Having already executed two protesters connected with the ongoing anti-Hijab protests, the Iranian judiciary on Monday confirmed the death sentence of another man accused of violence during the protests. "Mohammad Boroghani's death sentence was upheld on December 6 by the Supreme Court," reported the judiciary's Mizan Online website. Boroghani was charged after wounding a security personnel with a knife with the intent to kill him. According to the authorities, the accused also set ablaze the governor's office in Pakdasht, a city situated 43 kilometres away from the capital Tehran. Ever since the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman named Mahsa Amini allegedly at the hands of Iran's morality police in September, the country has plunged into a sea of demonstrations. WATCH | Iran: Anti-hijab protests rock the nation, story of a death and a 'bloody' clampdown × The Iranian government has come down heavily upon the protesters and is now executing them with the judiciary firmly backing their objective. Notably, Mohsen Shekari became the first protester to be executed last month after he was convicted of wounding a paramilitary force member. “Mohsen Shekari, a rioter who blocked Sattar Khan Street in Tehran on September 25 and wounded one of the security guards with a machete, was executed this morning," The judiciary said that Shekari drew his weapon "with the intention of killing, causing terror and disturbing the order and security of society". Days after Shekari's execution, another Iranian named Majid Reza Rahnavard was executed by hanging in public for a similar offence as Boroghani and Shekari Read more: Iranians fearful executions will increase as West remains preoccupied with the holiday season The Iranian officials in their lexicon have called the protests 'riots' and used them as an excuse to kill hundreds of people. The truckers' "Freedom Convoy 2.0" demonstration scheduled to take place in Ottawa next month, a year after the city was brought to a grinding halt, has been called off.

The truckers' "Freedom Convoy 2.0" demonstration scheduled to take place in Ottawa next month, a year after the city was brought to a grinding halt, has been called off. James Bauder, the founder of a group called Canada Unity which oversaw the organising of the protests last year, said the repeat event was cancelled because he could not "guarantee public safety" and that going ahead with the protests could have invited severe sanctions. Bauder cited "several security breaches and personal character attacks" on himself as another reason for backing out of the event, according to an AFP report. In December, Bauder said he would bring a four-day event back to Ottawa on the first anniversary of the 2022 demonstration and that all the big rigs would make daily trips to Parliament Hill. However, after the authorities suggested that they would take a 'zero-tolerance' approach toward such a protest, Bauder said he would take the convoy to Winnipeg instead. In a Facebook post, Bauder, however, hinted at staging a comeback in 2024 after a year of 'solid' planning. "If the plan goes well, in Feb 2024. (will take a solid year to plan properly) I will be in Toronto with Team Canada Unity attending as a guest at a Sacred Ceremony event that could be viewed as Biblical... (No peeking) First, let's get to the Truth." WATCH | Canada's freedom convoy sparks inspiration in Europe: Protestors will drive to Brussels, Paris × What was Freedom Convoy? The protest initially started as a rally against the vaccine requirement for cross-border truckers. However, soon, the truckers changed their tune and the rally became a demonstration against the Canadian government's overreach during the pandemic as protesters took an anti-vaccination stance. While the protests largely remained non-violent, Trudeau, not used to facing resistance in his backyard, invoked the Emergencies Act and became the first Canadian PM to do so. Testifying in front of an independent public commission in November last year, Trudeau defended the decision to use 'emergency powers'. "It wasn’t that they just wanted to be heard. They wanted to be obeyed. I am absolutely, absolutely serene and confident that I made the right choice in agreeing with the invocation," said Trudeau. People who have resided in 23 wards of Tokyo for more than five years in the last decade are eligible for this aid. Also eligible are parents who have been commuting to these wards from other areas in Tokyo during the same time frame.

Every household of movers will in principle receive one million yen. The financial aid increases with every child by an additional 300,000 yen.

This aid is conditional on meeting one of three conditions: if they remotely continue with the same work they did prior to re-location, they get employment in a small or midsize company in the area they relocated to or start a new business there.

Starting in April, a couple with two children will be eligible for up to three million yen, which will not be subject to an income test for support.

Applicants have to report to the local government within three months to one year of moving and must live in the relocated area for at least five years. If they move before the end of that period, they'll have to return the aid.

A new study has revealed that the world needs better vaccines and vaccination campaigns as 50 to 70 per cent of kids below the age of 19 were vulnerable to SARS-Cov-2 in 2021 before the Omicron wave. The study said, "Findings indicate that, by the end of 2021 and before the Omicron wave, around 50-70 per cent of children globally were still susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection, clearly emphasising the need for more effective vaccines and better vaccination coverage among children and adolescents, particularly in developing countries and minority ethnic groups."

It additionally discovered that the global seroprevalence estimates varied from the first wave at 7.3 per cent to the fifth wave at 37.6 per cent and 56.6 per cent in the sixth wave.

Seroprevalence is referred to the number of children who tested positive for specific anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, using a well-designated threshold, divided by the number of children tested.

It was found that the highest level of seroprevalence was found for South East Asia 17.9 to 81.8 per cent and the lowest was for the Western Pacific region between 0.01 and 1.01 per cent.

The study said that the scientists conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis in which they searched in international and pre-printed scientific databases from December 2019 to July 10 2022.

Indian rupee this year ended at a low of over 10%, the worst since 2013, becoming one of Asia's worst-performing currencies.

Canada has placed a ban on foreigners buying property. The ban which took effect on Sunday aims to make homes available to Canadians facing a housing crunch.

It is not a blanket ban and allows certain individuals such as refugees and permanent residents who are not citizens to purchase the property. Furthermore, it only applies to city dwellings and not to recreational properties like summer cottages etc.

As per AFP, the measure is temporary and will be in place for two years. About a year back when soaring housing prices were putting house ownership beyond the reach of many Canadians, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had proposed this measure as part of his 2021 electoral campaign.

Following a win, Trudeau's Liberal party introduced the Prohibition on the Purchase of Residential Property by Non-Canadians Act.

However, as per the Canadian Real Estate Association, the average home price last month fell to Can $630,000 (US $465,000) last month from more than Can $800,000 (US $590,000) at the start of 2022.

Foreign buyers according to the national statistical agency account for less than five per cent of homeowners in Canada. Hence many experts as per AFP have said that a ban on them would not make housing more affordable, rather they say more housing construction is needed to meet the demand.

As per a June estimate by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation about 19 million housing units will be needed by 2030. This means that the construction of 5.8 million new homes is needed.
