In Argentina, the annual inflation rate has soared to a high of 104.3 per cent. The astounding high was revealed by the nation's official statistics agency on Friday. Reuters reports that this is one of the highest inflation rates in the world. Argentina's soaring prices have badly dented people's salaries and have pushed up poverty in the nation to 40 per cent.

Argentina, which is one of the world's major grain exporters, is currently grappling with one of the worst droughts in its history. The dry season has reportedly "hammered" soy, corn and wheat crops, and lost exports and falling domestic prices have knocked billions off the country's economy.

"The number we see today represents the worst moment of the impact of the war on international prices and the worst drought in history in our country," said presidential spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti on Twitter.

"We know, it hurts us, it occupies us, how this affects daily life and every family," she said adding that the government is "redoubling" its efforts and that they hoped a downward trend in inflation would be "reflected soon."

"In my case, I have zero capacity to save," said Claudia Hernansaez, a publishing company employee while talking to Reuters.

The inflation rate for the month registered at 7.7 per cent, significantly exceeding the 7.1 per cent that analysts had anticipated, and making it the highest monthly growth since 2002. This puts additional strain on the government, which is confronted with agitated citizens prior to the October elections.

The inflationary crisis is Argentina's worst since 1991, a year that as per Reuters marked the end of a period of hyperinflation. With the increase in inflation, approval ratings for the nation's President Alberto Fernandez have taken hits and are currently hovering just above 20 per cent. Inflation is expected to be one of the deciding issues for voters in the upcoming October elections.

North Korea has claimed it has tested a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile. If this is true, it marks a major breakthrough in Kim Jong-Un's banned weapons program. Testing the more technologically advanced solid-fuel missile has been on Kim's wishlist for a long time. What is solid-fuel technology? What does the latest test mean for escalating tensions in the Korean peninsula? And what is the path to de-escalation?

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is warning people to not use public phone charging stations or USB ports to avoid exposing their devices to malicious software. The Denver branch in a tweet said, "Avoid using free charging stations in airports, hotels or shopping centres. Bad actors have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices. Carry your own charger and USB cord and use an electrical outlet instead." The organisation told CBS News that there is no specific incident that caused the public announcement, rather was meant as a "field warning." While these charging stations are useful to many when devices are running low on battery, cyber experts have been raising security concerns for years.

In the last four years, the threats designed to propagate over USB or exploit USB for infection rose to 52 per cent, the 2022 USB Threat report by Honeywell Forge said.

In 2011, they introduced the term "juice jacking" to describe the problem.

What is juice jacking?

A term coined in 2011, still remains a concern. It means a security vulnerability in which a tampered or infected USB charging station is used to compromise linked devices.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) officials warned malware installed through corrupted USB ports can lock a device or even export personal data including passwords directly to criminals.

Drew Paik, a former employee of security firm Authentic8 told news agency CNN that plugging your phone into a (compromised) charger infects your device and data. If the port is compromised, then there is no limit to what extent a hacker could access the information. The hacker can even lock your device.

Experts have advised never to use a charger that isn't yours or someone you know.

The FCC in its recent blog post said, "In some cases, criminals may have intentionally left cables plugged in at charging stations. There have even been reports of infected cables being given away as promotional gifts."

Steps to avoid juice jacking?

Like the FBI, FCC recommends public to avoid using public USB charging stations and use a power outlet instead. In case you're travelling, always carry a portable charger or an external battery.

If you don't have any of these and are compelled to use a public station, thoroughly inspect it and if it appears to have been tampered with in any way, don't use it.

As heat wave conditions are rising in several Indian cities, state and central governments have issued guidelines for coping with the adverse weather. The circular issued states that all schools should ensure there is no student assembly during the afternoon shift. These guidelines come as summer vacations in Bengal government schools are preponed by three weeks. This means that the summer holidays for kids studying in govt-aided schools will begin from May 2 instead of May 24, a senior official on Wednesday said. According to the IMD, heatwave conditions will persist over West Bengal during the weekend. Here's everything you need to know about the guidelines issued by the Indian government.

In the statement, the government said, "As the daytime temperature in Delhi crosses more than 40 degrees Celsius during the summer season this is detrimental to the health of the children and adolescents studying in schools. The rise in temperature in NCR has led to the increased instance of heat-related illness."

In 2022, India reported one of the hottest summers with 203 heatwave days, the highest in history. The highest number of heatwave days was reported in Uttrakhand (28), Rajasthan (26), Haryana (24), Punjab (24), Delhi (17) and Uttar Pradesh (15).

What is a Heatwave?

A heatwave is a period of excessive heat or hot weather, which might be accompanied by humidity.

The IMD classifies a day as a heatwave day when the highest temperature reaches a minimum of 40 degrees Celsius and is at least 4.5 degrees highest than the average temperature.

Below are the guidelines issued by the Delhi government:

The first guideline stated, "All Govt/Govt aided/Pvt unaided schools recognised under the Directorate of Education will have to ensure availability of drinking water to students in the schools. Students should be given water breaks during classes."

No student assembly during the afternoon shift.

All schools must sensitise students to cover their heads during the daytime.

Schools must inform nearby hospitals or health facility care if any student suffers from heat-related illness.

On Wednesday, IMD predicted heatwave conditions in several states, saying that the temperature is expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the upcoming days.

IMD Bhubaneswar in a statement said, "Maximum temperature (day temperature) very likely to gradually rise further by 2-3 degree Celsius at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next 2 days and no large change thereafter. Maximum temperature (day temperature) likely to be more than 40 degrees and above normal by 3-5 degrees at a few places over the districts of Odisha during next 4 days."

Last year in December, Zelensky rang up Modi and congratulated India for the G20 presidency. "I had a phone call with @PMOIndia Narendra Modi and wished a successful #G20 presidency. It was on this platform that I announced the peace formula and now I count on India's participation in its implementation. I also thanked for humanitarian aid and support in the UN." tweeted Zelensky at the time. There are several intriguing theories about time travel that have been proposed by physicists, philosophers, and other experts. Here are some of the most notable ones:

The Grandfather Paradox:

This well-known paradox asks what would happen if someone went back in time and killed their grandfather before their parents were born. Would the time traveller vanish, or would another world be created to keep the chronology intact?

Parallel Universes:

According to this hypothesis, time travel could entail seeing a parallel universe or timeline, allowing for changes in history without impacting the traveller's original reality.

Closed Time-like Curves (CTCs):

CTCs are spacetime loops that allow an object to return to its initial point in time, according to general relativity. These have been hypothesised as a viable technique of time travel, but their existence has yet to be verified.

Wormholes:

Wormholes are hypothesised spacetime shortcuts that could connect two distant places, allowing travel not just through space but also through time. Creating stable and traversable wormholes, on the other hand, remains a challenge.

Tipler Cylinder:

This hypothesis, proposed by scientist Frank Tipler, features a gigantic, indefinitely long revolving cylinder. An object might conceivably travel back in time if it travelled around the cylinder in a precise way.

Cosmic Strings:

Cosmic strings are one-dimensional speculative objects with enormous mass and energy. If two cosmic strings collided, they could create a time machine by distorting spacetime around them.

Quantum Entanglement:

According to certain ideas, quantum entanglement could permit time travel by connecting particles across time. The use of entangled particles to send information or objects between various points in time is yet hypothetical.

The Novikov Self-Consistency Principle:

According to this hypothesis, any attempt to change the past will only result in occurrences that are already part of the chronology, avoiding the paradoxes of time travel.

Block Universe Theory:

According to this theory, spacetime is a four-dimensional "block" that encompasses all events from the past, present, and future. Moving through this block of time would entail accessing different timelines or histories.

Time Dilation:

Time travels more slowly for things travelling at near-light speeds, according to Einstein's theory of relativity. This could allow for future time travel because a person travelling at such speeds would experience time moving more slowly than people on Earth.
