The opposition alliance of 146 lawmakers have signed in the writ petition in the supreme court demanding the appointment of Deuba as the Prime Minister. Of them, 61 lawmakers belong to Nepali Congress, 48 to CPN (Maoist Center), 23 to CPN-UML, 12 to JSP and one to the Rashtriya Janamorcha Party.

They have also challenged Prime Oli and President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s House dissolution move and have demanded to reinstate the House of Representatives.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister said meaningful initiatives are being taken to unite the party.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“The first need is unity, the second is unity and the third is unity,” said PM Oli.&nbsp;

However, the Madhav Kumar Nepal faction did not attend today’s meeting.&nbsp;

Referring to the Nepal faction, Oil said,“They are carrying out vile activities to overthrow their own party.”

After the meeting, spokesperson Pradip Gyawali said, "We have decided to inform all concerned that in such a multi-party system, the signatures of the party members contrary to the party's decision cannot have any recognition or meaning.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, a five-judge constitutional bench of the court hearing the petition is likely to close the hearing this week and deliver the verdict by Monday.

The dissident faction has alleged Oli breached the party discipline and is liable to expulsion from the party. It had earlier relieved him from the post of party Chairman.

The Nepal Communist Party, which has not split formally but has virtually fallen apart after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli unilaterally decided to dissolve the House of Representatives on December 20 without the party's consent.

Since then, the Nepal Communist Party is acting like two parties — one headed by Oli himself and the other led by former Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda and Madhav Kumar Nepal. Both sides are running separate programmes across the country under the same banner as they await official recognition from the Election Commission.

Nepal plunged into a political crisis on December 20 after Oli, known for his pro-China leanings, in a surprise move dissolved Parliament, amidst a tussle for power with Prachanda.

His move to dissolve the 275-member House, sparked protests from a large section of the NCP led by Prachanda, also a co-chair of the ruling party.

Oli, who is the chairperson of a faction of the NCP, has said he was forced to dissolve the House after knowing that the Prachanda-led faction was planning to file a no-confidence motion against him and introduce an impeachment motion against President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

Oli-led CPN-UML and Prachanda-led NCP (Maoist Centre) merged in May 2018 to form a unified Nepal Communist Party following the victory of their alliance in the 2017 general elections.

After a vertical split in the ruling party following the dissolution of the House, both the factions, one led by Oli and another led by Prachanda, have submitted separate applications at the Election Commission claiming that their faction is the genuine party and asked to provide them the election symbol of the party.

However, the Election Commission is yet to decide the matter.

In December, China sent a four-member high-level delegation to Nepal to prevent a split within the NCP.

So, on Tuesday, when Oli postponed the Standing Committee meeting for the ninth time, the members of the rival faction did not listen to him, they barged into the prime minister's residence and held the Standing Committee meeting in its assembly hall without Oli. The meeting was attended by 29 of the 45 Standing Committee members which is a clear majority in support of Prachanda who also happens to be the co-chair of the NCP.

Now, the majority of the NCP Standing Committee wants Oli to either resign from the prime ministership or the party chairmanship. The party members feel that Oli's behaviour has created problems in the party cadre. According to the party constitution, the Standing Committee cannot bring him down from the PMO but they can pressure Oli into stepping down from the party leadership if Oli disregards the demands of the Standing Committee, then his party could head towards a split.

A formal split means the government would fall and Nepal would head to an election. The Nepalese media reports claim that Oli is trying to float a new party, one of Oli's confidants has also filed an application with Nepal's election commission, so, Oli clearly is preparing for a split.

However, it is highly unlikely that the Nepal PM will get the voters support due to the massive protests against him with not everyone happy in Nepal with the NCP's growing proximity to China.

China is playing puppet with Nepal by encouraging it to amend its map and claim Indian land, ban private Indian channels, declare Lord Ram a Nepali, shun American aid, repress citizen protests and even send the army to its border with India.

China has taught Oli to whip ultra-nationalism and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli followed the Dragon blindly. The result is &nbsp;PM Oli has lost the support of the voters and his party.

As the Nepal Parliament was in session this morning, Oli moved to prorogue it. He met the President of Nepal, and asked her to discount the session without dissolving it.

The Prime Minister got his wish. With this move, comrade Oli has managed to avoid a no-confidence motion from his own party members.&nbsp;

Oli is facing a rebellion from within. His differences with Pushpa Kamal Dahal have become insurmountable.

Dahal, better known as Prachand, has been Nepal's Prime Minister twice. Prachand and Oli were alliance partners in 2016, but they fell out over a power struggle. In 2018, they merged their parties and the two communist parties of Nepal joined hands to become one party.

This looked like an arranged marriage, with China playing the matchmaker. However, like all things made in China, this too may not last.

The differences between Oli and Prachand are insurmountable.

On Wednesday, 31 out of 45 standing committee members took a stand against Oli. This is the highest decision making body of Nepal's ruling party and it has turned against Oli. They all want him to step down. So, Oli prorogued the parliament, and bought himself some time.

Reports say, he is planning to bring in an ordinance now -- something that could delay the split of his party.&nbsp;

China's money trap

China's ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi has become deeply intertwined in the country's political setup. She has been spotted with top politicians of Nepal.

According to a report, the ambassador held a meeting with key leaders of the Nepal Communist Party in May. She convinced them to work together, instead of fighting each other. This intervention may have helped Oli back then, but things are very different now. China's influence is not limited to politics.

In 2019,&nbsp;the trade volume between China and Nepal touched 1.5 billion dollars. China is the second largest source of tourists in Nepal. It&nbsp;pulls strings in Nepal using its chequebook -- the&nbsp;money is being used to buy compliance.

China, by far, is the biggest aid provider for Nepal. Its grant is valued at 106 million dollars. In return, it gets more access.

China picked up 25 reconstruction projects after the earthquake in 2015. China is building its soft power too.

Last year, several private schools in Nepal made Mandarin a compulsory subject for students.

Why should they learn china's language? Because china has long term plans in Nepal. Who will fund this? Beijing..&nbsp;

Reports say&nbsp;the Chinese government offered to cover the salaries of the teachers in these schools. That is the extent of China's influence in Nepal.

In exchange for some Chinese funds and the promise of power, Prime Minister Oli has turned a blind eye to China's land grab. He launched a diplomatic war with India over disputed territories, but remains blind to China usurping Nepal's land.

His party and his countrymen aren't blind though. They have called out the Prime Minister and want him out.

Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli's recent remarks that efforts are being made to oust him after his government redrew Nepal's political map has backfired, with top leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party demanding his resignation on Tuesday.

As soon as the powerful Standing Committee meeting of the ruling party started at the PM's official residence at Baluwatar on Tuesday, former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' slammed Oli for the remarks he made on Sunday.

"The Prime Minister's remarks that India was conspiring to remove him was neither politically correct, nor diplomatically appropriate," he said.

"Such a statement by the Prime Minister may damage our relations with the neighbour," he warned.

Prime Minister Oli on Sunday said that there have been various kinds of activities in the "embassies and hotels" to remove him from power.

He said some Nepalese leaders were also involved in the game.

Accusing the southern neighbour and leaders of his own party by the Prime Minister was not appropriate, a senior leader of the party quoted Prachanda as saying during the meeting.

Besides top leader Prachanda, senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Vice chairman Bamdev Gautam and spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha also asked Prime Minister Oli to provide evidence of his accusation and asked to quit the power, he said.

They said the Prime Minister should resign on moral ground as he spoke such "an undiplomatic and nonpolitical remarks."

However, the Prime Minister who was also present at the meeting, did not make any comment.

Prachanda has time and again spoken about the lack of coordination between the government and the party and he was pressing for a one-man one position system to be followed by the NCP.

This is not the first time that the senior leaders asked Prime Minister Oli to resign from his post.

In April also, Oli was asked to resign from the post.

After offering prayers at the temple, PM Modi met his Nepalese counterpart KP Oli inside the temple complex as the two leaders exchanged views on India-Nepal relations.

PM Modi and Nepalese PM Oli flagged off the Janakpur-Ayodhya bus service as the two countries sought to reset India-Nepal ties.

"I am happy that Nepal PM came all the way from Kathmandu," PM Modi said with prime minister Oli at his side.
