In another embarrassment for Pakistan, popular TikTok star Hareem Shah was seen inside a conference room at the foreign ministry office in a video that has gone viral on the Internet.

Hareem, who has over a million fans on the social media video app was seen roaming around the high-security office and even sitting down in the chair used by the foreign minister.

Punjabi and Hindi songs were heard playing in the background of Shah`s video.

After the video was widely shared on the internet and drew criticism from social media users, officials said they have initiated an inquiry in the matter, local media reported.

Shah was quoted by local media on how she managed to get access, "Yes, I got into office after seeking permission. If it was against rules and regulations they should not have allowed me to make a video."

She added, "I also went to National Assembly, I get a pass, get my entry there properly. No security has ever stopped me, I`ve never had any obstacle. No one has helped me, I got in on my own."

Interestingly, the social media personality is no novice when it comes to meeting influential political leaders. She has been pictured with a number of politicians including Fayyaz ul Hasan Chohan.

Previously it was said that Shah was at PM secretariat but focal Person to Imran Khan, Dr Arsalan Khalid has clarified that she was actually at the Foreign Office building and that an investigation into the matter has begun.

In a previous undated snap, the TikTok star was seen posing with the Pakistani Prime Minister, which left people wondering about whether the two met before or after the video went viral.

Twitter users also wondered how Shah gained access to the building. A few people also questioned the "seriousness of this PTI Government"

Religious persecution and violence against women are some of the most salient features of Pakistan, said Sindhi-American Human Rights activist Fatima Gul at the United States House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on `Human Rights in South Asia` here on Tuesday (local time).

"Religious persecution remains a salient feature of Pakistan. Hindus, Christians, Ahmedis, Shias, Balochs continued to be victimised by religious extremists who operate with the government impunity. Pakistan is the only country in the world that legislated against its own citizens," Gul informed the US House panel over incidents related to violence committed by Pakistan against the ethnic minorities in its own soil."

Pakistan ranks as Sixth most dangerous country for women in regards to violence and rape.

According to Human Rights Watch, child sexual abuse remains disturbingly common in Pakistan. Around 141 cases have been reported just in Lahore in Punjab province of Pakistan.

In the first half of 2018, according to the police reports, more than 1,000 Hindu girls have been abducted and converted to Islam. Nearly, 33 per cent rise in child abuse cases have been witnessed in the country," the activist added.

Elaborating on more facts of victimising minorities in Pakistan, Gul said that on September 15 this year, religious extremists attacked temples, houses, schools, and Hindus in Ghotki town of Sindh province in Pakistan.

She said that the mob left chaos and terror across neighbourhoods as the attacks were carried out on the pretext that a Sindhi Hindu professor named Notan Lal had committed blasphemy. Despite a lack of evidence he was taken into police custody, she said.

"These attacks which lasted for over a week were completely blacked out by Pakistani media," Gul said while stressing on the seriousness of the human rights situation in Pakistan who is rather flagging baseless arguments over the atrocities in Kashmir.

The activist also noted that since the 1990s, some 70 people have been killed for blasphemy; around 40 people are currently serving life sentences while the others are facing death row.

She said based on eyewitnesses, Pakistani military supports terrorists who have carried out massacres of Hazaras- a community whose population today hardly reaches five million mostly concentrate in Quetta, Balochistan.

"For the last four years, Hazaras have been terrified to do even simple tasks like going to their jobs and sending their kids to schools," Gul noted.

In order to second her remarks, Gul also recalled that a bipartisan group of 10 influential American lawmakers in July this year had asked US President Donald Trump to raise the issue of human rights abuses in the Sindh province in his meeting with the visiting Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Concluding her statement, the activist recommended that Pakistan should pass legislation that criminalises forced conversions of the young girls of whom a majority are minors.

"The country should allow journalists and other human rights organisations to take into account the full review of the human rights situation there," she added.

Meanwhile, responding to other panellists during the discussion over the human rights situation in Kashmir, senior Indian journalist from Kashmir, Aarti Tikoo Singh, outlined the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir and said, "The very assumption that I keep hearing in this panel is Kashmir is a `state`. But I want to correct that it is a `union territory` which is now divided into Jammu and Kashmir -- with a Hindu majority in Jammu and Muslim majority in the Valley."

The health care and other emergency services are all in place in Kashmir, noted the journalist while adding that this is not the first time when Kashmir is in lockdown.

"Back in 2016, Kashmir was put under lockdown by militants and separatists backed by Pakistan for at least six months. So, the hospitals and other necessary services in Kashmir are used to such contingencies and have functioned smoothly in previous lockdowns as well. So to say that this particular lockdown was different is wrong," Tikoo asserted.

Pak former PM Nawaz Sharif moved to hospital after his health worsens

The ousted prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif was shifted to a hospital on Monday after his health conditions drastically deteriorated due to "critically" low platelet count.

The news was shared by Sharif's personal physician Dr Adnan Malik who after meeting the stalwart in Adiala jail took to Twitter stating that the former prime minister's health required immediate in-hospital care.

"Today met former PM Nawaz Sharif for consultation and evaluation. He is visibly unwell and has multiple serious life-threatening health issues of acute nature. I have recommended immediate hospitalisation for workup and treatment. The matter is of utmost urgency," Malik said.

Sharing details of his health report on social media, the physician added, "Former PM NawazSharif is detected to have critically low Platelet Count that could be due to multiple pathologies and requires immediate in-hospital care."

"I have requested the concerned authorities to act in urgency," Malik added.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has also said that the government's act of not shifting the former prime minister earlier to a hospital for medical care was the worst example of political vengeance and insensitivity, the News International reported.

"If anything happens to Nawaz Sharif, we will blame Imran Khan for it," he said.

Sharif is currently under a 14-day physical remand granted by the NAB in connection to the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.

The jailed leader was arrested by NAB on October 11 and was produced before an accountability court in Lahore. The court has ordered the accountability bureau to present Nawaz on October 25.

Sharif is already serving a seven-year imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Mills corruption case.

His place in both squads was taken by 27-year-old Mohammad Rizwan, whose only Test was in New Zealand in 2016.

The exit from Twenty 20 internationals means curtains for Malik who had already announced retirement from Tests and one-day internationals.

Hafeez was part of Pakistan's Twenty 20 squad in South Africa earlier this year but was not played. At 39, he has little hope of competing in international cricket again.

Pakistan will play three Twenty 20 internationals in Sydney (November 3), Canberra (November 5) and Perth (November 8).

The two Tests will be in Brisbane (Nov 21-25) and Adelaide (Nov 29-Dec 03).

Head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq said Pakistan need to do well in Australia following a disappointing summer.

"We need to play aggressive cricket to achieve better results there," said Misbah. "We have some exciting youngsters in the pace squad who could be surprise packages."

The Test pace attack, hampered by the untimely retirement of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz earlier this year, includes 16-year-old Nasim Shah and 19-year-old Musa Khan who have played just five and seven first-class matches respectively.

Imran Khan senior, 32, returns to the Test squad after playing his last Test during the Australian tour in 2017.

Prolific leg-spinner Yasir Shah will be assisted by 33-year-old left-arm spinner Kashif Bhatti in Tests.

And leg-spinner Usman Qadir, son of the late legendary leggie Abdul Qadir, will be part of the Twenty20 squad, with Misbah citing his experience playing in Australia's Big Bash Twenty20 league earlier this year.

The lanky 37-year-old Mohammad Irfan, who played the last of his 20 Twenty 20 internationals in the Twenty 20 World Cup in India three years ago, is also part of the shorter format.

"The Defence Ministry is scheduled to consider the Army proposal worth around Rs 10,000 crore for acquiring two regiments of the Akash Prime or extended performance Akash missiles. The Akash Prime Missile is an upgraded version of the missile system already existing in the Army," government sources told ANI.

The proposal would be discussed at the meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council scheduled to be held today after the return of Army Chief General Bipin Rawat and Defence Minister from Ladakh.

The Akash missile system has been developed in India by DRDO and has proven to be highly successful in the defence forces. The Army already has two regiments of the missile and is looking to add two more for deployment on Pakistan and China border.

Even though the Army is facing minor issues with servicing of the system due to involvement of two production agencies including the Bharat Electronics Limited and the Bharat Dynamics Limited, it is generally happy with missile`s performance.

The present order of two regiments was earlier to be given to foreign vendors but the Narendra Modi government decided in favour of `Make in India` in defence.

Recently, the Cabinet Committee on Security headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared the project for the Air Force to buy seven squadrons of the surface to air missile.

During an exercise in Surya Lanka held last year, the Akash missile system was tested along with all other air defence missiles including Israeli ones in the Indian Air Force inventory and it came out as the best performer.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had successfully test-fired AKASH-MK-1S, the surface to air missile from ITR, Chandipur, Odhisa on May 25 and 27 this year. Akash Mk1S is an upgrade of existing AKASH missile with indigenous Seeker.

Indian armed forces capable of deterring all threat: Naqvi on artillery attack

Hours after the Indian Army launched an artillery attack on terrorist camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Sunday, defence experts have lauded the move saying the Army has ensured that the terrorists do not enter into our country.

"Indian Army took the action after receiving information that terrorists were at a camp trying to enter into Indian territory. Our forces have hit these camps and neutralised many of them ensuring these terrorists do not enter into our country," Defence Expert Shivalee Deshpande told ANI on Sunday.

She lauded the move saying this is a major action by the Indian Army and we have to continue this to keep Pakistan at bay.

"In a bid to divert Indian soldiers, Pakistani forces usually give these terrorists cover fire when they try to enter into Indian territory. Similarly, Pakistani soldiers violated ceasefire, in which two Indian soldiers were killed," Deshpande said.

She said that the terrorists had been trying to cross the border since yesterday but failed because of vigilance in the area.

Another defence expert DS Dhillon has said that the Army had credible information that over 200 terrorists were gathered at several terror camps in the region.

"The Indian Army targeted camps with the most concentration of terrorists and neutralised them. Since the target was within 15 km, the artilleries would have accurately hit them," Dhillon said.

Retired Lieutenant General PN Hoon, on the other hand, has said that if we know their location, we should target them using our helicopters and aircraft as well.

"During my time, I had instructed the soldiers under my command to shoot anyone who tries to cross the border. If we know where these terrorists are, why shouldn`t we use artillery guns to neutralise them? I say we should send our helicopters and aircraft and neutralise them," Hoon said.

Indian army targets terror camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir

Prime Minister Imran Khan will not put down his resignation papers 'under any circumstances', the federal government said on Saturday after the opposition parties called off negotiations and vouched to go ahead with their 'Azadi march' to hold anti-government protests countrywide over the incumbent government's failure to fulfil any of its promises so far.

The opposition parties called to "restore 'real' democracy in the country" and urged the Prime Minister to resign.

Express Tribune quoted Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, the head of the government committee formed to hold talks with the opposition parties, as saying at a news conference, "The prime minister [Imran Khan] will not resign under any circumstances."

"It is impossible to accept the opposition parties' demand [for the prime minister's resignation] and they only want to intimidate the government, but we will take action they stick to their stance," the minister added.

Khattak was accompanied by Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, who is also a member of the committee formed by the prime minister particularly with the aim to hold talks with the opposition parties.

The development comes after Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl's (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had refused to call off his October 31 anti-government march, backed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) until the prime minister's resignation.

Reiterating the government's offer to negotiate, Khattak said, "We have included the National Assembly speaker [Asad Qaiser] and the Punjab Assembly speaker [Pervaiz Elahi] in the negotiating committee. The opposition parties should sit down with us and speak to us about their demands, which will be examined."

The minister said the government was serious about addressing the opposition's issues.

"If they have any evidence of rigging [in the 2018 general elections], they can present it to the parliamentary committee formed for this purpose," he proposed.

On October 18, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had also called for the anti-government demonstrations and expressed support to JUI-F's 'Azadi March'.

"We don't accept this artificial democracy... the democratic and socio-economic rights of the masses shall be restored... and for that Imran Khan has to resign," Bhutto had said in his address at a party rally in Karachi.

He said all opposition parties had decided that the government must step down.

"Our anti-government movement has started from Karachi," he said, as he announced his plan for further protests across the country.

He said the PPP will protest in Thar on October 23, demonstrate in Kashmir on 26th whereas rallies in Punjab will begin from November 1.

"We will tour the entire country and when we return from Kashmir, you [Imran Khan] will have to go...We will expose your incompetence in every nook and corner of the country."

Meanwhile, the government warned that the opposition parties' refusal to come to the negotiating table on the JUI-F 'Azadi march' meant that they were working on an anti-Kashmir agenda and the state will enforce its writ allowing the "law to take its course" if they went ahead with the rally.

Khattak warned that there could be chaos in the country if the opposition remained stubborn and refused to opt for dialogue.

A few weeks ago, the JUI-F chief had termed the current government a result of the fake election and fake results.

Pakistan PM won't resign 'under any circumstances': Government on opposition's 'Azadi March'

Several student organisations under the banner of Students Educational Alliance on Thursday continued their protests for the fourth consecutive day over alleged harassment and blackmail of students by some officials of Balochistan University.

The demonstrators, who staged their protest outside the Quetta Press Club, alleged that the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Balochistan (UoB) was responsible for the entire scandal as VC was the 'head of blackmailers and saviour of the culprits', reported Express Tribune.

The protesting students marched through the campus to put pressure on the officials to take action against the culprits.

Earlier on Wednesday, Professor Dr Kaleem Ullah Barech, representing the Academic Staff Association, while addressing a press conference, said: "The association has raised its voice against varsity administration, including its financial and ethical corruption, for last several years."

The scandal came to light about a month ago after the Balochistan High Court (BHC) directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate the reports of students being harassed at the varsity.

Later, FIA discovered that both male and female students were being blackmailed by some staff members through some 'objectionable' videos, recorded through CCTV cameras hidden at various spots on the campus including washrooms.

Balochistan Governor Amanullah Khan Yasinzai, who is also the chancellor of all provincial universities, on Thursday vowed to take strict action against those involved in the case.

"Whosoever found involved in demoralising educational structure in Balochistan will be brought to justice because the UoB's scandal has triggered anger in society," the governor said.

Urging the student organisations and teacher associations to refrain from provoking the society until completion of the FIA probe, he said: "The hooligans who harassed and blackmailed students would be dealt with strictly and punished for maligning the mother educational institution of Balochistan."

Condemning the scandal, Balochistan National Party's (BNP) Lashkari Raisani asked the Vice-Chancellor to resign. He also noted that the scandal had shaken the students' trust in educational institutions.

Taking cognizance, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has placed the issue on the agenda of VC's meeting to be held on October 21.

"The meeting will discuss existing regulations that address such acts as well as additional measures that might be needed to make university campuses safe and secure places. The university heads will also discuss the funding issues of the higher learning institutions," HEC said in a press release.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday urged Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to take back proposed service charge of US $20 for each visiting pilgrim to Kartarpur Sahib and said if the neighbouring country, which is facing financial crisis, needs the money invested there in the development of the Sikhs shrine, the Sikhs will transfer the amount.

"It is very sad that in the name of pilgrimage services, the Pakistan government is charging `jazia` (a tax on non-Muslims) of US $20 for each devotee visiting Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara. If you calculate together, it will be around Rs 255 crore annually, the amount Pakistani government would be getting through this. I appeal Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Sahib. Please don`t charge this," BJP National Secretary R P Singh told ANI.

He said the proposed Pakistani service charge of US $20 a visitor was against the basic spirit of Sikh ideology and Imran Khan should understand it.

"I have been told that they invested money in Kartarpur Sahib. Let us know one time the amount you invested there. We would request SGPC to open an escrow account. And Sikhs will send the money to you," Singh, a prominent Sikh face of BJP in Delhi said.

He said the devotees wishing to visit Kartarpur are not only Sikhs but Sindhis and from other religious communities and there are many who can`t even afford $20.

"We know that you need money. We know your government is in financial crisis. Let us know how much money you have invested in Kartarpur Sahib Corridor or how much money you need for its maintenance. Let us know. We would make a request to SGPC. Money can be transferred to Pakistan government," said Singh.

Calling the service charge as "jazia tax", the BJP leader said he will write a letter to Imran Khan requesting "please don`t charge this tax".

Singh also slammed Congress and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for missing the opportunity to barter over 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war in 1971 for Kartarpur Sahib and said, even Nankana Sahib could have been brought to Indian side on this account.

"Sikhs at large pray that all those places left behind Pakistan should get the opportunity to visit there. But the people who decided demarcation at that time did not think of it. Not only that, in 1971, when over 90,000 Pakistani soldiers were with us, we could have decided to bring Kartarpur Sahib to our side," he said.

"Even Nankana Sahib could have been brought to our side. Indira Gandhi could have taken a call and could have barter that soldiers for Kartarpur Sahib and Nankana Sahib. The rulers that time didn`t think of it. We are thankful to PM Modi who has taken initiative to for Kartarpur Sahib," he added.

In 1971, India won the war against Pakistan that resulted in the birth of Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). On August 2, 1972, India and Pakistan signed the Shimla Agreement under which India agreed to release all the 93,000 Pakistani prisoners of war. It was also the largest military surrender after World War II.

Pakistan will formally inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor on November 9, the country's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Saturday.

He also said that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Pakistan as a 'yatri' and not as chief guest for the corridor's opening.

"Pakistan will open the Kartarpur corridor on November 9. I had invited former PM of India Manmohan Singh. I'm thankful to him, he wrote me a letter and said, 'I'll come but not as a chief guest but an ordinary man.' We'll welcome him even if he comes as an ordinary man," Qureshi told reporters here.

The Pakistan government had earlier this month extended an invitation to Manmohan Singh for the inauguration of the corridor. However, Congress sources said that the former Prime Minister will not accept the invite.

On October 3, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh ruled out a visit to Pakistan for the Kartarpur corridor opening, making it clear that he would be only leading the first all-party 'jatha' to the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara to pay obeisance.

Pakistan to inaugurate Kartarpur corridor on November 9

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday targeted the Congress over India not having a corridor connecting Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan for seven decades and also over the key pilgrimage centre linked to Guru Nanak Dev being allowed to be in the neighbouring country during partition though it was only about four kilometres away from the international border.

Addressing an election rally at Ellenabad in Sirsa district, Modi said the distance between the holy place and the pilgrims will end through the corridor to be inaugurated next month and it had taken 70 years to do so.

"The distance between us and the holy place of our guru Kartarpur Sahib is going to end. The opportunity has come after seven decades. Seventy years have gone. What can be a bigger misfortune that we had to see the big centre of our faith through binoculars for seven decades," he said.

"Those responsible for deciding the boundary in 1947, did they not think that the devotees and the Guru should not be separated by four kilometres. After this, should Congress not have tried to remove the distance in the last 70 years?" Modi asked.

The Prime Minister stated that the Central government is planning to celebrate this event around the world and a national highway will now be known as Guru Nanak Dev Marg.

"The BJP government is making efforts to familiarise the world with the historic occasion of 550th Prakash Parv. The national highway constructed between Kapurthala and Goindwal Sahib near Tarn Taran will now be known as Guru Nanak Devji Marg," Modi said.

He alleged that the Congress and its allies had not given respect to India`s traditions.

"Congress and its allies have never given respect to the faith, traditions and culture of the Indians. The approach of Congress towards our places of worship, it is their same approach with Jammu-Kashmir. They kept on complicating the problems and did not make an honest attempt to solve them," Modi said.

The rally was held on the last day of campaign for assembly polls in Haryana.

Pak's denial for entrance to Steven Butler of CPJ, Press freedom dies by the day in Pakistan

Rights organisations have slammed Pakistani authorities after a member of a leading media watchdog was denied entry to the country, calling the move a "slap in the face to those concerned about press freedom".

Immigration officials at Lahore airport Thursday told Steven Butler -- the Asia programme coordinator of The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) -- he was on an Interior Ministry "stop list", the rights group said.

Butler had travelled to Pakistan on a valid visa to attend a human rights conference in Lahore, according to CPJ and organisers of the event.

After arriving in the country, Pakistani officials confiscated his travel documents and Bulter was put on a plane back to Doha and later to Washington, CPJ said.

"Pakistani authorities' move to block Steven Butler from entering the country is baffling and is a slap in the face to those concerned about press freedom in the country," said Joel Simon, CPJ’s executive director, said in a statement.

"If the government is interested in demonstrating its commitment to a free press, it should conduct a swift and transparent investigation into this case."

Last year, Butler had authored a CPJ report warning that the powerful Pakistani military had "quietly, but effectively, set restrictions on reporting".

Pakistan's ministry of interior and information both refused to comment on the case when contacted by AFP.

Brad Adams, executive director of Human Rights Watch's Asia division, called the move "alarming" and demanded the government "reverse the decision and take urgent steps towards providing an enabling environment for free expression".

The organiser of the event also voiced concerns.

"The theme of this year's conference itself was freedom of expression. If they are doing this to a member of a media watchdog what else is left?" said Munizae Jahangir, an organiser of the Asma Jahangir Conference-Roadmap for Human Rights in Pakistan.

The move comes amid growing complaints from the media in Pakistan that they have been subjected to increasing censorship and pressure following the election of Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2018.

Earlier this week Pakistani news outlet Geo announced that they were unable to broadcast a press conference of a leading opposition member after receiving a warning from regulatory authorities.

"Broadcasts in today's Pakistan are arbitrarily suspended in a manner better suited to repressive regimes where 'autonomous' regulatory authorities are in reality a handmaiden of the state," read an editorial in the Pakistani daily Dawn on Friday in response to the incident.

Pakistan routinely ranks among the world's most dangerous countries for media workers, and reporters have frequently been detained, beaten and even killed for being critical of the government or the powerful military.

In recent years the space for dissent has shrunk further, with the government announcing a crackdown on social networks and traditional media houses decrying pressure from authorities they say has resulted in widespread self-censorship.
