A representative of the victims, as cited by Mid Hudson News, said, &ldquo;We are devastated by the loss of our beloved family members Michael, Jared, and Karenna Groff, Joy Saini, Alexia Couyutas Duarte, and James Santoro who died tragically in Saturday afternoon&rsquo;s plane crash in Columbia County, New York. We will remember them as the six brilliant, dynamic, and loving people that they were.&rdquo;

According to the Mid Hudson News report citing family sources, Joy Saini was born in Punjab, India. She immigrated to the US with her parents, Kuljit and Gurdev Singh. Dr Saini was a pelvic surgeon and founded Boston Pelvic Health and Wellness.

Groff was an esteemed neurosurgeon and an avid pilot. He started learning to fly at 16 under his father&rsquo;s guidance, with whom he shared a passion for aviation.
Saini and Groff are survived by their daughter, Anika Groff; Michael&rsquo;s parents, Stephen and Gebena Groff; Joy&rsquo;s mother, Kuljit; and siblings Rinne Groff, Yram Groff, and Prashant Saini, along with their extended family.

<h2>What led to plane crash?</h2>
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Groff had radioed air traffic control just before they crashed. He reported that they missed the initial landing approach and requested a new approach.
While the new coordinates were being prepared, the air traffic controllers issued three low-altitude warnings. However, they did not receive any response, and there was no distress call from the pilot.
According to the video footage reviewed by investigators, the aircraft appeared to be intact but descending rapidly before crashing into the ground at a steep angle, said NTSB official Todd Inman.

Agust&iacute;n Escobar, the president of the Spanish branch of the technology company Siemens, died in the horrific crash along with his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal and their three children, aged 4, 5 and 11. Photos taken by the New York Helicopter Tour on social media show the family posing on a helipad before embarking on their trip, and one picture is from inside the chopper.
The crash happened at around 3:15 pm on Thursday. The Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV took off from the Wall Street Heliport and circled near the Statue of Liberty. It then flew up to the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge at about 1000 feet. It was then seen going down closer to the New Jersey side of the Hudson.

A mass shooting at a nightclub in Queens, New York, on Wednesday night has injured 11 people, according to multiple media reports.
The incident occurred at around 11:20 pm in the vicinity of the Amazura nightclub in Jamaica, said the New York Post report citing sources.
The injured were rushed to Long Island Jewish Hospital and Cohen&rsquo;s Children Medical Center, according to the report.
None of the victims have sustained serious injuries and are expected to survive.
With a spacious interior and a capacity of 4,000, Amazura is a popular venue for live shows and DJ events.

The incident comes after a deadly attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day, where a man drove his pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street at approximately 3:15 am on Wednesday (Jan 1), killing 15 people.
