The National Investigation Agency or NIA on Monday (Mar 11) carried out searches in four states and a Union Territory as part of its probe into the terrorist-gangster nexus case, sources told Press Trust of India.

According to the CCTV footage, the suspect has been identified as a 28/30-year-old man, who came to the cafe during lunchtime and left the restaurant after ordering a Rava idli for himself. However, he left behind a bag that carried an IED.&nbsp;

The man is seen in the CCTV footage where his face and head are covered with a mask and a cap.

Rameshwaram cafe blast: India’s home ministry hands over case to anti-terror agency NIA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) attached two properties belonging to Mohammad Akbar Khanday, separatist leader of All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC). The properties include nine Kanal land and a 2-storeyed house in Srinagar. These have been attached on the orders of the Special NIA Court, New Delhi, under section 33(1) of UAPA.&nbsp;

This comes a day after attaching 17 properties of Kashmiri businessman, Zahoor Ahmed Shah Watali.&nbsp;

As per&nbsp;the NIA, Khanday, currently in Tihar Jail facing trial in the terror funding case, was the Spokesperson/ Media advisor of Hurriyat Conference (G). He was raising and collecting funds from within India and abroad through various illegal channels and was using the same to sponsor and promote separatist and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

“Khanday, who was closely connected with other separatist leaders of the APHC, was operating in close association with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) and he used to collect funds for unlawful and violent activities. He was also actively involved in activities aimed at the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from the Union of India, NIA investigations have revealed,“ said NIA.&nbsp;

The NIA added that the case, filed suo moto by NIA in May 2017, relates to terrorist and secessionist activities being carried out by ISI-backed proscribed terrorist organisations in Jammu and Kashmir. These banned outfits, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) etc, were using the APHC as a front for their activities, NIA investigations have revealed.&nbsp;

The press release of NIA said that they were spreading terror and perpetrating violence in the Kashmir Valley by promoting and conducting attacks on civilians and security forces.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stumbled upon "evidence" of funding of terror groups through cross-border trade during its probe into the case of Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh who was caught escorting militants out of Kashmir Valley, officials said on Sunday.

The officials said NIA investigators grilled self-styled commander of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen terror group Syed Naveed Mushtaq Ahmed alias Naveed Babu, who was caught with Singh, about the funding of the organisation and the way they had been in touch with their masters in Pakistan.

The agency has stumbled upon "evidence" of terror financing through cross-LoC trade during Naveed Babu's questioning, they said.

The NIA had registered a case against unknown people in connection with the trade across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir in 2016 and carried out raids at trade facilitation centres in Salamabad in Kashmir's Baramulla district and Chakan-da-bagh in Poonch district of Jammu.

During its probe in the past four years, the NIA had been unable to find the final beneficiary of the money received from traders, the officials said, adding that after Naveed's questioning the agency had got a vital link.

The officials said that some more people were likely to be picked up for questioning in the case as the probe in the DySP's case has brought the four-year-old case to focus.

Recently LoC trade organisation president Tanveer Ahmed Wani was arrested by the NIA and was being questioned.

The cross-LoC trade, started in 2008 as a confidence-building measure between India and Pakistan, was stopped in April last year by the Centre citing "funnelling of illegal weapons, narcotics and fake currency".

"The action has been taken after reports that the cross-LoC trade routes are being misused by Pakistan-based elements for funnelling illegal weapons, narcotics and fake currency, etc.," the government had said then.

The officials said that they did not rule out the possibility of arrested police officer Singh having knowledge about the funding pattern through trade as he had been associated with Naveed Babu for long.

Singh was arrested last month along with Naveed, Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Rafi Ahmed Rather and Irfan Shafi Mir, who claims to be an advocate. He is at present in judicial custody.

The officials said that if need be Singh and others could be summoned in connection with the LoC trade case as well.

On January 16, after Ministry of Home Affairs' order, the NIA had registered a case and began investigations in connection with the arrest.

According to sources, Davinder was on the radar of security forces from quite some time.&nbsp;

In 2019, he took Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Commander Syed Naveed alias Babu to Jammu successfully where they stayed at Sidra area and later dropped him back as well. But the circumstances were different this time as a phone call was traced by the J&amp;K police which hinted at the movement of terrorists to the Jammu region.&nbsp;

The security forces are also seeing the CCTV footage taken from the Srinagar airport and have sent his mobile phone for the forensic investigation to get more clues. All this may open up more possible links of an officer with terrorists or accomplices.&nbsp;

Suspended cop Davinder Singh, 3 others sent to 15-days NIA remand

The National Investigation Agency is investigating the reason behind J&amp;K police officer Davinder Singh's frequent visits to Bangladesh. He was arrested earlier this month after he was caught travelling with two terrorists, including a top Hizb-ul-mujahideen commander.

As per the sources in the Jammu and Kashmir police, Davinder Singh had travelled to Bangladesh on three occasions last year in a short period where his daughter is studying. The investigators are trying to find&nbsp;who others Singh met in Bangladesh&nbsp;besides his daughter when he travelled to the country.

A top police source has also told WION that since the J&amp;K police have no jurisdiction to investigate his 'Bangladesh links', the NIA will take it up with their counterparts.&nbsp;

The investigators are also suspecting that Singh may have met the men from Inter-Services Intelligence, the premier intelligence agency of Pakistan, when he travelled to Bangladesh and there could be more to investigate.

The agencies are also checking Singh's bank records to see if he was receiving money from outside the country to facilitate terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, a Kashmiri organisation, 'Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti' has claimed that they had written to Prime Minister's office, NIA, CBI, and other agencies about the land mafia heads which included the accused police officer, who were grabbing temple land and migrant properties back in 2017.

They had written a 14-page detailed letter, a copy of which is with WION, names 16 people including Davinder Singh.

The J&amp;K police officer was arrested while he was transporting two terrorists to Jammu and then Chandigarh.&nbsp;

His arrest came as a big shock to the department as in 2018, he was awarded Sher-e-Kashmir police medal for gallantry for his role in countering Pulwama suicide attack.

The NIA has already arrested Geelani&#39;s son-in-law, Altaf Ahmad Shah aka Funtoosh.&nbsp;

Seven separatist leaders -- including Geelani&#39;s son in law -- were arrested on July 23.&nbsp;

The FIR filed by the NIA accuses them of using money sent from Pakistan to fund violence in Kashmir.&nbsp;

The Hindustan Times meanwhile reported the Hurriyat as saying it would take legal action against the NIA the media for the character assassination of its leaders and their family members.&nbsp;
