Nepal's folk singer Nira Chhantyal died along with 67 other passengers in the tragic plane crash that took place near Pokhara International Airport on Sunday.&nbsp;

The sad news of her demise was confirmed by her sister Heera Chantyal Sherchan. Chhantyal was headed to Pokhara to attend an event which was being organised to mark the festival of Magh Sankranti.&nbsp;

The singer had extended wishes of Magh Sankranti and shared pictures on Facebook earlier in the day. In another status, which was shared by her earlier, the post read, “I should have fun in Pokhara tomorrow.”

A volleyball competition in the men's and women's categories was to be organised in Pokhara by the Nepal Chantyal Youth Association on Monday and a musical performance by the folk singer was also scheduled on the occasion.&nbsp;

According to reports, Nepal Chantyal Youth Union Kaski's secretary Naveen Gharti Chantyal said that they have called off the event in the wake of the plane crash.&nbsp;

The plane, which belonged to Yeti Airlines, crashed minutes before landing and had 68 passengers along with four crew members onboard.&nbsp;

The Nepal government formed a five-member commission of inquiry to probe the Yeti Airlines plane crash in Pokhara.&nbsp;The emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers also announced a public holiday on January 16 to mourn the victims of the crash.&nbsp; 
 
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel said that the government has decided to observe one day of mourning.

The five Indians have been identified as Sanjay Jaiswal, Sonu Jaiswal, Anil Kumar Rajbhar, Abhishek Kushwaha and Vishal Sharma.&nbsp;

India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared the helpline numbers of the Indian Embassy in Nepal in a tweet and said,&nbsp;“Deeply grieved on hearing about the air crash in Pokhara, Nepal. Our thoughts are with the affected families.”

Plane crashes are common in Nepal, which has a poor flight safety record.

Nepal's aviation industry has been plagued by poor safety records. Insufficient training and maintenance are said to be the reasons.

Aircraft operators say Nepal lacks infrastructure for accurate weather forecasts, especially in remote areas with challenging mountainous terrain where deadly crashes have taken place in the past.&nbsp;

The weather can also change quickly in the mountains, creating treacherous flying conditions.

Ashok Kumar Tripathy, his wife Vaibhavi Bandekar (Tripathy), and their children Dhanush and Ritika were among the four Indians named on the airline's passenger list. The family lived in Thane, a suburb of Mumbai.

The Nepali Army discovered the crash site of the Tara Airlines plane earlier this morning. In addition to a three-member Nepali crew, the turboprop Twin Otter 9N-AET plane carried four Indian nationals, two Germans, and 13&nbsp;Nepali passengers.

The plane, which was built in Canada, was travelling from Pokhara to Jomsom, a major tourist destination in central Nepal.

Captain RB Rokaya who was flying the aircraft and Captain Chet Gurung of Manang Air, who was in the helicopter, were injured in the incident.&nbsp;

They are receiving treatment at Grande Hospital and are said to be out of danger, it said.&nbsp;

The bodies of 23 Bangladeshi nationals, from the devastating US-Bangla plane crash that killed 49 people last week in Nepal, will be brought back to Bangladesh, said an official on Monday.
