Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM), closing the three routes of Karachi airspace from August 28 to August 31, reported Dunya News.

All international flights have been asked to avoid three aviation routes in the Karachi airspace as per the NOTAM. The CAA has not given any reason for the closure.

However, an alternate route has been suggested by the authority.

The notification comes at a time when the country's Technology Minister Fawad Hussain Choudhry stated that Pakistan is considering a complete closure of airspace to India, adding that the federal Cabinet is also planning to ban India from using its territory for trade with Afghanistan.

"Prime Minister is considering a complete closure of Air Space to India, a complete ban on the use of Pakistan Land routes for Indian trade to Afghanistan was also suggested in Cabinet meeting, legal formalities for these decisions are under consideration...!" the minister said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Amid heightening tensions between India and Pakistan over New Delhi's decision to revoke special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad has downgraded its diplomatic relations with India and partially closed its airspace. Pakistan had also shut down its airspace after India conducted Balakot strike on February 26.

On July 16, Pakistan had fully opened its airspace for all flights.

Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar has slammed Pakistan for using terrorism as a diplomatic tool against India, adding that it is a very unique phenomenon. Jaishankar also hit out at Pakistan for using terror as a state policy and a country that has been obstructing trade and connectivity in the region. Watch this video to know more.

S Jaishankar: Pakistan uses terror as diplomatic tool

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has slammed Pakistan for using terror as a state policy and a country that has been obstructing trade and connectivity in the region.

Speaking at the powerful think tank Valdai club in Moscow EAM said, "Problem with Pakistan is very different. I would say if today you look at international relations, I cannot think of any other country in the world, which actually uses terrorism as a diplomatic tool against its neighbour. It a very unique phenomenon."

Jaishankar highlighted how Islamabad refused to grant the most favoured nation or MFN status to India despite New Delhi granting it. India had withdrawn the status after the February 14 Pulwama terror attack perpetrated by Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group.

Jaishankar said, "We have struggled to have normal trade. They would not give us MFN status, although we are members of the WTO and Gatt. They would not allow connectivity from India to Afghanistan."

Pakistan has also been hindering India-Afghanistan connectivity. To increase connectivity India and Afghanistan started the air corridor which has been expanded to many cities of both the countries.

The foreign minister further explained, "So if have a neighbour who will not trade with you normally, who would not allow connectivity, using terrorism as a means of pressurizing you is okay as a policy, it is not a normal neighbour. We have some unique problem out there. We will find ways to deal with. There are complicated political and historical reasons for it"

Asked if, in foreseeable future, there can convergences between the two neighbours, Jaishankar said, "It will certainly would be my hope that they would become a normal neighbour, one day. I mean, that is something I would like to see happen."

The comments by Jaishankar comes even after Pakistan on Tuesday said that it is considering a complete closure of Air Space to India and a complete ban on the use of Pakistan land routes for Indian trade to Afghanistan.

Jaishankar is on a two-day Russia visit and will meet his counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday.

The deficit amounts Pakistani rupee Rs 3.445 trillion, highest since 1979-80 as per past Pakistan Economic Surveys. The figure which depicts the dire situation of Pakistan`s economy coincided with the completion of Imran Khan`-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government completion of first one year in power.

Facebook has blocked at least 31 accounts which were reportedly involved in spreading "propaganda" against polio vaccination in Pakistan.

This comes after Imran Khan-led PTI government in Pakistan requested the social media giant to take action against the accounts.

On Monday, rumours swirled over social media that a one-year-old girl had died after she was administrated with the polio vaccines.

"Print and electronic media showed responsibility and decided to wait till getting the autopsy report of the deceased. However, an organised campaign was launched on the social media that the girl had died because of the vaccine and people should not vaccinate their children," Prime Minister's Focal Person on Polio, Babar Bin Atta said.

However, the autopsy has cited suffocation to be a cause of girl's death. Following this, the government approached Facebook with its demand.

"As per the autopsy report, the girl died due to suffocation as a peanut got stuck in her throat. Just after getting the report we contacted Facebook and officially launched a campaign against those accounts which were involved in propaganda against the vaccine," he said.

While 58 cases have been confirmed in the South Asian country until now, only 12 and eight cases were confirmed in 2018 and 2017, respectively.

While polio is highly infectious, it is easily preventable by the polio vaccine.

Polio cases are presently reported from two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Due to this, nationals of either of the countries undertaking travel abroad are recommended to be vaccinated at the start of their journey by the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB).

It further added, "Should be grateful if this letter of complaint on Pakistan's continued activities is circulated as an official document of the Security Council".

The violation of Afghan territory continued despite Kabul informing Pakistan through diplomatic channel to cease the provocative activities.

The development comes even as Islamabad using the support of its ally China tried to rake up Kashmir at UNSC earlier this month in the backdrop of New Delhi's internal decision to remove the special status for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

This is not the first time Afghans have written to the UN. After approaching the UNSC, the meeting was cancelled though interestingly the announcement came from the Taliban.

The court in its notices sought a reply over the matter from the parties within two weeks.

The petition was submitted by a JuD affiliate, Malik Zafar Iqbal. The High Court took up the matter for hearing on August 22.

Iqbal, in his petition, contended that the complaints are "without lawful authority and are of no legal effect", Dawn News reported.

Pakistan's budget deficit widened to 8.9% of gross domestic product in the financial year that ended in June, according to data on Tuesday that underlines the severe economic crisis facing the country.

The deficit size compared with a 7.1% estimate Prime Minister Imran Khan's government gave in June and with 6.6% during the year that ended in June 2018.

Pakistan, which in July sealed a $6 billion loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund, has been struggling to avert a balance of payments crisis and to prevent its debt from spiralling out of control.

The full year's deficit figure was released on the finance ministry website. Revenue during the year ended June 30 equalled 12.7% of GDP, a fall from the previous financial year's 15.2%.

The figures showed government expenditure at 21.6% of GDP in the latest financial year, compared with 21.8% a year earlier.

Pakistan has a notoriously narrow tax base, with fewer than 1% of its 208 million people filing income tax returns. There is a vast informal economy and several key sectors of the official economy are largely exempt from tax.

The budget for 2019-20, passed in June, approved measures designed to cut the deficit by bringing in o government coffers the equivalent of 1.7% of GDP. Pakistan has promised a multiyear effort to overhaul its tax and budget system to put its weak public finances on a firmer footing.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is keeping a close eye on the Pakistan-China aerial exercise taking place in China's Hotan City in which both the countries have deployed latest fighter jets.

Islamabad is participating with its JF-17 fighter aircraft while China is taking part with their J-10 and J-11 fighters.

"The exercise codenamed Shaheen is taking place in the Hotan city which is more than 200 km north of Leh city in Ladakh. The Pakistanis have staged their fighters in the Skardu area of Gilgit Baltistan region before going into China," IAF officials said.

The war games had started two days ago where China and Pakistan started active flying to enhance interoperability and jointness.

Pakistan is one of the biggest recipients of the Chinese military, which includes missile technology, fighter planes and warships.

During the recent post-Balakot conflict also, the Pakistani Air Force had relied heavily on Chinese military equipment including fighters.

After the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, both China and Pakistan have expressed concerns over the decision.

While China has issues over Ladakh being declared as a Union Territory, Pakistan has been making a hue and cry over the changes made in Kashmir.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to address the nation on the Kashmir issue on Monday.

This was announced by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan. However, the time of the address was not disclosed.

"PM will address the nation today on the issue of Kashmir," she tweeted.

The address assumes significance as it comes in the backdrop of tensions between India and Pakistan after New Delhi earlier this month abrogated Article 370 that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir and divided the former state into two Union Territories.

Pakistan has been rattled by the Indian government's move to strip the special status to Jammu and Kashmir and has found itself completely isolated. The country has tried to internationalise the matter but has been snubbed on all fronts.

The international community has made it clear that the Kashmir issue is strictly New Delhi's internal matter.

The Pakistan government has downgraded bilateral ties with India in the wake of the decision and said it will consider all steps to counter what it described "illegal steps" taken by New Delhi.

A political activist has lambasted Pakistan for creating turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir for decades by using terrorism as a tool to set its agenda.

Sardar Saghir, a leader of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) told Tanveer Ahmad, a local journalist, that Pakistan has been using terrorists as proxies to create instability in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The indigenous movement of Kashmir`s liberation was sabotaged in 1947 (by Pakistan) by sending Pashtun tribal forces in the region. In the late 1980s, when the people of Jammu and Kashmir launched another movement, it was highjacked (by Pakistan) in 1989 by forming terror groups such as Hizbul Mujahideen and Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen," Saghir said.

"Later, Hafiz Saeed`s Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) was also brought in. In 1992-93, we condemned these non-state actors, which were brought in by Pakistan`s spy agencies. It has sabotaged our peaceful struggle. The world community is now looking it as an act of terrorism," he added.

Saghir is one of the vocal activists in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), where people are suffering from persecution and terrorism.

"After the 9/11 incident, strict measures were taken against terrorism and our peaceful struggle was backtracked. However, we continued to protest. When Pakistan was pressurised by the international community then besides LeT, they further started promoting Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) headed by Maulana Masood Azhar."

Recently, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan confessed that about 30,000-40,000 terrorists have been trained in some parts of Afghanistan and Kashmir.

The activist added that Pakistan has been using PoK`s territory as a launchpad for terrorists to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.

"Now, JeM terrorists are getting trained at a very large scale to infiltrate into India. The world attention was towards the Kashmir valley, but Pakistan`s intelligence agencies have diverted it deliberately. These militants are infiltrating, getting killed and will be killed in future," he said.

As Pakistan is trying to rake up Kashmir globally, the country found itself sparring with the Maldives over statements made by the foreign ministers of both countries after a telephonic conversation.

On Friday, Pakistan's Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke to his Maldivian counterpart Abdullah Shahid during which Male made it clear that abrogation of article 370 was India's internal matter.

A statement from Maldives foreign ministry stated Shahid saying that the "Maldives viewed the decision taken by India regarding Article 370 of the Indian Constitution as an internal matter."

However, this was denied by Pakistan's foreign minister Qureshi during a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday.

In reply to WION's query, Pakistani foreign minister said, "during my conversation with Maldives foreign minister, there was no mention or talk about this."

Following Qureshi's statement, Maldives foreign ministry immediately reacted and said, "Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement following the telephone conversation is very clear on our position."

The development comes as Sri Lankan President's office came out with a statement after Pakistan High Commission had wrongly attributed a statement on President Maithripala Sirisena and the Pakistani High Commissioner's meet.

The Pak High Commissioner to Sri Lanka on Tuesday met President Sirisena at the request of the former to brief him on India's internal decision on revoking Article 370.

A statement issued by Pakistan High Commission in Colombo said President Sirisena "offered Sri Lanka's mediation and facilitation of dialogue between Pakistan and India to re-activate the SAARC forum."

This was contradicted by Sri Lankan presidential office, which said, "President stated that both India and Pakistan have excellent friendly relations with Sri Lanka and its interest is to see the growth of regional cooperation and friendship", adding, "the president did not make any other comment on the issues pertaining to India and Pakistan."

India's neighbours in the region have backed New Delhi on its August 5 decision to repeal special status for erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

While Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives have called it an internal decision, Nepal and Afghanistan have called Kashmir a bilateral issue between New Delhi and Islamabad.
