"I couldn't believe it when PDSA rang to tell me Daisy had swallowed so many coins. My purse had been missing, and we'd searched high and low for it, not thinking it was Daisy who was the culprit who ran off with it," the Guardian quoted Daisy's owner, Ivana from Derby.

X-rays conducted revealed shocking images which showed that the puppy had swallowed a variety of coins, including three 1ps, three 5ps, two 20ps, and two £1 coins, summing up a total of £2.68.

Vet nurse Sally Frith, who works at Derby PDSA Pet hospital, told The Guardian, "Daisy has broken a new record; we couldn't believe the number of coins she'd managed to eat, especially for such a tiny puppy."

"The coins had been causing a blockage which, if left, could have been fatal, so it's a good job her owner brought her into PDSA when she did."

UK's leading vet charity, PDSA, said that Daisy was examined, and vets could identify that her stomach was the cause of her pain. This raised suspicions of a blockage, so she was sedated and then X-rayed to gather conclusive results.

"I had no idea a puppy would even eat this sort of thing, and we were all beside ourselves with worry and so scared we might lose her. My four-year-old daughter is best friends with Daisy, and she was very upset," Daisy's owner, Ivana, added.

DogPhone is a ball-shaped device that, when moved, sends a signal to your laptop, launches a video call and sounds like a phone ringing.

Existing technology allows you to measure your pets' steps or ring them or remotely give them food, but your dog doesn't really have a choice, explains first author, Dr Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas of the University of Glasgow.&nbsp;

According to her, studies have shown that giving animals choice and control can improve their welfare.

She said that the DogPhone gives the dog some sense of agency by considering both the owner and the dog.

As part of the testing process, Hirskyj-Douglas and her nine-year-old black labrador, Zack, tested the DogPhone over 16 days to ensure it had the right level of motion sensitivity.

Despite being shown how the system worked five times, the owner's diary details calls between her and the pet, the latter never appeared to know what he was doing.

During the testing days, Zack was left alone for approximately eight hours. Many of the calls appear to have been accidents, although the team&nbsp;cautions that it may just be human perception.

Results which were then presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases showed that around 4.2 per cent of the pets had a current infection, while 17.4 per cent tested positive for antibodies.&nbsp;

PCR (polymerase chain reaction)-positive animals were subsequently tested and showed that antibodies were formed.

According to the researchers, the most likely route for transmission of viruses is from humans to animals, but that they can't say that vice versa is zero per cent possible.&nbsp;

Many animals in Russia are being vaccinated against the disease by veterinarians. However, Dr Broens believes that to be unnecessary, as for now there is no evidence supporting the need for it.&nbsp;

The number increased from 172 dogs in 2019 to 465 dogs in 2020. "Last March, due to lockdown, lots of people thought that this would be the best time to introduce a dog to the family. The demand grew really high, and some people bought them online without asking the diligent background questions you would usually asking when buying in person," Justine Quirk, from DogLost said.&nbsp;

Senturk was taken to hospital on January 14 after a brain embolism.

Boncuk, whose name means "Beads" in reference to her hazel eyes, followed the ambulance, and immediately began her vigil outside the entrance, returning every morning thereafter. She was occasionally fed by hospital staff.

Senturk's daughter tried to take the dog home several times, but said that she kept running away to return to the hospital.

"The reason for my attendance at the church of Saint Francis is to bring my pet, Goyi, to be blessed in the name of Saint Francis, the patron saint of animals," Silvia Navarro, a worker, said.
