As the leadership of the BJP continues to brainstorm who will be the next chief minister, the BJP faction backs Fadnavis for the post and Shiv Sena leaders are supporting Shinde. To show their support for Shinde, Sena leaders had gathered outside his official bungalow Varsha. However, Sena chief Shinde said on X, "After the great victory of the Mahayuti alliance, our government will be formed once again in the state. As a grand alliance, we contested the election together and are still together today." "Out of love for me, some people have appealed to everyone to gather together and come to Mumbai. I am deeply grateful for your love. But I appeal that no one should come together in my support in such a manner," he added. Watch: Maharashtra: Will The Fight For Maha CM Become The Next Major Political Battle After The Election? Meanwhile, Sena spokesperson Naresh Mhaske proposed the 'Bihar model' of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the state. "We feel Shinde should be the chief minister, just like in Bihar where BJP did not look at the numbers but still made JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar the CM. Senior leaders of the Mahayuti (in Maharashtra) will ultimately take a decision," Mhaske said. However, BJP's Pravin Darekar said the mandate of the people is with Devendra Fadnavis. "The people of Maharashtra stood behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In my opinion, Fadnavis should become the chief minister. Maharashtra needs an astute and academic leader. He kept the alliance united, gave our allies candidates, and even stepped back when required. He has always maintained coordination," said the MLC. Meanwhile, a BJP leader said that the party will not rush into the announcement of the chief ministerial candidate till the distribution of portfolios in the new government of Maharashtra is finalised. "The central leadership is in no hurry to name a candidate for the chief minister's post. We have secured a decisive mandate, and the priority now is to work out a comprehensive plan for government formation. That includes finalising ministerial portfolios and distribution of key posts such as district guardian ministers," said a state BJP leader, while speaking to PTI. According to reports, the new Chief Minister of the state will be sworn in today, (Tuesday, November 26). (With inputs from agencies)

Union Budget 2024: Here's what Nitish's Bihar and Naidu's Andhra get for being key allies

<p>The Indian government on Monday (Jul 22) denied the special category status to the eastern state of Bihar, currently governed by one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's closest allies Nitish Kumar. A member of parliament from Bihar's ruling Janata Dal-United (JDU) had asked the finance ministry whether the special status was being considered for the state.</p>

<p>Responding to this query, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary cleared the air over the matter, giving a blow to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner.</p>

<p>“The decision was made based on an integrated consideration of all factors and the peculiar situation of the state. Earlier, the request of Bihar for special category status was considered by an inter-ministerial group (IMG), which submitted its report on March 30, 2012. The IMG came to the finding that based on existing NDC criteria, the case for special category status for Bihar is not made out,” Chaudhary said in Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament.</p>

<p>As soon as the announcement was made, Bihar's opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party took a shot at Nitish Kumar as well as PM Modi for playing politics over 'special state status'.</p>

<p>“Bihar ko nahin milega Vishesh rajya ka darja (Bihar will not get special state status!),” the RJD posted on X.</p>

<p>“Nitish Kumar and JDU can now comfortably enjoy power at the Centre and continue doing hypocritical politics on 'special state status'!” the post read.</p>

<h2><strong>What is a special status?</strong></h2>

<p>The special status helps a state receive more funding and tax recessions from the central government. The concept was first introduced in 1969 after the recommendations of the Fifth Finance Commission.</p>

<p>Northeastern states, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are some states which got special status in the past.</p>

<p>However, it must be noted that the concept is nowhere mentioned in the Constitution of India and thus no state can force the central government to give it the said status.</p>

As soon as the announcement was made, Bihar's opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party took a shot at Nitish Kumar as well as PM Modi for playing politics over 'special state status'. “Bihar ko nahin milega Vishesh rajya ka darja (Bihar will not get special state status!),” the RJD posted on X. “Nitish Kumar and JDU can now comfortably enjoy power at the Centre and continue doing hypocritical politics on 'special state status'!” the post read. What is a special status? The special status helps a state receive more funding and tax recessions from the central government. The concept was first introduced in 1969 after the recommendations of the Fifth Finance Commission. Northeastern states, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are some states which got special status in the past. However, it must be noted that the concept is nowhere mentioned in the Constitution of India and thus no state can force the central government to give it the said status. Here's how Congress reacted to Tyagi's statement On Saturday (June 8), the Congress refuted the claims made by KC Tyagi that Nitish Kumar was offered the post of the prime minister. “We don't have any such information,” said Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, at the press conference after the Congress Working Committee meeting. While addressing NDA's parliamentary meeting on Friday (June 7), Kumar proposed to name Narendra Modi as the leader of the coalition and said, "Those who have won this time will lose the next elections. 'Meme Fest' of Indian politics: From Nitish Kumar to Melodi, are memes the new political currency?

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), held a meeting of its newly elected MPs at the Central Hall of Parliament today.

NDA government meeting: BJP-led NDA leaders meet to pave the way for the alliance

Despite setbacks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take oath for a third consecutive term, but the biggest takeaway from the 2024 mandate is a more competitive political environment. This is the first time in a decade that PM Modi will not hold a brute majority in parliament. The next government will be buoyed by the BJP’s allies, who have now turned kingmakers. If history is to trust, a coalition government is never without its challenges. How will this impact the next five years? Will coalition politics weaken Modi 3.0?

India Election: What went wrong for BJP? Will coalition politics weaken Modi 3.0?

PM Modi talked at the NDA meeting and declared that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was the "most successful" political party in Indian history and that it was synonymous with "good governance" when speaking to the members in attendance at the conference.

Modi, along with NDA leaders including TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, is expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu today to formally stake claim for government formation.

NDA Meet: Modi says achieving unanimity will be our aim in all decisions

The role of Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) and Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the establishment of the central government has come to light due to the fragmented mandate in the Lok Sabha election. The leaders' previous demands for Andhra Pradesh and Bihar to have special status are probably going to be revived in exchange.

JD(U) places its demands for unconditional support to NDA: Details here

<p><meta name="uuid" content="uuid53bsl7g0Rqrf" />The results of the Lok Sabha elections are out, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) set to form government for a third consecutive time. The opposition INDIA bloc gave a stellar performance, defying the predictions made by the exit polls. Government formation will take place in a few days from now. The INDIA bloc is trying to talk to NDA's coalition partners, in the hope that some of them may change sides and the numbers may finally favour them, paving the way for their government.</p>

<p>On Wednesday (June 5), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar - allies&nbsp;turned rivals - arrived in New Delhi on the same flight to attend the government formation meetings of their respective alliances.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Photos circulated on social media showed&nbsp;Yadav first sitting behind&nbsp;Bihar Chief Minister Kumar on the flight, and then sitting beside him, sparking a buzz. Nitish Kumar has changed his political alliances multiple times and rejoined hands with the NDA (after breaking ties with the INDIA bloc)&nbsp;months before the Lok Sabha elections.</p>

<h2><strong>Tejashwi reacts to photos</strong></h2>

<p>Reacting to the viral photos, Yadav told the news agency ANI, "We greeted each other, I was allotted the seat behind him but he saw me and called me to sit with him." On being asked if there were any political talks, the RJD leader said, "Leave this for now. These things are talked about at the appropriate time. "</p>

<p>In a separate press conference, Yadav was also asked about the viral photos and he said, "We greeted each other. Keep watching what happens."</p>

The results of the Lok Sabha elections are out, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) set to form government for a third consecutive time. The opposition INDIA bloc gave a stellar performance, defying the predictions made by the exit polls. Government formation will take place in a few days from now. The INDIA bloc is trying to talk to NDA's coalition partners, in the hope that some of them may change sides and the numbers may finally favour them, paving the way for their government. On Wednesday (June 5), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar - allies turned rivals - arrived in New Delhi on the same flight to attend the government formation meetings of their respective alliances. Photos circulated on social media showed Yadav first sitting behind Bihar Chief Minister Kumar on the flight, and then sitting beside him, sparking a buzz. Nitish Kumar has changed his political alliances multiple times and rejoined hands with the NDA (after breaking ties with the INDIA bloc) months before the Lok Sabha elections. Tejashwi reacts to photos Reacting to the viral photos, Yadav told the news agency ANI, "We greeted each other, I was allotted the seat behind him but he saw me and called me to sit with him." On being asked if there were any political talks, the RJD leader said, "Leave this for now. These things are talked about at the appropriate time. " In a separate press conference, Yadav was also asked about the viral photos and he said, "We greeted each other. Keep watching what happens." #WATCH | On his viral picture with Bihar CM-JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav says "We greeted each other, I was allotted the seat behind him but he saw me and called me to sit with him..." https://t.co/uqjCQhFrKB pic.twitter.com/UaYAtXDprY — ANI (@ANI) June 5, 2024 × Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term, but the BJP will need the support of other parties in his coalition, primarily -- JD (U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. <p>As the <strong>Lok Sabha election results 2024</strong> on Tuesday (June 4) gave a weak mandate for the governing National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar has emerged as the man of the momemt.&nbsp;</p>
