her and that Vinod Chopra Films (VCF) has since set up a committee to address complaints of sexual harassment.

"I have offered my full support and recommended that she take the complaint to a legal body or a neutral party since we cannot be arbitrators or judges on this. "We also offered to set up an ICC at VCF (which we have set up since then) even though a VCF ICC could not have taken up the case since she was an RHF (Rajkumar Hirani Films) employee at the time. These are two separate companies," she said in an email dated December 5, 2018.

Anupama said the woman told her she needed time to think about how to take things forward.

She added, "I did not want in any way to pressurise her or steer her in any direction. As Vinod and I told her then, she has our full support and we are fully respectful of whatever decision she has taken."

The development comes close on the heels of Hirani's name been dropped from the new poster and trailer of "Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga", directed by Shelly Chopra.

A still from the film's teaser, which released on 27 June, 2018, carried Hirani's name as co-producer. Vidhu Vinod Chopra has not yet commented.&nbsp;

Hirani's is the latest name to be called out in India's #MeToo storm, which has engulfed many a stalwart such as Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl, Sajid Khan and former Union minister MJ Akbar, among others.&nbsp;

#MeToo: Rajkumar Hirani accused of sexual assault, film-maker denies allegation

Bollywood box office king Rajkumar Hirani believes a new golden age is dawning for the Indian movie industry as filmmakers look outside the box to tell more varied stories.

"Before there was a belief that you had to have songs," said Hirani, the man behind a string of Bollywood hits including the global sensation '3 Idiots'.

"Now people are completely experimenting with the subject matter," says Hirani.

Even those directors who continue to include songs are also exploring "much darker themes" -- and still enjoying massive box office success, he said.

A case in point is 55-year-old Hirani's latest offering, 'Sanju', which the director has brought to this year's 23rd Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, the largest of its kind in Asia.

'Sanju'&nbsp;is based on the real-life story of the rise and fall of Indian star Sanjay Dutt, who was born into Bollywood royalty but was jailed after being accused of involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks of 1993.

The director admits the project was a risk given the often grim nature of the story, which includes gritty scenes of drug taking and its lead character's descent into depression.

But the strong box office returns have convinced him that audiences want a wider range of options from Hindi language films.

'Sanju'&nbsp;has so far grossed $80 million, placing it third on Bollywood's all-time global earners' list, according to The Times of India newspaper.

"It's very much a human interest story about battling your demons," said Hirani. "It's a very different kind of film that I have done before.

"While I was making it everybody thought it was a mistake."

But Hirani said he was more confident the film might succeed after seeing the reaction of Dutt, who was released from jail in 2016, at a preview screening.

"He saw it three days before its release and I was watching him," said Hirani. "He was crying and after that, he sat at home and drank for three days, so I knew it had worked."&nbsp;

As a director and producer Hirani has reaped box office gold with a diverse range of films, from comedies including '3 Idiots'&nbsp;(2009) and alien-on-earth hit 'PK'&nbsp;(2014), to the sports drama 'Final Round'&nbsp;(2016) and now on to 'Sanju'.

Experts say the Indian film industry is on track for record earnings in 2018, after surpassing last year's $2.1 billion marks by the end of the first quarter.

Across all languages, India now produces more than 1,000 movies a year –- several hundred more than coming out of Hollywood.

Increasingly these films are finding a global audience.

Hirani's '3 Idiots'&nbsp;–- the tale of three friends struggling with the pressures of getting an education -- was a ground-breaker in terms of international box office success, with around $30 million in international takings.

Hirani said Bollywood filmmakers are expanding their own horizons as their audience grows, both domestically and globally.

But the filmmaker stressed he had found no magic wand for making great cinema.

"I don't think there's ever a formula for success in film," said Hirani. "If there was, everyone would share it. I've been fortunate

"I guess one of the principles I work with is making the film for yourself not an audience. At least then one person will like it."&nbsp;

"You can't judge what the world will like," he added. "If you laugh at the jokes you are writing if you can cry at the emotional scenes, then hopefully the audience will too."

But for all the guidelines, Hirani says, early on it's hard to predict what the final product will look like.

"Every time you start a new film it's like digging a new well. You are not sure what you might find."

'Sanju': Manisha Koirala turns Nargis Dutt in the new poster

Sanju trailer opened to great response on May 30th. The&nbsp;much-awaited biopic on Sanjay Dutt will showcase the actor's dramatic life which has been ridden by controversies for ages. Ranbir Kapoor has already been garnering a lot of praise for his performance.

The film also boasts of a gamut of Bollywood actors who play some very important roles. But the trailer also gives a glimpse of an interesting cameo by none other than Arshad Warsi.&nbsp;

Warsi played Circuit in the Munnabhai films that were directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Now it was natural that when the director decided to make a biopic on Dutt, Munnabhai film would be a part of the story as it was a turning point in Dutt's career. And naturally, if you mention Munnabhai, you have to mention his sidekick Circuit.&nbsp;

Arshad Warsi has a blink-and-you-miss appearance in the trailer alongside Ranbir. We aren't sure how long his cameo is the film and the actor has refused to divulge much.&nbsp;

Speaking to DNA earlier, Warsi had stated that how he knew about the script for a long time as Hirani is a friend. "Ranbir is brilliant. I have seen him in workshops. I know the script. Raju is a friend so, he tells me about it. I know at what lengths these people, Raju have gone to make sure everything is right and the scenes… So, for me to reveal anything about it is out of the question but what I can tell you is that even if it’s not a biopic, it is still a beautiful film. Even if it wasn’t Sanjay Dutt biopic and you would go to see this film, you will love it. It is so beautiful, the scenes are so touchy… It is Raju! He works so hard on his films."

'Sanju' trailer releases, Internet explodes with hilarious memes around the film

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani today said he had offered the part of Sunil Dutt to Aamir Khan for the<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-sanju-trailer-ranbir-kapoor-plays-many-shades-of-sanjay-dutt-in-rajkumar-hiranis-film--140941"> 'Sanju'&nbsp;biopic</a> but the superstar was reluctant to play an older character after 'Dangal'.

Khan recently revealed that he was offered the role of Sunil Dutt in the biopic, but he was more keen to play the lead role, which was already with Ranbir Kapoor.

When asked about this, Hirani said,?"Aamir is a friend and whenever I write a script, I narrate it to him to get a reaction. I had narrated this to him as well, not with the intention of casting him to play any role (but because) he reacts very interestingly to the script. Out of greed, I asked him if he would play Sunil Dutt's role."

The director said Aamir turned down the role but not without giving it some thought.

"He took it seriously and gave it a thought and said let's meet next week. When I met him, he showed me 'Dangal' and said 'I am already playing an older role, if my next film after this is again an older role, people will stop giving me young man's role', which was a valid argument," the director told reporters at the trailer launch of the biopic.

The entire star cast of the film was present at the trailer launch.

Ranbir plays the titular role in 'Sanju'&nbsp;which features Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt, Sonam Kapoor as one of the girlfriends of Dutt, Dia Mirza as his wife Manyata, Manisha Koirala as his mother Nargis and Vicky Kaushal as his friend.

The movie also features Anushka Sharma, and Hirani revealed that she is actually enacting him and co-writer Abhijat Joshi.

"Anushka is playing the role of me and Abhijat. She is playing a biographer from London who comes here and Sanju wants her to write a book on him but she's reluctant. When he was narrating his story to us, even we were wondering if we should do it or not.

"Sometimes we used to sit with policemen, lawyers, family. We were in two minds whether to do it or not. So she is actually playing us, but not a filmmaker, a biographer," Hirani said.

At the launch, Paresh Rawal revealed that he had once received a birthday letter from Sunil Dutt in 2005 out of the blue and he still has the letter.

"Usually, we discard birthday letters after a while but that particular letter stayed in my drawer. This is a wonderful connection. I think I was meant to play Dutt sahab's role," Rawal said.&nbsp;

Koirala, who plays Nargis Dutt, said when her film 'Bombay' had released, Sunil Dutt sent her a letter saying 'You remind me of Nargis Duttji'.

"I really take that as a huge compliment," Koirala said.

The film is scheduled to release on June 29.

Veteran actor Dharmendra and Rajkumar Hirani honoured at 55th Marathi Film Awards

Rajkumar Hirani's film on Sanjay Dutt has to be the most anticipated film of 2018. The film, titled <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-watch-ranbir-kapoor-in-sanju-teaser-sanjay-dutts-life-through-rajkumar-hirani-eyes--132509">Sanju,</a> has Ranbir Kapoor playing the controversial actor and will touch upon a lot of interesting aspects of the actor's life - including some controversial parts as well.&nbsp;

Now, we all know that Ranbir will be playing the lead role. But the film is a multi-starrer and has a gamut of stars playing prominent roles. As we gear up for its June release, here's a look at who is playing what in the film.&nbsp;

Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt

While most feel they do not look the same at all, leaked photos from the film's set show Ranbir looking exactly like Dutt all thanks to make up. Kapoor has reportedly undergone rigorous physical training to look like Dutt. The actor has also spent a significant amount of time with Dutt to adapt his mannerisms.&nbsp;

Dia Mirza as Manyata Dutt

Dia Mirza, a regular in Hirani's films, will play Dutt's wife in the film. Manyata came in Dutt's life after the actor's marriage with Rhea Pillai fell apart. The couple is happily married and has twins together. Manyata was like a pillar of support for the actor during Dutt's 18-month jail term.&nbsp;

<img alt="dutt2.jpg" data-entity-type="" data-entity-uuid="" height="430" src="http://images.wionews.com/iniline-images/dutt2.jpg" width="770" />

Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt

Veteran actor and former Union minister, Sunil Dutt stood like a rock during Dutt's legal battle. Paresh Rawal will play the seasoned actor onscreen.&nbsp;

<img alt="dutt3.jpg" data-entity-type="" data-entity-uuid="" height="430" src="http://images.wionews.com/iniline-images/dutt3.jpg" width="770" />

Manisha Koirala as Nargis Dutt

Perhaps the most interesting casting of the entire lot, Manisha Koirala will play the legendary actress Nargis in the film. Nargis died a few weeks before her son Sanjay Dutt made his debut in Rocky'&nbsp;The actor was known to be close to his mother.&nbsp;

The first teaser of Dutt biopic to release on this date

Actor Aamir Khan, often known as Bollywood`s Mr. Perfectionist, says he is &quot;totally indisciplined&quot; in real life, but his work brings out the discipline in him.

The actor-producer on Monday launched his friend and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani`s pilot wife-turned-author Manjeet Hirani`s book titled &quot;How To Be Human&quot; here.

The book talks about how people can learn from animals around them. In the book, Manjeet has mentioned how her pet dog Buddy Hirani is very disciplined when it comes to his diet.

On discipline in his own life, Aamir told the media: &quot;Actually, I am not disciplined at all. I am totally indisciplined. The only thing that gets me to be disciplined is my work so if I was not an actor and not in this field, I would have been the most indisciplined person.

&quot;The only reason I am disciplined is because my work requires me to be so. Otherwise, I am not disciplined. I know it`s very hard for people to imagine that... But this is the fact and people who are close to me know that and they know how indisciplined I am. The only thing is work that pulls me back to the track and makes me do what I have to do.&quot;

Aamir, who was the voice of Pluto the dog in Bollywood film &quot;Dil Dhadakne Do&quot;, admits there`s a lot&nbsp;people can learn from pets.

&quot;It`s so true that actually, we can learn so much not only from our own pets but from animals around us because they are really less judgmental than we are.

&quot;We are very judgmental on many things and for many reasons which you don`t need to be. Whereas, an animal is also judgmental but on a very few things. They are judgmental about their survival... Like if a deer is walking in Forest, he would be judgmental towards a tiger thinking `He will eat me`, whereas we are judgmental on so many levels all the time.&quot;

Aamir also said he rarely thinks beyond the present.

&quot;I live in the now and I never have long-term plans. It`s always about what I am to do right now.&quot;

&quot;I have also realized that no matter what I am doing right now, my entire focus is on that one thing whether it is eating, meeting somebody, watching a film, shooting a film or a discussion with someone. Whatever I am doing at time, I am fully into that.&quot;

&quot;Nothing else distracts me from that. So, for me, it comes naturally. I don`t think of the future. Sometimes I multitask when I need to, but I don`t enjoy that,&quot; he added.
