Sunak reiterated the Conservative attack that Labour's only plan was to increase taxes by £2,000 (over $2,500) per person.&nbsp;

Starmer did not immediately refute this, later dismissing the £2,000 figure as "nonsense." Labour has pledged not to raise income tax or National Insurance if it gains power.

Speaking to an&nbsp;audience member, Starmer shared his working-class background, contrasting it with Sunak's wealth: "I do know the anguish of worrying when the postman comes with a bill, what bill is it, am I going to be able to I pay it? I don’t think the prime minister quite understands."

In his closing remarks, Sunak criticised Starmer: "Keir Starmer is asking you to hand him a blank cheque without explaining its cost or what it will buy. In uncertain times, we simply cannot afford an uncertain prime minister."

According to Reuters, investigators searched his residence as well as his office at the European Parliament in Brussels. French judicial authorities also&nbsp;searched his office at the European Union's assembly in Strasbourg.

The searches, as per prosecutors, were part of an investigation into possible Russian interference.&nbsp;

In a statement, the prosecutor's office said the "searches are part of an investigation into interference, passive corruption and membership in a criminal organisation".

<h2>Who is the staffer under investigation?</h2>

While the prosecutor's office did not disclose the name of the staffer under investigation, AFP citing sources has identified the source of the investigation as Guillaume Pradoura.

Pradoura, as per the report, is a former assistant to Maximilian Krah, embattled EU lawmaker of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and now works for Dutch far-right lawmaker Marcel de Graaff.

On social media platform X, de Graaff expressed his surprise and said that he has learned from media reports that the home and offices of an assistant had been searched.

As per two new reports published by the World Bank on Syria, 13 years into the devastating civil war that has battered the economy and impoverished millions, more than a quarter of people are living in extreme poverty condition. Before the conflict, extreme poverty was "virtually non-existent" said one report.&nbsp;

"Extreme poverty, while virtually non-existent before the conflict, affected more than one in four Syrians in 2022" and might have further deteriorated after a deadly earthquake last year, it said, as reported by AFP. Last year's earthquake killed about 6,000 people.

Even as the war ravages the economy, infrastructure, and industry in Syria, Lebanon's economic meltdown in late 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, have all contributed to the erosion of the welfare of Syrian households in recent years, says the report.&nbsp;

In 2023,&nbsp;Syria's GDP was&nbsp;estimated at around $6.2 billion. In 2024, it is&nbsp;projected to contract by 1.5 per cent, "extending the 1.2 per cent decline in 2023," said the report.

Previously, the United Nations estimated that about 90 per cent of Syrians live in poverty. It also estimates that around two million live in extreme poverty conditions after more than a decade of the war.

In a conversation with AFP, the international agency said that its humanitarian 2024 response plan in Syria requires over $4 billion, but is only six per cent funded.

Many areas of India have been reeling under heat wave conditions for the past few days. On Tuesday (May 21), the highest temperature of 47.8°C in the country was recorded at Haryana's Sirsa.&nbsp;

This comes as power demand&nbsp;across India witnesses a significant rise. On Wednesday afternoon, national capital&nbsp;Delhi clocked its peak power demand of 8000 MW at 3:42 pm. This, as per reports, is&nbsp;the highest ever in the history of the national capital.

Just a day earlier, Delhi had created another record with its peak power demand reaching 7,717 MW on Tuesday afternoon amid intense summer heat, said discom officials.

<h2>Maximum temperature may rise</h2>

On Tuesday, as per IMD, "maximum temperatures were in the range of 44-47°C at many places in Rajasthan; in some places across Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and&nbsp;Gujarat state; in isolated pockets over West Uttar Pradesh; in the range of 40- 44°C in many places over Punjab, Odisha and&nbsp;interior Maharashtra; in some parts of East Uttar Pradesh and&nbsp;Chhattisgarh; in isolated pockets of Telangana."

The temperatures will "very likely" rise by 2-3°C over the next five days, it adds.

"Gradual rises by about 2-3°C in maximum temperatures very likely over many parts of Central India and Maharashtra during next 5 days."

This will be made possible after the government amends the existing 2003 legislation and increases the current sentence for penetrating corpses from two to seven years, said Justice minister Laura Farris, as cited by Daily Mail. The amendment was initially brought forward by Conservative former ministers Greg Clark and Dame Tracey Crouch.

Addressing the House of Commons, Clark said, "All of Fuller's crimes are, frankly, unspeakable, but as well as the current sentencing limit being absurdly inadequate to deal with, in effect, the rape of dead bodies, it does not cover at all any form of sexual assault that is non-penetrative."

He said there was "clearly a gap" in the current law that needs to be patched up, and "That's what this new clause aims to do."

Lending his voice to the more than 100 victims of David Fuller, Clark said they "were robbed of their lives and then their dignity and then the victims".

He added that their families have also been robbed of adequate justice, their devastation "has been heart-breaking".

Justice Minister Farris said, "such was the extent of Fuller's offending, we've had to do so and the Government is pleased to confirm the Sexual Offences Act 2003 will be amended under this legislation to capture the sexual touch of a corpse, with a new maximum sentence of seven years for penetrative offences, and five for non-penetrative acts".

Dubai, which "has long served as a crossroads for commerce" has now "become a meeting point for men and women from around the globe who have been accused of criminality and corruption."

As per the report "for those looking to launder or hide cash" Dubai, which has a reputation for financial secrecy, low taxes, and an ever-expanding spread of valuable real estate, is an appealing option.

According to Radha Stirling, an attorney and human rights advocate leading the legal assistance organisation 'Detained in Dubai,' UAE authorities use high-profile fugitives as "bargaining chips."

"The presence of extradition agreements between nations are not necessarily key to whether or not people are extradited," said Stirling.

According to Sauod Abdulaziz Almutawa, an officer from Dubai police’s anti-money laundering department, "What matters is what Dubai wants in return and whether that nation has something they want enough to barter."

Emirate's justice system, as per Jodi Vittori, a Georgetown University professor studying corruption and illicit finance, is 'a black hole'.

"It is unclear why the UAE will work with some law enforcement in some cases to arrest criminals located in the UAE and in other cases, they do not," she told OCCRP adding, "In many ways, the UAE is a law enforcement black hole."

On May 9, Mukhey was waiting at the Burnt Oak Broadway bus stop in the Edgware area of London when the accused Jalal Debella stabbed her in the chest and neck. She died on the spot.
