Between 1999 and 2015, the Post Office prosecuted hundreds of sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses for alleged theft, fraud and false accounting based on the information from a recently installed IT system.&nbsp;

The decades-long scandal involves thousands of branch owner-operators and hundreds of wrongful convictions. According to the BBC, there are more than 900 convictions linked to the scandal over 16 years.&nbsp;

In a statement, Sunak, describing the scandal as “one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in our nation’s history” said that his government will introduce new legislation to make sure that the victims of the scandal are “swiftly exonerated and compensated”.&nbsp;

British media reports citing government officials said that the bill would be introduced “within weeks” as they have sought to grant the acquittals this year.

<h2>How will it help the victims of the scandal?</h2>

Speaking in the House of Commons after the UK PM, Kevin Hollinrake, member of Parliament and Post Office minister said hundreds fell victim to a “brutal and arbitrary exercise of power” by the state-owned entity.&nbsp;

Hollinrake told the Commons that amid the ongoing public inquiry about the scandal, they have found evidence that suggests that the Post Office acted with “incompetence and malevolence”.&nbsp;

He also noted that the bill that the government has sought to introduce could lead to some people fraudulently claiming compensation, but it will be a price worth paying.&nbsp;

“The risk is that instead of unjust convictions, we should end up with unjust acquittals,” said the Post Office minister. He added, “These are exceptional circumstances, and we need to act quickly and decisively. Time is one thing that we and the convicted postmasters do not have.”

The opposition Labour Party has welcomed the decision indicating that the bill introduced would swiftly pass through the parliament.&nbsp;

He also acknowledged that it is not a “foolproof device” but called it “proportionate” and respectful of those who would have suffered the ordeal.&nbsp;

The bill will be introduced in response to the alarmingly slow pace at which the wrongly convicted Post Office staff is being exonerated and involve the parliament overturning the verdicts of multiple courts.&nbsp;

The bill would be introduced despite many raising concerns about the parliament interfering with the courts’ decision and setting a concerning precedent.&nbsp;

While the full details of the proposed law are yet to be known, Downing Street said it would amount to a blanket overturning of convictions tied to the scandal.&nbsp;

In 2001, the slimy creatures crawled up postboxes in piles of letters all over England. They were leaving their slime everywhere, getting into the letters, licking the paste. But they left the stamps alone, respectful of the Queen's image." Snails are herbivores, and they breed rapidly in damp conditions. They eat vegetables, fruits, flowers, and cereals. They also feed on rotting organic material. However, they are fond of glue on envelopes and stamps. According to Country Life, there are over 120 varieties of snails in Britain. Spread over 1021 square feet, the structure was built by Larsen &amp; Tourbo Limited under the technological guidance of India’s prestigious engineering institute—the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras.

This is said to be the first commercial building to have used 3D printing technology.&nbsp;

Communications and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who virtually inaugurated the building, said that the new post office reflects the spirit of present-day India.

He marvelled at the structure, saying that it was possible because the country has a leadership that is decisive and has confidence in its people’s capabilities.&nbsp;

“This city always presents a new picture of India. The new picture that you saw in terms of this 3D-print post office building is the spirit of India today. That's the spirit with which India is progressing today…”

“The spirit of development, the spirit of developing our own technology that's the defining feature. All this is possible because the country has a leadership that is decisive &amp; has confidence in our people’s capabilities,” Vaishnaw said.

The building, which has been used as a backdrop for various Filipino&nbsp;movies, is located near a plaza which is named after the national hero – Andres Bonifacio. The plaza has been a prime location for protests by left-wing and nationalist activists over a range of political and social issues.&nbsp;

The ships of MSC’s CLF (Military Sealift Command Combat Logistics Force) are the supply lines to U.S. Navy ships at sea. These ships provide virtually everything US Navy ships need, including fuel, food, fleet ordnance and dry cargo, spare parts, mail, and other supplies.  

All CLF ships are government-owned and operated by U.S. government civil service mariners. In addition to U.S. Navy ships, Military Sealift Command’s Combat Logistics Force also resupplies international partners and allies operating in the Indo-Pacific Region. CLF ships enable the US Navy fleet to remain at sea and combat ready for extended periods of time.  

The USNS Charles Drew is 689 ft long, 106 ft wide, has a displacement of 41,000 tons, and can travel at a speed of 20 knots. The ship is manned by a 53-member crew and can carry over 6,600 tonnes of dry cargo, over 1,700 tonnes of refrigerated stores, and 18,000 barrels of cargo fuel. A barrel is a unit of volume equal to 42 U.S. gallons or 9702.0 cubic inches.

The USNS Charles Drew is designed to carry 63% more cargo than previous AE and AFS classes of ships, and it can accommodate two vertical replenishment helicopters.

The US Navy has awarded a contract to private firm L & T's Shipyard in Kattupalli, near Chennai in southern India.The vessel will spend days at the private shipyard to undergo repair work in various areas. These ships provide virtually everything US Navy ships need, including fuel, food, fleet ordnance and dry cargo, spare parts, mail, and other supplies.   All CLF ships are government-owned and operated by U.S. government civil service mariners. In addition to U.S. Navy ships, Military Sealift Command’s Combat Logistics Force also resupplies international partners and allies operating in the Indo-Pacific Region. CLF ships enable the US Navy fleet to remain at sea and combat ready for extended periods of time.   The USNS Charles Drew is 689 ft long, 106 ft wide, has a displacement of 41,000 tons, and can travel at a speed of 20 knots. The ship is manned by a 53-member crew and can carry over 6,600 tonnes of dry cargo, over 1,700 tonnes of refrigerated stores, and 18,000 barrels of cargo fuel. A barrel is a unit of volume equal to 42 U.S. gallons or 9702.0 cubic inches. The USNS Charles Drew is designed to carry 63% more cargo than previous AE and AFS classes of ships, and it can accommodate two vertical replenishment helicopters. In a bizarre incident, two men carried a dead body to a post office in County Carlow of Ireland to claim his pension on Friday morning. &nbsp;

At about 11.30 am, one of the men entered the post office. He tried to collect a pension payment for an older man, the Irish Times reported. &nbsp;&nbsp;

But he was refused and the staff also informed him that the pensioner should be present for the money to be handed over. &nbsp;

Soon after, the man returned with two other men. One of them was in his 60s and appeared to be supported by the other two. The younger men asked for his pension payment. &nbsp;

After a woman, who became suspicious, raised an alarm, the men fled the scene and abandoned the man’s body. No cash was handed over to them. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The deceased man was reportedly well known to the men, who had brought him to the post office. &nbsp;

An investigation has been started in the incident.&nbsp;Gardaí, state police force of the Republic of Ireland, said that they are investigating “all the circumstances surrounding the unexplained death of an elderly male in the Carlow area”. &nbsp;&nbsp;

A post-mortem will also be conducted. &nbsp;&nbsp;
