<h2>What we know about the incident</h2>

The police said that the teen was killed sometime after 10:00 pm (local time) on Friday (Jun 28) in the New York city of Utica when three officers stopped two young people in connection with an armed robbery investigation.&nbsp;

While the officers were questioning the teens, one of them fled on foot, said the Utica police in a news release. The police said that the youth, both 13, matched the descriptions of the robbery suspects and were spotted in the same area&nbsp;around the same time the next day.&nbsp;

The victim had fled after the police, as per the footage, said that they needed to pat them down to make sure they didn’t have any weapons in their possession.

Subsequently, the teen later identified as Nyah Mway, 13, ran and the police spotted what “appeared to be a handgun,” the Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said in a press conference on &nbsp;Saturday morning.&nbsp;

“A Utica police officer ultimately discharged his firearm once, striking the male, during a ground struggle,” he added. He was frequently interrupted by the outraged community members.

According to Williams, Mway was given immediate first aid and taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.&nbsp;

It wasn’t until after the shooting that the officers recovered a pellet gun resembling a Glock 17 handgun, said the Utica police chief.&nbsp;

The police officer who allegedly shot and killed Mway was identified as Patrick Husnay.&nbsp;

The New York attorney general’s office said that they have opened an investigation into the shooting. Utica police said it is conducting its own investigation.&nbsp;

All three officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Hundreds of people attended a community vigil for the teen, reported ABC News. Lay Htoo, Mway’s uncle, told the media outlet that he and his family were depressed and saddened.

Htoo said his family was from Myanmar and his nephew had moved to Utica eight years ago. Mway had recently graduated from middle school and was a “very good kid,” said Htoo.&nbsp;

The police department released the body cam footage after a public outcry over the shooting. Utica, a city with a population of 65,000, is also home to more than 4,200 people from Myanmar, reported the Associated Press.&nbsp;

Mway, as per media reports, was a refugee born in Myanmar and a member of the Karen ethnic minority.

Damond had called Minneapolis police Saturday around 11:30 pm to report a possible assault occurring near her home. Two officers responded with their police car&#39;s emergency lights off.&nbsp;

Officer Matthew Harrity told investigators Tuesday that he had been &quot;startled by a loud sound&quot; near the squad car just before Damond approached, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said in a statement.&nbsp;His partner, Officer Mohamed Noor, was in the passenger seat.

&quot;Harrity indicated that Officer Noor discharged his weapon, striking Ruszczyk through the open driver&#39;s side window,&quot; the agency said.

The BCA did not identify the startling sound, but an unidentified officer recorded on a police radio conversation published by the website Minnesota PoliceClips, speculated it may have been fireworks that sounded like gun shots.&nbsp;

After the shooting, the officers provided medical aid until paramedics arrived, but Damond died at the scene of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, authorities said.&nbsp;

The officers&#39; body-worn cameras were not on during the incident, and investigators appealed for witnesses to come forward.&nbsp;

Police and African-American community unite in Dallas after shooting

President Barack Obama pledged on Saturday to seek ways to calm racial tensions and reduce divisions between police and minorities during his final months in office, but he warned that easy access to guns nationwide exacerbated the problem.

Obama spoke at the end of a week in which five policemen were killed by a sniper in Dallas and two black men&nbsp;were killed by police in Minnesota and Louisiana. 
 
He said he would bring together civil rights and law enforcement leaders for talks at the White House next week after returning from a trip to Europe.

Obama, the first black US&nbsp;president, has spoken out on racial issues throughout his time in the White House. 
 
He has also tried but failed to reform American gun laws, stymied by Republicans in Congress who have opposed any measures that they seen as impinging on the Constitutional right to bear arms, despite a series of mass shootings in recent years.

Obama said the Dallas police force reduced murder rates and community complaints by taking the issue of race and police conduct seriously, and said he hoped that would inspire &quot;constructive actions&quot; in the coming weeks.

&quot;That&#39;s the spirit that we all need to embrace. That&#39;s the spirit that I want to build on,&quot; he said during a press conference in Poland.

But the divisive issue of gun control could not be separated from the tension between police and local citizens, he said.

Over the past week, 32-year-old Philando Castile was fatally shot by police in Minnesota as civil rights investigators probed an incident a day earlier in Louisiana in which 37-year-old Alton Sterling was slain by officers. 
 
They are among a dozen black people killed by police in the United States in the past few years whose deaths were the subject of viral videos that brought forth angry allegations of police brutality. 
 
While the extent of police wrongdoing remains unclear, criminal justice specialists say widespread use of social media and smartphone videos have shone light on these cases, paving the way for changes in policing. 
 
&quot;What constitutes police brutality or misconduct is a matter of interpretation, and until now that was left up to the police departments and the top brass,&quot; Christopher Schneider, a sociology professor at Canada&#39;s Brandon University and author of the 2016 book &quot;Policing and Social Media.&quot;

Over the past week, 32-year-old Philando Castile was fatally shot by police in Minnesota as civil rights investigators probed an incident a day earlier in Louisiana in which 37-year-old Alton Sterling was slain by officers. They are among a dozen black people killed by police in the United States in the past few years whose deaths were the subject of viral videos that brought forth angry allegations of police brutality. While the extent of police wrongdoing remains unclear, criminal justice specialists say widespread use of social media and smartphone videos have shone light on these cases, paving the way for changes in policing. "What constitutes police brutality or misconduct is a matter of interpretation, and until now that was left up to the police departments and the top brass," Christopher Schneider, a sociology professor at Canada's Brandon University and author of the 2016 book "Policing and Social Media." "Now these videos are circulating online immediately after an incident and what constitutes brutality is now left to all of us." The use of "citizen journalist" videos in these kinds of cases is now new, dating back to the 1991 beating of taxi driver Rodney King, which sparked riots in Los Angeles. But it has become far more prevalent with the ability to post smartphone videos instantly on social media such as Facebook or Twitter. "Whereas citizen journalists often drove media coverage of the so-called Arab Spring, for example, they're now performing a similar service in the national discussion of race and policing in the US," said David Uberti, a fellow with the Columbia Journalism Review. "Social networks like Twitter have helped amplify such individual voices, with content shared nationwide in hours, if not minutes." Changing policing Schneider, who has studied police departments in the US and Canada, said the latest high-profile cases are likely to lead to a "historic change in policing." That is because minorities and communities that have been marginalized have been given a voice by social media, forcing police departments to rethink their entire strategy, he said. "One of the biggest challenges to police agencies is that they need to regain control of public perceptions," Schneider told AFP. "We need to believe that the police are the good guys." A policeman shot a man outside the Love Field airport in Dallas on Friday, after the man,&nbsp;with rocks in his hands, vandalized a woman&#39;s car and later threatened the police officer with a large rock. The incident&nbsp;prompted a temporary shutdown of parts of the facility, police said. 
 
Dallas police in a written description of the incident said the suspect, whom they identified as Shawn Diamond, 29, the father of the woman&#39;s children, had told the officer, &quot;You&rsquo;re going to have to shoot me&quot;. 
 
Diamond, who had a rock in each hand, later made a &quot;quick approach directly at the officer&quot; and the policeman fired his handgun, striking Diamond, the police description said. 
 
When Diamond got up with a rock in one hand, the officer opened fire on him again, police said. 
 
In a social media video played on several broadcasters, five shots could be heard, followed by a volley of several more. Shouts of &quot;get down&quot; were heard and an officer with a pistol could be seen. 
 
Diamond was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said. 
 
Video images of the woman&#39;s car showed broken windows and numerous dents but police said she was not hurt. She had driven Diamond to the airport so he could fly home to the East Coast, police said. 
 
Due to the disturbance, which occurred outside baggage claim, some people entered secure areas without proper screening, Dallas Assistant Police Chief Randy Blankenbaker told reporters. 
 
&quot;The airport decided to pull everyone back out of the secure area and recheck them for security purposes,&quot; he said. 
 
This created massive lines and the incident led to problems with flight schedules at the airport where budget carrier Southwest Airlines Co. controls 18 of Love Field&#39;s 20 airport gates.
