Hungary Prime Minister Victor Orban said on Saturday (Feb 17) that Hungary was "on course" towards ratifying Sweden's NATO bid this month. Hungary remains last holdout before Sweden can join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). Orban was delivering state-of-the-nation address when he spoke about the issue.

"The good news is that our current dispute with Sweden is moving towards a conclusion," Orban said in his state-of-the-nation address.

"Together with the Swedish PM, we have taken important steps in order to rebuild trust," he said. He did not elaborate more on this point.

"We are on course to ratify Sweden's accession to NATO at the beginning of parliament's spring session," he added

The Hungarian parliament is due to reconvene on February 26.

Sweden abandoned its decades-old policy of military neutrality after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and applied to become member of NATO. In order to include a new country in the alliance, all member countries need to give their assent.

He added that the stakes have increased because of Trump’s “dangerous” remarks which he made over the weekend.&nbsp;

"He was always ranting and raving and jumping up and down, and oftentimes he would spin up in terms of, 'Well, I'm smarter than they are,' and all of this," Kelly said, describing Trump’s mindset in Brussels.&nbsp;

A former senior US official reportedly&nbsp;told the author that Trump issued orders to then-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley and then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper for the US to withdraw from NATO.&nbsp;

They reportedly considered the president's direction a "lawful order” and drew up plans to execute the withdrawal.

Bolton recalled the 2018 summit to the author. "Honest to God, it was frightening because we didn’t know what he was going to do up until the last minute. And I mean, I think, he all but said he was going to get out of NATO and then pulled back on it," said Bolton.

This comes after Austin was admitted to a critical care unit at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center due to an “emergent bladder issue” and transferred his duties to his deputy.

On Sunday, the 70-year-old was taken to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for “symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue,” said the Pentagon in a statement.&nbsp;

Unlike the previous hospitalisations that were kept secret, this time around, Deputy Secretary of Defence Kathleen Hicks, joint chiefs of staff, the White House and Congress had already been notified.&nbsp;

The Pentagon chief was set to depart for the meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels taking place on Thursday (Feb 15) and a separate meeting with allies a day prior to discuss the Ukraine war and how to continue supporting Kyiv in countering Russia’s invasion.&nbsp;

However, Reuters citing a US official said that the meeting on Ukraine’s defence needs, known as the Ukraine contact group, would be held virtually.&nbsp;

<h2>Austin will be back on duty on Tuesday: Doctors</h2>

On Monday, Austin’s doctors, as per AFP said that the US defence secretary “underwent non-surgical procedures under general anaesthesia,” for bladder issues as he battles prostate cancer and a “prolonged hospital stay is not anticipated".

“We anticipate the Secretary will be able to resume his normal duties tomorrow,” said the doctors&nbsp;in a statement. They added his cancer prognosis remained excellent.

The US defence secretary vanished from the public eye in December and early January 2024, after a prostate cancer surgery and subsequent hospitalisation to deal with its complications.&nbsp;

However, Austin, at the time, did not inform anyone including Biden, the White House, the Pentagon or even Congress, about his hospitalisation which sparked a political uproar, where Republicans accused him of dereliction of his duty as the defence secretary.&nbsp;
