<p>Though it is available across the world, the makers of ChatGPT haven’t made their AI chatbot accessible in the Asian country. But that hasn’t stopped the tech-savvy enthusiasts from using it.</p>

<p>According to a report by Wired, ChatGPT logins are selling like hotcakes on e-commerce platforms like Taobao—China’s biggest online site, where hundreds of thousands of merchants offer everything from iPhone cases to foreign driver’s licenses.</p>

<p>Till February, more than 600 online vendors were reportedly selling ChatGPT logins&nbsp;for prices ranging from 1-30 RMB ($0.17-$4.28). Over the months, demand has shot through the roof with some stores making thousands of sales.</p>

<p>However, the burgeoning popularity of ChatGPTs has also spawned many copycats. Tencent’s WeChat, for instance, reportedly has emerged the sole platform where knockoffs of the AI bot are being downloaded.</p>

<p>These apps are basically sub-applications on the platform like “ChatGPT Online” which offer users a handful of free questions before charging for time using a chatbot.</p>

<p>These intermediaries ask ChatGPT questions for users and then send the answers back.</p>

<p>However, many Chinese tech companies have clamped down on black market logins. According to the report, Taobao has banned keywords like OpenAI and ChatGPT whereas WeChat also restricts similar services.</p>

<p>Even though OpenAI hasn’t announced anything about launching ChatGPT in China, many big Chinese tech companies are trying to launch their own ChatGPT-like product.</p>

<p>On February 7, Baidu announced it would launch Ernie bot (“Wen Xin Yi Yan” in Chinese) for internal testing in March. The bot will be based on Ernie 3.0-Titan, a large language model that Baidu has been developing since 2019.</p>

Elon Musk reacts after ChatGPT deems him ‘controversial’

<p>Google has announced an experimental AI-powered chatbot called Bard in a bid to catch up with its rival OpenAI’s wildly popular chatbot ChatGPT, which is backed by Microsoft.</p>

<p>Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a blog post on Tuesday wrote that Bard is an experimental service that will be made available for public testing.</p>

<p>Pichai’s announcement comes even as Google gets ready to host an AI event on Wednesday.</p>

<p>The new AI-powered conversation service is based on Google’s LaMDA technology, which is known as Language Model for Dialogue applications.</p>

<p>LaMDA was in the news recently after a&nbsp;Google engineer claimed that the chatbot was sentient.</p>

<p>Based on the screenshots Google shared, it is understood that Bard will be able to answer in a conversational manner, with longer paragraphs similar to how ChatGPT works at the moment.</p>

<p>It will help users understand complex topics such as understanding the James Webb Space Telescope, or provide detailed answers to user prompts such as "plan a friend’s baby shower", "compare two Oscar-nominated movies," or "get lunch ideas based on what's in your fridge".</p>

<p>China’s multinational tech conglomerate Baidu Inc. on Tuesday announced that it would complete the internal testing of an AI-chatbot project called “Ernie Bot” in March, joining the global race of the AI age.</p>

<p>Ernie, which means meaning “Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration,” is a large AI-powered language model introduced in 2019, Baidu said.</p>

<p>It has gradually grown to be able to perform tasks including language understanding, language generation, and text-to-image generation, it added.</p>

<p>Search engine giant Baidu’s Hong Kong-listed shares jumped as much as 13.4% on the news.</p>

Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a blog post on Tuesday wrote that Bard is an experimental service that will be made available for public testing. Pichai’s announcement comes even as Google gets ready to host an AI event on Wednesday. The new AI-powered conversation service is based on Google’s LaMDA technology, which is known as Language Model for Dialogue applications. LaMDA was in the news recently after a Google engineer claimed that the chatbot was sentient. Based on the screenshots Google shared, it is understood that Bard will be able to answer in a conversational manner, with longer paragraphs similar to how ChatGPT works at the moment. It will help users understand complex topics such as understanding the James Webb Space Telescope, or provide detailed answers to user prompts such as "plan a friend’s baby shower", "compare two Oscar-nominated movies," or "get lunch ideas based on what's in your fridge". And today, we’re taking another step forward by opening it up to trusted testers ahead of making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks.” Pichai said Bard is a much smaller and lightweight model compared to ChatGPT and it which will “require significantly less computing power, enabling us to scale to more users, allowing for more feedback.” Pichai’s blog post also made it clear that the company plans to integrate AI-powered features in its search engine. China’s Baidu joins AI race China’s multinational tech conglomerate Baidu Inc. on Tuesday announced that it would complete the internal testing of an AI-chatbot project called “Ernie Bot” in March, joining the global race of the AI age. Ernie, which means meaning “Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration,” is a large AI-powered language model introduced in 2019, Baidu said. It has gradually grown to be able to perform tasks including language understanding, language generation, and text-to-image generation, it added. Search engine giant Baidu’s Hong Kong-listed shares jumped as much as 13.4% on the news. <p>The users have widely hailed the AI tool for being able to compose complex essays, jokes, poems marketing pitches and even for clearing the toughest exams.</p>

<p>“Google may be only a year or two away from total disruption. AI will eliminate the Search Engine Result Page, which is where they make most of their money. Even if they catch up on AI, they can't fully deploy it without destroying the most valuable part of their business. The way I imagine this happening is that the URL/Search bar of the browser gets replaced with AI that autocompletes my thought/question as I type it while also providing the best answer (which may be a link to a website or product),” wrote Paul Buccheit, in a series of tweets.</p>

<p>Buccheit further stated that ChatGPT replace the search engines, the way Google replace the Yellow Pages (the information diary which existed before the launch of the Google Search engine) and that the Search Engine Result Page will be eliminated by the AI.</p>
