Reiterating Kyiv's openness to resuming exchanges, he said that Ukraine was always ready to accept its citizens and instead accused Russia of slowing down the process.

The statement follows recent claims from Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, who on Saturday (Nov 2) accused Ukraine of essentially sabotaging the process by refusing to take back its detained citizens.&nbsp;

According to Zakharova, Russia had offered to release 935 Ukrainian POWs but said that Ukraine had accepted only 279.

Also on Saturday, Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova expressed concern that Ukraine had "politicised" the issue and urged both sides to return to constructive dialogue to expedite the exchanges.&nbsp;

"We consider it necessary to return to a constructive dialogue and speed up the exchange of prisoners," the Russian Human Rights Commissioner wrote on Telegram.

POW exchanges between the two warring nations have happened frequently and have been ongoing since Russia's 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The last exchange took place in mid-October, with each side successfully returning 95 prisoners.&nbsp;

The United Arab Emirates said it succeeded in mediating the release of 100 Russian prisoners of war in exchange for 100 war prisoners from the Ukrainian side.

Russia's Defence Ministry, in a post on the Telegram messaging app, noted the UAE's "humanitarian mediation", as did Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and the Ukrainian body overseeing exchanges of POWs.

The UAE's foreign ministry said it is the third mediation effort between Russia and Ukraine this year adding that it is calling for diplomacy, dialogue, and de-escalation, state news agency WAM reported.

Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine's presidential administration, announced the release of 50 "protectors of Ukraine" and promised that further prisoners of war will be exchanged "until the liberation of the last Ukrainian".

Yermak posted on the Telegram messaging service, "The defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal have returned, also those captured ... in the battles in the Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia directions."

Yermak further stated that among the newly released an unidentified number of Ukrainian prisoners of war were detained at the Olenivka detention centre.

In a July attack in the eastern frontline town of Olenivka, close to Donetsk, dozens of Ukrainian prisoners held by Moscow-backed separatists were killed.

Earlier as per an AFP report, Russia had accused Kyiv of executing several surrendering soldiers.

A UN report published last month alleged that prisoners of war on both sides have been subject to torture and ill-treatment.

Videos circulated on Russian social media this week purporting to show the bodies of Russian servicemen killed after surrendering to Ukrainian troops.

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said "excerpts" of a video showed that Russians "using a staged capture... committed a war crime by opening fire on the Ukrainian Armed Forces".

He assrted that the soldiers "cannot be considered prisoners of war"

"Those who want to use the protection of international law to kill must be punished," he added.

One video circulating on Russian social media shows soldiers apparently surrendering to several military personnel in camouflage and wearing yellow armbands.&nbsp;

The troops giving themselves up lie down on the ground in the debris-filled backyard of a house. 
The video abruptly cuts off as shots are heard.

Another video filmed from above shows the bodies of around a dozen people surrounded by apparent blood stains. These videos have not been independently confirmed by WION.

Russia has been claiming that the videos showed "deliberate and methodical murder of more than 10 restrained Russian soldiers".
