This remarkable project marks the first overseas endeavour by the NAI to preserve diaspora heritage. The project, titled "The Oman Collection – Archival Heritage of the Indian Community in Oman," saw enthusiastic participation from 32 prominent Indian families, mainly from Gujarat, whose roots in Oman trace back over 250 years. Over 7,000 documents in English, Arabic, Gujarati, and Hindi from these families' private collections have been meticulously scanned and digitised. These documents, dating from 1838 to the early 20th century, include personal diaries, account books, trade invoices, passports, letters, and photographs. They paint a vivid picture of the Indian community's life in Oman, showcasing their cultural practices, social activities, and contributions to Omani society. Indian ambassador to Oman, Amit Narang, emphasised the project's alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening diaspora connections. "By documenting the history of the Indian community in Oman, we are rekindling our shared heritage and fostering deeper engagement," he stated. This initiative is a significant step in safeguarding the rich historical and cultural narratives of the Indian community abroad. Today, nearly 700,000 Indians call Oman home. Indian merchant families from regions like Mandvi and Surat have been integral to Omani society since the late 18th century, contributing to the social and economic fabric of cities such as Sur, Muttrah, and Muscat.

According to the Oman News Agency, the National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) is closely monitoring the situation and has activated the National Emergency Situations Management in order to launch coordinated response efforts.

Flash floods in Oman cause widespread destruction, claim lives of 12

In a gesture of goodwill, India shared 70 selected archival documents with Oman, which dated from 1793 to 1953 covering the entire British Raj period, and were available in the National Archives of India. 
 
The documents, which were of high historic value, were related to the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula and also covered areas of the Arabian Gulf. 
 
India's Ministry of Culture further announced that they also gifted 523 pages of copies of similar historical records to the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) of Oman.

The three-member delegation of&nbsp;NRAA was on a two-day visit to Oman. The delegation included Deputy Director Dr Sanjay Garg and Archivist Sadaf Fatima, in addition to Singhal. 
 
The delegation went across various sections and divisions. The exclusive presentations were given to the delegation by those in charge of different divisions of the NRAA, which included the Electronic Records and Document Management Systems (EDRMS) Section, Microfilm Department, Private Record Section, Access to Record Department, Electronic Storage, and the Conservation Section.

When asked about the next course of action, he said the police would approach the Centre.

Mukesh, a resident of Durg district, told PTI that his wife Dipika went to Oman last March to work as a cook.

He also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"She came in contact with one agent Abdullah from Hyderabad through a person from Khursipar in Bhilai (Durg). The agent facilitated her journey from Kerala to Oman. We (the couple) were initially informed that my wife would work as a cook at a house there, but she was forced to do household chores. It continued for 6-7 months. I had told her to adjust," he said.

Recently, Dipika was assaulted by her employer. Subsequently, I spoke to her employer, a woman, on the phone and asked her to send my wife back but she demanded money&nbsp;for her release, Mukesh claimed.

"I have complained to the police. I also appeal to the prime minister sir to ensure my wife's return to India,"&nbsp;he said.

Mukesh has shared a video of his wife in which she claimed that she was being held captive in Oman.

"Sir, my name is Dipika and I belong to Bhilai (Durg). Someone has trapped me here by telling lies. I am locked here. I was thrashed and assaulted. When I asked them to allow me to go home, they sought money&nbsp;₹&nbsp;2 lakh-Rs 3 lakh from me. They are saying they will sell me to someone else. Please save me, sir. I don't want to be sold. I am in pain. They torture me very much," she said.&nbsp;
