So, this time, His Holiness has agreed for the continuation of the Ganden Phodrang trust of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama who would be responsible for the future search of the next Dalai Lama whenever the time comes. Because his holiness, even now, keeps reassuring us that he will live for more than two decades. Penpa Tsering: That also means that there would be continuation of Dalai Lamas in future, whether it's the 15th or 16th or 17th, to follow. So, his holiness, always in his prayers says that till this world exists, till people are not free from all the bondage of inflictions His Holiness will be reborn to serve humanity. So, the whole concept of reincarnation itself is very unique to Tibetan Buddhism. There are so many Buddhist countries in this world. But this idea, or the whole idea, of reincarnation, is to carry forward the legacy and the responsibilities of the previous Lama. That is why it's significant that His Holiness continuation of the Ganden Phodrang trust and also the commitment to reincarnate is a very significant decision for the Tibetans and for the world as well.&nbsp;Sidhant Sibal: If you can give more details about the Ganden Phodrang? Penpa Tsering: Ganden Phodrang institution is just like an ordinary family. 3 organisations registered, one is the Ganden Phodrang trust, Dalai Lama trust, registered in India. And there is also the Dalai Lama foundation that's registered in Switzerland. The Dalai Lama foundation and Dalai Lama trust will have nothing to do with the future responsibilities, but the &nbsp;Ganden Phodrang trust, and people who are secretaries in that office will be responsible whoever in the next two, three decades, whenever the time comes, they will be responsible for coordination. They will seek the advice of the High Lamas of other traditions, the oracles. The oracles come in the human medium, and they will also become consulted. Protecting these deities, should have relations with the successive Dalai Lamas over generations, so they will also be consulted. And there will be other means of also looking at those things. If you look at the reincarnation of the 13th to the 14th, there are a lot of rigorous tests that the young child, the reincarnated Lama, will have to go through to be identified as the next Dalai Lama.&nbsp;Sidhant Sibal: China has reacted, and approval needs recognition from the Chinese government and do you see 2 Dalai Lamas, one by process given out by his holiness and one by the Chinese government? Penpa Tsering: The Chinese government has been preparing for the demise of this Dalai Lama over the last 20-25 years. That is why they have also laid a law as well, which talks about the state recognising the reincarnated lamas, or what they call as the living Buddhas. So, they have three major points in their argument. What they are saying is that they will look for the next Dalai Lama within China or within Tibet. And for that, His Holiness has always said that he will be born in a free world. That's the reason why His Holiness has repeatedly said and in this book, voice for the voiceless, His Holiness has mentioned that His Holiness, reincarnation, will be born in a free world. The second thing the Chinese government says is that when they say it's a break from tradition, they are talking about the use of golden urn, which was invented, introduced in 1793. &nbsp;I have always been saying there have been eight Dalai Lamas before the introduction of golden urn, which was mainly to be used as a political tool by the Chinese, and that was hardly or rarely used in the Dalai Lama cases, or Panchen Lama cases following 1793. What about the eight Dalai Lamas that have been there? Are there not Dalai Lamas? There was no golden urn at that time. It means nothing to the Tibetan schools, even when it was used for the two occasions in recognising Panchen Lama in the mid-80s. Even then, most of the process of selection has already been done. Now, then the Chinese government also says that they have to approve the recognition, which is absurd, because even at that time when the golden urn was introduced, at least the Qing were Buddhist, in a way, because we were preceptor to the Chinese emperor. A government that does not believe in any religion, saying that they would recognise reincarnate Lamas is absurd in many ways. Chinese govt want to use to use whole system to control Tibet in future. If they can control Dalai Lama, they can control Tibet but that will be a life long headache.&nbsp;Sidhant Sibal: How do you define free world? Does free world mean India? Will next Dalai Lama to be likely to be born in India or any other part of the world? Penpa Tsering: As I mentioned earlier, also, the whole idea of reincarnation is to carry forward the legacy of the previous Lama. So, if His Holiness is born in a not free world, in a controlled authoritarian regime, then His Holiness would not have the freedom to carry forward his responsibilities. That is why His Holiness says he will be in a free world and India, obviously, is a very likely choice... There has to be relation between the parents and the community that His Holiness will be born, and there should be master-student relationship between the family and the community where His Holiness is born. That is why, if His Holiness is reborn in India, which is very likely, and I cannot confirm it, because His Holiness to decide, as was mentioned, at the meet the press yesterday, it is too early right now, so for His Holiness to give any signs or messages regarding his next life, it will come only when the time is right. So Chinese government always says that they welcome His Holiness to visit China and Tibet and but they put this condition that His Holiness should stay back. And because of that, His Holiness has responded that if his Holiness gets to go to China or Tibet, he will go but not live there, because there is no freedom there.&nbsp;Sidhant Sibal: What do you think of the international community's role over the reincarnation process in terms of supporting it? What's your expectation? What's your hope from the international community? Penpa Tsering: &nbsp;Now, within China, just like the Panchen Lama experience, the Chinese-appointed Panchen Lama is not recognised by Tibetans. So the same thing would happen with the next Dalai Lama. If China decides to choose one, and the Tibetans in exile, if Tibet is not free by that time, then we'll definitely choose one. So there is no question about that.&nbsp;Sidhant Sibal: So what's your personal affection as His Holiness Dalai Lama turns 90 as the president of the Tibetan government in exile. How do you plan to protect and continue the culture of Tibet outside of Tibet amongst the Tibetan refugees? Penpa Tsering: Yes, for the Tibetan community, of course, it's a very important event. And for global community also, it's very important because, as we speak, there is so many violence going on around this world, so many new conflict zones. So the message of nonviolence and compassion, Karuna and Ahimsa, that is rooted in the ancient Indian wisdom and which His Holiness spreads, is very, very important. I think the 90th birthday should be focused on the four principal commitments of His Holiness, which is very simple to explain. Also. His Holiness is, I'm one among the 8 billion people in this world, and His Holiness always speak about the concept of oneness of humanity, that every human being in this same is in this world is same, and His Holiness is just one among them, and his responsibility is to promote human values. So, in that sense, he has worked with scientists for many years.&nbsp;

Sidhant Sibal: If you help us understand the announcement made by the Dalai Lama? Penpa Tsering: His Holiness over the years has said many things, including that this could be the last Dalai Lama. That is why, first, we need acceptance from this holiness, that there would be a continuation of the institution of the Dalai Lama, which is not only important for the Tibetans, but for the whole world. So, this time, His Holiness has agreed for the continuation of the Ganden Phodrang trust of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama who would be responsible for the future search of the next Dalai Lama whenever the time comes. Because his holiness, even now, keeps reassuring us that he will live for more than two decades. This acceptance by His Holiness is a very important decision for the Tibetans and for His Holiness. Sidhant Sibal: What does it mean for the reincarnation process? Penpa Tsering: That also means that there would be continuation of Dalai Lamas in future, whether it's the 15th or 16th or 17th, to follow. So, his holiness, always in his prayers says that till this world exists, till people are not free from all the bondage of inflictions His Holiness will be reborn to serve humanity. So, the whole concept of reincarnation itself is very unique to Tibetan Buddhism. There are so many Buddhist countries in this world. But this idea, or the whole idea, of reincarnation, is to carry forward the legacy and the responsibilities of the previous Lama. That is why it's significant that His Holiness continuation of the Ganden Phodrang trust and also the commitment to reincarnate is a very significant decision for the Tibetans and for the world as well. Sidhant Sibal: If you can give more details about the Ganden Phodrang? Penpa Tsering: Ganden Phodrang institution is just like an ordinary family. 3 organisations registered, one is the Ganden Phodrang trust, Dalai Lama trust, registered in India. And there is also the Dalai Lama foundation that's registered in Switzerland. The Dalai Lama foundation and Dalai Lama trust will have nothing to do with the future responsibilities, but the Ganden Phodrang trust, and people who are secretaries in that office will be responsible whoever in the next two, three decades, whenever the time comes, they will be responsible for coordination. They will seek the advice of the High Lamas of other traditions, the oracles. The oracles come in the human medium, and they will also become consulted. Protecting these deities, should have relations with the successive Dalai Lamas over generations, so they will also be consulted. And there will be other means of also looking at those things. If you look at the reincarnation of the 13th to the 14th, there are a lot of rigorous tests that the young child, the reincarnated Lama, will have to go through to be identified as the next Dalai Lama. Sidhant Sibal: China has reacted, and approval needs recognition from the Chinese government and do you see 2 Dalai Lamas, one by process given out by his holiness and one by the Chinese government? Penpa Tsering: The Chinese government has been preparing for the demise of this Dalai Lama over the last 20-25 years. That is why they have also laid a law as well, which talks about the state recognising the reincarnated lamas, or what they call as the living Buddhas. So, they have three major points in their argument. What they are saying is that they will look for the next Dalai Lama within China or within Tibet. And for that, His Holiness has always said that he will be born in a free world. That's the reason why His Holiness has repeatedly said and in this book, voice for the voiceless, His Holiness has mentioned that His Holiness, reincarnation, will be born in a free world. The second thing the Chinese government says is that when they say it's a break from tradition, they are talking about the use of golden urn, which was invented, introduced in 1793. I have always been saying there have been eight Dalai Lamas before the introduction of golden urn, which was mainly to be used as a political tool by the Chinese, and that was hardly or rarely used in the Dalai Lama cases, or Panchen Lama cases following 1793. What about the eight Dalai Lamas that have been there? Are there not Dalai Lamas? There was no golden urn at that time. It means nothing to the Tibetan schools, even when it was used for the two occasions in recognising Panchen Lama in the mid-80s. Even then, most of the process of selection has already been done. Now, then the Chinese government also says that they have to approve the recognition, which is absurd, because even at that time when the golden urn was introduced, at least the Qing were Buddhist, in a way, because we were preceptor to the Chinese emperor. A government that does not believe in any religion, saying that they would recognise reincarnate Lamas is absurd in many ways. Chinese govt want to use to use whole system to control Tibet in future. If they can control Dalai Lama, they can control Tibet but that will be a life long headache. Sidhant Sibal: How do you define free world? Does free world mean India? Will next Dalai Lama to be likely to be born in India or any other part of the world? Penpa Tsering: As I mentioned earlier, also, the whole idea of reincarnation is to carry forward the legacy of the previous Lama. So, if His Holiness is born in a not free world, in a controlled authoritarian regime, then His Holiness would not have the freedom to carry forward his responsibilities. That is why His Holiness says he will be in a free world and India, obviously, is a very likely choice... There has to be relation between the parents and the community that His Holiness will be born, and there should be master-student relationship between the family and the community where His Holiness is born. That is why, if His Holiness is reborn in India, which is very likely, and I cannot confirm it, because His Holiness to decide, as was mentioned, at the meet the press yesterday, it is too early right now, so for His Holiness to give any signs or messages regarding his next life, it will come only when the time is right. So Chinese government always says that they welcome His Holiness to visit China and Tibet and but they put this condition that His Holiness should stay back. And because of that, His Holiness has responded that if his Holiness gets to go to China or Tibet, he will go but not live there, because there is no freedom there. Sidhant Sibal: What do you think of the international community's role over the reincarnation process in terms of supporting it? What's your expectation? What's your hope from the international community? Penpa Tsering: Now, within China, just like the Panchen Lama experience, the Chinese-appointed Panchen Lama is not recognised by Tibetans. So the same thing would happen with the next Dalai Lama. If China decides to choose one, and the Tibetans in exile, if Tibet is not free by that time, then we'll definitely choose one. So there is no question about that. Sidhant Sibal: So what's your personal affection as His Holiness Dalai Lama turns 90 as the president of the Tibetan government in exile. How do you plan to protect and continue the culture of Tibet outside of Tibet amongst the Tibetan refugees? Penpa Tsering: Yes, for the Tibetan community, of course, it's a very important event. And for global community also, it's very important because, as we speak, there is so many violence going on around this world, so many new conflict zones. So the message of nonviolence and compassion, Karuna and Ahimsa, that is rooted in the ancient Indian wisdom and which His Holiness spreads, is very, very important. I think the 90th birthday should be focused on the four principal commitments of His Holiness, which is very simple to explain. Also. His Holiness is, I'm one among the 8 billion people in this world, and His Holiness always speak about the concept of oneness of humanity, that every human being in this same is in this world is same, and His Holiness is just one among them, and his responsibility is to promote human values. So, in that sense, he has worked with scientists for many years.

President of the Tibetan Govt in Exile, Penpa Tsering, has accused the Chinese government of orchestrating the recent viral video controversy surrounding the Dalai Lama. Tsering stated that the resurfacing of the video, which showed the Dalai Lama kissing a child at a public event, was part of a larger campaign to malign the reputation of the Tibetan spiritual leader.

Speaking to WION's Diplomatic Correspondent Sidhant Sibal, he said, "Everybody knows who benefits from the maligning, destruction of the reputation of His Holiness and the legacy of his holiness - it is the Chinese government."

Tsering who is the Sikyong (President) of the Central Tibetan Administration also spoke out against Chinese aggression at India's northern border, stating that their actions were not helping anybody. Additionally, Tsering challenged the Chinese government to properly study Tibetan Buddhism before attempting to interfere in the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, warning that their actions could lead to a "lifelong problem."

Talking about the controversy involving the Dalai Lama, Tsering said, "It's really unfortunate that His Holiness’ actions have been taken in a totally different way. If you watch the whole video, then you will understand the grandfatherly affectionate demeanour of His Holiness Dalai Lama. His Holiness is 87 years old. Please understand, he is no more a young man to be accused of all the names. We also need to understand where it's coming from. You know that this event happened publicly in the presence of the media on the 28th of February. Now this resurfaced one month and 10 days later and who were the first instigators of the resurfacing of these viral videos."

"And everybody knows who benefits from the maligning, destruction of the reputation of His Holiness and the legacy of his holiness - it is the Chinese government, we all know that but unfortunately, what was going around in the social media was picked up by the mainstream news," he added.&nbsp;

On being asked whether Beijing was behind this entire saga, Tsering said that from prima facie evidence, this was spread widely inside China to create a perception of the Dalai Lama, adding it moved internationally.&nbsp;

"And if you look at the scale and the extent of how it was orchestrated, there is a bigger force. There's no doubt about it," the President of the Tibetan Govt in Exile added.&nbsp;

As China came out with its views regarding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, Tsering said if Beijing wants to be responsible for reincarnation, it should study Tibetan Buddhism first.

"This is unique to Tibetan Buddhism, without understanding the concept of life after death, how can you be responsible, my challenge to the Chinese government is, do you want one lifelong problem? When the time comes, of course, His Holiness assures us that he would live for over another two decades, up to 113 years. I also keep saying that it remains to be seen whether his holiness outlives the Communist Party, or the Communist Party outlives the Dalai Lama. But then, again, China wants to use this as a political tool," he added.&nbsp;

Tibetan Govt in Exile President Penpa Tsering points to Chinese involvement in viral video of Dalai Lama

Tibetan president in exile, Penpa Tsering, warned that the ongoing protests in China could "imply serious consequences for communist party leadership." Chinese cities from Urumqi in the west to Shanghai in the east have been rocked by protests over the Chinese government's "zero Covid" policy which means tougher restrictions on the movement of people.&nbsp;

Speaking to WION's diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Tsering said that "it is an eruption of emotions that people have been controlling for so long....if he (Xi Jinping) decides to continue with the policy he is doing if feel he is digging his own grave".

Tsering, who is the Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration based out of Dharamsala, in Himachal Pradesh (India)&nbsp;pointed out that the protests will weaken the authority of Chinese President Xi Jinping.&nbsp;

The Tibetan President in exile was in Delhi to attend the 7th all-India Tibet support group conference. The meeting discussed several issues including the current human rights situation of Tibetan people, and the protection of the region's environmental resources. Here is the full interview.&nbsp;

WION: Amid the "zero Covid" policy of the Chinese govt, how has been the situation in Tibet?

Penpa Tsering: When Covid started in Wuhan, the spread as the Chinese government claims has been restricted because China's claim is that communism is the best system to handle the epidemic, they have been pushing the idea for too long. Now they are in a very difficult position to pull back this policy. In China losing&nbsp;the face is a big issue. Xi Jinping was himself behind this and fortunately for Tibet, in the beginning, not much infection, and it has not spread into Tibet.

Now this year, about four&nbsp;months ago it started spreading and a lot of restrictions were imposed, just as it had spread in any other part of China. But then there are differences in rural and urban areas, you saw what has been happening in Shanghai. Inside Tibet, people were taken in the night in a group of 10, irrespective you are positive or negative and put like sheep and cattle in a building of 10. For the first time, while it is not a political issue, many Tibetans have come out of the self-censorship and mentioned the kind of problem they are facing while China implements the zero Covid policy. While at the top you have the decision of communist party leadership, then at the implementing level so many agencies who want to maybe overtake another agency to prove loyalty to the leadership. So, they take different approaches that are not suitable to the people. It is also in Ughur and other parts of China.&nbsp;

WION: Your view over protests taking place across China.

Penpa Tsering: The recent developments, the protest spreading from Urumqi. In Urumqi, a fire incident happened in a house, and homeowners were not able to get out of the house due to Covid policy. So, if accidentally things happen, it's not possible for people to come out. That was witnessed by so many others. A lot of announcements pasted on university campuses which students did not like, so all these resulted in events, and protests in Shanghai, Urumqi and other places. It has spread to Beijing and other areas. As of now could not get information from Tibet, it is just filtering as we speak.&nbsp;

WION: Do you think ongoing protests can weaken the authority of Chinese President Xi Jinping?

Penpa Tsering: For sure, it is an eruption of emotions that people have been controlling for so long. If you look at the locations, Shanghai was one of the locations that were impacted by the covid lockdown. Xi Jinping himself made it clear, he supports the program. That is when one particular individual becomes too powerful then you get the credit but also criticism when you are wrong. If Xi Jinping decides to do good, it will be to his credit, but if he decides to continue with the policy he is doing, if feel he is digging his own grave.

WION: He has been confirmed as General Secretary of the Chinese communist party, in an attempt to solidify his position, becoming the president for life.&nbsp;

Penpa Tsering: That has been speculated since the time they removed the two-year tenure, and he went against every tradition of the communist party. Earlier, I was told Xi Jinping could not have his bread alone, it has to be shared. Now we find he took the whole bread for himself. These protests in the last few days, are response to the Chinese leadership post-party leadership issue. That is why these protests assume significance that people are not afraid of coming out, showing their faces, and showing their identity, even though China has a lot of artificial intelligence to control and track people. People now have the courage to rescue people from the police.

Penpa Tsering: I am not a fortune teller, I can't foresee the future, but if this escalates, this is going to be a serious problem for the Chinese govt. Any invasion from outside and destabilizing China is a different ball game, it is very difficult. But implosion from within, because of people's change in perception of the leadership, wanting more freedom. Now they are under so many restrictions. These could imply serious consequences for communist party leadership.

WION: The 7th All India Tibet support group conference took place today here in Delhi, key outcomes of the meeting.&nbsp;

Penpa Tsering: It is being organized by the core group of the Indian support group for Tibet. This has been there for many years, from the time we came to exile, it sometimes picked up and went. In the mid-1990s, I used to be told, don't you think the Tibetan issue is dead? Now you found out that the Sino-Tibet conflict is very relevant and particularly when it comes to the security of India, it has a lot of significance. Tibetan president in exile, Penpa Tsering, warned that the ongoing protests in China could "imply serious consequences for communist party leadership." Chinese cities from Urumqi in the west to Shanghai in the east have been rocked by protests over the Chinese government's "zero Covid" policy which means tougher restrictions on the movement of people.

Speaking to WION's diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Tsering said that "it is an eruption of emotions that people have been controlling for so long....if he (Xi Jinping) decides to continue with the policy he is doing if feel he is digging his own grave". Tsering, who is the Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration based out of Dharamsala, in Himachal Pradesh (India) pointed out that the protests will weaken the authority of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Tibetan President in exile was in Delhi to attend the 7th all-India Tibet support group conference. The meeting discussed several issues including the current human rights situation of Tibetan people, and the protection of the region's environmental resources. Here is the full interview. WION: Amid the "zero Covid" policy of the Chinese govt, how has been the situation in Tibet? Penpa Tsering: When Covid started in Wuhan, the spread as the Chinese government claims has been restricted because China's claim is that communism is the best system to handle the epidemic, they have been pushing the idea for too long. Now they are in a very difficult position to pull back this policy. In China losing the face is a big issue. Xi Jinping was himself behind this and fortunately for Tibet, in the beginning, not much infection, and it has not spread into Tibet. Now this year, about four months ago it started spreading and a lot of restrictions were imposed, just as it had spread in any other part of China. But then there are differences in rural and urban areas, you saw what has been happening in Shanghai. Inside Tibet, people were taken in the night in a group of 10, irrespective you are positive or negative and put like sheep and cattle in a building of 10. For the first time, while it is not a political issue, many Tibetans have come out of the self-censorship and mentioned the kind of problem they are facing while China implements the zero Covid policy. While at the top you have the decision of communist party leadership, then at the implementing level so many agencies who want to maybe overtake another agency to prove loyalty to the leadership. So, they take different approaches that are not suitable to the people. It is also in Ughur and other parts of China. WION: Your view over protests taking place across China. Penpa Tsering: The recent developments, the protest spreading from Urumqi. In Urumqi, a fire incident happened in a house, and homeowners were not able to get out of the house due to Covid policy. So, if accidentally things happen, it's not possible for people to come out. That was witnessed by so many others. A lot of announcements pasted on university campuses which students did not like, so all these resulted in events, and protests in Shanghai, Urumqi and other places. It has spread to Beijing and other areas. As of now could not get information from Tibet, it is just filtering as we speak. WION: Do you think ongoing protests can weaken the authority of Chinese President Xi Jinping? Penpa Tsering: For sure, it is an eruption of emotions that people have been controlling for so long. If you look at the locations, Shanghai was one of the locations that were impacted by the covid lockdown. Xi Jinping himself made it clear, he supports the program. That is when one particular individual becomes too powerful then you get the credit but also criticism when you are wrong. If Xi Jinping decides to do good, it will be to his credit, but if he decides to continue with the policy he is doing, if feel he is digging his own grave. WION: He has been confirmed as General Secretary of the Chinese communist party, in an attempt to solidify his position, becoming the president for life. Penpa Tsering: That has been speculated since the time they removed the two-year tenure, and he went against every tradition of the communist party. Earlier, I was told Xi Jinping could not have his bread alone, it has to be shared. Now we find he took the whole bread for himself. These protests in the last few days, are response to the Chinese leadership post-party leadership issue. That is why these protests assume significance that people are not afraid of coming out, showing their faces, and showing their identity, even though China has a lot of artificial intelligence to control and track people. China protests will have serious consequences for Communist Party, warns Penpa Tsering

Penpa Tsering, the President of the Tibetan government in exile based out of Dharamshala has said that the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur will be the chief guest at the birthday of his holiness Dalai Lama next week, that is 6th July. The development shows growing engagement by siting functionaries of the Indian govt. Remember last time Indian PM Modi had spoken to Dalai Lama and sent his congratulations. Speaking to our Diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Penpa Tsering who is the Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration said, "Dalai Lama is well regarded by the international community and you remember PM Modi wishing him on his birthday last year. So, this year, we have the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh as our chief guest for his holiness's birthday".

Newly elected members of Dharamshala-based 17th Tibetan parliament-in-exile conducted an oath-taking ceremony on Wednesday.

One of the senior-most members, Dawa Tsering first took oath as Protem/Interim Speaker in front of the Chief Justice Commissioner, Sonam Dagpo and then other MPs followed.

All the proceedings were kept indoors and they did not allow any media to cover the oath ceremony due to COVID-19 protocol.

Dolma Tsering, an MP, said, "There is a lot of enthusiasm, we have lots of newcomers, new faces with new zeal and new ambition and a new vision. So, we're looking forward to work with them and their contribution towards the community."

Mgyur Dorjee, another MP, said, "It is an oath-taking day today and we have taken our oath under the charter 47 and details will come out very soon. Everything was indoors because of Covid protocol and we had to follow the procedure as prescribed by the government of Himachal Pradesh and we strictly followed it."

Lobsang, a new member of Tibetan parliament-in-exile, said, "I feel very proud today that I was able to take oath in front of the Interim Speaker and my objective is to look at as an expert in technology...as a technologist, I think this is something that I can bring to the parliament. Everything is indoors and there are not more than five members in each room and we are following the norms of COVID-19 protocol."

All the members are also expected to elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker later today.

Dolma Tsering and Sonam Temphel are contesting for the election of Speaker whereas four candidates, Namgyal Dolkar, Yudon Aukatsang, Migyur Dorjee and Karma Gelek, are participating in the race of Deputy Speaker.

Penpa Tsering is the newly elected President of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Penpa Tsering: For that, I think the Chinese leadership will have to learn Buddhism to decide who should succeed His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Otherwise, they should respect the decision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people since it is a purely religious matter

Penpa Tsering: Overall we have to work under the guidelines provided by the central govt of India, and the respective state govt where Tibetan settlements (are present). But for the Tibetan population, the effort I would be making would be to try to inoculate as many Tibetans as possible and try to provide medical equipments and aids where we have a larger number of cases.
