Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate, the defence ministry's intelligence wing, revealed the identity of the pilot as 28-year-old Maxim Kuzminov, who was earlier part of the "319th separate helicopter regiment" which was based in the Far Eastern Primorye region of Russia.<br />

In a statement, the Main Intelligence Directorate talked about how the operation was led in "maximum secrecy", by first carrying out the pilot's recruitment after identifying that he did not support the invasion by the Kremlin.<br />

<p>“LATAM needs to improve the issue of protocol in case of health and medical emergencies like this where lives can be saved but the resources are needed," she added.</p>

<p>After the emergency landing, the passengers were shifted to hotels in Panama City&nbsp;and the flight resumed on Tuesday.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Thunder Over Michigan air show comes to an end but with a mishap</strong></h2>

<p>The fighter jets were flying as part of the Thunder Over Michigan air show which was hosted by the Yankee Air Museum. The museum has listed itself in Belleville but shares a property, the Willow Run Airport, which is located in Ypsilanti Charter Township. Both properties are in the western suburbs of Detroit.</p>

<p>The two-day air show was close to the end of its second day when the crash happened shortly after 4 pm local time. NBC affiliate WDIV of Detroit reported the festivities of the rest of the day were cancelled. The aircraft was described by Wimbley as a demonstration plane.</p>

<p>The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have been investigating the incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A Delta Airlines pilot was arrested by the police on suspicion of consuming too much alcohol just before he was scheduled to chauffeur a flight from Scotland to New York.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 61-year-old pilot was arrested at Edinburgh Airport around 10 am on Friday, 30 minutes before the Boeing 767 was scheduled to take off. The plane was to undertake a seven-hour journey to John F. Kennedy International Airport.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Delta confirms that one of its crew was taken into custody this morning at EDI Airport. Delta is assisting the authorities with their ongoing enquiries," said an airline spokesperson, confirming the arrest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, the pilot was arrested after his blood alcohol level was found above the legal limit of 0.02, set under the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003. After the arrest, the flight to New York was cancelled and the passengers re-accommodated.</p>

<p>“We apologise to customers impacted by this cancellation,” the spokesperson added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pilots getting arrested for being inebriated is not new news. In 2019, a 38-year-old Delta Airlines pilot from Rosemount was arrested and later pleaded guilty to a gross misdemeanour count of operating or attempting to operate an aircraft under the influence of alcohol. The pilot had a blood alcohol level between 0.04 per cent and 0.08 per cent when detectives arrested him on a plane at the Minneapolis airport</p>

<p>Notably, this is not the first instance when Delta Airlines has made the news headlines this year. In March, a passenger aboard Delta Flight 1714 from Los Angeles to Seattle was arrested after opening one of the aircraft&nbsp;doors and sliding down the emergency exit slide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The plane was immediately stopped by the pilots as the man jumped onto the back of a baggage cart. The Delta staff nabbed the passenger before handing him over to the LAX Police.</p>

<p>A few hours after the incident, the air force said that the pilot was "recovering favourably" but would need to stay in the hospital for "a few days" under supervision. The pilot landed beyond the perimeter fence of the airbase, and one of the Guardia Civil guards was the first to reach him, according to The Associated Press. <p>The Indonesian Army had sent 36 soldiers for Phillip Mehrtens, who&nbsp;was kidnapped by the members of the West Papua Liberation Army—the armed wing of the Free Papua Movement—after he landed his Susi Air plane at a remote strip in the rebel held area of the country in February. His aircraft was later set on fire.</p>

<p>“It’s still unknown exactly how many Indonesian army troops died and were injured. We are still searching, but heavy rain, foggy weather and a lack of communication have hampered our search and evacuation efforts,” Papua military spokesperson Col Herman Taryaman said, according to AP news agency.</p>

<p>Addressing a press conference, the spokesperson for the Indonesian National Armed Forces, First Admiral Julius Widjojono, said the troops confronted the rebels when they were trying to comb an area close to the position of the pilot and his abductors.</p>

<p>The rebels opened fire and shot a soldier who fell into a 15-metre deep ravine, and then launched a second attack on troops who were trying to get&nbsp;the fallen soldier's body out, Widjojono said.&nbsp;He assured that the troops will carry out the search operation “with maximum force”.</p>

<p>Rebel spokesperson Sebby Sambom said in a statement that the group’s fighters carried out the attack in revenge for the killing of two rebels in a shootout with Indonesian security forces in March. He said at least nine members of Indonesia’s elite army force were killed in Saturday’s attack.</p>

<p>Saturday’s fighting is the latest in a series of violent incidents in recent years in Papua, a former Dutch colony in the western part of New Guinea that is ethnically and culturally distinct from much of Indonesia.&nbsp;Conflicts between indigenous Papuans and Indonesian security forces&nbsp;are common.</p>

<p>The pilot had to make an emergency landing. The flight had departed from Bloemfontein and was destined for Pretoria. The private plane, Beechcraft Baron 58, had four passengers onboard along with the snake.</p>

<p>Erasmus said that Cape cobra's single bite is lethal and can lead to the victim's death in 30 minutes, hence to avoid any panic, he carefully thought before telling passengers calmly about the unwanted co-passenger on board.</p>

<p>Erasmus was also "so scared the snake might have gone to the back and cause mass panic". Thinking thoroughly, he decided to inform the passengers.</p>

<p>"I did inform the passengers: 'Listen the snake is inside the aircraft, it's underneath my seat, so let's try and get down to the ground as soon as we can',” he said to the passengers.</p>

<p>Describing about the scary announcement made to the passengers, Erasmus said that there was an absolute moment of silence: "You could hear a needle drop and I think everyone froze for a moment or two,” he said.</p>

<p>Pilots receive training for dealing with various scenarios, but certainly not for handling snakes in the cockpit, Erasmus said, adding that panicking would have made the situation much worse.</p>

<p>The plane's emergency landing was made in the city of Welkom. The presence of a snake, however, was not a total surprise. Two employees working at Worcester flying club, from where the plane first took off, said that they had seen the reptile enter the aircraft and had tried to "grab" it, but in vain.</p>

<p>Erasmus said that he had also tried finding the snake before boarding the aircraft along with the passengers, but "unfortunately it was not there, so we all then safely assumed that it must have crawled out overnight or earlier that morning, which was on Monday".</p>

Director Passafiume said that it' a great feeling to see this story come full circle and that Polaris will have a loving home with United Airlines Captain Dale and his family — just in time for the holidays. <p>When the adoption was finalised on December 15, United not only threw a fun celebration at the airport in Polaris's honour but also donated $5,000 to the SF SPCA. <p>A former U.S. military pilot and flight instructor who worked in China was arrested in Australia and faces extradition to the United States, Australian court documents and company records show.</p>

<p>Australian Federal Police arrested Daniel Edmund Duggan, 54, on Friday in the rural town of Orange in New South Wales, and he appeared in court there on the same day, court records show and two police sources and his lawyer confirmed.</p>

<p>His lawyer appeared by videoconference, and Duggan was denied bail and taken to the nearby Bathurst jail, two of the sources said.</p>

<p>Duggan is a former U.S. citizen and the federal police were acting on a U.S. request for his arrest ahead of likely formal extradition proceedings, said one of the police sources, who was not authorised to speak publicly.</p>

<p>Duggan's next court appearance will be in Sydney in November to consider any bail application. Details of the U.S. arrest warrant and the charges he faces are sealed.</p>

<p>The arrest came the same week Britain warned dozens of former military pilots to stop working in China or face prosecution on national security grounds under new laws. Australia is also investigating reports some of its former fighter pilots have been approached to work in China.</p>

<p>An aviation source told Reuters that the FBI sought Duggan because of his work in China. His lawyer, Dennis Miralis of Nyman, Gibson and Miralis, said he could not comment.</p>

<p>Duggan moved to Australia after a decade in the U.S. military and started a business called Top Gun Tasmania, hiring former U.S. and British military pilots to offer tourists joyrides in fighter jets, company records show and aviation sources confirmed.</p>

<p>Duggan also flew ex-military aircraft in Australian air shows, three pilots told Reuters.</p>

<p>Hong Kong company records show AVIBIZ Limited was registered there by Australian passport holder Daniel Edmund Duggan in 2017 and dissolved in 2020.</p>

<p>Duggan could not be immediately reached for comment.</p>

<p>Under Australia's extradition treaty with the United States, the U.S. government will have 60 days to make an extradition request. The treaty allows Australian citizens to be extradited.</p>

<p>A pilot manning the Cessna 208 Caravan plane heading to Florida had suddenly become ill. With no co-pilot by his side, an unnamed passenger, with no prior flying skills and who was heading home to see his pregnant wife, decided to have a go at the private plane.</p>

<p>The result: The plane landed safely, no one was harmed, and the man who flew the single-engine plane instantly became a hero globally.</p>

<p>The incident took place on Tuesday. The plane took off from Leonard M. Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbor, the Bahamas, and was headed to Florida on Tuesday afternoon when the drama began.</p>

<p>Two people were aboard the single-engine Cessna 208 when the pilot had a "possible medical issue," the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement, CNN reported.</p>

<p>The condition of the pilot was not immediately known.</p>
