<p>He was abducted by terrorists from Kalampora area in Pulwama while on leave for Eid.</p>

<p>At about 9 am on Thursday, army men from the unit stopped a car asking the driver to drop Aurangzeb in Shopian, soon after terrorists&nbsp;stopped the vehicle as it approached Kalampora and abducted Aurangzeb.</p>

<p>Police have begun investigating the matter.&nbsp;The Army is also conducting an inquiry into the incident.</p>

<p>In May last year, a 22-year-old lieutenant with the Rajputana Rifles was kidnapped from Kulgam.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ummer Fayaz was found the following morning shot in the head and abdomen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti today strongly condemned the killing of two policemen in a pre-dawn terror attack at Pulwama.</p>

<p>In a statement, the chief minister termed the act as "highly reprehensible" as it was committed on a night when Muslims were seeking forgiveness from God, an official spokesman said.</p>

<p>Such incidents have the potential of depriving the people of the gains of peace moves like suspension of security operations and dialogue offer by the state and Centre, she said.</p>

<p>The chief minister asked the people to stand guard of the positivity generated by these peace moves on the ground which has given them ample relief and ease.</p>

<p>Mufti also conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved families of the slain policemen while praying for peace to the departed souls.</p>

<p>Former chief minister and opposition National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah also strongly condemned the attack.</p>

<p>A J&K Congress spokesperson described the killings as "dastardly and inhuman act".</p>

<p>The spokesperson said the killings deserved condemnation by every section of the society. He claimed the situation in the Valley had worsened due to wrong policies adopted by the state as well as the Centre.</p>

<p>Reports said that the CRPF and army men laid siege around the Drabgam village in Pulwama early this morning after receiving information about the presence of some militants there.</p>

<p>They said while the security personnel was conducting searches in the area, they came under fire from the militants hiding in the area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reports say that as soon as gunshots were heard, locals from the village gathered near the spot and staged protests in an attempt to break the cordon and help the militants escape.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Locals claim that at least 12 people were injured during the protests till now and police and paramilitary forces have resorted to heavy tear smoke shelling and pellet firing to disperse the crowd.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The militants have not been identified yet and the internet has been shut in order to prevent further flow of information.&nbsp;</p>

Soldier, policeman killed in encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir

<p>I saw a strange picture the other day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The picture (above) was I thought at first of a man on his knees. In his hands, pointed upwards, he held a catapult.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The "weapon" was pulled back, ready to launch a projectile at someone or something.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Then, when I looked more closely, I saw crutches in the background.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I imagine then that the man was without a leg, or legs. The caption that went with the picture was frustratingly "incomplete" — it said something like "Palestinians clash with Israeli defence forces on the Gaza border" there was nothing about the man himself, or why there might have been crutches lying behind him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some 16 Palestinians were killed in the clashes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I do not know what happened to the man in the picture.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But I think I know why he might have been launching stones at soldiers who have colonised his land. And I thought back then to another picture that we often use here at wionews.com to try and explain the situation in Kashmir.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The valley had erupted in fury and as the Indian security forces clamped down on the protests that ensued, the bodies began to pile up. By the time that summer of gore ended, the death toll had touched a 100.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Early one morning we left for south Kashmir, the hotbed of the protests.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We were in time directed to the village of Hillerbhai Kokernag in Anantnag where, we were told, a man had been shot dead by the CRPF the previous day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When we got there, an announcement was made over the loudspeaker atop the village mosque. It said the media were here and that the villagers should come out and speak to us.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The gathering suddenly morphed into a protest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A young boy was lifted onto the crowd’s shoulders. He would chant a line ("India, India") and the crowd would shout another back in unison ("Go back, go back").&nbsp;</p>

<p>The chanting went on for a long time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When it finally began to lull, the women joined in, and it picked up again.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"How does a crowd chant for so long? What keeps it going?" I had written then.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The answer is simple.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Like the Palestinian man with the crutches, or the Kashmiri schoolchildren in the other pictures, the villagers of Hillerbhai Kokernag believe soldiers have colonised their land. And from what I saw, I imagine they will stop at nothing to throw them out.&nbsp;</p>

How do you beat a boy or a crippled man with a stone, even if you're armed with a gun?

I saw a strange picture the other day. The picture (above) was I thought at first of a man on his knees. In his hands, pointed upwards, he held a catapult. The "weapon" was pulled back, ready to launch a projectile at someone or something. Then, when I looked more closely, I saw crutches in the background. I imagine then that the man was without a leg, or legs. The caption that went with the picture was frustratingly "incomplete" — it said something like "Palestinians clash with Israeli defence forces on the Gaza border" there was nothing about the man himself, or why there might have been crutches lying behind him. Some 16 Palestinians were killed in the clashes. I do not know what happened to the man in the picture. But I think I know why he might have been launching stones at soldiers who have colonised his land. And I thought back then to another picture that we often use here at wionews.com to try and explain the situation in Kashmir. Here it is: (Kashmiri schoolboys pelt stones at Indian security forces.) Here's another: (Kashmiri schoolgirls do the same.) I was in Kashmir after the killing of the young Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. The valley had erupted in fury and as the Indian security forces clamped down on the protests that ensued, the bodies began to pile up. By the time that summer of gore ended, the death toll had touched a 100. Early one morning we left for south Kashmir, the hotbed of the protests. Also read: In and a difficult out of South Kashmir We were in time directed to the village of Hillerbhai Kokernag in Anantnag where, we were told, a man had been shot dead by the CRPF the previous day. When we got there, an announcement was made over the loudspeaker atop the village mosque. It said the media were here and that the villagers should come out and speak to us. The gathering suddenly morphed into a protest. A young boy was lifted onto the crowd’s shoulders. He would chant a line ("India, India") and the crowd would shout another back in unison ("Go back, go back"). The chanting went on for a long time. When it finally began to lull, the women joined in, and it picked up again. "How does a crowd chant for so long? What keeps it going?" I had written then. The answer is simple. Like the Palestinian man with the crutches, or the Kashmiri schoolchildren in the other pictures, the villagers of Hillerbhai Kokernag believe soldiers have colonised their land. And from what I saw, I imagine they will stop at nothing to throw them out. Story most Kashmiri men tell: 'I was beaten by security forces' We have already been warned of that. India's security forces recently killed 13 Kashmiri militants in one day. The killings were dubbed the Indian Army's "greatest success" in over a decade. <p>The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly having links with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).</p>

<p>The arrested person, identified as Tauseef Ahmed Malik, (25), is a resident of Pulwama district, according to the anti-terror investigation agency.</p>

<p>Two mobile phones have also been seized from his possession.</p>

<p>The role of Malik about his association with the terror outfit had surfaced during the interrogation of LeT terrorist Sheikh Abdul Nayeem, who was arrested by the NIA from Aurangabad in November.</p>

<p>Malik came in Nayeem&#39;s contact in March 2017 when the latter had visited Pulwama and stayed with LeT operatives for three months.</p>

<p>Malik was later produced in Pulwama Chief Judicial Magistrate&#39;s court which granted his transit remand for four days.</p>

<p>The accused will be brought to Delhi and produced before the NIA Special Court at Patiala House soon.</p>

<p>They were given immediate first aid and taken to the 92 Base Hospital but the jawans succumbed to their injuries, he said.</p>

<p>Topal, who hailed from Falota village in Uttarakhand, had joined the force in 2012. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, the spokesperson said.</p>

<p>Singh (22), who belonged to Savitri Nagar village in Gujarat, had donned the uniform in 2013. He is survived by his parents and a brother.</p>

<p>The mortal remains of the soldiers were flown to their native places for last rites with full military honours, the spokesperson said.</p>
