An Israel-based start-up has invented a novel pregnancy test kit — SaliStick, that uses&nbsp;the saliva to determine pregnancy. The kit has been launched in Israel and will be available in the global markets from 2023. The diagnostics breakthrough SaliStick test provides precise findings in no more than 10 minutes,&nbsp;without the requirement for a blood or urine sample.&nbsp;

“Saliva is the key to rapid diagnostics for a variety of medical reasons. It is the only non-invasive, easy, and hygienic means to detect hormones, viruses, and even diseases,” said Prof Aaron Palmon, Co-founder of Salignostics.

“With SaliStick, we leverage the powerful diagnostics abilities we have been able to create from analyzing saliva. This product completely removes the need for blood and urine samples when testing for pregnancy,” Prof Aaron added.

The start-up firm has built a new manufacturing plant with a one million unit monthly production capacity in northern Israel's Lavon Industrial Zone .

In 2016, a group of academics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem had established Salignostics.

After that, a risk score will be assigned. Similar tests, such as Chorionic villus sampling (CVS), can detect Down syndrome. In CVS, cells are taken from the placenta and used to analyse the fetal chromosomes. This test is typically performed in the first trimester, between 10 and 13 weeks of pregnancy. Prof Sally Collins, who is a consultant obstetrician and medical lead for women's health at Perspectum Ltd, expressed her opinions on the new technology. Collins said, "Many studies have shown that if you have a small placenta in the first trimester, you will have a small placenta at term, and a small placenta makes a small baby." "If your placenta is small, and has a normal supply of blood vessels (vascularity), it can be an indication of foetal growth restriction. If it is small with low vascularity, you potentially get a small baby and preeclampsia," she added. "What we’ve come up with is a fully automated, artificial intelligence method for seeing and measuring the placenta, and the blood supply at its interface with the uterus, so suddenly, we have a computer tool that can tell you the size and the vascularity of the placenta in real time," added Collins. As per the media report, approximately eight families in the UK are affected by stillbirth, with foetal growth restriction each day.

Nishida said she tried to contact the airlines twice via email and by phone to file a complaint and request for an explanation. Later the airline was contacted by The Wall Street Journal in November for comment for its article, Nishida said after that the airline emailed her the apology.

"The only time I ever was able to get in contact with someone from HK Express before their apology was when I called their customer service line to complain," she said. "I was told that my complaint would be brought up to management." But she said she heard nothing after that.
