Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa summoned the attorney general of Pakistan to appear before it in person and appraise the apex court as to what steps have been taken by the government to bring Musharraf back, the Express Tribune reported.

He was hearing a plea filed by the ex-president of Lahore High Court's Rawalpindi bench's bar association, which said that the proceedings of the treason case - being heard by a special court - had come to a halt since Musharraf had not returned to the country since 2016.

"The former president was not sent abroad by the court but by the government. Court decisions did not say that Musharraf should be sent abroad. If he is not coming back, his testimony should be recorded via Skype," he said.

"It was the government's job to put Musharraf's name on the Exit Control List (ECL), and bringing him back was also their job," the CJP said, adding that should the court be held hostage by the accused.

Chief Justice Khosa also sought a report within 15 days from the court's registrar over the reasons of delay and issued notices to the federal government and other respondents, before adjourning the case till March 25, the report said.&nbsp;

Amjad reiterated that Musharraf wants to appear before the court and is in consultation with his legal team to decide when and how to return, the report said.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, who is heading a three-judge bench hearing Musharraf's appeal against his 2013 disqualification by the Peshawar High Court, warned that if the former president does not show up in court by 2 pm tomorrow, a decision would be taken in the case according to law, the Dawn reported.

Last week, the apex court had allowed Musharraf, 74, to file nomination papers to contest the July 25 general elections on the condition that he would appear in person before the court on today in Lahore to attend the hearing in the case. 
Although Musharraf's nomination papers for Chitral's NA-1 seat were submitted earlier this week, the former dictator did not appear in court today despite SC orders that his national identity card (CNIC) and passport were unblocked in order to facilitate his travel.

"The Supreme Court is not bound to Musharraf's terms," justice Nisar said today.&nbsp

"We've already said that if Musharraf returns, he will provided with security. We are not bound to provide a written guarantee."

"If Pervez Musharraf is a commando, he should show us by returning, instead of continuously parroting that he will return like a politician," he said.

"Why does Musharraf need protection, what is he so afraid of?" he said.

"How can a commando be so afraid? Musharraf would say that he has evaded death many times but he was never afraid," he said.

"If Musharraf has Parkinsons how will he show his fist?" he asked. "Musharraf should face the Constitution, the law, the nation and the courts," he asserted.

Musharraf, the former Pakistan Army chief, began his military service in 1964 as a commando of the Northern Light Infantry. He also participated in the 1971 war as a company commander in a commando battalion.

In 2013, Musharraf was declared ineligible to contest elections for life by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in view of the 2009 judgement in which 2007 emergency was declared illegal.

In his appeal, Musharraf had pleaded before the Supreme Court to set aside the high court order, stating that in it he was condemned unheard without due process of law.

The court in March ordered the federal government to suspend his Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and passport.

The Express Tribune reported that the National Registration and Database Authority (NADRA) suspended Musharraf's CNIC which resulted in the default suspension of his passport.

It further reported that after his passport was blocked, Musharraf would not be able to travel in any country and even his stay in Dubai would be illegal.

Sources said that now he can either seek political asylum or have special documents arranged if he desires to return to Pakistan.

The special court in its order of March had stated that the ministry of interior and all other departments, divisions and agencies of the government of Pakistan must take positive steps to ensure his arrest.

Complying with these orders, the Minister of Interior by the end of May had asked the NADRA to suspend the CNIC of the former military ruler.

However, the media department of the NADRA, its spokesperson, and Chairman Usman Mobin were all unavailable for comment on the development.

A conviction for high treason carries the death penalty or life imprisonment.

The 74-year-old military dictator&#39;s passport was to expire on March 16, but he sought an early renewal as international travel, in many cases, was not possible with a passport having less than six-month validity.

Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf was issued a new passport two months before the expiry of his travel document, and it was again a diplomatic passport for which he was entitled to being a former head of state, Mr Iqbal was quoted as saying by Dawn newspaper.

He said that Mr Musharraf&#39;s diplomatic passport was renewed out of fear that he might use it as a pretext for not returning home to face the treason case.

&quot;He needs a passport to travel back to Pakistan. He would have contended that without a passport he cannot travel and would have blamed the government for blocking his return,&quot; the Minister said.

On March 16, the special court hearing the high treason case against him authorised the government to suspend his passport as well as his computerised national identity card (CNIC). The report also said that any correspondence regarding renewal of Musharraf&#39;s passport could not be traced in the FO&#39;s consular section.

The special court in its order has expressed dismay at the inaction of the federal government in taking positive steps to ensure the arrest of Musharraf, who has already been declared proclaimed offender.

Quoting legal experts, the report said the special court's order to suspend Musharraf's CNIC and passport is very significant as it will halt his movement abroad. Advocate Shah told the paper that he had already sent two applications through courier to the ministries of interior and defence for providing foolproof security to Musharraf on his arrival in Pakistan to ensure presence in the court. He, however, stated that they have yet to receive any response from the two ministries. On the other hand, prosecution head Akram Sheikh said that ministry has yet to receive any application by Musharraf's counsel. "The court was informed that the accused is presently residing in United Arab Emirates and that there is an extradition treaty between government of UAE and government of Pakistan which could be invoked to ensure the arrest of the accused and attachment of his properties in the UAE," says the order. The court also asked the government to make a request to the Interpol for the issuance of an appropriate warrant for his arrest and for his production before the court on March 21. As the hearing went underway, the Interior Ministry submitted in court a report on Musharraf&#39;s properties, stating that four of the seven properties are owned by the former president and army chief.

Ten years ago, Musharraf imposed an emergency. Prosecutor Akram Sheikh, presenting arguments, pressed the court to order Musharraf&#39;s arrest and production in court.

The court inquired from the Federal Investigation Agency officials what the procedure is to bring back an absconder from abroad. The officials replied that the Interior Ministry sends them a request in this regard after which action is taken.

Chief Justice Afridi remarked that the court is ordering the arrest and seizure of Musharraf&#39;s properties. Musharraf&#39;s counsel, Akhtar Shah, pleaded the court not to order confiscation of Musharraf&#39;s properties until March 21, but Justice Afridi remarked that this court procedure and cannot be curtailed.

The hearing was then adjourned until March 21.

The former army chief was indicted in the case in March 2014 after he appeared before the court and rejected all charges.

On March 18, 2016, the former president left Pakistan for Dubai for medical treatment after his name was removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) on the orders of the Supreme Court.

A few months later, the special court had declared him a proclaimed offender and ordered the confiscation of his property owing to his no-show.&nbsp;

Dina Wadia, daughter of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, passed away in London on Thursday, at the age of 98, said Pakistani media reports.

Quoting family sources, Pakistan&#39;s Samaa TV said that Dina was the only child of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his second wife Rattanbai Petit who was also known as Maryam Jinnah.

Dina Wadia was born in London on August 15, 1919. Her paternal grandparents were from Gujarat, who moved to Karachi for business in the mid 1870s, where her father, Jinnah, was born.

Her mother was a member of two of the elite class families of Bombay, the Petit-Tata family. Through her marriage to industrialist Neville Wadia, she belongs to the prominent Wadia family.

In 2007, Dina Wadia filed a writ petition before the Mumbai High Court, claiming that Jinnah House could not be classified as &quot;evacuee property&quot;, as her father had died without leaving behind a will and demanded that the house be handed over to her.

Successive Pakistan governments often expressed deep interest in acquiring the property free of charge for sentimental reasons. During his visit to India, President Pervez Musharraf renewed Pakistan&#39;s claim to the house when he had had suggested to Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee should be given to Pakistan so that it could be turned into a consulate.

Dina last visited Pakistan in 2004 during a landmark cricket series between Pakistan and India on the invitation of former President General Retired&nbsp;Pervez Musharraf. She considered cricket diplomacy to be an enthralling dimension.

Wadia had never visited Pakistan since her father&#39;s funeral in September 1948.

A Pakistan anti-terrorism court Wednesday declared former military ruler Pervez Musharraf a fugitive in the murder trial of &nbsp;former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

A court official said he had &quot;absconded&quot;, adding that the court has ordered his property to be confiscated.

Musharraf, who was charged with Bhutto&#39;s 2007 assassination in 2013, has been in self-imposed exile in Dubai ever since a travel ban was lifted three years later.

The court also acquitted five men accused of being Taliban militants and involved in the conspiracy to murder Bhutto, the court official said.

However it found two police officers guilty of &quot;mishandling the crime scene&quot;, &nbsp;and sentenced each of them to 17 years imprisonment and a fine&nbsp;of 500,000 rupees ($4,700).

Benazir Bhutto, the Muslim world&#39;s&nbsp;first female prime minister,&nbsp;was killed in a gun and suicide bomb attack during an election rally in Rawalpindi.

The verdicts are the first to be issued in the case, and come nearly 10 years after her death.

Musharraf`s government blamed the assassination on Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, who denied any involvement. He was killed in a US drone attack in 2009.

In 2010, a UN report accused Musharraf`s government of failing to give Bhutto adequate protection and said her death could have been prevented.

Pakistan has rejected former military ruler Pervez Musharraf&#39;s demands of military security and safe passage to Dubai to face his high treason trial, saying an &quot;absconder&quot; cannot give conditions and &quot;dictate his prerequisites&quot; to the court. 
 
The federal government yesterday told a three-member special court that being an absconder for high treason, 73- year-old Musharraf cannot seek any relief until he surrenders before the court which is trying him in the high treason case. 
 
&quot;An absconder cannot dictate his prerequisites to the court and give conditions, that too his own subjective satisfaction, as to when he will appear and for how long,&quot; the government said in its response. 
 
Musharraf filed an application before the special court on May 5 in which he expressed willingness to face the trial under military protection. He also sought assurance from the court that he would be given safe passage back to Dubai. 
 
The government, through its chief prosecutor Mohammad Akram Sheikh, said, &quot;The application has been filed only to prolong the conclusion of the trial,&quot; the Dawn reported. 
 
&quot;That similar applications requesting &#39;foolproof&#39; security and citing medical and security reasons have previously been made in the other cases pending against the absconding accused but no other court allowed these requests.&quot; it said. 
 
However, the government said it was willing to provide &quot;all due security&quot; to Musharraf &quot;as per his entitlement&quot;. 
 
It also said that measures of effectiveness of the security could not be left to the whims of the absconding suspect, as in that case, security measures would never be found adequate. 
 
The federal government said Musharraf&#39;s demands were delaying tactics and said the suspect&#39;s conduct showed he had no desire to appear in court. 
 
The government&#39;s response also expressed doubts over the authenticity of the medical reports filed by Musharraf&#39;s counsel. 
 
&quot;There is neither any independently verified evidence of the ailments and travel restrictions nor has any material been placed on record,&quot; it said. 
 
&quot;The attestation by consulate general of Pakistan, Dubai is dated August 9, 2016, whereas the body of the vakaltnama (power of attorney) has an overwritten date as April 30, 2017, which on the face of it shows that it is not an authentic document,&quot; the response said. 
 
According to the reply, the court through its order dated July 19, 2016, declared Musharraf to be a proclaimed offender/absconder. Perpetual arrest warrants have been issued against him, after which proceedings to confiscate his properties have also been initiated. 
 
The government asked the court to dismiss Musharraf&#39;s application seeking military security and safe passage to Dubai, and to take &quot;all appropriate coercive measures to procure the attendance of absconding accused to complete the trial&quot;. 
 
The special court will resume proceedings in the high treason trial on May 19. 
 
Musharraf imposed emergency in 2007 by suspending the constitution, which is high treason according to the constitution in Pakistan and carries maximum death penalty.
